MattF
Shot a 90 this morning and I'm not mad about it. Reverted to my "old" swing the last 2 holes and hit the ball well, so I may be changing back to it. We'll see what happens Monday. Jmikecpa
Played early today and went off the back first and shot a 1 over 35 with two birds and three crap bogies. Drove it awful all day and putter and iron play made up for it. Turned to the front and went bonkers with birds on 2,3,4,5,6 & 8 and pars on 1,7 & 9 for a -6 31 to cap off a 66. Popular Post Rickp
Sloppy “Cart Path Only” again morning 9. Same thing happened at the muni I play most back in July. Got an email that carts must be shared and requesting a cart alone would be an additional $10 or $15 (can't remember which). I always walk but thought it was a pretty sh!tty thing to do and others must have felt the same. The very next day I received an apology email from the course that said they will not force anyone to ride together and they were sorry they misjudged the issue. I found out later the course was inundated with complaints as was the Park District President AND the Mayor. Sluggo42
Shot a nice little 74 today, with a little good and a little bad mixed in. I did make a point of playing the full day from the blues, instead of the combo tees. three of the bogies came on par 3's that were now 180-200 yarders, but I did have make-able par putts so can't cry too hard. Almost made a 3rd eagle in a row on the same hole in 3 consecutive rounds, but left it a foot short for the only birdie of the day. MavriK is becoming a game changer... Its so good... MDGolfHacker
Played 9 holes yesterday at Compass Pointe in Maryland after not playing for almost a month. No warm up, no expectations and just didn't think too much. Shot a 42 which is within my normal range of play, but the difference was that i was dropping putts to save par from all over the green! To say the putter was hot was an understatement! Even with poor GIR numbers, the putter became the big equalizer. The guys I normally play with mentioned the hot putter as well. Popular Post sirchunksalot
I was taking to my wife last night and told her I was tempted to take the clubs with me to work today in case we got off on time I could head to the course and get nine in. We had a good laugh, and I went to work leaving my clubs at home. Well, wouldn't you know it, they let us off on time. I rushed home, grabbed my clubs, and headed out to the course. Shot 52 with 2 fairways hit, 1 green, and had 19 putts. My wedge game was really, really bad for most of the round. I caught a case of the shanks and it took me a while to shake them off. It was almost discouraging, but I took a step back and finally found a groove. My best shot of the day came on the last hole, I missed the green right on my approach and landed in some deep rough. Had to hit a shot to an uphill green and hit the 60 to 12 feet. It was a rough start to the round, I was +12 through 5 and settled in to finish +4 on the last 4. I'm never super sharp playing after work, but was happy to end on a high note. I barely finished before it got too dark to see, but really enjoyed the beautiful day on the course. Popular Post CarlH
So, started the morning off with some work with my swing coach on putter stroke and alignment, along with some chipping. This afternoon, we had our final seniors event/banquet. Format was a shamble (everyone hits their drive, pick the best of the 4, then play your own ball in). Shot a 73 (non-postable since I didn't use my drives on most of the holes. The other 3 were playing shorter tee boxes, so I did get some advantages when they'd pound one out there past me. This shot is before he made some adjustments to my setup. We bent the putter 1.5 degrees up and had me get closer to the ball and be more upright. Paid off, as I putted fairly well in the afternoon. sirchunksalot, cnosil, MattF and 7 others 10 Quote Driver: Rogue ST Max (10.5* set at -1 and neutral) -- Mitsubishi Tensai Blue 55g R shaft Fairway: Rogue ST Max 3 wood (16.5*) and Heaven Wood (20*)-- Tensai Blue 55g R shaft Hybrids: Rogue ST Max 5H (23*)--Tensai Blue 55g R shaft Irons: Apex CF19 6-9, PW, AW -- KBS Tour Graphite TGI 70 shafts R +1/2 inch 3* upright Wedges: Edison 53* and 57* KBS PGI 80 Graphite +1/2 inch 2* upright Putter: L.A.B. edingc
Beautiful weather for some fall golf yesterday. Took the day off and drove out to one of my favorite courses that is down to $30 with cart for fall rates. They had punched greens almost two weeks ago so they were pretty much fully healed already, too. - 37/50 = 87 / 85 ESC (+15) - 10/14 FIR - 10/18 GIR (2 birdies) - 34 Putts (3 3-putts, 10 2-putts, 5 1-putts) I'm going to be kicking myself for a while about this round. Made the turn +1 (had an awful three-putt on the first par 5 that led to bogey), and was +3 through 13 holes before everything just came crashing down. Lost a 9 iron right off the par 3 No. 14 hole that led to a double bogey, and then recorded a 10 on No. 16 after a miserable hole from tee-to-green. Lost four balls over the last five holes, leaving a really sour taste in my mouth after playing so well earlier in the round. Oh well. That's golf