How'd you play?

Let’s see, focus on the positives or tale of two cities?  I have two extremely different 9’s

Front 9 I was a scrambling mad man. Good chips and solid putts left me sitting at +1. Easily my best 9 ever even though it was pretty much effortless.

Second 9?  +17. PLUS SEVENTEEN!!!  Way ugly.  Nothing went right, nothing felt right.  Just sad.  Should I feel good or bad?

My wife and I were treated to golf at our sister course in Pasco, WA by our tax accountant (We treated him to golf at our course last week).  We haven't played this course in over a year.  It's a nice course, but 200y longer for me than similar tees at my course.  The greens have a different grass that is very smooth; nice to putt on, and they are very receptive to approach shots.  Our greens are a little faster and harder.  I had a little trouble getting the ball to the flag, as I was allowing for the normal rollout that I didn't get.  The extra length shows up on three long par 4's and a very long par 3 that I cannot reach in regulation; bogeyed all four of those holes.  I used my 3W more today than any round I've played this year.

Shot 81... 41/40.  10 pars, 7 bogeys and I had one brain f@rt on the short par 4 #12 and made double.  Chipped and putted very well.  Teed off at 6:15am (dang that's early!)... finished 3 hours 5 minutes later, which was nice because it was 101º in the afternoon.

Like absolute trash, is how I played. (88, 46/42). Ugh. Playing “golf swing” the ENTIRE round. I played with the Honma rep, and a former co-worker at the CC here in town. I’ve never played well there, and my co-worker has a jinx on me somehow. He’s scratch/+1 and I just cannot play rounds with him. I’m not intimidated, I just can’t concentrate and I put too much pressure on myself to play well.

Just awful. It was 110* heat index. The humidity was ridiculous. 6 gloves in rotation, and sweat flying off the forearms on every shot! Ugh. I hate playing like that in front of people....

4 Fairways and 4 greens

14 putts with SIX one putts

Hit a couple of pure irons finally. No thins but did chunk a 5i like 80y, then got up and down for birdie #golf.

Had 6 putts through the first 6 holes, then 6 over the next 2 holes. Finished with back to back 1 putts. Putter is money, lag putting is not. Probably a product of only being able to practice 8' max at home. Interested to see how the Exputt test goes!!!

I had a fabulous round with my favorite golf mates today... we played our local municipal course, all scored below our handicaps, and had more laughs than should be legally allowed.  We were on the tee at 7:30am, and were finished before the heatwave could effect us...just a great day!

Feel good!  +1 on the front, definitely feel great about that!  Back 9, it happens... Focus on the good!

Well interesting set of 9 hole rounds the past few days. Played the back and the front 9s over the past week. The back 9 was in league night and went to the range. Fired off a couple of shots and found a swing that worked tentatively. I ended up being able to fire irons but drives were all over which was great for about half of the holes.

I carded a 45 but should have been better had I not taken a triple on the last hole. I also double the second to last hole after nearly dumping a tee shot in the water.

Got a quick lesson based off the video from a guy at work who used to be an assistant pro. Ironically I had been trying to force my weight forward early in the swing which wsa why I was struggling. Needless to say I starting bombing drives, but then the short game decided to go. Carded a terrible 45 on the front as I finished double triple double. 

Playing at least once if not twice this weekend so curious to see if I continue driving the ball well and if I can get my chipping and putting game going.

As a guy who most often plays bogey golf, I don't know if I've ever had a round with no bogeys. So there's that, whatever that's worth

So, the Seniors and the Ladies had our annual mixed scramble.  Minimum 3 drives per player format.  We did okay.  Nothing great and certainly didn't win, but we did have fun.  We shot a 3 under par round.  We had my 8 handicap, a 29, a 23, and a 17 handicap player for our team.  Distance was an issue for 2 of them, but we all contributed.  I think we used my drive 8 times.  My best shot was when we took one of the ladies tee shots on a shorter par 4 and were 175 yards out and my approach left us with a 4 foot putt .... yes, we did make the putt.

Shot 86 (par 71) with @MattF today. There was some good (2 birdies, 5 pars), some bad (5 bogies), and some ugly (6 doubles with a stretch of 4 in a row, all 4 involving penalties).

It was a great time, though, and I was generally hitting irons better than I have since starting SuperSpeed. Still some ugly shots, but it seems progress is being made.

As @MaxEntropy said above, we played this afternoon at Brookledge in Cuyahoga Falls. I started out HOT, pared the first 3 holes, ended up 43 on the front. Then the round turned into HOT GARBAGE. I have no idea what was going on but all of a sudden I was hitting my irons dead right. It was the opposite of a duck hook, they'd start straight then do a 90° dive to the right. Meeked out a 49 for a 92. I'm hoping this rubbish doesn't show up on Sunday.

