The thought has been on my mind for a while. I've read a few posts on here about you all playing with carts and it's definitely something I'm thinking about this year. I really had a great time doing it, and I definitely need the exercise.

Walking is great! I really like my CaddyTek. I did not do a great job of eating well this past summer, but all of the miles I did walking the course really helped keep my weight in check.

On Thursday my wife and I played golf with her cousin on her mother's side of the family.  My wife riding in her cart...

IMG_1227.jpeg.4e406e12b01adf318cf6e5eeb3ed285b.jpeg

She and her husband own a house on the 17th hole of the Desert Horizons CC course designed by Ted Robinson in 1979.  It's located right next door to the Indian Wells courses.  The edge of their house is barely visible on the right side of this pic over looking the pond fronting the 17th green...

It was a fun course to play.  I didn't play all that well, +5 on the front nine, and +6 through 7 holes on the back nine; one double..  The last two holes were just a little too dark for me to strike the ball very well, so I picked up.  The pics of 17 and 18 are much brighter than it actually was.  Most likely I won't get to play here again, but I could get used to the course very easily.

We don’t stop playing the game because we get old; we get old because we stop playing the game.”

Since today is the last dry day for the next few days, I decided to head out to one of the local courses and play nine. The first thing I noticed when I pulled up was two cars in the parking lot. The next thing was the fact that there were no carts sitting in front of the clubhouse. I saw once guy walking, so didn't think anything about it. I walk to the door and the sign says open, so I start to go in and this guy opens the door for me. Turns out, the course was closed due to the cooler weather and the rain lately. The guy inside was a course maintenance worker and he told me I could play free, if I walked. Ok!

Let's put this in perspective, I'm not a small guy and have never walked the course before. I really enjoyed it, but think I'm going to feel it tomorrow. I made the mistake of wearing thermals and a jacket with it being in the low 40's and burnt up.

Played good, not great shooting 47 hitting 4/7 fairways and zero greens. My putter saved my round with just 17 total putts and no 3 putts.

As much as I hate to admit it, sore. I work in automotive assembly and am on my feet all day, but the walking carrying a bag of clubs is a different beast.

I wish more courses allowed walking as I prefer it over riding whenever it's an option.  We're considering relocating to Sun City Grand and, while having 4 championship 18 hole courses on the property to play is appealing, not being able to walk the courses (at least during peak season) falls in the minus column.  In addition to the health aspects of walking, I find the tempo of my game to be better.

I think you’ll be happier walking.
I walked and carried my bag for years and then when I got into my 60’s rotated between carrying and using a “buggy”. When we moved to FL 8 years ago my wife was in the golf cart and I walked and carried until one day I twisted my knee and that was the end. Now I ride and sometimes will walk between shots but that’s it. I do believe my concentration was better when I walked.

Absolutely perfect conditions for golf, 80 degrees and barely a breath of wind. Of course I was working. I had to live my golf vicariously through a recently graduated junior golfer that I've had a bit to do with over the last few years.

As as an aside, he didn't win the daily competition, someone off a big handicap had a net 54.

Only 3 of us this morning at Pebble Creek so we played “6”....every hole gets 6 points, divided up ....if all tie we each get 2 points, if a par and two bogeys it’s, 4/1/1...if a par. Bogo& Double it’s 3/2/1....at the end, I had 38, one buddy had 38 and the other had 31. At 29 cents a point, there wasn’t a dollars difference between us.

I shot 42/39:81 with one Birdie.

Weather was a cool 43* at tee off warmed up to 63* at the end.

Just for kicks, I gamed a 5 yr old Titleist DT Solo(last year they were sold). When I cleaned my cousins apt, I found two sleeves of Solos and vowed to play them. Well, they played very well 8n the colder weather.

Played an indoor round today to give the new sticks a go.  Went to a sim place with my buddy that had Augusta National as a choice to play so we gave it a go.  Smooth 77 from the back tees was not bad considering I haven't played in over a month and well it was a sim.

Played 9 today on our inside course.  Object of the round was a practice round, but more so it was the opportunity to try out the features of the SkyCaddie SX400 for review.  The course was sloppy wet, so cart path only.  I was also trying to use the GPS features that I wasn't familiar with.  This took away from my focus somewhat and I didn't really focus on my putting like I would normally.  While I hit 6 of 7 fairways, I only hit 3 GIR, mainly because my drives were short.  Only had one up and down and it wasn't the sand shot on one of the par 3 holes either.  Par 35 and I shot 41.  No comments on the GPS unit until my review.  🙂

It's actually quite yellow.  Looks more orange because of setting sun.  They live in a gated community, and they can drive carts on the streets with lights and brake lights.  They can also drive up closer to the green; I couldn't... the GPS on the rental cart told me I was in a restricted area and beeped at me until I moved.

We played two courses that we have played already since we have been here in Palm Springs.  Yesterday we played Cimarron GC and shot 82, better than the 89 a week ago.  The only bad part of the round was finishing on 17 and 18 with doubles.  Could have been a nice round!!

Today we played Indian Canyons North Course again.  A single from Denver joined us.  I shot 83 which was much better than the 87 I had last week.  The greens are pretty tame compared to most courses we played, but I can't figure out the breaks on putts.  Looks like they go uphill to me!!

Two more days to play before we head home.  I think we are playing somewhere on Tuesday with my wife's sister-in-law and her husband who arrive in town tomorrow.  I have a feeling that we saved the hardest test of golf for tomorrow.  We are playing the Pete Dye course at the Westin Mission Hills Resort.  🥴

Played 9 or they played me. Scrambled every hole just trying to survive.
Had 2 decent sand shots one for a sandie. Can’t blame the clubs, no Tempo at all. There’s always tomorrow, I hope.

This game is crazy sometimes. Played twice this weekend. Hit the ball OK on Saturday but short game was great and kept me in it.

Sunday hit the ball awesome. Hit the first 12 greens to start but also 2 putted every single one. Couldn't get anything to drop all day. 3 putted 17 for par. Just a frustrating day on the greens. Not bad putts just nothing dropping. Ball striking is improving all the time and putting is just a mess right now.

Very nice!!  Now that you've done it, you know you can do it again!  Positive thinking.

I have a feeling that we saved the hardest test of golf for tomorrow.  We are playing the Pete Dye course at the Westin Mission Hills Resort.  🥴

Well, I survive the Pete Dye test.  I had one bad hole on the par 5 #12 "Paiute" where I hit a decent drive but chunked a hybrid, and then I was in progressively worse places for the next shot... triple!  Shot 83 and never lost a ball.  Driver was pretty good, but still short because of the altitude.  I had one birdie on the par 3 #8 "Fisher Island"... stuffed it to 6 feet.  Saved bogey on the par 4 #14 "French Lick" after pulling my drive down the left just short of the water, but up against the tree you can see just left of the fountain in this pic.  Had to chip sideways toward the 150y marker; 3rd shot was barely on green pin-high (thought I was going into the water).  Mis-read the putt, as I had all day, but happy with a bogey after the drive.

After this hole you drive around the clubhouse, alongside the par 4 #18 hole "Sawgrass", so you get to see that hole before playing it... actually you get to drive by it on your way to Hole #1 too.  I thought about it a lot!!

Although it's a short hole, you need to know your line off the tee.  It wasn't that bad; I managed a par as it was getting dark.

Horrible, just horrible, starting to be a trend. Have to get it together on the range this week.
Hit one green out of 9! Felt like a windmill stuck on Fast.
