The in-laws took me up to a different course today, The Falls at Barber Creek in Kent City, Michigan. I played there last summer and it's a gorgeous little course.

IMG_02072020_151405_(800_x_600_pixel).jpg.ca95cada6dfccb8f5b3a319d81d55664.jpg

I say little because the course tops out at 6,004 yards from the back tees. But for what it lacks in length it makes up for tight tee shots and small, very undulating greens with difficult pin placements. So many sucker pins on the course today.

It was very hot today, and the ball was flying well. I played pretty darn well overall. I struggled with the driver early on hitting one ball OB and one ball into the water, but during the middle, middle-end of the round I hit some really nice iron and wedge shots. Because the course is short, most of the back nine I didn't hit anything longer than 4 hybrid off the tee.

Birdied number 11 and parred three of the four par 3s, which really helped my score. Unfortunately, I couldn't hold it together on the last hole. I knew I was going for a 38 on the back with a par, and I tried to chew too much of the hole off the tee. I hooked my driving iron into the massive left fairway bunker, caught my sand shot heavy to about 30 yards in front of the green and then unfortunately caught my pitch heavy as well, landing just short of the fringe. Chipped to about four feet but sadly two-putted for a 40.

I still need to work on trusting that if I start the ball right of target that it will come back. For much of the front I hit irons perfect distances but they drew left of target. On the par three No. 7 hole that really hurt me as I ended up left of the hole chipping downhill to a pin tucked at the back of the green. I bumped the ball about a yard short of the green and it ran on, but left me an awful downhill putt. I ended up three-putting from about 10 feet. Ouch.

Absolutely love The Falls, got to play there last year. Really fun design, and even though it's not long it's not easy!

This is a bit different. I was starting to post my Wednesday mediocre round while @ our (SWMBO) favorite pool. The pool overlooks a few holes of an Exec w 8th hole really close.
I started watching a foursome of guys my age (72-78) and 3 guys hit their tee shots while the 4th was still in his cart. Then the 4th got out of his cart grabbed his driver (hole approximately 125 yards) and I realized this guy must have had a stroke as his left side was obviously paralyzed. I watched as he painfully teed his ball and hit driver to front of green. He slowly went back to his cart. The other 3 finished up while waiting for their friend. He got to his ball, 3 putted and slowly returned to his cart.
What was riveting was his perseverance and determination. Also obvious was his 3 friends/playing partners who didn’t treat him as disabled but an equal partner/player. SWMBO and I were able to observe the next hole tee shots and again he did OK, one handed and not giving.
I was impressed w his playing partners who treated him as an golf equal. Kinda cool morning, gave us a great feeling.

I had the biggest roller coaster round of my life today. I was under net par the entire front 9, came within a foot of my first ace and sat at 42 at the turn. Best 9 ever on my home course. Through 15 holes, I was net -4 but I’d been outside all day and the 100° heat was getting to me and I knew it. Told myself all I had to do was keep it in play and get out of the last three holes with bogeys. I then proceeded to drop 4 strokes over the last 3 holes and ended up tying my best round there at 90. Can’t believe I was that close, playing that well and I just flat ran out of gas. On top of that, on 17 a pair of older gentlemen caught me, I was walking so I’d usually let them go, but since there was 1 hole to play I figured I’d be alright. Well I’m walking across the 18th fairway after hitting my approach, and I hear a tee shot, then I hear a ball, and I look up as it wizzes by about 6 feet in the air right in front of me. It takes a lot to make me mad, but I was so drained it really ticked me off. Without even thinking about it, I casually kicked his ball out of the rough and into the trees. He pulled up and said “sorry, didn’t see you there” but I was in the middle of the fairway, 200 yards in front of him and he just watched me chip and putt on the last hole. I just smiled and waved and walked toward the green. Not sure I handled that the best way but passive aggressive is better than aggressive I guess.

Nice round!  Now that you've had a good round (don't worry about running out of gas, we all do that), you will good thoughts to draw upon the next time.  Use them.  Positive thoughts lead to positive results.

We don’t stop playing the game because we get old; we get old because we stop playing the game.”

That's a great round on a beast of a course! Had to look at pictures of the course online and that place is beautiful! Great prices, too.

It’s a really nice hat. Great material will go nicely with the clubs.....when that day comes. I’m laughing every day as he waits

Finally a round without any three putts! And my driver cooperated with me today, also.

Didn't actually strike my irons very well, but I kept almost everything in play, and my length off the tee really helped. My 4 hybrid has become a fairway finder for me, and that's been a huge benefit.

There is definitely still a lot to work on. I hooked a ball on the par three No. 12 hole out of play, but thankfully hit my second tee shot well and two-putted to save double bogey. I had a lot of little chips that I didn't get close to the hole, and I just missed converting a few putts inside of 8 feet.

Beautiful morning for golf!

Hahahaha, yes that is so very true. Golfers are gluttons for punishment, some would say.

I keep reminding myself that golf is a game of misses and that I'm going to hit bad shots. Just need to minimize the damage over the course of the entire round.

Back at my "home" course this morning. Hit the ball all over, but putter straightened out on the 7th hole and dropped 2 bombs for birdies. 41-37 today.

Played a true practice round with a couple extra wedges and an x-stiff 3 iron in the bag. Hit the ball all over the place, similar to when I broke my first swing speed plateau. Reinforces my thoughts that speed comes first, then face control. I did hit a 250 yard 3 iron though, so there’s that. Otherwise my chipping and putting felt pretty average and I gave myself different looks at common pin placements.

19 days ago I had my first hole in one ever.  Today I shot my lowest round ever; an even par 72.  To follow that up I played an additional 9 holes for my league and shot a -1 35.  Can't beat a day when you play 27 holes and finish a combined one under par!
Apparently 2020 is the best year ever.  Nothing else important has happened this year, right?

You're fairly new here but let me explain something. There are way more rumors floating around in your golf bag than a high school dance. And they know exactly when to toe the line and when they don't have to. It really is a crazy phenomenon but it has been proving time and time again.

This is true

19 days ago I had my first hole in one ever.  Today I shot my lowest round ever; an even par 72.  To follow that up I played an additional 9 holes for my league and shot a -1 35.  Can't beat a day when you play 27 holes and finish a combined one under par!

Apparently 2020 is the best year ever.  Nothing else important has happened this year, right?