I guess. I got a little tight as the round progressed because I knew I was playing so well and started making mistakes. Mentally, something to work on. I understand there are methods to try and evaluate break like Aim Point. I know it works well for some which is great. But you touched on something I have never understood. There are certainly times when I face a graduated break the entire putt but much more often there is nuance to putts. Starts straight but breaks at he hole or breaks little left then straitens out at the hole and of course starts breaking a little left and breaks back right at the hole. Even most putts that break one way or the other all the way to the hole, do not break the same amount along the way. I would be at a complete loss to feel the break with my feet at my ball and then judge how much it changes on the way to the hole. ... ALL putts have slope but not all putts have break. Meaning there is no such thing as a level putt because there is always some slope so water can run off the green. It may be dead straight but a hair uphill or downhill so one will have to be hit a little easier or harder than the other going in opposite direction even though they are both straight putts. I have a really good feel for reading greens and breaks and my mistake is almost always reading more break than is actually there. I am OK with that because it is consistent and allows me to make subtle changes on any given greens I could not make if my mistake is both high and low side. ... Green reading is a skill you either have naturally or you need to develop. As I have already stated every green has slope so the grass doesn't die when water sits on it. Look at the entire green to get an idea of where the water has to run off. Look for high sides or mounds and ridges that might effect a putt. Some designers love to trick golfers with a green that slopes left to right with an obvious hill on the left so all putts have to break left to right, then they put in a gentle counter slope that is difficult to see and can only be understood by time and experience. These are the times you see professionals miss a putt and go back to look at it a second time because it did not break the way they thought it did using all the clues. I think the very best way to start on any green is looking at it as a whole and seeing where the water will go if it rains. Personally I think that is one of the advantages of walking as you get a good view of the green as whole when you approach it, something everyone should be doing. Same thing in the middle of the green, look where the water runs from one side to the other and then see where it might re-direct before resuming it's path off the green because of a ridge or gentle slops. But if Aimpoint or another technical approach might help you, it is obviously something to explore. Kenny B, JohnSmalls, Rickp and 3 others 6 Quote Driver: Qi10 10.5* ... FrogginBullfish
I've not taken an actual AimPoint course but having seen people use it and a few YouTube videos with pros using it, I do employ some elements from it in my own green reading. You measure the slope with your feet at multiple intervals of the putt you're trying to read. I believe it's generally you take a reading at the ball, you take a reading at the halfway point and if the putt is long enough you take a third reading at the 3/4 point. After that there's a calculation you do with the slopes that a player has measured to determine starting line.I do the 2-3 slope checks on my putts but I've not gone through any of the calibration stuff with using levels and the arm distance calibration for green speed, so I mainly use the feelings I get from the slope checks with my feet to confirm what I see with my eyes. I've found this to be a method that works reasonably well for me. ... I understand there are methods to try and evaluate break like Aim Point. I know it works well for some which is great. So I was +4 today and shared first place with two othersI have been experimenting with the one plane swing and it has definitely made a difference in my game, especially my putting. Watching DeChambeau on tv got me thinking so I dribbled around and watched video of Moe Norman. I am not perfect on this yet, but have had some success. Our Fall Blitz, a 2 day quota tournament is next week. Hope my swing stays together for it. BTW, my putting was off the chart, making several putts over 10’ today. pulledabill
1st round in 6 weeks. Friend got me out of the house after losing my brother earlier in the week. Went out to Mallard Cr out in Lebanon and was treated to s beautiful 70 degree fall day. Started out even par after 4 then took a double par. Moments of brilliance and moments of wth. Too steep at times and struggled to bogey golf if lucky. Great day out before 9 months of Oregon rain. DiscipleofPenick
Got out withlakeeriegolfer at my home course. I shot an 82 with struggles on the back, he got all the birdies. Beautiful morning. I was cruising around till I felt a tweak in my back and by 13 I was hitting only big hooks. Still made a few pars but don't feel great. Aleve, tenze machine, and a few days of rest.