Played the short 9 near me this afternoon. Started off a little iffy .. tee shot pulled left, approach ok-ish but a touch short going uphill, chip on a little "exuberant" as my wife and I call it, ie. too firm, missed my line on the downhill putt .. .. but somewhere in the middle of the round something .. I don't know what but holy heck I hope it sticks with me .. something turned "on" in my swing!

Felt like I was finally starting to stay balanced and swing through the ball vs hitting at it / trying to steer it towards a target. Wowwee!

#5 it started - good tee shot followed by.. wait for it... a good second!! Almost sunk the first putt.

Then... my nemesis hole. Solid tee shot down the middle into the dogleg; second shot was just over my 8i distance and I typically chunk/etc this shot so took the 7i and gripped down .. caught it square and watched the ball sail high over the green! I guess that's a "nice" mistake to have!

Did screw up the attempted pitch back on, but then almost sunk the next chip.

So no scoring records today .. +8 overall (short Par 35) but did finish the last five holes with 2 pars and dare I say 3 easy bogeys; in addition to that almost chip-in the other four first putts juuuust missed dropping.....

So yeah I am PUMPED for digging into the ExPutt to see how it can help me improve my speed, line and especially reads!

... Decent day with 2 bogies and 2 birdies but got paired up with 2 awesome dudes from England. Joe was hitting drives 300+ with regularity but finding all kinds of ways to throw away strokes. On #9 I got up and down again from deep rough next to the green. We had swirling 15-20 mph winds and hitting greens was tough all day. Joe (and John) would hit chips with little to no spin and run past the hole, then fearful of doing it again they would come up short the next time. They wanted to know how I was stopping my ball near the hole when I was flying it twice as far in the air but stopping it instead of running it past the hole. I showed them my club face and said the club head is moving fast enough to produce spin while traveling down and through the ball enough to make the grass get caught in the grooves. Hopefully they learned something about chipping. 

... But the real story was Joe hit another bomb on 18 that we laser'ed at 327. He was so far past me all day long but very humble about it. I hit my 9 iron from 152 (wind at my back) that never let the flag and had a 6 footer to shoot even par but Joe basically had a long pitch shot and turns to me and says "Hey Mate, I could use some advice. I was at an 83 on the tee and I have never broken 90. I am afraid if I hit it firm I will fly the green and be in that thick rough BUT if I don't hit it hard I know I will be in that bunker or that crazy think grass around it (heather lined bunkers). So Mate, should I hit it hard or easy?" I told him he should hit a pitch shot to the front right of the green and take the bunker or long in the rough completely out of the equation. It would leave a long putt to a back left pin but he could just lag it up there and still make par or 3 putt for bogie at worst. Joe LOVED that idea and hit his pitch just on the front of the green. He then proceeds hits his putt about 10 feet past the hole. His next putt was straight downhill and I said "You got this Joe, just feed it to the hole like you only wanna hit it halfway there". He hits it 8 feet past the hole. LOL, his nerves were just off the chart and I said "OK, just lag this short of the hole and then tap In in. Joe likes this idea but runs it 4 feet past the hole. OK, ok he still has a chance but misses and hits his putt 3 feet past the hole. He somehow manages to make the next putt for a 7 after 5 putting (4 putting from 10 feet) to shoot a 90.    I really hated to see such a good dude come up short but I guess it was a learning experience and hopefully next time his nerves don't get the best of him. What a crazy game we play...

... It was! I get paired up with so many good people but every now and then I run into an awesome person and by 2 holes in it's like we have been playing together for years. Today was one of those days.

That is awesome. I played with a guy on Monday afternoon that was like that. It’s like we had been buds forever and just out having a good time.

Shot a 103 again yesterday. Its been feeling like I'm hitting the ball better than 103, but blow a few blow up holes and penalties really hurt. Also, my putting wasn't so great. I played by myself and i find that I rush my putts when I play by myself. I need to slow down a bit a make sure my putt is lined up correctly. When I play with others, I take more time while they are putting.

Funny, I struck my irons really well today, chipped wonderfully, but just had a couple blow up holes that I had been previously avoiding.

First real round with the #CobraConnect stuff and I was happy to get the irons sorted out. Hit some monsters off the tee with the long irons. Struggled a bit with the driver (some skied ones), I think I need to switch back to a shorter tee. Distances are still something I'm sorting out as well as they are definitely longer than my Maltby PTMs.

After opening with five pars, I double-bogeyed the par 3 No. 6 hole with a four (!!!!) putt because I just flat out lost my focus after hitting the green from the tee. Doubled No. 7 as well with an awful drive that nearly went two fairways over, and then on the back had another double bogey on the par 3 12th (hit 9 iron over green), a really bad three-putt for bogey on No. 14 from less than 30 feet away and then a triple bogey on No. 16 after a skied drive, a poor hybrid shot and two wedges that cleared the green in both directions. Whoops.

Just gotta dial in those iron distances!

(Also, playing with a gap from 48 to 58 isn't ideal, either .)
