Thursday: GREAT!  Career best round.

Sunday: Horrible..pathetic...horrid...worst score in a long time.  Got off the tee fine but my short game took the weekend off. Ex: 6 shots from 60 yards on one hole.  And when I got home I ordered a new (to me) putter.  It was BAD.

Hopefully just a fluky thing...

I played in a scramble Saturday and it was a scramble - even with 4 balls we missed way too many green and had to scramble for pars. Tee balls were not good, but I was hitting my irons decent again - only one bad pull. The winning team, which was reportedly made up of ex-college players (including one that was a member of a national championship team, not sure which division) was -20.

86 (44/42) with 27 putts at Kaneohe Klipper GC yesterday. It wasn't all good, but it was literally 10 strokes better and 10 putts less than my horrible round on Sunday. It was an encouraging way to end a fun 4 days of golf!

Exactly. Pin positions were also a little tricky for the event. There were a couple putts we tried 5-6 additional times after we holed out to see if we could get the right combo of line and speed.

Played (a regulation) 9 and broke all the "Rules", as in...
1. No penalty shots.
2. No two-chips.
3. No 3-putts.

Plus throw in a few "cudda been executed better" kinda shots, and a few "cudda made a better shot decision" type of moments.

That ever happen to any of you guys? Anyone..? 😉

Ha ha, so...
#1. Tee shot left into the rough on a dogleg right .. punch-out was thin, took a bad bounce and was still in trouble .. badly chunked the next one still leaving it short of the green .. chip up left it way short of the hole. 2-Chip Double.

#2, #3. Scratched out a bogey (uphill Par 3) and a par (short Par 4).

#4. Long Par 5 .. tested out the driver .. long, high fade exactly into the spot where the fairway bends towards the left .. take a drop... 2 shots later I'm on the far back-right of the green while the flag is front-left; first putt waaaay short .. 3-putt Double.

#5. Decent tee shot just off right edge of fairway on a Par 4 dogleg left .. good 7i onto the back-left corner of the green .. flag is back-right, and not too far away on a sidehill, uphill left-to-right breaker .. left it waaaay short .. 3-putt Bogey.

#6. Short Par 5 and tee shot goes straight but right to the outside of the dogleg left and behind a tree .. ok-ish punch-out .. deciding now whether to go for it to the elevated green or to layup short of the hill .. turns out my go-for-it shot ended up in exactly the same place as I would've tried to hit the layup.... pitch on up the hill ok but ... 3-putt Double.

#7, #8. 3-putt bogey after catching the right edge of the green (Par 3); then a good chip on and a 1-putt saved a par (short Par 4).

#9. Straightaway Par 4 from an elevated tee .. took out driver (second time) and hit it long but slightly left and it ended up just in the left rough .. took an "extra" club to swing easy aiming for the middle of a large green .. blocked it straight right and long to watch it come down and take a huge bounce on the cart path .. followed by another huge bounce on the cart path .. followed by it disappearing down the hill going back towards the clubhouse..... Take a drop at the same spot, change clubs, re-align myself .. and watch it block right again in the same direction but this time stopped inches short of the cart path, wide right of the green .. chip on was ok but couldn't sink the first putt... Triple.

So hopefully a "good learning experience" +12, as I continue on my quest to get to bogey golf.

My measure (score) today was lousy 97 but I played well - that is except except for 3 holes. On one hole which I really like I lost 2 ball in this ridiculous rough. My nemesis hole, a par 4 - I walk off in shame with a 7. And then there was this par 5 where I couldn't get out of the rough! Otherwise not a bad day.

3 days of golf this Memorial Day weekend...

Sat:  Drove the ball well, hit all but one fairway, shot 87.

Sun:  Couldn't drive the ball for $#!t, shot 81.

Mon:  Decent tee shots, but not great, shot 78.

The difference Sun and Mon was my short game.  Nice pitches, chips, and putting was great!!

Highlight of the weekend was on Mon; hole #15 a par 3 playing 160y to a front pin.  Hit an 8i pin-high right into the greenside bunker.  Not much sand in the bunker.  (The club is getting ready to add new sand to the bunkers; piles of sand are stationed on the front nine and back nine.)  Got out, but the ball flew over the pin and ran to the back of the green.  Drained the 50-footer for a sandy par.  It was so Spieth-esque!!

We don’t stop playing the game because we get old; we get old because we stop playing the game.”

Finished our red white and blue event yesterday. And the best ball round was very poor. Just wanted to say we finished dead last. My playing partner, who is a member of the club, felt so embarrassed by our scores. But I told him it isn’t that big of a deal. In a few days no one will even remember we played or who won.

But we both had a good time.So for me, that is like winning

Keep it in the short stuff

... Finally got out to play today, although it was tough finding a parking space for my Ark. 🤪   Greens at Naperbrook GC were surprisingly nice, rolling true and right about medium speed. Shot 1 under and was happy about my ball striking after so long of a lay off. No carts allowed on the course and they said they are maybe a week away from allowing any on the course. It was certainly wet, but not overly so, although there were several low lying spots that were just silly.  How silly? The first picture is about 100 yds off the #1 tee and a turtle was enjoying him/herself in the new fairway spa. The second picture is the pond off the #4 tee box and interestingly I saw several minnows swimming in the water. Interestingly because that is normally just grass. More storms expected tonite... sigh.

