yungkory
42 3/7 FiR 3/9 GiR 18 putts (2 3-jacks) After 3 straight pars out of the gate, playing in a 2-club wind with a random rain on the 3rd hole, I thought this was going to be a decent round. Burned a couple edges and had one really bad 3-putt. The other 3-jack I'm blaming on pin placement and not upset about. 4th hole has a 2-tier green and the cup was literally put on the slope? Aimed 3 feet left of the hole and still missed on the low side, lame. Sailed both of the par 3's due to not being able to judge the wind properly, frustrating day overall. edit: also still striking the ball with my irons like horse manure. go figure the two times I pured it today were 9 irons that sailed the greens. TR1PTIK
Finally put a round together! After getting some new clubs that just had a different feel to them, I tried adjusting my swing a bit because it seemed like I was getting out of position at the top. It started off as a pretty seamless change at first, but has caused me all sorts of trouble as of late. Well after spending some time on the range, figuring out how to make my "normal" swing work I decided to go for it today. Started out a little rough - my tee shot on #1(a par 5) was a hooking dive bomber into the nearest fairway bunker. Chunked it from the sand, then hit a chunky 4-iron up near the green. Chipped on and barely missed to save par. Things got progressively better from there, but still a few hiccups along the way. I played by myself and wound up playing through 4 foursomes. While trying to hurry through these groups, I hooked one drive, bladed two wedges, and swiped one putt left of the hole. So, potentially 4 shots that could have been much better. I also racked up 4 errors - shots where I either selected the wrong club, or attempted a high risk/low make shot (for me). All said and done, I shot an 85 which is 6 shots better than I have ever played this particular course - 32 putts (one 3-putt), 57% FIR, and 28% GIR (if I get those two bladed wedges back, would've been 39%). Considering I haven't scored in the 80's since maybe January, I will absolutely take that! Popular Post MaxEntropy
I took the day off to play today. It was the best round I've put together in quite a while. 41/42 for an 83 (par 72). 6 of those strokes came in a 4 hole stretch on the back. 12-15 on the course I played are always a struggle for me, especially 12 and 14 (both par 5's) but was happy to walk off with a bogey on both of those. The doubles on the other two were stupid - two unplayable lies from hitting too far on the second shots. Had a chip-in birdie, 7 pars, 8 bogies, and the 2 doubles. Nothing worse than a double is an accomplishment for me these days. 30 total putts, but I was too short on way too many first putts. Greens were slower than our league course and I never really adapted. fozcycle, TR1PTIK, downlowkey and 7 others 10 Quote Driver: Epic Speed 9* (set -1) MMT 70X 3W: Tour B JGR Recoil 760ES 3H, 4H: Tour B JGR 19*, 23* Recoil 780ES 4-AW: Tour B JGR HF2 Modus3 Tour 105 SW: RTX Zipcore Black Satin 54* LW: TAIII Black 58* Putter: Scottsdale TR Senita Bag: BigMax Dri Active Lite Ball: TP5x or AVX (yellow) Pushcart: BigMax iQ+ Testing Complete, Final Review Posted: Sub70 TAIII Forged Wedges
TBS
Just finished up playing RTJ Oxmoor valley short course. Started the round off hitting it close with a tap in birdie. Then fell apart a little bit. Hit 9 greens and finished +18. Could have had 2 other birdies but had issues reading the greens. Chipping was also a struggle which has been decent. And it was blazing hot. Playing early tomorrow morning, hoping to turn it around on the Valley course. Short courses are really fun but man can they be challenging! Popular Post CarlH
Took a tune-up lesson the other day from my head pro at the club. He's worked with me for at least 10 years and is familiar with my tendencies and swing. Anyway, we tweaked a couple of things after he pointed out that I'd let the ball drift back in my stance and become a bit too flat on the backswing again. Went out the next morning and it was a total disaster for the first 6 holes. I'm talking worm burners and wicked slices. Couple that with greens that were fast as lightning in prep for the member-guest tourny. Anyway, shot horrible until I finally settled down about hole number 8. Went on to birdie 9, 10, and 13. Finished the round with some confidence that better days will return soon. Missed a lot of putts on the slick slopes, but limped in with an 85. Now, that's over my handicap, but given my horrendous start (thinking it was like 4 doubles on the first 6 holes), I was pleased with the turn-around. Peaksy68
Strange round, strokeplay off the back marks. Drove it ok, absolutely butchered my fairway woods. Irons were either really good or really poor. Putted poorly, with a few very soft 3 putts. Somehow managed to only be 3 worse than my daily handicap of 8, 82/74. Jmikecpa
First round today of the Governor’s Cup at my club which I said I wouldn’t play and got talked into. Had to give 5 pops in the Championship Flight and lost 4 of the 5 holes I had to give shots on. I squeaked our a one over 72 and won the match 2&1. The putter is starting to heat up at the right time now if I could just drive it better I would have a pretty good game right now. Onto round 2 tomorrow and playing straight up for a change. CarlH
I'm playing in a couples Chapman format tournament next weekend in Grants Pass, OR and had our practice round today with my golfing partner. 3 hour round as it was just the two of us and it wasn't very crowded prior to our 8:45 tee time. Anyway, shot 38/39 for a 77 today. Decent ball striking. 2 birdies, one par from a lateral drop from a hazard. No doubles! Felt good to play decent again after the struggles on the course lately. Lesson paid off. First time playing with this lady. She's a 15 handicap, keeps her ball in play, albeit not very long. Chapman format should bode well for us. We'll see. daviddvm
