Kenny B
Well, we headed to the course this morning for our 9:54am tee time. I didn't really want to go after playing those 9 holes yesterday, but my wife made me! It was 32º, high clouds with some sun peeking through, and no wind. When we finished, it had warmed up to 35º. We played with another couple that we play with often. Yesterday my wife thought she would walk because I said that you stay warmer walking, but she crapped out on me so we rode in the cart again. My feet were cold yesterday wearing my golf shoes, so today I wore my Merrell hiking boots. Good call!! Much warmer. The greens were still frozen underneath the top layer which was starting to thaw when the sun came out. I played every approach shot to just short of the green no matter where the pin was, and flighted the ball down... bounce up and roll. I learned this technique many years ago when I started playing from a bunch of old guys; they played this way all year long, not just in winter. Now I'm one of the old guys!! I bogeyed the first hole, parred holes 2-8, and doubled #9 drowning a ball in the pond; shot a +3 front nine. The most interesting shot was on the par 3 #4 hole; elevated tee, pin behind a bunker playing 138y. Land it on the green and it goes off the back at 160y. I played my shot to the right of the green to miss the bunker, landing on the side of the mounds and my ball came down to the fringe pin-high. Easy par. I bogeyed #10, parred #11, and birdied #12, an 8 footer. Then missed birdie putts on 13, 14, and 17. Bogeyed #15, and scrambled for par on #16. Ended my round with a birdie on my nemesis hole #18, a 25 foot bomb! An even par back nine. This round of 75 was the best round of 2018 for me. I did not drive the ball particularly well, but I hit 12 GIR which is 7 more than normal this year. cksurfdude, Rickp, MattF and 2 others 5 Quote “We don’t stop playing the game because we get old; we get old because we stop playing the game.”

SteddyGolf
For those of you who play in colder climates this will be redundant but the wet chilly conditions have been a game changer for me. I played today at Myrtle Beach National and although we’ve had two days of no rain the previous five days of down pour have left the courses drenched. When you couple low temperatures with soaked turf what you get is shots whose distance includes carry only and limited flight. I have never hit so many three woods into greens in my life. My scorecard at the end of the round was not indicative of the extreme struggles to get there. The good news is forced to sweep rather than hit down on the ball I hit some pretty amazing iron shots. The bad news is the sad reality to come where distance, or lack there of, off the tee will definitely change my ability to stack together a bunch of pars. In my world a bogey may quickly become the new par as total distance with the driver diminishes. Really makes me wonder how the hell Benard Langer continues to compete at the majors. I feel ya! In summer it can be 4 wood and wedge on some holes here. In our wet Autumn and winter a full blooded drive actually spins back 3 feet on landing, combine that with cold air and it becomes Driver 4 iron (or lower) to short par 4's. The par 5's are completely out of reach and a third shot can be 7 iron! Rickp
That sucks, Rick! I was going to suggest you get it done quickly during the off season, then remembered there is no off season for you.I have a Tee time Friday morning with the Exec guys and I’m going to go but only for breakfast and “solving the worlds problems”I’m going to go nuts for a while. I have to fill 4 times a week golf with something else. Already cleaned clubs & garage twice!Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpy cnosil and MaxEntropy 2 Quote Rick Left Hand, Driver; PXG 0311XF Cypher 50 gr Senior 5 wood; Ping 425, Senior Shaft 55 gr 7 wood; Ping 425, Senior Shaft 55 gr 5 hybrid; Cally Steelhead, Hazardous R2 Irons; Mizuno JPX 923HM 7-GW Recoil 460 F2 Wedges; Titleist S9 54*, Mizuno SW 56* Putter; Waaay too many to list
