MaxEntropy
Another league night where I was "this close" to putting together a great round. I guess with a league HC of 8, a +5 is pretty great for me. I opened with the obligatory double, but ended up with 2 birdies (including a chip-in on a par 3 and left an eagle putt short ). I topped tee balls on two consecutive holes but managed to recover somewhat decently to bogey both of those. SuperSpeed has definitely helped, as I hit a few irons quite a bit further than normal, so I will have to learn to adjust. cksurfdude
Played 9 this afternoon; a little slow .. 2:45 round time .. but a fun course haven't been on in a few years and we were paired with a nice older couple. So typical golf for me, I guess - some good shots, some silly errors... Putting was not as sharp as prior round - had 2 3-putts where I got fooled by a change up in speed .. to slower .. and left the first one way short on a very sloped sidehill break both times.... Finished with 2 pars but 2 doubles (the 3-putts) and rest bogeys for a bogey average, with 19 putts. Kenny B, Rickp, sirchunksalot and 3 others 6 Quote WITB of an "aspiring" play-ah ... zrumble
Been having a rough time at work recently, too much to do, not enough time. So today I decided to not keep score or track stats and go pound some golf balls. I got into a rhythm near the end of the round where you could no longer hear the ball coming off the clubface. It was more dead square for longer than ever before. My buddy was with me and taking notes. I was averaging 326 off the tee and missed 2 fairways all day. Didn’t putt well or chip well, but my brain wasn’t in it. Just trying to feel the flow. sirchunksalot, MattF, cksurfdude and 1 other 4 Quote Stats: 5'4", Male, R-Handed, Moderate Tempo, Driver SS 115mph Driver: Taylormade SiM Max 9*, TM Ventus Blue 6X 3w/5w: Callaway X-Hot, S-flex Fubuki shafts 3h: Tour Edge EXS Pro, Smoke Black 80g 6.0 4i-PW: Mizuno MP-4, DG S300 Wedges: Titleist SM7 56* Wedge: Callaway Jaws w/ 12* of bounce
sp0rtsfan86
After the tournament took an entire week off after feeling burnt out on golf. Somehow it's made my game even better despite.. well ...find out below. Monday showed up to league night against the nemesis team. They've beaten us twice and it's been death-match when it comes to gimmies. My partner had a rough round but I pulled together my best 9 ever. Shot 35, although probably would have shot 38 or so with the amount of putts given. I hit a 15 foot birdie putt and then next hole went driver 5 iron chip for an eagle 3. Shot of the day was probably the last hole, 192 yards with water left. Hit a choked down 8 iron to 30 foot and gave myself a look at birdie, but settled for par. That shot was fun because I told my teammate watch me hit this 8 iron nearly 200 yards. Oh about that weird part: I did this all barefoot. I have a pair of footbeds I move from shoe to shoe, I put those in the car but forgot any shoes. Decided to go barefoot and had a great round. Brings me to yesterday: Why not try it again. Played 9 holes barefoot and shot a 38 after a bogey bogey start. Highlight was driving the green 290 ish yards and nearly holing the eagle putt. Tapped in for a par. Don't think I'll always go barefoot, but can't say it's hurt my game. GolfSpy AFG
Another "meh" 79 but I see signs of coming out of my recent funk. Had a horrendous start, 5 over through 3, but the day got better. Frankly, I blame the start on the starter...we had an 8:06 tee time and got called to the tee at 7:45, while I was still on the range and hadn't hit the putting green yet. Honestly, I should have made it to the putting green by then, but I hadn't, and sure enough, first hole was a 3-putt. tony@CIC
It took me almost a day to get over my round last night at men's league 9 hole match play. Normally I'm in the low 40's and consider a bad round to be mid 40's. Last night I had 2 balls in the water, 2 OB and 1 unplayable, closing out the last night of league play at 52. Still shaking my head as to what happened. I could blame the SS protocol in the morning, the excessive heat and humidity, etc. etc. But in the end no one to blame but myself. Mtbryant01
79 - 40/39 2 birdies, 7 pars, 9 bogeys 8 FIRs and 8 GIRs 33 putts (1 3 putt and 4 1 putts) I played my home course at RTJ Oxmoor Valley Ridge course. It was raining on 17 of the 18 holes. It would go from a drizzle to steady rain and back to a drizzle all day. I purchased a FJ Rain glove from the pro shop and it worked like a charm. I’m intrigued to see if it also works with a lot of sweat. I finally birdied a hole I’ve never had good fortune with. It’s a 3 shot par 5 hole, can’t use driver off the tee or you’d go swimming. Hit a 3 wood, 5 iron, 60 degree to 5 feet and sunk the putt. This is now 5 rounds in a row for breaking 80. TR1PTIK
