Well folks I wish I could post a spectacular round but alas today was the WORST 18 holes of golf I have played since high school! Shot a miserable 46/51 and lost 8 balls off the tee. 2 were o.b. and the rest were unfindable!
The greens were lightning fast today resulting in a lot of putts.
The worst part was I was striping everything on the range before the round and started with a 2-putt Par on the 1st hole.

Took the day off of work, and I am sooooo glad I did! Walked 18 holes this morning and then did another nine this afternoon.IMG_22082019_153128_(400_x_450_pixel).jpg.dd7aa2276d37c1c239e54e9a079cd1a3.jpg

Morning 18

- 79 (+7) 😍

- 7/15 FIR

- 9/18 GIR (2 birdies, though one was a chip-in)

- 34 Putts (2 3-putts, 13 2-putts, 2 1-putts, 1 chip-in)

- 3:00 Round Time (Got caught behind a shotgun start group on 16, 17 and 18...)

I finally broke 80!

I really got off to a shaky start this morning, hit two not great six irons on the second hole, but before I knew it I was even after birding No. 5. I doubled the par 3 sixth after finding the greenside bunker, and then hit an awful pull on No. 6 leading to another double bogey. Easily the worst holes of my day.

Chipped-in on 12, which is such an awesome feeling.

I'm most proud of my focus after getting cut in front of by the shotgun start. The owner didn't realize I was out on the course, so I played the last three holes in 50 minutes after playing the first 15 in just over two hours. I have The Grint app hide my score, and all I knew is that I was pretty low on the back. Hit a poor tee shot on No. 16 after waiting a while, but recovered and saved a bogey. Two pretty good drives and approaches on 17 and 18, followed by two awesome two putts from quite a ways away.

Massive credit to Utley's chipping techniques and Rotella's mental techniques. They have been a huge help over the past couple of weeks.

 Afternoon 9

- 43 (+7)

- 2/7 FIR

- 2/9 GIR (0 birdies)

- 16 Putts (7 2-putts, 2 1-putts)

- 2:00 Round Time

I really wanted to play 18 again this afternoon, but course was busy and I was behind a couple groups.

Ho-hum round compared to the morning. I did not strike the ball well with any club at all. Hit some pretty massive slices with the driver, shanked a 4 iron off the tee on a par 3, hit a couple of chips fat.

'Tis golf, I guess! Didn't feel like my swing at all.

All in all, a great day. Had a lot of fun and it's awesome to see my work throughout this season paying off. Our season is winding down, and I probably only have three or four more weekends to have good weather for 18 holes on Sunday mornings.

Congrats!!!!!! Sounds like my first sub-80 round as well. Chipped in to save it haha.

Played Kickingbird Golf Club in Edmond today - the course was in great shape - we had a bit of rain this morning so the greens were receptive and the course was mostly empty. Played in 2 hours and 10 mins and I hit the ball so well. I was working the ball both ways and I have been struggling a bit with that lately. I didn't make a putt on the front even though I was putting beautifully. I knew if I was patient they would drop. I did make one birdie on the front due to a chip-in. I hit a really poor shot on the par 3 3rd - I was pitching over a bunker and it went in but I was so frustrated over the lousy 8 iron I hardly enjoyed it. I hit it a bit closer on the back and shot 5 under. Just such a good day.

Got invited to play Fresh Meadow CC today and actually played well with a +2 74. I generally don’t putt well their for whatever reason and rolled it really well today. Made kick in birds on 3 and 12 which are handicap holes 1 and 2 on the track. On 3 I hit a six iron from the left rough that was almost jarred. Three more days of golf to go before I have to head back to work.

I don't know what 'switched on' recently but I've stayed calm out there, thought about and focused on my shots, and just kept the ball moving in the right direction. Maybe the bunch of lessons - technical and mental - I took earlier this year, and I mean literally waaay back in January and February, are finally starting to permeate in through my thick skull......

Awesome job! It's amazing how much of the mental side of golf permeates to the the physical side. Sounds like you're on the right track, and I'm excited to see you drive your numbers lower and lower!

Started off decent enough through 6 holes, then disaster strikes.  Shanked a 9 iron into a tree, followed up with another shank into the pond with the same iron...triple bogey.  Things went downhill from there.  Just totally lost all resemblance of my swing and couldn't make solid contact on the back.  5 double bogeys!  Not sure at what point I fell into DILIGAF mode.  Posted a 90 and drove home.  There's always tomorrow.  🙂

Congratulations!  Now let me be the first to break yer bubble and stop the fizz in your champagne glass... guess what comes after "finally broke 80"?  I've been swinging away at it (sometimes better described as chopping wood) for over 30 years 😥.  And now Father Time is throwing in his unwanted help 😁.  At this point, getting another 73 looks good.