Played my home course Thursday in extreme heat, okay I live in Houston what do I expect? This is possibly the last round with a full bag of Titleist clubs as I direct my focus and devotion to #COBRACONNECT4 #MGSCOBRA2020. On to the round...Front nine pretty much sucked! But I rebounded on the back nine for a reasonable round of 86. Obviously two highlights were #10 and #17. Arccos has me 8' from the pin on 17 but a picture is worth a thousand words. 3'2" greens were extremely firm with the 100 plus heat this time of year in H-town and this 9 iron bomb left no mark but landed about two feet short and danced to a stop right here. TBS
Played RTJ Oxmoor Valley, Valley Course, this morning. The dew was very heavy and they had just cut earlier in the week so lots of grass clippings. My usual golf buddies were out of town, so I was paired up with a three some. Very nice guys who didn't speak much English but they were great at laughing off bad shots and celebrating the good ones. I need to learn more from them. I had 9 FIRs but only 5 GIRs. Short game was still an issue with multiple holes with multiple chips. I have to hit it close to score. Shot a 91. Didn't drive the ball very well either and I have learned it's really hard to score if I'm not driving it to the landing area. Popular Post Kenny B
I have GOT to play better!! I didn't think it would happen for awhile, but my wife and I tied today at 85. Her last 3 rounds have been 84, 87, and 85; the 87 was in the Wed Ladies league. She hasn't beat me since just before my total knee replacement in 2014; I was in pain. A triple and a double along with 2 3-putts (which I rarely do) on the front nine did me in. FOCUS!! We had a hawk's nest in the trees by the driving range all spring. Now we have two new young hawks on the course. Lots of food available; squirrels running all over. My wife feeds them peanuts, salted of course for seasoning!! When a ball landed in the fairway, one of these hawks dropped down from the tree to check it out. We got pretty close to it before it took off. sirchunksalot, yungkory, cksurfdude and 12 others 15 Quote “We don’t stop playing the game because we get old; we get old because we stop playing the game.”

I actually struck the ball extremely well though, that was awesome! Having some other shots taking the pressure off makes things easier, but I was super happy with it. Got to the men's long drive hole and saw the marker was only about 240ish out there. Banana sliced my drive 40 yards left Teed up another just for kicks and absolutely crushed it. I did chip and putt well so that helped keep the score from ballooning. Just not comfortable this morning standing over the ball at all. With exception to one or two shots, I pretty much blocked the ball all over the course and struck stuff poorly, including two stone-cold tops with my 4 hybrid on the front nine. Just got some lucky bounces, stayed out of the penalty areas and didn't get overly frustrated with myself. Popular Post josmi15
I shot a personal best at Cherry Hill in Ft Wayne. 43/46. I’ve never broke 90 there. I was 7 over the last 4 holes, so I can attest that I had one eye on the scorecard the last 4 holes. I limped home, but still proud of my score. 3 OB’s on last three holes, too. A lot of hard work finally starting to pay off. I’ve shot an 89 the last three rounds I’ve played. I have managed to limit my mistakes even with multiple OBs per round. I F’ng love this game! Popular Post GolfSpy AFG
After consecutive PB rounds of 75 and 74 that I posted about here, I've followed with a 79 last weekend and an ugly 85 yesterday. Played poorly with just about every club... If there was a positive it's that, when I did make solid contact with driver, I was crushing it...hit several drives that left me with a club or two less than I would normally have for my second. I'm pretty convinced the SuperSpeed training is paying off. No 3-putts is nice too, but that just makes the overall score all the more embarassing. That said, distance is not a category on a scorecard. Bladed some irons from the fairway, pulled some others, hosel-rocketed a wedge...just a poor round in general. I'm going to chalk it up to lack of sleep, being dehydrated, and overall spending too much time golf-swinging instead of just trying to put the damn ball in the hole. I do know I have GOT to get better about clearing my head and just playing... ole gray, yungkory, Rickp and 7 others 10 Quote Driver: TSR2, Ventus Blue 6 S, 65g Stiff FW: TSR2 3w, 15, Ventus Blue 7 S, 70g Stiff Hybrids: Apex Pro 3H, Ventus Blue 8 S, 80g Stiff Stealth DHY 4H, Ventus Blue 8 S, 80g Stiff Irons: SMS 5-6, SMS Pro 7-PW, Aerotech Steelfiber i95 Stiff Wedges: SM9 48 F Grind, 52 F Grind, 56 M Grind, Aerotech Steelfiber i95 Stiff Putter: Sri-Hot 5K Triple Wide, Stroke Lab shaft Ball: Pro V1 Click here for my HONMA TR20 Official Review! Popular Post PMookie
79 (40/39) from the tips, 6990 (73.4/123). 64% of fairways, only 39% of greens. I missed four of them long due to not knowing distances with the new Honma irons. Burned the lip on three birdies, but putting didn’t feel right all day. Popular Post cnosil
35/40:75 today. 7 fairways, 10 greens, 29 putts. Played pretty well with a few bad shots; 4 birdies really helped the score. After my practice session last week using the GW for short game shots, I put that into play today and did really well. Definitely going to be something that I continue to do.
