How'd you play?

First 9 I was all over the place but I started to get things under control after 6 holes. The turning point was when I hit my 5i into a par 3 on the back 9 and it landed within 15 feet of the pin.

On another hole I tried a bump and run without success even though this looked like it was built for the shot. It would work but I never play bump and runs and never practice them.

Manage to play twice over last week. Played early Sunday morning and shot 45-50. Started double triple double followed by 4 holes of even par followed by a double bogey. Back 9 was rough with a few really bad holes including dunking the ball on the par 5.

Played the back 9 in mens league and shot 3 strokes better although I could have easily been 4-5. Blew up on the par 5 again this time near the green. I had 5 shots within 30 yards  of the green including blading a pitch, hitting the resulting chip way short and getting stuck on the fringe, hitting the lag 6 foot long and then burning an edge.

On the last hole  I needed two to hit my average for an extra point, so went for a high risk chip and blew it past the hole. Ended up with a 5 although any other time I would have played it a lot more safe and tapped in for a 4 or had a few foot for the 3.

I didn't have much of a swing that day, which is encouraging that I could play better while still not feeling like my game is up to par.

I use a putting stroke for bump and runs and has helped me a lot with that type of shot.

Absolutely horrible day on the course yesterday. My mind wasn't on the game as I'm wondering where we're going to live (see link below). Couldn't drive straight, couldn't putt and lost 4 balls 😱

Jease I love early morning rounds (I am sounding redundant). Another 6:30 before work tee time for 9 holes.

Got into a little trouble having to punch out but overall good round @ 41 (2 doubles, 3 bogeys, 3 pars & 1 chirp). Finally knocked out my first bird of the year on hole 9 par 3. Nice 9 iron landed soft 10' putt. Felt good to get her out of the way!

Driving stats are not very revealing of how it was played because overall off the tee was great today, little left little right but they were getting out there which was nice and flying straightish.

I hit it too low on the hill it stopped on the hill and I had to hit another shot.

I don't consider that a bump and run.  A "bump" should land on the green.  To me that's a pitch shot with a landing spot off the green... difficult if not practiced.  I was pretty good at it at home, but on one of our trips to AZ I tried it a couple of times before I quit trying.  Bermuda doesn't react the same as our grass up north.  I think I was using g too much loft.

Today at Maggie Valley....Temp at 9:00 was 53*......had two birdies, one on front (168 yard Par 3) and on back(299 yard uphill Par 5) which yielded a 43/43:86. So, I played all three rounds with one ball, a Pro V1. One more round this week, but at a golf course that’s been open for 101 years(1919-2020) Lake Junaluska G C.

Got out for 9 holes today.  Beautiful day and played firm and fast.

Purgatory Golf Club – Blue Tees – 3403 Yards

Score – 38

Fairways – 3

Greens – 3

Putts - 13

Hole 1 – 332 yards Par 4 -  Sharp dogleg left – 4 iron off tee hit ok but not as solid as I’d hoped but in fairway – 135 yards to back left pin, took a little off PW and good distance control to pin high right 20 feet – 2 putt Par

Hole 2 – 409 yards Par 4 – another sharp dogleg left but tee shot is all over water – hit a nice cut (left handed) but did not take enough of water on – GW from 115 with ball below feet and chunky lie – came up a bit short to bunker and hit ok bunker shot to about 10 feet – 2 putt Bogey

Hole 3 – 168 yards Par 3 – Hit a great 8 iron as good as I can hit it – 5 feet left – Made Birdie

Hole 4 – 421 yards Par 4 -  Straight on par 4 with trees right and pull/draw my ball into them – lucky to find my ball at all and left with 120 GW, Tried to draw around the tree but ended on right side of green pin high – Wonderful chip from about 50 feet that hit fringe and trickled down to hole to tap in range – 1 putt Par

