How'd you play?

Two bad rounds this weekend... 94 and 88.  I had a chance to break 100 which I have never done at my course.  😬

I'm still waiting for the good break I'm supposed to get; I had 10-12 bad breaks, and I almost got hit by a tee shot from #5 while I was by the green on #6.  Landed maybe 10 feet away while I was in my downswing on a pitch shot.  Chunked it.  Had a shot to the green that landed over the bunker in the rough, bounced straight up, then rolled back off the steep lip into the bunker.  When I got to the green I didn't see my ball into bunker, until I looked further out.  How does a ball roll off the edge of a bunker and end up 15 yards away from the green?  I'll tell you... it had to have hit this large rock and bounced straight way from the green. A 10 foot bunker shot is a lot easier than a 40 foot carry bunker shot.  My second bunker shot was to 4 feet.  I could go on and on about the bad breaks; where is the good break?

Edit:  Forgot to mention the kid that was warming up on the range next to me, hitting towering iron shots.  He was carrying his bag in the foursome behind us.  When I was on the par 5 #6 approaching the green, I looked back and there was a ball on the narrowest part of the fairway between bunkers.  I've never been close to that spot off the tee, and he was playing from the tips.  As I walked off the green, got in the cart, I saw him hit his second shot.  The ball landed on the front of the green and rolled past the middle pin, just missing.  I almost got to see an Albatross; never seen one before.

We don’t stop playing the game because we get old; we get old because we stop playing the game.”

- 42/43 = 85 (+13)
- 5/15 FIR
- 6/18 GIR (1 birdie)
- 35 Putts 🤮 (2 3-putts, 13 2-putts, 3 1-putts)
- 2:30 Round Time

Driver - Good, Irons - Average, Short Game - Average, Putting - Poor

Considering the front nine could only be classified as a gigantic dumpster fire, I'm ecstatic with the score. At some point around No. 7 tee, I cussed myself out a little and finally just willed myself to put better swings on the ball. Had nice drives on No. 7 (hardest hole on the course, which I parred), No. 9 (birdie, missed an eagle from the fairway by inches), No. 10, and then just absolutely nailed three straight on 14-16, including hitting the green on No. 15 which is a 274-yard par 4 that was playing uphill into the wind today.

Still cannot buy a putt and the combination of poor putting and having tree trouble on nine (!) holes really made it hard to have any chance of scoring well today. I'm getting very good at hitting low stingers from out under the trees, but in almost every case that means I need to play a perfect hole from then on to have a chance at par, and my short game is just not currently up to that challenge.

Since getting to the driving range on May 22 following my lesson earlier in May, I've shot 18-holes scores of 85, 83, 84, 86, 84 and 85. Consistent, but I'll need to see some improvement from my putting if I hope to do anything other than shoot mid-80s.

Have you tried putting lessons?  Most people don't give putting much love when it comes to lessons.  I guess they think it's such a simple motion, and they can figure out how to get better by themselves.  It does take practice, but knowing what's wrong, what to practice and how to practice pays dividends.

I'm thinking during my next lesson in a few weeks I might have my coach just take a quick look. Can't hurt! The stroke is better than last year, at least.

Another great day of ball striking and above average around the greens and flat out garbage on the greens. Benching the long putter for a week and giving the rebuilt stroke with the short putter a go. Said I wasn’t going to do it but can’t keep shooting mid 70’s when I hit 14 greens and miss one fairway.

Played 9 holes today, shot 36 (E).

7/9 GIR, had two birdies and two bogies. 144 yard par 3, hit 9 iron pin high to five feet. Birdie putt lipped out, par putt lipped out. Ugh.

New swing is getting dialed in, handicap should start dropping again soon!

First swing the bev cart was rolling up behind me, and never let up.  I topped the s#!+ out of it as she motored by.

Took a re tee, it's sunday and I'm not on tour 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️.  Par.  Birdie.  Par.

I've not been -1 (with an asterisk) thru 3 holes in a long time.  After that I kinda blew it.  44 front 9.  On the back I ended up waiting so long for the groups in front of me.  A kid caught up and we played together.  I switched tees to back where he was teeing from and kept up, but stopped keeping score even though I did ok.   Combined my front 9 with a prev 41 for 85 which is pretty darn low for me 🙂

Well.... I only shot +11 today on the same 9...lol. Maybe I'll be able to squeak out a bogey round the next time...lol.

I know what the problem is. I just can't make myself fix it. I'm raising up at the moment of impact and just cutting the ball in half with every club. I need to stay down in the shot. Why is this so hard when you know what you're doing wrong?

Turn right to go left, swing down, ball go up 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤭🤭🤣🤣.

Ever try moving your stance so the ball is an inch or two back from normal toward back foot?  Then just take the same swing and you might find bottom 🙂

A poor term is "muscle memory", but it's really the brain communicating with the muscles.  It's engrained.  You can't get rid of a bad habit; you have to replace the old habit with a new habit, and that takes many reps doing it right.  Don't do enough and you go right back to what the brain knows how to do.

30 Putts (1 3-putt par from like 50' 🙄, 1 0-putt chipped in from like 10y)

Hit the ball pretty decently on the front. Round kinda dragged because there were some slow folks a few groups ahead who were apparently holding things up. They left at the turn thankfully. Lipped a 2' tap in for birdie after hitting a nice 8i from 145 playing into a slight breeze -- thought I might've holed it. The bunker blocks the view of the cup. Put two in the drink, one on each 9, and consequently made 2 doubles. I should've searched for a hybrid a long time ago. It's so much more consistent for me than 4i or crossover was. Feels good to get back into the 70s though, I feel like I could live there on a much more consistent basis.

That's a pretty nice score considering the GIR and FIR 🤣

Chip in birdie helped for sure, so it's kinda like 8/17 GiRs, which is sadly my average. Missed FiRs weren't bad misses, or they were so bad that I was in another fairway rather than being in trees. Only had to play out sideways and take my medicine once.

played the same course as Friday morning though it was much tougher conditions (fast and firm, plus wind) I shot another 85.  After driving like a baboon on cocaine, I righted the ship and came home with 5 straight pars.  Very proud to recover that way after a horrid front 9.

Played a quick 9 on Friday afternoon.

4/6 fairways

only 3/9 greens

But hit some shots that have me feeling like I finally know what I'm doing again.
