DrMJG
Report post New round today was nowhere as good a the other day, and, given my usual problems with this course, it was still somewhat better than usual. Course 73.2/128 Score 92, 39 putts (left way too many way too long when I hit the green). Only 17 GIR, Not as many FIR as well. Two balls sent swimming and one shot into the trees past a green. So penalties plus the most lost balls for the year. In reality, most shots that were "off" were just enough off to make playing the round seem greatly unplanned. 7i usually short, and 6i usually a bit long. All the penalties would not have existed with no more than 5-8 yards less oomph. Mostly operator error, who may have tried too hard in terms of trying for yards. Still, perhaps the best round at this course for me and we did not play forward tees this time. Perhaps I am complaining too much as I came in second in my foursomes. Hard to accept a very mediocre round after a great one! More next week! Popular Post Mr. 82
So Saturday is golf day for me at Kinderlou Forest in Valdosta, GA. It’s a fantastic golf course with some great guys who are members there. Every Saturday we play a points game (1 pt for bogey, 2 for par, 4 for birdie, and 8 for eagle) where everyone has a points quota to get, and the guy who goes the most over his quota wins. It’s handicapped so that the 15 handicap guy can compete against scratch golfers, and in our case, the pros. Everyone puts $20 in the pot, and not only do we play for points, but there are skins (if you are the only one to birdie or eagle a hole you win a skin) and closest to the pins on all par threes. With this group of golfers you really have to play well to have a shot at winning anything. Closest to the pins are usually won by someone sticking their shot to within 5 feet of the hole, and skins are the great unknown, because you can birdie what you think is a hard hole and not get a skin, or you can birdie an easy hole and it holds up. You just never know. Winning the dogfight usually requires you to go at least +8 and shoot lights out. Since joining Kinderlou I have never won the dogfight, but I’ve gotten 2nd place a few times, and I’ve won skins a few times. Again, you just never know. Today it was 46 degrees and overcast when we teed off at 9:30 am and it never got above 50 degrees. I know you folks with snow on the ground will tell me to just be happy I am playing golf, but this was the kind of cold that was wet and biting you to the core as the wind is always whipping at Kinderlou. My playing partners were all struggling to stay warm all round long. With all that said, I shot my lowest round ever in the dogfight, with a 76, and this was the first time I’ve win a closest to the pin on any par 3, as I stuck an 8 iron from 145 yards on the eighth hole to 4 feet, 9 inches from the hole. One of my better ball striking rounds, as I hit almost every fairway, and also hit 12 greens, which is 4 above my average. It was a good day on the golf course! Kenny B
I honestly don't know what I shot today. My wife kept score and tossed the card (on purpose) before I saw it, because it was one of those days we shouldn't have been playing. I knew the wind was going to blow; we've had more than our share of wind this year so far. We usually get wind later in the spring. I do know that I had 3 doubles, but I also had 8 up and downs for par and one birdie, so maybe 83? It was 63º overcast with wind 25-30 mph and gusts to 50. The doubles all came on holes with crosswinds. The birdie came on the par 4 #16 when I stuffed a 5H shot from 170y. On greens I just missed, I was chipping/pitching the ball very close which was good because not many putts were made today. On the par 4 #10 hole I hit an 8i for my 3rd shot from 92 yards uphill into the wind to the back left of the green where the pin was located. When I got to the green, my ball was front right 40 feet away on a green with not a lot of slope on it; lucky to 2-putt for bogey. Not a nice "Welcome Home" from 2 weeks in Palm Springs with sunny, no wind 75º days. cnosil, MattF, cksurfdude and 3 others 5 1 Quote “We don’t stop playing the game because we get old; we get old because we stop playing the game.”
CarlH
Yesterday's round was a series of Jekkyl and Hyde shots. I took a lesson from my teaching pro Thursday; and am working on some subtle changes to my takeaway and overall swing. I hit some really good shots and some real stinkers. The course is sloppy wet, so we're getting only what we carry and no roll. In any case, I didn't score well for various reasons, but I'm generally pleased with the progress I'm making with my swing change, despite some real struggles. Highlight of the round was a near ace at #9, leaving an 8 iron 1/2 inch short of the hole. On the downside, I walked away with 3 doubles and too many bogies, mainly due to really poor shots around the green and mediocre putting. Shot an 85. sirchunksalot
After a couple rounds at 80, I finally broke it today. First time since last Fall. First time at Pebble Creek in two years. Today I shot 35/44:79! Even Par on front with one bogie and one birdie. Then, screwed the pooch on the back with a 44... 2 Doubles, 2 Pars & 5 Bogies. Weather was in upper 40’s and 50’s. I gamed my entire bag of Cobra F8’s with EVNROLL putter. I played a Maxfli Softfli ball due to the cooler weather conditions . P.S. the dots on the scorecard represent the round robin we were playing. #CobraCONNECT using the new F8’s from Cobra Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpy Awesome round@fozcycle ! CarlH
Continuing to struggle with my ball striking of late. On the plus side, I chipped and putted decent enough to salvage the round from being a worse disaster than it could have been. Course is still sloppy wet and it was pretty cold this morning. Even got a few snow flurries and a touch of grapple while on the #12 putting green, but it passed as quickly as it arrived. fozcycle, tony@CIC, Kenny B and 3 others 6 Quote Driver: Rogue ST Max (10.5* set at -1 and neutral) -- Mitsubishi Tensai Blue 55g R shaft Fairway: Rogue ST Max 3 wood (16.5*) and Heaven Wood (20*)-- Tensai Blue 55g R shaft Hybrids: Rogue ST Max 5H (23*)--Tensai Blue 55g R shaft Irons: Apex CF19 6-9, PW, AW -- KBS Tour Graphite TGI 70 shafts R +1/2 inch 3* upright Wedges: Edison 53* and 57* KBS PGI 80 Graphite +1/2 inch 2* upright Putter: L.A.B. cnosil
Short game was a mess today, played to leave myself 50 and out just to avoid having to hit anything inside that range. Driver was good, putter was good, approach game was good, did I mention my short game was a mess. Was wet today and my wedges were just going right under the ball when I tried to hit finesse shots. Should have know it was going to be bad, didn't hit them well during warmup. Think I just need to loosen my grip and let gravity help......or practice more fozcycle, Kenny B, cksurfdude and 4 others 7 Quote Driver: G400 Max 9* w/ KBS Tour Driven Fairway: TS3 15* w/Project X Hzardous Smoke Hybrids: 915H 21* w/KBS Tour Graphite Hybrid Prototype 915H 24* w/KBS Tour Graphite Hybrid Prototype Irons: TR20V 6-11 w/Vizard TR20-85 Graphite Wedge: 54/12D, 60/8M w/:Accra iWedge 90 Graphite Putter: TM-180 Testing: Backups: Milled Collection RSX 2, mFGP2, Futura 5W Member: MGS Hitsquad since 2017
