chisag
... Seems every time I shoot a really low round I get some help from the Golf Gods. Chipped in on #2 from the fringe so the choice of 58* over putter worked out well in spite of my playing cards admonishment for "making the shot harder than I needed to". 3 more birdies from close range after excellent iron shots and then after a silly bogie on #15 where I thought I could use the slope to get the ball to come back down to the hole and the ball stayed on top of the slope (too much TV LOL) I hit a 148yd pw downwind just short of the green on #16 and it bounced on and rolled to an inch getting me back to 2 under. I hit a good knockdown into the 15+ wind on 17 but it still came up 30 feet short for a tricky uphill putt that broke hard left at the hole. Just trying to lag it close for an easy tap in, I made sure to get it well above the hole so I could see the break for the comeback putt and it rolled right in the center! I could hit that putt 10 more times and not make it again so that was a real gift. ... Just missed an 8 footer on #18 that did not break into the hole like I thought it would and stayed on the edge for a 69. Considering the winds were good 15mph+ I was extremely happy with that score. 4 more birdies and I could have shot may age. 00sportsman, null, StrokerAce and 4 others 7 Quote Driver: Qi10 10.5* ... sp0rtsfan86
Played Saturday: Shot a 86/87. Was happy for the most part, couldn't hit a putt on the first 6-7 holes including a few 3 jacks. Started to put it together on the back, but dumped one into the water on 18. The back 9 par 5 is now my nemisis hole, I've had 4 double bogey or worse scores in 4 rounds. StrokerAce
Played by myself yesterday....It's always interesting when I play alone. I start off pretty good and get in a good rhythm and then I either catch up to someone or there is a twosome in a cart behind me (I walk) and I feel I need to get moving. When I knew that there were people on the tee box and noone was behind me I was able to practice pitching/chipping with various wedges - trying 54 and then 58 from the same distance to see the difference - one of the benefits of playing alone! Tried my best to keep score and it was around 80-82. Minor adjustment mid-round helped a lot. Also tweaked my putting setup a tiny bit and that kept me from any 3 putts....put my "serious golfer" hat on for the last 2 holes and ended up birdie-par. Was pretty pleased all in all. cnosil, 00sportsman, cksurfdude and 2 others 5 Quote Driver- Cobra Aerojet LS Woods- Cobra LTD 3w 15*, 5W 19*, F9 24* Irons- XXIO X (6-A) Wedges- Callaway Jaws Raw (54/58) Putter- Bettinardi BB56 Ball- Maxfli Tour X Buggy- Motocaddy M7 GPS Remote Electric Caddy Bag- Motocaddy Dry-Series Proudly testing for 2024:

Jmikecpa
Got out for a quick 18 yesterday after work and in a word I played terrible, but scored well. I could not find the center of any club until the middle of the back 9. To sum up my day I pounded a drive on 16 (Par 4, 435 yards) and actually hit a fairway. Caught a 58* a touch heavy and came up short then chipped in for a birdie. Popular Post Kenny B
As I mentioned in the Happy Thread, Monday was my 71st birthday. On Mondays I usually walk my course with guys from the club, but my wife surprised me by closing her business and getting us a tee time at Wine Valley GC just outside Walla Walla, Washington; about a 45 minute drive from home. She also invited her brother to join us; he's moving to Phoenix in a couple of weeks so this might be his last golf here in the Northwest. We have played this course several times over the years. It's a challenging course, especially in the wind!! The fairways are quite large with strategic bunkers and washes that run along some holes. The greens are large, fast and undulating which makes putting quite difficult. It has been a U.S. Open local qualifying course. Monday was beautiful with temps around 90* and a very slight breeze. How did I do?? I shot 82 with five 3-putts; I don't normally 3-putt at home. My wife shot 89. I have always said that Wine Valley has really wide fairways and missing them is nearly impossible. Well, I missed on hole #3, a par 5 with the largest fairway on the course!! It's a split fairway with bunkers in the middle. I chose to go to the right fairway, and missed way right in the hay; never been in the hay before. Muscled a 5H down the fairway, and hit an iron to 2 feet for a birdie. Putting on these greens is an adventure. The greens were not a fast as I have seen them, but they were quick, and with the undulations it made green reading difficult. What I thought would be a 2-3 footer coming back was usually a 6-7 footer. Overall, it was a fun day, and I highly recommend that if you are in the area, Wine Valley is a must-play. However, I do caution you that you should find a non-windy day. Some pics: Par 4 #1 Large green with plenty of undulations; yes, windmills on those hills for a reason!! Par 4 #5 Wash runs down left side and cuts in front of green which is over 11,000 sq.ft. Par 5 #10 The green is over 50 yards deep. Par 4 #13 Longest par 4 at 505y from tips, but plays downhill. Those that have not tried to qualify for a big event, or any real tournament competition against strangers, have no idea how stressful it is compared to playing for fun. Putting yourself out there is a real treat, battling nerves, highs and lows and being in the thick of it is something everyone should experience at least once. Great job and good luck next year. ... This is what I am struggling with now. I want to play in my local amateur events and see how far I can go but I know I can't put the time in that's required to compete. I passed my first PAT (77-74) and doubled the final hole because I was so amped up; I hit a 6 iron from 190, 20 yards over the green because I knew I had it. So I think I could then play in our local mid-am. But then what? Just to fulfill my own ego? I've already played some awesome competitive golf for as good as I could be. Maybe it's time to accept being a novelty in local work scrambles and the occasional under par round. RookieBlue7
This past Saturday is the first time I've got to play in 2 months. And it showed. Couldn't hit water if I fell out of a boat. First round in my last 10 that was above an 82. Popular Post dhartmann34
Played 18 today after work. My goal was to focus on my irons. I only hit driver twice and 3 wood twice off of the tee. Other than that I was hitting 4, 5 and 6 irons....So I had a lot of 6,7,8 and 9's into greens. Turns out it worked well. Hit 6 fairways, 12 greens and had 27 putts. 3 birdies on the front and 2 birdies on the back. Two bogeys for the day. 34-35 for a 69. Very happy with it. :-) kardboard.kid, Rickp, Kenny B and 8 others 11 Quote Driver: G400 (8*) with Diamana Kai'li X-stiff Fairway: G400 (14.5*) with Diamana Kai'li X-stiff Irons: Crossover 3 iron (19*) with TT Dynamic Gold 120 S400 shaft AP3 (4/5) and AP2 (6-PW) with TT Dynamic Gold 120 S400 shafts Wedges: Scor 50*, 54*, and 58* with TT Dynamic Gold 120 S400 shafts Putter: Pro Platinum Newport 2 Midslant Handicap: 3 Location: Illinois...until i can get my wife to move to a warmer climate Right Handed: Although sometimes I wonder if left handed would suit me better

Rickp
Shot an “unsmooth†43-42=85 on a wet, dodge the shower morning. This morning was also a bit windy-drizzly so made it my last day of testing the Snell Red vs The World according to Rickp. The last two weeks ive had speed issues here as their aeration is a few weeks behind my home course and really slow compared to my home course. It is brutal on the greens out here too. Ball bounces like it's on crack and is just awful. One of our tracks seemed to clear up pretty fast though like that one of yours.
