Popular Post THEZIPR23
Friday 72 6/14 FIR 13/18 GIR 29 Putts Hit it great, super easy 72 without ever making a putt. Longest made putt of the day was 5 feet. Saturday 78 2/14 FIR 6/18 GIR 27 putts Had no idea where the ball was going all day long. Just a complete ball striking nightmare. Driver especially. I had 4 recovery shots on back 9 alone. Sunday 70 (par 73) 9/14 FIR 13/18 GIR 28 Putts Started on range warming up and still no idea where the ball was going. Wimpy push cut on first hole, still in fairway, with 166 left, hit 8 iron to 15 feet and freaking made it! A miracle. Swing got a little better throughout the day but overall was just ok. Much more forgiving course off the tee compared to my home club so I was able to get away with it a little more. Shot of the day was 17th hole, par 5. Trees on left cut second shot down to about a 20 yard gap. 273 out with the ball below my feet and I have to hit a 15-20 yard draw. Ball takes off on the perfect line about 15 feet high. Starts to turn left, lands about 10 yards short and rolls all the way back to the pin, leaving 24 feet for eagle. Left the eagle short directly in the hole but a fun shot either way. Kenny B
Walking 9 round with the old(er) guys today. Went to the course; it was 61º sunny with no wind. Five minutes before tee time, clouds rolled in and the wind started blowing about 15-20 mph... figures! Well, the Men's Club tournament was over yesterday, and the club removed the putting pins on the practice green; not sure why. They also spread a thin layer of sand on all the greens this morning after rolling them last Friday. As a result the green speed was a little slower than on the weekend; not much but a little slower. I had one birdie and one bogey for another EVEN PAR round of 37. Drives were OK; not great. but given the wind I was happy that I didn't have any bad tee shots. I wish I had time to play the back nine. Fairways: 5/7 GIR: 4/9 Putts: 13 The putter was working very well; made 3 putts over 8 feet, one for birdie on #6. On the par 4 #3 hole with wind from the right and water left, I started the ball down the right side and it ended up in the middle of the fairway. I had an 8i into the green over water with the pin front just over a pot bunker and bunker to the right and behind. I started the ball on the right side of the green and thought the wind had to move the ball a little left... Nope! Dead straight! Hit the edge of the green and kicked into the right bunker. 60º sand shot to 2 feet for a sandy par. Alf. Popular Post chisag
... Got greedy today and it cost me. No plans to play but 52* with partial sunshine and no wind so I said WTF and went out to play on an almost empty golf course. Hit my new DHy off the first tee and was very happy with the trajectory and distance. But by the second hole the sun went away completely and the wind picked up tooaround 7-10 mph. 3rd hole it started to drizzle and the temps dropped to 45*. I don't know what the 4th hole was like because I was headed to my car LOL. Fingers were already getting numb so I got a rain check... Alf. Popular Post cksurfdude
Played 9 over the weekend with my wife and her oldest son - good thing he was there, too, as he spotted at least 3 of my tee shots for me that I literally walked over with the fall sun and leaves! The good news is.. I'm starting to make contact with the ball better, certainly not every shot, but a few more each round. Had a few .. minor .. directional issues on a few, but followed up with good recovery shots. The bad news is.. I'm not scoring any better; still making enough sloppy mistakes to yield me more "other" holes. The badder news is.. my putting was waaaay way way off; just could not find the right speed .. the greens were slower vs what I've been playing and practicing on lately and I wasn't adjusting .. and on too many first putts that were 20 ft or more I left the ball like 6ft either long or short....! The silver lining here was I started pretty much everything on my intended line (well.. except for that first long uphill putt on #9 that I pulled left instead of setting myself up for a par after an unlikely GIR...). Popular Post Siamese Moose