Hah! Yeah, I need to set another goal I suppose. I have some ideas for over the winter, but for one I'd love to get some more consistency shot-to-shot. I'm getting pretty good at saving pars and bogeys from becoming doubles or worse, but sometime I'd like to feel a pured iron or a smashed drive more than once or twice a round.

OK .. good news....
But first...
A really big THANKS!!! to everyone on here (and there are two in particular) who has offered me encouragement along the way.
Next... the disclaimers:
- a short, relatively easy course
- 9-hole Par 35; 2,624 yds from the Forward tees; 65.1 / 110
Finished @ +7 .. better than bogey golf!!
(...which has been my continuing quest the past few seasons)
4 Pars .. 4 GIRs
3 Bogeys
2 Doubles
No penalties (finished with the same ball I started with!)
1 x 2-chip
1 x 3-putt
Didn't count fairways hit but was in, or was just on the side of, most of them - including one astoundingly lucky "tree wedge" on the one Par 5 where I pushed my tee shot right .. right into the tops of the trees .. and was looking for it to drop into trouble but instead it got thrown out into the MIDDLE of the fairway! Lost like 1/2 the distance on the shot but I will take that! (Note to self: make a contribution to the National Arbor Foundation.) Ended up with a bogey on that hole after I chunked my 100 yd approach and still had to chip on.
One of the Doubles was not "bad" shots but the second and third shots there were just not good enough .. and then I 3-putted on top of that. Second Double was definitely attributable to three poor shots and ball still not on the green....
But today's round actually follows up a previous 'better than bogey golf' 9-hole round two days ago, where I finished a shorter, easier course @ +8, so I had to have this second one in the bag to "claim it"
Whoo-hoo!
Oh, PS:
I don't know what 'switched on' recently but I've stayed calm out there, thought about and focused on my shots, and just kept the ball moving in the right direction. Maybe the bunch of lessons - technical and mental - I took earlier this year, and I mean literally waaay back in January and February, are finally starting to permeate in through my thick skull......

Congrats surfdude! Love reading that. Keep it going man!

Awesome job! It's amazing how much of the mental side of golf permeates to the the physical side. Sounds like you're on the right track, and I'm excited to see you drive your numbers lower and lower

Had a really good round going until I jerked my drive OB on 17 for a nice little double. Ended up with a 76 with no birdies dang it! Missed numerous opportunities but just couldn’t get the putts to fall today...

46% fairways, 28% greens, 27 putts, 75% up/down, for a 77 on my home course. Lost focus on a couple shots and left about 3 birdie puts a couple inches short.

Certainly playing my bet golf since my carpal tunnel surgery last winter. Golf is fun again as Im finally found a groove. Hope it sticks!

70

7/14 fir

14/18 gir

29 putts

18 holes 214’ was total first putt distance. Works out to under 12’/hole. Just spectacular irons today, probably best I have ever hit them in my life. 6 birdies and I missed 3 inside of 10 feet. Now if the driver wouldn’t have cost me 3 strokes it would’ve been a great score. Fairway stats are a little misleading as I only missed 4 fairways by a yard or two. Hit it OB on 2nd hole. 5th hole is a reachable slight dog leg right. I decided to hit it straight into the crap. Think I’m going to stop hitting driver on this hole. It’s either birdie or bogey, guess that’s the perfect risk reward though. Hoping this trend continues.

Played a rushed 9 after work and didn't do anything particularly well. 45, 22% GIR, 29% FIR and 18 putts. On a positive note I ended with two pars, but overall it was pretty sloppy.

Last night was my company's weekly scramble.  My group just reached the green on 7 when the clubhouse blew the horn to get off the course.  This was rolling in.

nJHEWr8.jpg

I ended up driving home in some of the most impressive lightning I had ever seen and something even got hit, blew up and was engulfed in flames.

As for the game, I was hitting the ball solid almost every time, it just wasn't quite going the direction I wanted it to.  It had rained earlier in the day too so greens were soft and what would have been good putts we were all hitting short.

Very nice!!  Now that you know you can do it, you will have more rounds below bogey golf.

Semi final of Snr Scratch today (yes, for the old guys lol)

Played pretty well, couple of double bogies from nowhere, couple of birdies and many pars. 75 to win 4&3

putting and driving were decent for once, and the wedge lesson I got from the pro paid off.

Thx! Yeah that round was a big confidence booster .. hit some nice shots and kept the mistakes largely in check - the mis-hits are becoming less egregiously horrible!
