bardle
What am I thinking. I forgot to tell you guys about the greatest / worst round ever last week. We traveled to Savannah for a family event and I ended up playing golf with a relative about my age. He waited to book a tee time so we ended up going across the bridge to...you guessed it...south Carolina. The day old Florence came in. It was south enough that we didn't get rained on but the wind was up. Had to be 30-40 mph the entire time. Somehow I managed a 101 with 87% fairways hit. It was...very interesting to say the least. Sluggo42
Good day today with a -1 day Only 31 putts 4 birds 3 bogies Birdied all 3 of the par 5's, and putted at eagle on two of them. Two of them can be reached in two with good solid shots, but today was the first time I ever reached the other one in two. Obviously, I missed both eagle putts. Had some nice chips to save par too. GeekingGolf
Went out to Royal Hawaiian Golf Course here on Oahu. Weather was iffy on that side of the island and the course was very empty so I decided I'd try my hand at speed golf (with a cart). You cannot walk the course but you can run all over the fairways. I finished 27 holes in less than three hours. Two hours and 23 minutes to be exact. I felt like a hobo with a ham sandwich........I was in heaven. Final score 79. Peaksy68
A reasonably solid round, 8 over. Played a rare morning round so I could watch Australian Football finals. Conditions were great early, calmest I've played in for a long while. Wind picked up on the back 9, not strong, only about 2 clubs worth. Drove the ball ok, 9/14 fairways, most misses in the first cut. Hit my irons better than normal, gave myself a few good birdie chances. Chipping was poor, failed to get up and down from green side chips, which is normally a strength. Had 2 x 3 putts, one brain fade and one after a really poor read on a putt I've never had before in my 15 years playing this course. Shaved the hole several times after hitting the putt the line and speed I wanted. Reading was just a bit off. Happy with the trend line, handicap dropped slightly for the second week in a row, despite me not playing great. cksurfdude and GB13 2 Quote 849 Pro Evenflow Riptide 6.0 F8 3 & 5 Woods Project X Evenflow Blue 6.0 TS2 7 Wood Project X Evenflow Blue 6.0 MP18 MMC - Project X LZ 5.5 Zipcore Wedges 50,54,58 - Project X LZ 5.5 MLA Tour Mallet 33" Z Star Pioneer bag buggy

Pouring rain and as we ate at The Waffle House this morning hoping the lightening would stay away, called the course to see if we had a green light and we did so we took off to the course. Range was closed so we stood around and bs'd till they let us go. Rained off and on and I wasn't paying attention to my score just the team score. I was having a good driver and putter day for sure. After we walked off 18 the guys were in the clubhouse and said great round, way to go. After looking at the individual score and saw I shot 79. -10 under net. Kenny B
Yesterday was incredibly awful. I shot a horrible 87. I had 5 GIR and 37 putts. Not a very good ball striking day and one of my worst putting days. The greens are still a little bumpy after being punched, but I can't blame it all on that. I just stunk it up. Well, today was different, and quite exciting. I've never played 18 holes before with a tour player, well former tour player. About a month ago my wife and I met Vern Burns on the practice green. He is in town working for the next few months. I posted a little bit about him, but here is a repeat: Vern Burns and played on the Nationwide Tour (now web.com tour) back in the early 1990's. He took up golf at age 37, and he was on the cover of the 2006 African-American Golf Digest magazine. He is from Los Angeles, and he met Earl Woods 3 weeks before Tiger won his third amateur championship. He hung out with Tiger a lot. He also got a few chipping tips from Kirk Triplett. Do a Google search on Vern Burns - professional golfer. Well, we were getting ready to play this morning and Vern shows up at the practice green. I was a little surprised that he remembered me; we shook hands and I asked if he was just practicing or playing. He said he wanted to play but didn't have a tee time. I said he could join my wife and I because the couple we were supposed to play with bailed out. He had never played my course before and hadn't even warmed up but we were up in a few minutes. Off we went. A completely casual, fun round. It took him a few holes to get warmed up but he still parred the first 3 holes. I was mentally keeping match play score, and we were both even or 1UP through the front nine; we each had 3 bogeys. I was happy with +3; Vern wasn't. Vern went 2UP after #10 and #11, but I won #12 with a par. So Vern was now 1UP. He birdied #13; now 2UP. I win #14 with a par, and Vern had a double. Vern 1UP. Vern wins #15 with a par. Vern 2UP. We halve #16 and #17. So he wins 2&1. He also won #18 if you didn't already figure that one out. I'm sure glad Vern didn't know I was keeping score like that in my head, because I'm sure he could have whipped me a lot worse!! We just had a lot of fun. I don't know what he shot for a score other than +3 on the front. I was 40/41 = 81 with only 6 GIR but 31 putts. I was happy with that. After the round over a couple of beers, Vern told us about his early life, his family, and his desire to compete again on tour somewhere. I hope he does; great guy!! Vern Burns and tours truly... cnosil, PING Apologist #9, Har in the Hat and 3 others 6 Quote “We don’t stop playing the game because we get old; we get old because we stop playing the game.”

PING Apologist #9
Gamed my new driver shaft and B60 putter this past Friday. Prior to the round on the range, the driver was a beast and on the practice green I got a pretty good feel with the putter making several shots and rolling many others to within "gimme" range... Can you guess how the round went??? Skulled my first 4 driver attempts and putted ...eh, OK I suppose. Greens were newley punched but rolling real fast with little break. I actually made a couple of putts (one for par & one for a bogie save). The driver was just embarrassing to start. We got paired in with another 2-some and for some reason I was just a wreck of nerves until the 7'th hole where it finally clicked and I began to hit it like I expected for the remainder of the day. Aside from my nerves (never have experienced that before), my biggest issue seems to remain approach shots. I had several bombed tee shots that placed me in perfect positions to use a short or mid iron to get to the green. In almost all cases (1 or 2 exceptions), I'll miss the green with just horrific duffs, gouges or skulls. Obviously more practice is needed, but I hope some of this can be attributed to playing with the wrong shafts in these irons (at least I'd like to think so). They've been very inconsistent for me at best since I've gotten them. Soon enough I'll be having the shafts replaced with "stiff" rods and I'm going to have the lie angles checked and adjusted for my swing. I've updated several of my other sticks to "stiff" and they have all woken up since, so there must be something to that. Also they're (the irons) supposed to be 1.5* up and I was fitted live to 2* up earlier this season. Combined, these 2 "issues" give me lack of confidence and I am most likely mind-screwing myself and will continue to do so until both items are addressed. GolfSpy MPR
Walked a quick nine with my son today. Some decent ball striking done in by rough short game play and an occasional left miss that wasn't playable. Putted really well, though, and shot my usual bogey golf round.Tied my son, who also shot bogey golf. Here's his tee shot on a hole he plays as a par 3. He two putted for his par here.