One small step further down the road towards bogey golf...

Played a short, ~2,460 yd, 9-hole course; Par 35 and finished +11.

...cudda/wudda/shudda been +9 but after a triple on the #7 uphill Par 3 (my worst hole; was +6 after the first 6 holes) stoopit-head here decided to try and smash the ball with the driver on the next short Par 4 ... which, of course, hooked left into the trees OB ... finished the hole in 4 strokes but a double with the penalty ... so added +5 strokes in 2 holes.............

Parred the closing Par 3, anyway, with a nice up & down from just off the left edge of the green.

Sure there were plenty of other places where I could have saved a stroke or two, but on average I was playing "ok" with a mix of pretty good and, ummm, not-so-good 😉 shots on each hole.

They punched and sanded the greens, and “scalped” the fairways. I’ve never seen as much sand on greens ever, but I have no idea what’s good or bad job, but putting was silly, like slightly better than putting in a sand trap.

Shot ok is all today, with a few great shots mixed in

I played at Lincoln Park Golf Course (West) - the fairways were a bit wet but the greens were in really great shape and were running pretty quick all things considered. BUT the pace of play was SLOW. It was a beautiful day so it was to be expected. I shot a good score (3 under 68) but it felt like I played poorly. I hit a lot of greens but not necessarily close to the hole. Here are my stats:

FIR: 9/13

GIR: 17/18

Putts: 31 (I haven't had this many putts in a really long time - just could not seem to get speed right today. I had one three putt - I hit the green but I had 60+ feet with tremendous slope and I just didn't do a good enough job.)

It was a weird day. I never felt like I had control of my golf ball. I am considering doing iBlade 7-PW in the Power Spec instead of i500 - I just feel like I'm leaving some control on the table but we'll see. On a good note, my Ping G410 Crossover is amazing - long and so easy to hit.

Put my glasses back on and shot a 75. Using my “new swing”, of feet closer together and arms tighter to body on back swing. I seem to change my swing every round...😬

My partner and I won in Men's League Match Play last night - but it was horrible play. We had a thunderstorm roll through just before the start - so play was delayed 1/2 hr. We've had so much rain here in the past month that you could probably lose a lawn tractor in the rough. Fairways were soaked and in some places standing water. Spent most of our time looking for lost balls in the rough and it was cart path only. I was whipped when I got home ( I had played 9 before league) . .

Shot a 40/46:86 today with one birdie and a 253 yd drive on the first par 5. Played the whole round with one ball, almost lost it on #18. 9/14 FIRs 4/18 GIRs and only 29 putts. Really getting to like the Impact No. 3 putter.

50/45 95 at East Lake Woodlands on Saturday. A bit frustrated with only 3/14 fairways but still good enough for a tie for 8th place in a 40 man league round.

Played in 3-day tournament this weekend. First day was great - tied my lowest score ever. 2nd day: #3 score 8, #4 score 9, #5 tee shot in the creek (I wanted to cry) . . . paused and called my son for a pep me up. Told me to quit trying so hard and have fun. And to remember that blowup holes can happen at the front of the round too so just chalk it up to that. I managed to immediately turned my game around.

I know a lot of golf is a head game and I can pep other people up. So why can't I turn my focus back around on my own?

A couple of years ago my son recommended two golf head books that were a great help. "Extraordinary Golf - The Art of Possible"  and "Extraordinary Putting - Transforming the Whole Game". Both gave me things to think about to help calm my mind when playing.

nerves?

fear of failure?

fear of success?

focusing on the negative outcomes rather than the positives?

Treat every comp as a bounce game and you wont go far wrong!

It was only 9 holes but I had my first "good" round with my Cobra F9's last night.  Shot a 39 in league play.  Previous best with the Cobras was a 44 so it was a nice improvement.

Apparently all I had to do was try to relax my shoulders on the tee box and then go for the center of the green rather than pin hunt on approach shots.  Who knew?  😅

Played at the club today and shot a 90, but what could have been! I'm just killing my irons right now...I have to take a club less, which I'm ecstatic about. Best shot was on the #12 par 3. Hit a 184 yard 4 iron to 7 feet and holed the putt for a birdie.

My experiment with a longer reach for my driver has come to an end as I was just spraying it left and right until #18. I said bugger it and went back to my old swing and drilled it straight down the guts, so I'll stick with the more upright swing from now on.

Had some ups and downs in my golf league round yesterday.  Doubled my second hole followed by 3 bogeys before turning it around and closing out with 2 nice birdies.  Short game contact is really good;  need to start working on dialing in distances and expected roll so I can get the ball closer and turn the doubles into bogeys and singles into pars.