I played in an occasional mist this morning. It was only the second time in my life that I've been under par for 9, 1 under on the front (bogied 2, birdied 6 and 9). Slumped to a 40 on the (much harder) back 9, with 3 three putts, but birdied the last for 75, my best score in several years. Reminds me of a time I got in a quick 9 after hitting balls at the range about 25 years ago when I was about a 12. I birdied the first 4 holes, chipping in my 4th shot on a par 5 after toping a 3 wood and missing the green. I hit a 7 iron to about 1 foot on #5. My hands were shaking so bad I had to stop my putting stroke twice and finally managed to knock it in to go 5 under through 5 holes. I was just sooooo far out of my comfort zone and on the next tee almost whiffed my driver on a par 5 hitting it off the toe and dribbling it about 25 yards into a creek that is not in play. Popular Post Grand Stranded
So today we played the final round of my Members League Championship. I've talked about how it works, the top 50 money winners play two rounds after which the top 10 gross and net score players advance to the finals where we reset and crown a Gross and a Net Champion. I made it to day's finals which I'm proud of. I also played pretty well today shooting an 84, but two poor swings really hurt me. One was a drive that was only about 10 yards off the fairway but ended up against the front(%#*????!!!) of a tree which forced me to take an unplayable because naturally it settled into a hollowed out portion of the base. The second was a horribly pulled 6 iron on a par 3 which I tried to hit out of tall palm grass. Whiffed the first time barely advanced it on the next. Hit a great pitch from the rough to 3 feet but missed the putt for 6. That gave me a 44 on the front. Played well on the back, came in with a 40, but it wasn't enough to make up for those early mishaps. It was a fun event, and I ended up 4th in Net, 3 strokes behind the winner. Here's the thing though. I'm a 13 cap, which I feel puts me in "no mans land." I'm not good enough to beat the low caps in Gross, and today was the perfect example of what happens to me in non flighted Net events. l shot a net 72, which I think is pretty good under the new system, but got beat by 3 20+ caps who shot mid and high 60's net scores. It's frustrating finishing 10-15 strokes ahead on the card and losing. Oh well. Enough whining, because now that this tournament is finished I FINALLY get to put my new PXG 0211 irons and Glide 3.0 wedges into my bag... I've been drooling over them for 3 weeks now, and it's finally time to get them dirty!!!! Man I'm slow sometimes. Tonight may have been the last league night based on extended forecast. I played ok (+8 with a 7 league handicap), but chipping let me down, which was predictable after the way I chipped Sunday. I learned a valuable lesson tonight. Apparently some of my issues off the tee are related to alignment - I was lined up way right of where I thought I was. After my friend pointed it out to me, I felt like I was aiming miles left, but started the ball on the left side and faded into the middle on the last three driving holes. Time to get to the range with some alignment sticks. In other news, I won a skin for the 4th straight week with a birdie on a shortish par 5. Driver, 3w to just next to a greenside bunker, crappy chip and made the 25 footer. I have no idea what's up with winning 4 weeks in a row since I've never won a skin that I can recall, but I'll take it. CarlH
Struggled getting off the tee box all day but putted lights out. Actually, on the front side, had 3 doubles (#1 had wedge issues, #3 had tree issues that went OB, #7 hit another tree on 2nd shot when I tried to just miss the tree and catch the left side of the green and then didn't have a shot to the green for the 3rd shot) to shoot 6 over, then on the back shot 1 over. They were doing maintenance on #2 today, so we skipped it. It's a handicap hole for me, so I added a bogey to my score to post an 80 for the day. Popular Post Tom the Golf Nut
