Trying to count them up - and maybe I'm a bit off, but I come up with 11 putts!?  That will certainly help the round.  Nice work.

I never counted my putts, but going back over it, I technically had 8 putts if you only count putts on the green; 12 if you count putts from fringe.

... You da man PMookie! This reminds me of the Bob Murphy story where his swing got so out of whack and he was so frustrated he took off Sunday - Wednesday with no practice and just started playing in a tournament on Thursday and to his surprise, he won that week. He said it worked so well he did it again the next tournament and won again! He thought "That's it! No practice, trust your swing and just play". The next week on a Friday coming up the 18th fairway and missing the cut by 10 strokes he said he forgot how to even start his backswing, let alone hit a shot. It was then he realized you never actually own a golf swing, you just borrow it for short periods of time."  🤪  That really stuck with me and gets me thru my bad rounds.

Never thought about it, but I wonder if Matsuyama copied Murphy's swing.

Played with these guys - Foz and Maxentrophy from MGS plus Al a retired Pastor friend of mine. With a younger guy in the house I played back 1/2 set of tees - straight white instead of the senior chairman tees. That means 4 par 4’s over 400. 😞

It also means playing this hole from here

IMG_1663.JPG

This old guy held up okay going 38,39 77. Way more importantly had a great day and made a new friend.

I remember that hole!!!  I don't remember what score I got on it, but I'm sure it wasn't good.

My current training schedule is light, so I'll be getting in a lot of golf my remaining weeks in Hawaii. As such, I got out for 9 today!

41 - One double, 4 bogies, 3 pars and 1 birdie.

FIR 0/7 - Some of the misses weren't too bad, but I was in jail for a few of the approach shots. Gotta keep working on the tee game!

GIR 3/9 (33%) - A direct result of some of my tee shots!

15 putts - Three 1 putts and NO 3 jacks!

Overall it was a positive outing and I'm looking forward to playing more the coming weeks!

Interesting - Murphy has that pause at the top - you realize that Matsuyama hits it 50 yards further than Murph.

Murph -  steel shafted persimmon woods and wound ball.  Didn't practice much.

Matsuyama - optimized graphite shafted metal woods and Srixon Z-Star; bigger, faster, stronger and practices a lot.

I should hope so!!

Absolutely - that was implied in what I wrote.

I recall a number of years ago on another forum where a young guy was touting how much better Tiger was than Jack because Tiger was fit and Jack wasn't.  He had no clue that players in Jack's era generally worked second jobs to supplement their income or that there was controversy over the benefits of working out for golf or that Jack actually worked in his Dad's pharmacy during the offseason after his first year on tour (yes there was a real offseason and many guys lived up North.)  So often I hear speculation about how former greats might fare in the modern era.  No one asks the question about how modern players might fare if they had to step back in time, work as a car salesman from November until January, not lift, use balata, persimmon and lead tape.  It goes both ways.

Played 9 two days in a row (taking advantage of some Spring-like days, and now am taking a few days off to rest these aging muscles and joints!) and had a mix of good, or at least playable, shots along with those "oh yeah that still needs some more work" ones... Which overall is improvement, I think, over those rounds where it's been pretty much all a struggle; I feel like I'm starting to learn where to try to hit the ball coupled with starting to (emphasized) being able to execute on that.

First day was a Par 3 where each hole is a scaled-down recreation of a famous Par 3; for example, the third hole here is the Augusta #12 (here it's a pond in front) and the ninth is the TPC Sawgrass #17 island hole (with a bailout area along the right side). Yeah I know it's all in my head but these two holes, well .. get in my head... I usually duff it and splash. So this time I played, uhhh, "smart" and just pitched off the tee each hole to about 50 yards out. Can you guess what happened next?? ....yep: we still got some work to do on that..........!

Second day was opening day at a short 9-hole course nearby. Again, some good shots and then some "oops" ones. For example, starting off hit a decent 6i but then thinned the (PW) approach; hit a good-enough chip on (tho slightly left of my spot) and left the uphill/sidehill putt with literally half the ball hanging over the edge of the cup (Winter Rules Par! 😝). Then on the sole Par 5 I topped the tee shot (Winter Rules Mulligan!) and then nailed the do-over; hit a good second to the 100 yd layup and a good enough approach to hit the uphill green; then a really good lag putt to within a few inches.

Had some other good golf shots but that flew a little bit right or left of the intended line .. still always working on alignment, of course, along with face and path issues .. but I think my biggest problem, that I'm still struggling with after years of working at this game, is hanging back at impact. Anyway, continuing with my lessons and practice and am feeling positive about making real progress as we move into the "regular" season!

9 yuck holes of $$$$!
Beautiful FL morning 60+ degrees, sunny & light wind. Course decent shape, greens really nice. Not sure what I ended up shooting but the only Pars were 1st & 9th everything else bogie or “other”. Wasted MANY decent drives or approach shots to botch it badly.
I didn’t set up this Tee Time as had a lot of home duties going on. The 2 slooowest guys were in my 4some and unfortunately riding together. Every slow habit that we know of in the modern golf world these guys are guilty of.
We left them on one hole to see what would happen......nothing they didn’t know we were gone
Have to keep them separate them their not toooo bad.

I think during the trip to Tennessee, you decided to bring some rain with you. I hope it dries up soon and you can get out and enjoy golf without puddles.

Wednesday afternoon 9 at Navy Marine from the back tees this time.

42 - 1 double, 5 bogies, 2 pars and 1 birdie.

FIR 2/7 (29%) - Driver was a bit better today, but there's more work to be done!

GIR 3/9 (33%) - My approach game was an issue today for sure.

16 putts - Two 1 putts and no 3 jacks again 😀

I finished up and then did some short game and putting work for an hour afterwards. Going to keep putting in that work!

The weather turns tomorrow.  Rain turning to snow Friday night and Saturday, maybe into Sunday.  Temps dropping to 23º at night.  I don't think the course will be open all weekend.

So... a beautiful 55º sunny day today with no wind, and my wife and I played with a father and son that weren't very good.  However, they enjoyed themselves immensely, and we had a good time.

I didn't start off very well, but finished strong even with poor off the tee shots.  Shot 42/37 for a 79... no birdies.  I had a good birdie chance on #4 which is a hole I need for the 2020 Birdie Challenge but the ball didn't break like I read it.  I'll get it next time.

Got in the first round. Just focused on contact, didn't keep score. I felt like I hit a lot of greens, but only made 1 or 2 putts over 4 foot. Hit some poefies of course, but I felt like only true mishit was a half-topped 7i on a par 3 that went about 40 yards.
