Jmikecpa
After yesterday’s debacle I went and played AC Country Club today. Very windy as usual but the wind was reverse of the typical direction making the course play a touch easier. Even par front 9 with 9 pars and the a two over back 9 for 72. Actually struck the ball well and drove it a lot better. Hitting a few fairways in the wind gives a nice boost to the confidence off the tee. chisag
... Why is it that it only rains during a round when you are playing very well? Why can't it rain during a bad round when you could probably use the break? Why am I asking why when I know we don't have the answer? Had a great round going a few weeks ago and I was 3 under thru 6 holes and it started pouring with lightning while my iPhone said "0% chance of rain". I hit every green but 2 thru 12 holes today and was 3 under and the rain that was predicted for 6pm decided to roll in a 4pm. Very light rain to start so we played 2 more holes but I play without a glove and my grips got wet as the rain picked up and I had to leave the course. You know how it is, the driver is working great but the irons are a little off OR the irons are on fire but the driver isn't performing well but today was one of those days where everything was in sync since I left the chiropractors office and went straight to the course feeling excellent. That's exactly what was happening, in both my Tuesday and Saturday leagues, which are basically the same group of about 40+ guys. We usually play A and B flights, and it used to be the A's played the Whites and the B's played the Greens. Then guys realized the advantage of moving up to the Greens, and there would be days when only 3 or 4 guys were on the Whites. Tuesday was especially infuriating, because the Pro Shop runs that league, and they allowed this to go on. What ended up happening is all the really good players left, and started their own group. Now, under the new system, it's fun to hear those A players who play up complain about their strokes, when like you said, they've lost their advantage. Popular Post Kenny B
Yesterday I was invited to play at the other course in town. Free golf!! Over the past few years I have been a substitute for standing games of Wolf at this course. A guy owns a construction company and has a corporate membership, so he gets a foursome any time he wants. One of the regulars will be out of town for awhile, so I'm playing in his group for a couple of weeks on Tuesdays. The course is in rough shape. The irrigation pump went out last year, and the course hasn't recovered. Lots of weeds and clover. Bunkers are awful and we are allowed a free drop out of them. The rules for our Wolf game is that the person teeing off first can either howl after his tee shot, meaning he will play against the other three players for that hole. If he doesn't hit a good tee shot, he can pick a partner after their tee shot, but if he doesn't pick one before the next player tees off, he's stuck with the last person. It's required that each player Wolf at least once per nine holes. For a foursome that's four opportunities to Wolf. Holes 17 and 18 are reserved for the two players that are down in losses. Win a hole; you get a quarter from the other 3 players. Lose a hole; you give the other 3 players a quarter. Partners win or lose a quarter to the other team. Payment is made on the next tee box. If you are one of the players down by #17 and #18, you can Double Wolf, meaning if you win, you get two quarters from each player, or lose two to each player. Since the player teeing off first on #1 also tees off first on #9, that hole counts as a back nine hole, since the only other hole for that player on the back nine is #13. That player is nearly always ME. The guys tend to like playing certain holes, and I get what's left as a sub. How'd I play? Lost a Wolf and tied a Wolf. Shot 86; had two birdies. Drove the ball well; didn't miss a fairway, but either my GPS yardages were off or I wasn't striking my irons solid because I missed a lot of greens. Took out two guys with my birdies; both on par 3's. #8 is a par 3 playing 180y, and I was the only one on the green. I had a 40 footer with a 3 foot left to right break that died in the hole. The other par 3 was an uphill 148y shot that I put 6 feet short of the pin and drained the straight putt. For the round I was up 6 quarters, so I made $1.50 and got to play for free with a cart. Popular Post cksurfdude
