This evening was not the best scoring round ever for me, but close. It was certainly the steadiest - 6 pars and 3 bogies. I was getting off the tee very well today, which made me very happy. I missed 4 fairways, but not by a lot so I still had shots (although once I had to take a shorter club to guarantee I could get over a tree, but got up and down). Short game was pretty good again - @perseveringgolfer's chipping thread and all the tips in it are working pretty well for me and I made a lot of 6-10 footers for par, ending up with 14 putts. The last two rounds I've ended up with 26 putts over the 18 holes. My friend commented that my swing looked more relaxed and less like me trying to pound it. I give credit to the orange Whip. It was also the windiest round I've played in Ohio in a while, with only the 18th truly down wind and by then it had slowed down some.

The Orange Whip is a great training aid!  Regular use of it can help with tempo and body rotation.

Super soggy and the course is playing longer every day the mowers arent working. Gusting winds as well. Only hit 2 fairways but no bad misses. The problem is any miss in these conditions make for deep lies. Didnt hit a GIR..sad....Scrambled my way to a 42.

Went out for an afternoon 9 today. I wanted to walk and enjoy the sunshine so I lightened my bag by removing half the clubs. I tee’d off with a Taylormade 14 degree Mini Driver; irons 3,5,7,9 and 50 degree wedge plus putter for a total of 7 clubs. I had four birdies and five Pars for a real Golf 32.

Golf is a strange game!!!!!!

Not well!  I think I've played about as much golf as I can on this knee (getting replaced on the 29th).  Having to walk from the cart path to the ball was just too painful.  I struggled with chipping and putting simply because I couldn't focus on the task at hand.  The full swing was okay, but limited by how much I could use my legs.  I've decided to not pursue 18 hole rounds (competitively) until after the surgery and recovery.  So, for the next couple of weeks, I'm just going to work on some practice and perhaps a casual round if the weather allows carts on the course.

Had a rollercoaster round today. 45 front 9 all over the place, 39 back 9 with 2 birdies. One of these days I’ll be able to put 2 nines together.

Played 9 last Sunday - hungover, tired, a bit of a stomach issue - and no warm-up (dumbass!). So .. naturally .. started with a double but then on the second hole....

Had an unlikely Birdie  - with all the "good stuff" on one hole! - with a good tee shot into the right half of the fairway, a solid approach that hit the front-right part of the green and a 1-putt from 24 ft (first round with the ShotScope).

And we're not going to talk about the next 6 holes!

But then on #9, which is a short Par 3 steeply uphill and with deep, nasty bunkers flanking either front side, hit a solid tee shot that carried all the way up but did not get pushed back by the right-to-left wind so landed off the right side of the green. Hit an OK chip on and then made a strong uphill putt for par - really happy with that as even a bogey on this hole is a good score for me!

I hear so many say they are swinging too hard but the truth is you can swing your arms and hands as fast as you can control. The problem is for many that trying to move their arms fast, they move their body harder/faster and the faster you move the body the slower you move the club head.

... For those of you old enough to remember the Ice Capade's they did a routine that was an excellent example of this. Two skaters would skate out to the center of the rink and lock arms facing opposite directions and turning in a very small circle, and two by two skaters had to be skating faster as each duo caught up to the end of the line and joined the others locking arms creating a straight line. Finally when the line was pretty long a little skater came out trying to catch up to the end of the line that was moving very fast. The crowd cheered her on as she skated faster and faster trying to catch up and of course she finally did to a huge ovation.

... The two girls that joined arms at the center of the line were still moving slowly while each girl down the chain moved faster and faster until the little skater at the end was moving the fastest. The 2 girls in the center represent your chest/shoulders and the little skater the club head. If the two girls in the center started moving faster the entire chain would break down. So absolutely start the downswing with the body, but s-l-o-w-l-y and allow the rest of your kenetic chain to exponentially speed up. Most people that watch my swing  say "you hit it so far swinging so slow and smooth". The truth is I am swinging my arms as fast as I can, I am just moving my body slowly to start the transition and allow my club head to pick up speed through impact.

Another round over 100 today. With a final tally of 107. From tee to green I was quite impressive again. On and around the green is what is hurting me now. Many shots wasted by either dubbing it or blading one over the green. Still, I took many positives away from today’s round. The biggest was how beautiful of a day it was. And spending 6 hours in this type of weather is worth it every time . Can’t wait to play again

Keep it in the short stuff

First night of my companies league play (got rained out last week).  Format is 6 man teams,  9 holes, score  relative to par - course handicap.   Shot 3 over with a 2 handicap for the course so my score was 1.   Been hitting the ball pretty well lately and the trend continued tonight.  Missed 3 fairways and and missed 2 greens (one of those was about 3 inches off).  Two 3 putts were really the issue.  The first one I didn't mind as it was a 90+ foot first putt.  Trying to get used to the Evnroll;  have a tendency to leave the ball short.   As for the league match, my team won 34-24.

Practiced my pitches and chips before the round.   The lesson I took has been a great help;  solid contact and good distance control.   I wish I hadn't waited so long to take the lesson.

On and off. I just can’t seem to keep it rolling without jacking up a shot that blows up the hole now and then. It’s frustrating sometimes.

like I start with 4 over on the first 3 holes, then -1 for 8 holes in a row, then back to back doubles, then par out...grrr

Didn’t Charlestown Chief Morris Wanchuk heckle the girl because she couldn’t catch up? “Get your butt in gear for the love of Mike!”

Nice!

That movie is a cult classic and all my buddies and I watched it over and over.

We also visited the War Memorial. Our high school cheerleading team had a competition there so my buddies and I took a road trip. We were more interested in seeing the arena where the movie was filmed than watching the cheerleading competition.

My wife and I used(90s) to be season ticket holders for our local team that played against Johnstown so we would road trip to see them play. The other interesting tidbit is that the coach for our team was John Brophy and it is reported/rumored that he was used as a basis for one of the characters in the movie.

Trying to get used to the Evnroll;  have a tendency to leave the ball short.

Had that initially also... Keep working with it, you'll get it dialed-in soon!

Related note - am leaving the flagstick in and putting with a firmer stroke .. starting to drop a few 1-putts here and there.

Had it going today with a 76 in the first round, and a 79 in the second. Still plagued with the occasional wayward shot which gave me a few more doubles today. But besides those, it was pretty solid.

I benched my Evnroll in favor of the Tommy A, and it’s seeming to be very consistent  in distance. Much more controllable (to me)...

Played a couple rounds at Bandon Dunes golf resort earlier this week.  The first round was at Pacific Dunes and it was about 50* with wet conditions and was still raining off an on most of the round and about 15 mph of wind.  It was certainly a tale of two nines as I ended up going 45 on the front and 34 on the back for a 79 on a par 71.

Second day, I played Bandon Dunes course with about 10 - 15 mph wind most of the day and probably 55* but sunny to partly cloudy most of the day!  Was fairly consistent most of the day except for a few weak approach shots and chips, not to mention putting not stellar.  However, was able to play a 40 on the front and 38 on the back for a 78 on a par 72.

My first time playing any golf on the west coast and I really enjoyed it.  Certainly a much different view and courses than I find in the midwest where I play most of my golf.  Off to a pretty good start for the year and trending in the right direction.