Had my charity tournment today in Kansas City. I think we could have done better if they didn't make us play from the blue tees. Greens were hard as a rock and fast. Teed off before it was even light enough to see the ball. Cold and damp. Burrrrr, had 4 layers on. This TN boy isn't used to playing in the high 30's low 40's. Still played decent enough. Wound up with a 64 but left about 5 shots on the table top. Must have had 5 putts that either lipped out or roller over the edge. But it was for charity, so all is good. Supposed to be 81 degrees on Thursday. Only you could win four skins... cksurfdude, Kenny B, MaxEntropy and 1 other 2 2 Quote In the bag: Driver: TSR2 Project X HZRDUS Black 5.5 Fairway: Apex UW 19° & 21° Project X HZRDUS Smoke RDX Black 5.5 Irons: JPX 923 HMP 5-PW UST Mamiya Recoil 95 F4 Wedges: T-22 Denim Copper 48°, 52° & 56° UST Mamiya Recoil 95 F4 Putter Sycamore 005 Wide Blade Bag: Alpha Convoy 514 Balls: Chrome Soft X Cart: CaddyLite ONE Ver. 8 God Bless America, God save the King, God defend New Zealand and thank Christ for Australia! Rickp
Wednesday morning group which is more serious of the groups I play in.Light mist, cloudy, north breeze and most holes wet with cart path only how could this go wrong!Shot 44 with never a sniff of a birdie. Driver was horrible, low screamers, irons not horrible and putting, did I mention greens were light sand cover, just swell.Hybrid was working but if I was actually hitting a Tee shot I would not have needed a hybrid.Enough whining 7:38 tee time Friday and do it again.Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpy CarlH, MattF, cksurfdude and 2 others 5 Quote Rick Left Hand, Driver; PXG 0311XF Cypher 50 gr Senior 5 wood; Ping 425, Senior Shaft 55 gr 7 wood; Ping 425, Senior Shaft 55 gr 5 hybrid; Cally Steelhead, Hazardous R2 Irons; Mizuno JPX 923HM 7-GW Recoil 460 F2 Wedges; Titleist S9 54*, Mizuno SW 56* Putter; Waaay too many to list
CarlH
Played 18 holes without a double bogey!!!!! It's been a long time since I've done that, despite scoring decently. Anyway, shot a 77 today. Only one birdie, but my partner and I won the game (We have a standard $5 game on Wednesday with our 4some, changing partners each week). cnosil, chisag, cksurfdude and 3 others 5 1 Quote Driver: Rogue ST Max (10.5* set at -1 and neutral) -- Mitsubishi Tensai Blue 55g R shaft Fairway: Rogue ST Max 3 wood (16.5*) and Heaven Wood (20*)-- Tensai Blue 55g R shaft Hybrids: Rogue ST Max 5H (23*)--Tensai Blue 55g R shaft Irons: Apex CF19 6-9, PW, AW -- KBS Tour Graphite TGI 70 shafts R +1/2 inch 3* upright Wedges: Edison 53* and 57* KBS PGI 80 Graphite +1/2 inch 2* upright Putter: L.A.B. edingc
- 42/41 = 83 / 80 ESC (+18, Par 65) - 4/11 FIR - 2/18 GIR - 28 Putts (10 2-putts, 8 1-putts) New-to-me course, local muni that @ncwoz has trekked around a few times, I think. I was very surprised at the quality of course given the price ($16 to walk) and the length (~4,700 yards from the back tees). I just can't get out of my own way lately, it seems. Came to No. 9 +3 and playing well. Long 234-yard par 3 into a 14 MPH wind, hit a low screaming driver that landed in the greenside bunker. Proceeded to take three shots getting out of said bunker to 35 yards past the green, hit back over the green into the bunker again, blasted out and two-putted for a nine. Yuck. Tried to put that hole behind me but just couldn't get it going on the back. Struggled with a case of the hooks with the longer clubs, driver was garbage on the two holes I used it, and I just struggled finding the right distance on my approach shots. Also shanked a 7-iron out of bounds from the tee on the first par 3 on the back. Still don't know what happened there! On the bright side, I putted extremely well. No birdies, but no three-putts and I really wasn't close having one. cksurfdude, sirchunksalot, ncwoz and 4 others 7 Quote Unofficial WHS Handicap: 7.5 / Anti-Cap: 13.0 (Last Updated Feb. 19, 2024) Driver: Callaway Paradym TD (10.5°, -1/N), 45.75", Fujikura Motore X F1 6X | Fitting Post 3 Wood: Cobra RadSpeed Big Tour (14.5°), 43", Fujikura Motore X F1 7X 20° Hybrid: PXG 0211 (2020 Model), 40.25", Mitsubishi Tensei AV RAW White 90X 4 Utility: Cobra KING Utility (2020 Model), 38.5", Aerotech SteelFiber i110cw Stiff 5-PW: Ben Hogan PTx Pro, 37" 7 Iron, Aerotech SteelFiber i125cw Stiff | Club Champion Fitting 50°, 54°, 58°: Edel SMS, V Grind, Nippon Modus 125 Wedge| Official Review Thread Putter: L.A.B.