Haven't posted about a round in a while, but I had a fairly decent one yesterday that was so close to being really great. A couple of wayward tee shots and numerous putts that missed by mere inches were all that kept me from potentially setting a career best. Despite starting off double, double, I played the front nine at 4-over (3 pars, followed by a bogie, 2 more pars, and a birdie on #9). 14 putts, 4 fairways, 3 greens (I scrambled my butt off) and 1 penalty (a lost ball on #2). Though I still had plenty of highlights, the back nine was notably different at 11-over (2 triples, 2 doubles, a bogie, and 4 more pars). 17 putts, 3 fairways, 3 greens, and 2 more penalties (another lost ball, and a water ball). My putter was certainly less reliable on the back nine. I had a solid look at birdie on all the holes I parred and all of them missed by an inch or two (bad reads on my part) including a lip out on the last hole... I also had my only 3-putt of the round on #12 which contributed to one of those triple-bogies. Highlights of the day came at holes 9 and 17. #9 is a dead straight Par 5 that also plays downwind most of the time. I split the fairway with a 324-yard bomb that left me 155(ish) yards from a front-right pin location. I tugged an 8-iron hole high to the front-middle portion with what looked to be a straight downhill putt. Gave it a soft tap and was tracking to the hole before making a right turn in the last 6-8 inches. Tap in bird. #17 is a long Par 3 with a long kidney-shaped green that (from front-to-back) moves uphill and to the right. Yesterday, it played 229 yards to a back-right pin and I hammered my 20* hybrid to the front middle and watched as it rolled up and around to finish about 12 feet from the hole. Another seemingly straight downhill putt that broke right within the last foot. Tap in par. Popular Post chisag
... Well my T100-S must have found out I ordered a P770 4 iron because in 20 mph winds on a links style course they really led the way to a 2 under 70. Quite a few partial shots, knockdowns and full swings to ride the wind. Hit the pin on the 167yd par 3 17th, and played a 9 iron to 6 feet on 18 form 145 that I launched high and let the wind bring the ball to the hole. ... 2 shots that stood out. 157 with a right to left wind, I wanted to hit a cut 6 iron to hold the wind but double crossed myself and hit a pull that caught the cart path, leaving me a 45yd shot to a hidden pin where I could only see the top of the flag because of mounds around the green. Thankfully it was back into the wind and I could be aggressive and threw up a 58* that left me an 8 footer I made to keep my momentum going. Then struggled a little on 15, a 573 yd par 5 into that 20 mph wind. Hit a low hook off the tee that I pulled into the rough. Followed that with a Cobra Utility leaving me a long 165 for my 3rd shot and pushed it a little leaving me a chip/pitch just off the right side of the green but nestled down into medium rough by about 1". I had a good 60 feet to the pin and the guy I was paired up with said he thought for sure I would bump and run something that could take advantage of all that green but just laughed when I almost holed my 58*, missing an inch to the left. I explained that a bump and run is certainly the better shot under those conditions but I use my 58* for everything simply because I have confidence using it. In practice rounds this summer I have been experimenting with bump and runs using my sw and pw but under the pressure of scoring I don't have the confidence yet to use that shot. ncwoz
Whew! Played Wallinwood Springs near Grand Rapids, MI and let me tell you, it's a tale of two nines. Opening 9 is relatively open, challenging but fair. The back, however, is probably the toughest 9 hole stretch I've played. Not to mention, we were dealing with steady 12-15mph winds, with gusts probably in the upper 20s. The entire back nine runs next to a river, swamp, and pond/lake, with water in play on every single hole. For example: 602yrd par 5 11th. Fairway is only about 20 yards wide for the first 320 yards or so, with a swamp left and river right. Or the 16th, a 441yd par 4 with water both sides, and a bottleneck that keeps you from going anywhere further than about 250 off the tee, but leaves you with 150-160 to the green which is protected left and short by water and a large tree. Or the 18th hole, a 550yd par 5 with trees blocking half of the only 30 yard wide fairway. If you don't/can't play a fade this hole, good luck. You basically have to hit a dead straight shot and only have about 5 yards of wiggle room. All that said, here's how I did: 41:49; 90 (+18, net 0) 33 putts, 4/14 FIR, 5/18 GIR I was hitting some bombs off the tee, and was as accurate probably as I've ever been. On top of that, I was putting pretty darn well. I missed two make-able birdie putts, but they were certainly no gimmies. Did have a few 3-putts, but they were suuuper far away, more because of poor approach shots. All in all, I was pretty much money on the front. Got in a few sticky situations, but was able to get out of them relatively unscathed. But started off the back 9 in pretty rough shape. I doubled 4 holes in a row, 3 of the 4 were because of trouble off the tee. One was just a mental lapse around the green where I used 2 more strokes than I needed to because of the mental slip. Pulled things a little more back in order, but struggled on the 18th. I'd like to talk to the course about taking out the trees on the 18th tee shot, they are pretty insane haha. After all the challenging and intimidating shots on the back 9, I was pretty beat. I knew I didn't do nearly as well on the back, but after checking the score I was shocked to see I actually netted par! Not to mention, it's actually the second lowest handicap differential of the year for me! Now I feel validated with the tough course layout haha. And much happier with my performance now that I know that too! Well, I'm glad I saw this before posting my round today. I could have been a whiner, but "taking a beating like a man ( @tony@CIC) sounds better to me. I chipped in for birdie on hole #1 then posted an 88 with 3 doubles and a triple. sirchunksalot
