How'd you play?

Scheduled for 10:06 tee time 30 miles north of my house today, but last night we got 4 inches of rain in 45 minutes! So I knew all the courses around here would be CPO with massive no shows and cancellation. With storms predicted starting at noon today so I headed to my home course hoping to get on early to get a round in. Our pro put me up with a pair of guys I didn't know but they were nice enough to let me play with them and we finished just before the storms began ( as predicted ).

Started off horribly 7 over after 4 holes! But I righted the ship and finished the round fairly strong.

image.png.4cee38ab7832e28e13c30c657e2a16c9.png As you can see this course has enough water without rain.

My wife and I went out early today 7:14am because the heat has arrived in SE Washington... mid-high 90's for a few days.  It was just the two of us, but play was slow in front of us and a single came up behind us.  Great guy!!  With 3 playing we didn't have to wait as long for every shot.

I shot 80 with one birdie and a double at the last. The birdie was on #14 and was a putt from the fringe; downhill, left-to-right breaker.   Other than #18 I struck the ball fairly well, but I 3-putted #7 and #8.  I rarely 3-putt and certainly not back-to-back holes!!

My wife hit the pin on #5 but the ball bounced far enough that she couldn't make the putt.  She also did something that she has never done before.  On the par 4 #16 hole she was in the greenside bunker in two shots and hit a great shot that landed, hopped twice and went in the hole for a sandy birdie.  It was fun to watch, and it was amazing that the ball stayed in the hole with the pool noodle in it.  She shot 90.

Chip/sandies that you can see are THE BEST. Congrats good rounds

Made the 2 hour drive up to Tokatee. Mid 80s and crazy goegeous day. Deiving range before round went well and s*** 40 front side with a couple 3 putts and a birdie. Played well.

Decided to re-tie my shoes at the turn and the wheels fell off. Shot a 50 backside. Not sure when the last time was that I carded a 50 or a 90.  Heat got to me a bit but still.

Buddy that went with me was  a Tokatee virgin so a good day and he played well.

Played a Jack Nicklaus design today called Bear's Best Atlanta. The course features 18 of Jack's favorite holes from his designs from around the world. Most are near perfect replicas. There are two signature holes. The first is the 4th which is a replica of Hole #2 at Old Works in Anaconda, MT. It stands out because of the black sand used in the bunkers.

20200528_171023.thumb.jpg.555a31673dbe0b5f9a21f9f0701e5f1d.jpg

The other hole is the 6th, a replica of Hole #12 at Muirfield Village Golf Club in Dublin, OH. This famous hole is at the course where Jack hosts The Memorial every year. It's a par 3 playing 163 yards over water and I hit my 8 iron to 8 feet. Birdie lipped out but I still played decent for the day. It was a great experience!

Yeah the tee marker has the hole and course it's modeled after and the cart GPS comes up with it as well. Definitely an awesome time.

My twilight round last night was relaxing and lead to a pretty good round for me at the start of the season:

Hopped out of bed at 5:30am trying to get the body warmed up before an early tee time this morning. Apparently I need to get up earlier.

Hit the driver _terrible_ but managed to keep it out of trouble. The rest of the bag is fizzing straight out of dead nuts center right now and my short game is very tidy.

Managed to roll in a couple birdies thru the first 8 holes and closed with a sloppy double on the tough 9th. Gave myself a talking to afterward about committing to these little swing changes and headed for the range to grind them out. I’m still not keeping score, so let’s just say I felt like a cat burglar out there today.

Recently regripped to the MCC Plus 4 grips and having a lot more control off the tee. Not sure if it’s mental or actual science but will confirm when I play next week

I thought about hitting that place up next weekend. Haven't been before but pass it all the time when going to Alpharetta. Also pass The Manor a lot but I don't have a way in there yet.

By my standards I played abysmally today. Shot an 89 when I’ve been trending in the high 70s. My ball striking and decision making has been improving in my stride for scratch from a 5.  But I feel like I had a step back today. Front nine I put wedges in the water, and I haven’t putted well at all in my last 10 rounds or so. Too many 3 putts. My ball striking did get better as we went along, but I just don’t know why it doesn’t stick. It’s like I want to spin out and can’t square to the target resulting in a fat push fade unless I concentrate very hard on the club exiting perpendicular to my body.  Sorry for a bit of a rant. Just very frustrated today.

I hear ya mate... some days ya just stink! Like I did today as well..
