Played 36 today with mixed results

Genoa Lakes: 87 (48/39), 43% FIR, 39% GIR, and 34 putts

Genoa Ranch: 96 (47/49), 43% FIR, 22% GIR and....40 putts

The difference between the two? Genoa Ranch was CRAZY windy, like golf balls blowing off greens windy. The wind was shifting on every hole making for some borderline impossible tee and approach shots. I still had fun, but man the last 18 was a grind. Edgewood tomorrow though so it’s all good!

Sometimes that place is like standing behind a jet engine and trying to hit a golf ball. The lakes gets that way at times too. Some of those valleys there create insane winds.

I've been nursing a wrist injury for a month now; no idea what I did, but it hurts.  I can actually play golf without it hurting... IF I don't mishit the ball!!  I mishit a few today.  My wife and I played with a couple visiting from the Seattle area.  They had never played our course before, but they enjoyed it... well, except for the 96º heat.
I started off slow with 4 bogeys on the front nine, but closed with one birdie and one bogey on the back nine, so a decent round of 76.  My big miss today was a block to the right when I couldn't square the driver; that never happens when my wrists are healthy.  Dang it's tough getting old, but short game saved me many times.
EDIT:  I just realized as I was entering stats into The Grint that I hit all 5 par 3's in regulation; 4 pars and one birdie. I've never done that before on my course.

Be careful KB, that wrist is very important part of the swing. From a guy that shattered his left wrist ice skating.

Played 36 yesterday, both new courses.

Went 92, 30 putts, 28% gir, 43% fir.

Then 101, 33 putts, 6% gir, 29% fir.

Putter was great all day, loved that. Short game in general was really solid, but I had some real inconsistencies with my approach game. Off the tee I was much more consistent than I have been so that's great. Lots of barely missing the fairway but still good positions.

I played terribly yesterday for a 96. No rhythm at all and I found that with half of my irons, the grips had somehow worked themselves about an inch over the end of the shaft and were starting to twist. I've been using Pure grips for years now and this is the first time that's happened. It was the 8 iron last week, which I fixed, but I should have looked at the rest of them. I re-did them all when I got home.

The highlights of the day were some of my drives, down the middle or just off the fairway with a new PB of 287 yards. There were drives of 270, 240, 262, 270, and 266 along with some dreadfully short ones. The CBX119 continues to impress and I'll have my review posted in the official thread later tonight because I'm playing again today and want to see if I can squeeze out a bit more info.

- 41/41 = 82 (+10)

- 6/15 FIR

- 9/18 GIR

- 38 Putts (3 3-putts, 14 2-putts, 1 1-putt)

- 2:45 Round Time

Tied my personal best this morning. Driver was on fire. While the total number of fairways hit was pretty low, the ones I missed missed by feet, not yards. Huge for me.

Not much else to say except that this was definitely a boring golf kind of round. Had a ton of fun. Left a few putts on the lip, a couple inches here or there and 80 would have been a breeze.

Kudos to everyone over in this thread for giving some great advice between my round last night and my round this morning. Made a world of difference.

Just a few bad swings hurt my score yesterday (that and a few 3-putts). Hit 71% of he fairways though!! Distance control on approach shots just wasn’t there and hit a few fat shots that really stung. If it ain’t one thing it’s another!

80 (42/38). If I don’t run into my chipping yips on 7 and 8, it could’ve been my low round of the year. I hit 72% of greens, 8 of the 9 on the back! I BURNED the edge on 6 putts, 4 for birdie. I changed to my new Veylix Mansion shaft and proceeded to hit my longest recorded drive of my life: 363! Flat, HARD fairways, and it had to have run for 50-60 yards! I am VERY happy with my iron performance today! I haven’t hit this many greens in awhile! Good day!

During my round today I thought about the fast/slow green preference thread.  I definitely don't like fast greens.    Hit the ball well off the tee,  approaches were pretty good,  short game was decent,  putting was a struggle.    Greens were really fast today and I couldn't pick up the subtle breaks and lock in speed control.  I am happy with where my game is going just need to put in more work.   Today it showed some glaring weaknesses:  distance control (after landing) on pitches/chips and green reading on putts.

Always fun playing a higher end course to truly assess your game

Terribly.

Got out with STUD today. Had a heck of a time. Can’t wait for round 2.

For anyone wondering he beat me... by a lot. Dude hammers the heck out of the golf ball. Numerous 300+ yard drives.

Left me in the dust with my Hybrid and Mini Driver lay ups.

I need to go ice my shoulder...

Made a good bogey on 9 to turn at -4. I drove it in jail and 5 was the best I could make. Bad bogies on 11 and 12 followed by a bird on 13 had me at -3 for the day. I drove it really well on the front 9 and completely lost my driver swing in the back. Fun day with my son and some decent golf to boot.

Played better today than yesterday, but still not pleased with getting off the tee and some really dumb forced errors.  I've got to get a tad bit more aggressive with my putter -- line is great, but often hit too soft to hold line or falling short.  Shot an 84 with 2 doubles.

He hit it well on the seven holes he played with me.  Our Asst. Pro took him out and played a few holes with him as well and said he hit it well; just needs to adjust to having clubs that actually fit him.  He rode about half the back nine with me and we spent some good time on the putting green and range today.

Shot 76 today at the Bayou - white tees, 6200 yards in the wet - everything I can handle but still I hit every club in the bag except the 48 -

This is a Fazio course and it’s Fazio tough. Some really cool stuff on it. Back to back short par 5’s on the front but if you want to take them on you better be very accurate because it’s hard to hit the ball on the green on 6 with a wedge let alone from 220 with a long iron or wood - misses are OB or in the water. 8 has a hazard left and I actually had a go option on it but instead hit 7 wood into the neck and pitched it on - missed the birdie putt though.

Back nine has the bayou holes - 2 masterful short par 4’s, one sans bunkers but with a green that replay shots in every direction and is a bugger to pitch too and then back to back par 3’s over the edges of the Bayou.

... Just be smart about your wrist Kenny. I had a torn labrum several years ago and decided to just play through the pain since there were only a few months left in the season. It turned into a frozen should on top of the torn labrum and set me back a year even with constant rehab. "Play through the pain" was doable when we played high school and college sports but once any number higher than a 1, 2 or 3 starts your age, prudence is the proper course of action. Seeing an Ortho is never a bad idea either.

I hear you. If I did something to cause the pain, and if I had constant pain I certainly would.  I woke up with it one morning.  Certain movements hurt a little; swinging a club doesn't unless I hit the ball off the toe or fat a shot.  I just need to learn to hit every shot pure!  lol

I "get to see" my new doctor on Sept 27.  Hopefully, that pain will be gone by them, but it will probably be replaced by a new one.

I've played a lot of golf since it started and it isn't getting any worse.  Just a nagging issue, nothing sharp about it.

76

8/14 fir

8/18 gir

29 putts

Struggling terribly with my distance control for 30-75 yards, cost me 3-5 shots easy today. Killed the driver all day long. Started to gain confidence in putter, still a lil bit of a struggle with speed but that will come.

Played well but a triple, a double and 3 bogies (from the middle of the fairway!!!) saw a 78 in the final Club champ qualifying. I needed a 74 so I miss out this year...meh!

Still in the handicap singles and the Snr Club Champ off scratch so all still to play for.