Hole 5 – 508 yards Par 5 – Straight on with trees left and water up near green on right – Overcorrected drive from previous hole so this was a push cut into trees, but other hole is nearby however small creek running under trees and ended in that – drop so hitting 3rd shot, great 6 iron to be smart with lay up and not take on water – 108 left and hit fantastic SW to 2 feet – 1 putt Par

Hole 6 – 395 yard Par 4 – Dogleg right – Great drive but pushed a bit so missed fairway by 1 yard on left – 90 yards left full LW but hit a tad chunky and ended in bunker – Hit too clean on bunker shot and landed just off green on back rough – Good chip to close range – 1 putt Bogey

Hole 7 – 187 yard Par 3 over water on left and short – A little into wind and hit good 6 iron right at pin but ended about 30 feet short in fringe – Good line but speed was too much leaving 6 foot putt – Missed and tap in bogey

Hole 8 – 475 yard Par 4 – small dogleg right and blind tee ball – Great drive to left side of fairway – 153 left and hit PW, hit a bit too strong and landed on back fairway area behind green – Great spinny SW that had a lot of check and finished 2 feet away – 1 putt Par

Hole 9 – 560 yard Par 5 – Best drive of the day – 240 left and hit hybrid pin high right of green – downhill lie with only about 10 feet to work with on 30 yard pitch, Played a bit too safe on flop and left with 30 feet – 2 putt Par

Continuing to trend in the right direction. Today, got out on a morning round. First few holes we had a slow group ahead of us and it took an hour to play 3 holes, but was still able to play well enough to shoot a 76. Turned it on the last 6 holes to shoot -2 over the last 6.

Also, played with my buddy who broke 80 for the first time this round and was awesome to grab a beer after to celebrate his record round.

Shot an 83 last night, which is about normal for me right now, but it was such an ugly round. Was playing a course for the first time and just found the holes to be awkward. Alot of shorter par 4s that were tight but also have fairway bunkers in layup zones. Of course when I hit driver I'm missing and out in the rough, and when im hitting 4 iron im in the bunkers. Finally unleashed a big drive on a par 5 but in ran down the left center into some water that I couldn't see from the tee. Eh. Luckily, I was abnormally good from 120 and in, leaving multiple full shots to within 8 feet, and leaving a few touch shots around the green to within tap in range. Really saved what felt like it should be a score around 90. The one takeaway is that I got alot of practice with my 17* hybrid off the tee hitting low piercing shots that ran for days. Didnt really help on this course, but hopefully can keep that one in the arsenal.

+2 38 after work today

6/7 FiR

7/9 GiR

16 putts with a 3-jack

Hit driver really well today and that allowed me to hit a lot of greens. Ironically the only fairway I missed today was an over drawn 3w into the drink for a double bogey. Started the day with a really nice birdie putt from like 15' and stayed at -1 until the 7th hole where I 3 jacked after running my putt 15' beyond the cup like a jerk. Didn't realize it was so downhill from where I was. Smashed one middle of the fairway on the 9th with 187y left on the 500y par 5 (it was down wind) and drew a horrible lie with the ball below my feet and also on a downslope towards my target. Needless to say I hit it to the bunker on the right which was as hard as a cart path, but managed to get up and down for par after skulling it out of the trap. Pretty annoying way to end an otherwise decent round for me.

How do you like golfshot plus? Worth the money? I'm using the free version right now and not sure what you get for the subscription. I like the app, coming from The Grint after it messed up the layout of one of the courses I play most

I use it for all of my rounds. It keeps as many stats as you’d like, but I just use it for the basics: GPS, scoring, FIR, GIR, avg putts per hole, and then shot tracking to get distances. I guess it depends on what you want...

Snuck in 9 before work. Been working on cleaning up a few things, and putted extremely well today. Continued my hot streak of getting up and down, converting almost 90% from inside 30 yards. Toned back the SuperSpeed and swing for fairways, averaged 280 off the tee and missed two of 7. Ended up with a (-1) 35.