I got out for nine holes in my last round of the MGS Hard Rock Challenge. Shot 48 hitting 3 fairways and 2 greens and had 21 putts. It was a nice day to be out, even with the recent rain and the humidity that goes along with it. I played better from tee to green than I have in a while, only hitting a couple of nasty tops. I can't say enough good things about the Cobra fairways I've been playing recently, they just perform...if I don't top them. That's user error and something I need to clean up, but I love, love, love them. The fairways hit stat is misleading because I wasn't missing them by much and when I did, I hit driver. The putter was ice cold, with the exception of a 60 foot lag I hit on the fourth hole to easy knock in range. Three 3 putts and 6 twos are not the best days on the green. I hit the putter 4 times on the 8th, with one being from off the green. It was a great day to test the new Vokey wedges, I'm liking them so far. On the 8th, my first chip landed short so I dropped a Srixon Z Star XV, hit a low spinny shot that bounced once and stopped cold. Ain't nothing like a fresh set of grooves. We're gonna become best friends. Kenny B, Rickp, edingc and 5 others

I just put two CBX's in my bag again, and although I'm okay with the 52, I'm not a fan of the 58. I like a more thinnish (if that's a word) look with that club. The CBX just doesn't look right to my eye when I try to open up the face around the green, and especially in the bunker. That has to be a "me" thing, because just about everyone else who has them says they're like cheating from the sand. For "me", not so much... I've had a couple of SM7's (52* F and 58*M) sitting in a cart for over a week now. I just tried to pull the trigger on them a few minutes ago, but I can't get the "gift card" option to work. Maybe it's for the best, because after the way I played today, I'm ready to overhaul my entire bag, LOL. It's probably wise to wait until morning, and if I still want them, just go into the shop and let them place the order. I thought about going with the CBX, as the cavity back traits of them are appealing. I think you'll like the SM7's and the grinds you are looking at are exactly the same as mine. I love the 52, it filed a gap in my bag I didn't know I needed until the woods and wedges challenge of CCC4. The M grind is great for opening the face and performs like I hoped. zrumble
When it’s not your day, it just not your day. I had a bad start to a round and couldn’t get off the bogey train on the back (played the 9s in reverse). Shot a 43 that felt like I was stalled the entire time. Then I finally started taking advantage of my drives on the front, another day of 296 yard average with 60%+ fairways hit. I was headed into the 8th hole +1 on the front coming off a pair of birdies Tugged an 8 iron a bit, hit a sprinkler head in the fringe and bounced over the OB fence left. Then on 9 I hit a drive that skipped through the rough and went down a hill into a patch of bushes, needed to take an unplayable but there was nowhere remotely close to drop the ball. So I hacked it the best I could, made it out into the rough. Ball buried itself so deep that I had no choice but to try and hack a wedge, ball came out like a missile and caught in a footprint at the lip of the green side bunker. Needless to say I took a double-double finish for a 43-41, 84. Popular Post artful_golfer
It was HOT! yesterday. I didn't play bad but I had a some blow up holes plus didn't putt my best which ruined my overall score. Like 3 balls in the water on one hole! Actually no one played exceptionally well in my ladies group because it was so hot. The index was 114 here in South Texas. We had to call EMS to send one lady I was playing with to the hospital. Once the heat starting getting to her it was surprising how fast she went from ok to big trouble - from one green to the next tee box. Another 114 index forecast for today. Drink plenty of water and stand in the shade my spy friends. Below: Part of my fun ladies group yesterday doing our Flamingo pose. We had to cancel our big Flamingo Tournament (because of COVID-19) but we all wore pink anyway for a play day. After play we had a putting and chipping challenge. For chipping, we had to land it in that Flamingo pool. Participating in our putting obstacle course challenge Love my LGA. Hot afternoon to be standing in the sun for a putting challenge!
