Bacon Boys Friday 🥓
Had a cousin visiting who’s looking for a Snowbird place in FL. He’s a lawyer, retired president of a insurance company in CT and a bit of a weenie.
Well he got a bit of culture shock Friday with the “Boys”. Now these guys aren’t dummies as there’s retired Docs, Secret Service, DEA, Army colonels etc. but Friday is their have fun and 9 holes of “breaking chops”.
My cousin will never be the sameemoji33.png

I'm tired of playing in the wind.  High winds in January is very unusual.  It's usually calm, gray, 30's every day, not 50º with 25 mph wind with gusts to 40... every...single...day!

I decided that the wind was playing havoc with my swing, so I moved up to the "old guy" tees.  Played my second shots from just about the same places in the fairways, which tell you a lot about my tee shots.  However, I managed to shoot +4 on the front and +3 on the back...  41/38 = 79.   I kept my drives in the fairways because I felt like I didn't have to swing as hard as from the Blues.

First 9 of the year yesterday

38

4/7 FiR

5/9 GiR

16 Putts

I've come to terms with the fact that I don't hit the ball close enough to the hole to make the amount of putts I want to see on the scorecard. I'm going to focus less on putts per round in 2020, and more on making the putts that I should make, and missing closer on the long ones. ER2 went back in the bag and I think I only missed one putt that I felt like I should've made.

Yeah, I’m a freaking genius with money on the line.

I am not one to make excuses, but it was really wet out there and it took me awhile to adjust to needing to hit the ball first out of what now constitutes our fairways. If you hit behind the ball even a tiny bit you will chunk it. Mud balls for everyone! Good times!

Even though it was 44º at tee off time, the wind was down.  Shot +3 on the front nine.  Just before the turn, the wind came up and it got colder.  Shot +8 on the back nine that included an 8 foot birdie putt on the par 3 #15 playing 167y into the 20 mph wind; only one par.  Way to turn a decent round into an 83!!  🙄

Shot like crap for 15 holes, then out of desperation, confusion, and complete lack of and idea, I just started doing a quick forward press to preset the wristcock before each swing, and I started nailing the ball... stopped at the range for a few more quick swings to see if it was still working with the 6 iron. It was, so... of course the track is closed on mondays so we have to wait u til tomorrow to see if it’s still working.....

this game....🤪

77 (par 73)

7/14 fir

9/18 gir

30 putts

When you make more bogeys (8) than pars (6) it never feels like a good round. I don't care what the score is, it is just bad.

Yay, the slight adjustment worked and I shot a nice tight 74 today, which included a double on an easy hole. I dunked a 75 yd wedge, but it popped out after destroying the inside of the hole. Can’t believe it didn’t stay in...

Played with The MGS crowd yesterday - shot 82 - managed to offset 3 birdies with 3 topped shots into the water. That’s what I get for having 6 vodka martini’s the night before.

The Eagles Club that we played at has two courses, the Lakes and the Forest. We played the Forest - All I can say is that I can’t imagine how much water must be on the Lakes course. By the end of the round we learned that if you couldn’t see it, it was a water hazard. :)

Time today for a quick 9 hole jaunt.  Many of my problems were the result of rushing myself!

Course was 32.5/105 good conditions

Shot 44, 15 putts, 5 penalty, only 25% fairways, 3 pars and 1 rather ugly double bogie.

I needed to finish prior to heading off to a full scheduled day; I tended to not take as much time just before a shot to make sure I was truly ready to swing.

So a cold descended upon mea few days ago and I’m feeling quite lousy. I was slated to join some friends for a guest day at their club. I called and explained that I was a bit below the weather, but would play if they couldn’t get a replacement. They didn’t but instead just had a solo cart for me.

shot a tight 75 with 4 birdies, but a few doubles dang it. We ended up tied for first! Yay team!

just shows that even when you don’t think you’ll shoot well, you just never know...

Silly question, of course not. It’s out already and replaced by a Lajosi blade.
Putters only have so many putts B4 they need to be taken out and “rested” for a while.

I played Wednesday, but due to rain and some slow players, we skipped 3 holes, so I didn't complete the round for a score.  Front side started off bad with an opening double (tree woes!) but by the 4th hole, I was back to even.  That's where it stopped...lol....an errant 2nd shot into the greenside trap and a wickedly placed hole on the slope and fast led to yet another double bogey.  Ended up shooting 5 over for a 41 on the front.  I think I was 3 or 4 over on the back, but 3 holes weren't played, which included one of our more difficult par 3 and 2 so-so par 4 holes.  For the most part, after the first hole, I was striking the ball okay, but not really scoring.  On the other hand, my regular playing partner was not striking the ball well at all, but shooting lights out.  Go figure...she's a fickle lady, this game!

Got out for a full round today and shook the rust off nicely—except for the putter.  45 on the front followed by par, par, grind out bogey then we hit a standstill behind a few groups. Two guys joined our two man group and as soon as that happened the wheels fell off for both my buddy and me.   Nonetheless, great start to the year!

Anytime I can break 80 in the winter is good. The fact that my last 3 rounds (one in November, one in December, one today) have been 76, 74, 78 is absolutely awesome for me.

My hard work is paying off and I'm excited to get to work with my Planemate once it arrives in the next week or two

Ever since I switched to my P790s with the recoil graphite shafts I’ve been struggling to break into the 80s. A couple 88 or 89s over the last year but most mid 90s and it’s been frustrating. Ordered some jpx 900f’s with ns pro 950 gh shafts. Shot the best I have in over a year in my 1st round out with them. Super excited to move forward with these.

... Not sure I would blame the P790s as much as the Recoils. Pretty big difference between a 95gm 950GH and a 69gm Recoil 760. But in the end if you have found something that works, that is all that matters. 👍

... Not sure I would blame the P790s as much as the Recoils. Pretty big difference between a 95gm 950GH and a 69gm Recoil 760. But in the end if you have found something that works, that is all that matters.

Similar situation, was fitted Mizuno Hot Metal with Project X 90gr, ummm not good for 73 year old guy. Was switched to Recoil Senior. No comparison Mizunos went from loser to winner.

This wind is crazy!!  Seems like it has been blowing all year!  Oh wait... it has!  I'd much rather play in sub-40º and no wind than like it was today...  46º with 20-40 mph wind.  The wind just messes with my rhythm.

I played from the senior tees today thinking that maybe knowing I'm closer, I won't try to swing hard.  Nope!  The wind seems to make me want to swing harder, even though I know I shouldn't.  Regular tees... Senior tees... makes no difference.  I shoot the same scores.

We don’t stop playing the game because we get old; we get old because we stop playing the game.”

I agree that it’s more the shafts than anything. These felt way better and didn’t need any adjusting period which is a good sign.
