How'd you play?

Absolutely brutal round of 9 today, shot 56. I think I ended up losing 4 tee shots. 4. Approach game was spotty at best, way too many chunks to feel good about. Chipping was also abysmal. Two duffs that ended up 3 feet in front of me. If anything my putting was okay, except for 2 where I absolutely blasted it past the hole. Yikes. Good one to forget.

On the plus side, played a new course for me, The Meadows. I know there are a few on the forums who frequent, it's a beautiful course. Hopefully I can make a return visit and not get eaten alive by the thick stuff again.

The tall grass is a killer. When I played there earlier this month, I seemed to be very lucky and found only the closely mown rough.

Meadows is one of the few in the area with bentgrass fairways. I always struggle there with approaches and chipping, too. The lies are so tight compared to anything else around here.

Glad you liked the course!

Went out and played immediately after a lesson on my Driver. Note I don't recommend doing this as the front was a disaster. I started doing better on the back  but ended up with a 95 for 18.

Bunch of updates. First round was a 47. Had an up and down round.

Two days later my parents came into town and got a round in with my dad. If not for him looking at me the clubs would go flying on the front. A 51 including a 6 on a 115 par 3, a 8 after being 225 out after the tee shot. On the back I slowed things down and started to play much, much better. Ended up shooting a 39 which is a 12 stroke difference. Had two birdies on the back.

On Monday's men's league I had to play two 1v1 matches simultaneously, so one bad shot and I'd lose the hole twice. I went undefeated through the first 4 holes and got beat by two long birdie putts on 4. We ended up winning a ton of points that night.

Played Tuesday and was again on fire early but completely faded on the back 9. Ended the nine with quad-triple bogey. It's frustrating but a product of my schedule which has me up at 2 am and usually exhausted all day unless I somehow get to bed super early.

Also note to anyone: get a lesson if you're curious or wondering if they help. Guy I went to completely fixed my swing and has allowed me to enjoy the game again.

Shot a new PB last night of 84!

1 birdie, 7 pars,7 bogeys, 2 doubles, 1 triple.

Felt good but know I can go lower, only 1 three putt for double bogey on a par 3 & the triple bogey on a par 3.

Tidy those up and I’m looking at being in the 70’s!

Played with my eldest son yesterday at Lincoln Park East on OKC:

65

FIR: 9/14

GIR: 13/18

Putts: 25

I was a bit out of sorts on the front but got the putter hot on the back nine - the Srixon XV is a special golf ball. The feel and performance off the putter is fantastic.

Thanks 🙂 I've been playing really well lately. The biggest reason is my back - with the heat my back has been doing much better which allows me to play/practice more often. The other things are more forgiving clubs and a hot putter. My last two rounds I've had 25 putts each round - that makes all the difference. It's funny how much the mental side of playing is so impactful - just allowing myself to go low. I don't compete any more - I don't like what it brings out of me but I am enjoying playing well at the moment.

Played 9 holes last night and shot 43

FIR: 2/7

GIR: 1/9

Putts: 15

Not my best performance by any means, but I did have a couple lengthy putts that found the hole to save par on 17 & 18, my 8th & 9th holes. I seem to be making pretty good contact right now, I did hit a couple thin shots that went through the green, but nothing fat. The driver went straight for the most part, I just need to line up correctly and hit at a consistent distance (my shortest was 205 and my longest was 286). I have been pulling my irons lately, but that might be from being in the rough.

Played the front on my home course tonight for 39. Stopped due to storm rolling in.

Struck ball well and left a couple out there. I really need to work on my chipping and pitching game as I need to increase my up/down %.

Must have been the same storm that rolled through here early Thursday... right in the middle of our kid's clinic.  They all wanted to go inside but we wouldn't let them.  Only rained for 10 minutes.

+3 75 with two birdies and two penalty strokes.

Fell apart towards the end as the heat and humidity picked up.

Best irons striking day that I can remember. I only missed one GIR on the front.

Driver was one fire. Putter was great too. Just needed to eliminate those 3 hooks off the tee that led to three bogeys

Played in a small charity scramble this afternoon. Had a great time and our group won the event coming in at -11. Our group was made up of a 6, 16, 17, and 24. We all carried some of the load, including the 24 holing out our second from 107 on our 17th hole and making a couple clutch putts. I hit the ball pretty well and made a few 15-20 foot putts (one for eagle after the 6 hit a 245 yard 3w to 15 feet on a par 5).

It was stupid hot out, but otherwise a great day.

Oh yeah, I also pulled my driver as often as possible today for the practice. It worked out pretty well.

My wife and I played tonight after she got off work.  I told her I wanted to walk tonight; we usually ride.  She said "Oh, can we?"  The back nine is fairly flat; the front nine is hilly.  We walked the front nine.  I walk it every week; this was her first attempt to walk this year, and she did quite well.

Our 9-hole rounds on Thursday and Friday are our practice rounds before the 18-hole weekend rounds.  I hit the ball well; 7/7 fairways and 5/9 greens with a sandy par on the par 3 #4 hole.  Still can't putt very well.  Shot a +3 round of 40.

We don’t stop playing the game because we get old; we get old because we stop playing the game.”

Shot a 38/44:82 today and tied for 1st Place in our weekly points game. I was shooting for 23 and had 26 with a birdie. I had trouble with my driver, tended to pull them to the left, but able to rectify the situation. I also had a Closest to the Pin at 4’ 2”, making the birdie.

My big complaint is that Arccos is not working. Yesterday’s round of 41/41:82 will not finish on the iWatch and won’t sync with the iPhone. I can’t start another round until it syncs. So I had to play “Old School” on yardage using my Rangefinder.

Meh. Walked 18 in the HEAT. I was give out at 18. Striped my drive but wasn’t sure I could go get it! Hit the ball fairly solid today but didn’t score. No putts dropped. Had some nice scrambles though. But not a single bird!

3 swings cost me 6 shots. Other than those it was a solid round.

I stopped trying to use it in Apple Watch. Too many bugs for my liking.

I shot an 83 on the Fazio course in Barefoot Resort.

I took an 8 on a par 5, but otherwise played well. I'm really excited about the way I'm playing since I got a set of SGI irons 4 weeks ago. My iron game had really been poor the last few months. Apparently the steel shafted Apex had become a little too much for me. Graphite shafts and the added forgiveness have really helped me.

Weird +4 on the windy back 9 tonigt.Hit my drive a few times and got real lucky on my misses. Only hit 2 fairways, 1 GIR, and only had 10 putts. Bogied 17 and 18. I accept bogey on 17 as its a tough green thats plays 178 in to the wind.  18 I had a 47 degree to a 127 stick but pushed it off a downhill lie and left me an easy up and down that I didnt convert.

Game is finding a groove and finally almost pain free after surgeries. Ball striking has been effortless. Just need to leave driver at home,in the basement, behind lock and key.

2nd round playing “Old School” without my Arccos....ugh!

On July 4th my club is having a Red, White, Blue 2 man Scramble. So today, my partner & I played Red, White, Blue hitting our own ball. Well, since we are both Seniors, we played Red, Gold, White. In the Scramble you must play 6 holes from each Tee. We selected the appropriate Tees and played our own ball.

I scored a 43/39:82 with two birdies, one on each side. I have no stats to report except that It was a lot of fun and helped us select the appropriate Tees for the Scramble.
