pulledabill
Walked a late 9 tonight in 55 degrees and sun.1st round in a week and not a ton a play this fall so little tougher to loosen up as it gets colder. Very slow start and actually topped a ball on #2. Water ball on # 5. Found a tempo and a groove and played 1 over last 4 holes with legit birdie attempts on 6, 8, and 9. Nice 9 wirh another twilight member who enjoys some banter and the game as much as I do. DrMJG
Palm Valley North/South 18 holes Red Tees 65.0/105. 5400 yards. The very best I have ever played any variation of the course. Wonderful weather and good pace of play, we zipped along quite well. Score: 88 with 30 putts, 6 Pars, 8 Bogies, 4 Doubles, 6 Penalties, 2 sand saves, with 11% GIR and 79% FIR. I put most of the of the gain in accuracy on the improved strikes with the Ping G410+ and some serious work with accuracy with my irons. Allowing for handicap, I hit a 73 and came in 3rd. First time with these guys; they are acquaintances from the range. While I was happy with straight 220-225 yard drives, these guys hit well over 260. Best 2 shots got me on to the green for a possible birdie on a par five, missed the first slightly right and included some invectives; sank the sphere on a hole I have been known to get an 8 on. pulledabill
I have things to gwt done, but the weather for Nov.has been so nuce I cant pass it up. Played 13 holes. Thw front I played to a +3. Not sure what was going on but I wasnt striking my irons real well the first 4 or 5 holes. Just missing it and it cost me yardage. Not sure if it alignment, grip, or ball placement. I reset myself and all was well. The back 4 holes I played to -1. I planned on 18 but caught up to a few groups so called it a night. Been pleased with my game this fall as of late. CarlH
Yesterday, I struggled. Shot an 84, but it felt more like a 94. I was flat awful with my wedge and I missed so many short putts that I would normally make. Couple that with pulled short iron shots that I kept hitting and it made for a long day. Hopefully, I'll get back on track today. Best shot of the day was 142 yard 8 iron that hit 3 inches to the right of the hole and spun a bit left to end up 1 inch below the hole....THAT putt I made!!! pulledabill
Played 9 after work. This is 6 or 7 straight and not my best round. 6 over wirh all pars and bogeys. Didnt find many greens or fairways and couldnt make short par putts. Caught a 4some in carts on #7 green. I waited until they all cleared, moved to #8 box, and then hit to the 150 yard par 3. I walked up, chipped up, and made par putt before all 4 teed off. I stood back while the 3rd and 4th hit.The last to hit asked if I wanted to play through and I said "if you keep moving Im good". He asked while the other cart was 40 yards out already. I should have played through. 40 minutes later (at least) I finished in the dark. Worst 4some Ive been behind in a life time of golf. cnosil
Once again tee shot and short game were good. Short game seems to be improving as time goes by; feel for distance is improving. Lag putting was pretty good, but struggled in the 6-8 foot range. Greens were aerated, but I should have been better. NEed to get back to work on some indoor practice. Iron play was slightly better but really needs some work; may need to build a full bag of hybrids and I seem to hit them great. Had it stuck in my mind end of October. @pulledabill Well, we're playing winter rules and, in my opinion, if you're bumping the ball, you shouldn't post .... but I'm playing games with others doing it, so I'm not going to handicap myself by playing it down. New handicap system goes into effect Jan 1 ... wondering what the OGA is going to do. Previously, they used to keep 2 lowest tournament scores for a year (assuming lower than the other 10). With new rules being worldwide, guess that's got to change. You hear anything on that with OGA? Popular Post Kenny B
A pair of 79's this weekend. On Saturday I didn't get a par until #9 and shot 41 (par 37). Birdied the par 3 #4... tap-in, and par 5 #6... 20 footer. Shot 38 on the back (par 35). On #18 I hit a greenside bunker shot, ball 5 feet below green level, to tap-in distance. On Saturday my wife and I played with two guys that were great to play with. The both played quickly. One was a local guy from our sister course across the river; his course was closed for a cross country meet. He had an ugly swing; no balance, but he could hit the ball a long way and straight. Good putter. The other guy was the county prosecutor in Spokane down for the weekend. He played from the tips (6700y), and I'm guessing he shot around 74. Our greens are tricky if you aren't familiar with them, but he made everything inside 6 feet... and I thought I was a decent putter!! Time to re-evaluate! On Sunday my 79 was 39/40. We played with another couple that we play with a lot. Very nice but both shoot around 100. I played better on the front nine; shot 39 with a birdie on #4 again (different pin position)... 8 footer. I was worse on the back nine; shot 40 with a birdie on the par 3 #17... 4 footer. I will stop in tomorrow and see if they have anything on it. Our course plays winter rules all winter. But like you if everyone is doing it I am going to do it also. Within each section, all defined terms are in italics and are listed alphabetically in Section 2 - Definitions. 7-1. Acceptability of Scores When Playing Preferred Lies Scores made when a Local Rule for preferred lies (winter rules,) is in effect must be posted for handicap purposes unless the Committee (preferably the Handicap Committee in consultation with the Committee in charge of the course) determines that course conditions are so poor that such scores are not acceptable and should not be posted. Individual players playing the course do not independently decide whether scores are acceptable because of the conditions. If an individual decides to apply some form of this Local Rule, and the Committee has not invoked such a rule, the player's score is acceptable and must be posted for handicap purposes.