Played 18 yesterday back at a track I was at a month ago for the first time, and while I did waaay better this time .. at least 20 (TWENTY!) strokes better .. I can still see lots of room for improvements, including.... .. tee shots were a mixed bag, and while most were playable a lot of those could've been hit more solidly; .. iron shots were mostly weak with a lotta chunks, a couple of thins, and most were short of my typical distances; .. chipping was mostly solid and while I was getting the ball onto the green, I was rolling it way past the pin and leaving myself a long first putt - and these greens were fast and very contoured - so I blew a lot of chances at up & downs; .. putting was mostly ok but then I had trouble sinking some close-enough (w/in 5 ft) second putts... I will count my first ball towards handicap but the 2nd is my “any ahole can do it a second time” score....it’s my what I should be doing the first time mentality and has seriously helped. i started doing it about 3 years ago because I was playing alone a lot and I wasn’t seeing results. The 2nd ball taught me and engrained the correct shot in my memory. Part of the reason I’ve developed my game IMO. Some of the most fun rounds are when I’m playing 2, allows me to laugh off the first shot and realize “I can make that shot if I just do it” I do the same thing when I play the par 3 course. Second shot always seems a bit more relaxed for me. Good place to try different clubs on shots and work out distances too. Rickp
... I love this post. If you are not competing or using your score for your handicap, golf should be fun. Creative ways to play and enjoy the game should always be considered. I played with a guy a few weeks ago that apologized for taking a few "free" drops from deep heather. Wind was a good 15 mph and he was not gonna break 100 so taking penalty strokes is just an attitude breaker for many. Nothing wrong with wanting to play by the rules and keep track of every stroke with penalties regardless of your score, but having fun should always be a top priority. And 20 strokes better sounds like a Ton Of Fun!!! Can’t argue w that.Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpy GolfSpy_SHARK, MDGolfHacker and cksurfdude 3 Quote Rick Left Hand, Driver; PXG 0311XF Cypher 50 gr Senior 5 wood; Ping 425, Senior Shaft 55 gr 7 wood; Ping 425, Senior Shaft 55 gr 5 hybrid; Cally Steelhead, Hazardous R2 Irons; Mizuno JPX 923HM 7-GW Recoil 460 F2 Wedges; Titleist S9 54*, Mizuno SW 56* Putter; Waaay too many to list
Popular Post chisag
... Another kinda strange day as I was really swinging well and just had a couple of bad shots pop up out of nowhere. Had an easy chip to a par 5 after a bombed (for me) driver and killer 3 wood and hit it thin and 30 feet past the hole. Then just flat wiped across 2 drives after driving the ball really well the other tee shots, but those wipe slices put me in deep rough. Ended up 2 over after several pitches/chips almost went in. ... But the shot I wanted to talk about and the reason I am posting is a 71 yd shot into a par 5 with a good 15-20 mph wind dead in my face. It would take a perfect swing and contact with my 52* because that much loft can easily balloon a little into a strong wind, but I used any new favorite short game weapon. T100-S wedge that just says 48 on it. I was able to 3/4 swing it and trust the distance with a smooth swing that keeps the spin down. It ended up about less than a foot from the hole for a tap in birdie. I am using this 48* wedge much more than my 46* P760 and it is just so nice to go back to a traditional 48* wedge again. Popular Post ncwoz
I've decided I'm gonna try to focus on the positives, I have a tendency to focus on the negatives and I feel the effects in my game. I'm recognizing the growth areas, but focusing on the positives. League tonight: 48(+12, net +1), 3/7 FIR, 2/9 GIR, 15 putts My chipping was the best it's ever been for a full round, which is the biggest reason for the low amount of putts. Kept the 3 putts off the card, so I like that! Putting was solid too. Lagged well and hit a few inside 10 ft. Nothing insane, but really solid. Off the tee I had a few absolute lasers. 2 with the driver, 1 with the hybrid. Really had 1 silly course management mistake and then 4 absolutely terrible swings off the tee were honestly the only things that really hurt me. 2 snap hooks and 2 that I legitimately hit 2" before the ball. For me when I start getting crazy like that it's really either a concentration thing or a negative thought standing over the ball. One of the chunky ones I literally thought to myself "I just step off this" and...didn't lol. Chunked it 20 yards into the hazard. As poor of a scoring day as it was, it was the best all around short game 9 holes probably ever. I've really been working on it, so it feels really good for that to pay off. I want to be more confident and positive in my head, and make a few better course management decisions, and I think I'll be really happy with how my game is coming along! cnosil, MattF, MaxEntropy and 9 others 11 1 Quote Right Handed Driver: 9° Speedzone (HZRDUS Smoke Green 70g X-Stiff shaft) 2 Hybrid: 18° Exotics EXS Pro (Evenflow Black 6.5) (2020 MGS Official Review here) 3/Driving Iron: 18° UiHi Iron (MMT Utility TX 105g shaft) Irons: 4-GW T100 irons (Nippon Modus 120 X-Stiff shafts) (2021 MGS Official Review here) Wedges: 54° & 58° TSW Forged (Dynamic Gold S300) Putter: ER2B (2019 MGS Official Review here) Ball: MAXFLI Tour X Bag: Hoofer Lite WITB thread here
