cksurfdude
Golf is a funny game... in a lotta ways but in my case (for this week, anyway ) there's an improvement in one area of your game yet at the same time other aspects of your game seem to backslide... ..and I know you golfers on here know what I'm talking about!! People who've read thru or commented on my posts in this thread (thk u!!) know I've been struggling with .. and working on .. my long game / ball striking; been having trouble with tee shots and second shots. Short game and putting has really improved this year, and while I still have a loooong ways to go to mount a challenge to a club pro, I've been getting better at what I call "almost" up & downs ... ie. down in three from near to and around the green. So.. played 18 at the beginning of this week (and then the next morning wrenched my lower back and had to pass on a meet-up/round with @Chip Strokes .. new date TBA!) and strangely enough had 12 / 14 "playable" (emphasized) tee shots = they were not all good shots, and not all in the fairway, but were in generally the right direction and near the fairway / not in trouble where I could make a second shot (and not a punch-out, which is another skill that's improved this year!). The two other tee shots - one was good contact but pulled way left to the OB fence and then lost; other one I totally chunked/skyed/popped-up to nowhere (on a long Par5...). Didn't keep an exact count of second shots but about 2/3s were also "playable", eg. not all "good" golf shots but at least advanced the ball towards the hole into a decent enough position. Now.. otoh, my "BAS" Bunker Avoidance Strategy which has been working pretty well this year fell apart as I put myself into bunkers three times and proceeded to double-chunk my way out of two of those. On top of that I 2-chipped twice and 3-putted twice during each 9 as my speed control continues to elude me (well.. more than usual...). On two holes (a Par 5 and the closing Par 4) I decided to combine those short game talents together to yield me an additional +5 shots on each to finish for two Triples - and each of these were after consecutive good (full swing) shots that put me in front of or next to the green! Ugh. (..and we're not gonna talk about the major blow-up hole nor the Par 3s here today) Anyway.. I did manage 11 bogeys (nothing better this round) and while not my best performance this season was actually encouraging as now I know the clear path for me, for making more on-course improvement, is really ... wait for it .. waaayiiit .. earth-shattering revelation coming ... limiting my mistakes! DiscipleofPenick
In what could be the last round of the year, I got around ok considering the conditions. We've had two days of rain + leaves + fog on the first 5 holes. I lost 4 balls on those first holes due to who knows what, then one more over the rest of the round. No birdies, 1 double for a 42-39 81. I just tried to enjoy the day and not being at work. The course I played, Seneca, was taken over by the Cleveland Metroparks from the city about 6 years ago. They been renovating the course and this year announced they were complete. First time playing since the transition and the course is so much nicer than it was. I will be back, and it's central for MGS meetups!Take Dead Aim MattF, cnosil, CarlH and 5 others 8 Quote Take Dead Aim Driver: PXG 0211 10.5* Fairway: Titleist 917 F3 15* Hybrid: Adams Idea Pro Boxer Gold 18* Irons: MacGregor MT-86 Pro Wedges: Vokey 50/54/58 Putter: SeeMore X2 Costa del Mar Ball: Srixon Z-Star
yungkory
+3 (39) 4/7 FiR 5/9 GiR 17 putts Felt good to get out after skipping last week for wedding prep. I'm really liking the TP5 due to it spinning a little less than the BXS. Don't ever have to worry about ripping it back or getting hung up in the wind, and the soft feel is exactly what I look for in a cover. Hit a decent amount of greens which was nice, but couldn't make a putt - everything was kinda soggy from the rain these past 3 days. Can't wait to get the zipcores on the course, my wedge distance control is coming back nicely. How did the new clubs do for you? The Cobra driver performed very well again, of course it is mandatory for me to hit a couple bad shots, but that was me, not the club. The new Honma also performed well, I only regret trying to use from the deep rough, but the first shot of the tee on 2, went 226 yards, it sounded awesome, I should have used more off the tee. But the best club today was the putter, I got sloppy on a few holes and those will count against it, but I felt that the ball rolled really well and I was striking down my intended line, as well as I did not feel nervous over any thing that was a 3 foot or less. Popular Post chisag
... Played what might be my final round in Chicago yesterday and there was good news and bad news. Good news is the temps hit 76* so it was very pleasant and enjoyable. The bad news is we had between 2-4" of rain over night and the course was saturated. CPO. My remote cart was making a rooster tail the entire round. Tee shots plugged where they landed, many times with an accompanying splash. Normally playing 6497 from the Blue tees I decided to move up a tee box and play the course from the 6054 White tees. Kinda crazy but I still had longer second shots on several holes. But quite literally every single drive in the fairway plugged. ... I just have not been able to shoot under par for a month or so with 5 rounds right on 72. Last 3 times I had "makable" birdie puts on 18 from around 6-7 feet but pin placements have been brutal and again I had a slight downhill putt that broke hard left to right and an aggressive birdie attempt would leave me an equal length come back putt. WTF might as well give it a go with temps in the 40's for the next 10 days and just missed on the low side leaving a 6 footer straight back up the hit I made for another 72. 2 birdies and 2 bogies but I did save 2 holes. Hit a big pull into some trees off the tee on a par 5 that aren't really in play, took a drop and still had to play over trees leaving me 110 to the pin. Hit a nice pw out of the rough but the wind pulled it 20 feet to the right of the hole. Made the putt to save par. Whew. This is a links style course so only 1 tree really comes into play and it blocks about 60% off the fairway with water left and OB right. Several options but since I was playing the White tees I decided to just go over this towering Oak, but I just caught the very top and it bounced back toward the tee. Had to punch a 5 iron under the limbs leaving me 130 and hit a knockdown 8 iron to about 10 feet and again made the putt to save par. Double whew. ... Rest of the round was pretty boring with 12 routine pars hitting fairways and greens but not having any real makable birdies. I enjoy boring golf as long as it is for par but everyone loves a shot at birdie don't they? So I left the course feeling good and bad at the same time, which should be the definition of golf "Golf: hitting a ball between 65-100 times, making it fall into 18 separate small holes and leaving you with both a good and bad feeling after counting your strokes at the end of the round. The course was great, my game, not so much, shot 102, still it was a great time. Hey @tony@CIC I had two lefties with me this morning. Both Chris and Patrick are lefties, we had a blast. Some of the greens had a lot leafs on them, but still rolling really well. That's a great looking course, your photos are spot on as usual. Rickp
... Once, which was once too many. That’s funny. I asked because I had played there a few times when there was a Trade Show at Pheasant Run Resort if you can call it that. Some Chicago area guys ran it. Was more of a hit, giggle and guzzle event.Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpy Quote Rick Left Hand, Driver; PXG 0311XF Cypher 50 gr Senior 5 wood; Ping 425, Senior Shaft 55 gr 7 wood; Ping 425, Senior Shaft 55 gr 5 hybrid; Cally Steelhead, Hazardous R2 Irons; Mizuno JPX 923HM 7-GW Recoil 460 F2 Wedges; Titleist S9 54*, Mizuno SW 56* Putter; Waaay too many to list

Sluggo42
playing well still, but was thinking about Birdies. What good is a birdie really? Other than erasing a bad hole, or bringing a marginal game back into focus, bringing your attention back to the day, bringing a great feeling to you, reenforcing the swing thought that just hit that shot, or putt, that you've been working on, etc... A birdie is virtually the goal for every hole. Popular Post Golfspy_CG2
Played in a scramble yesterday. Only do a couple of these a year, but this supports our client and its always at the “end” of the season and it’s a nice event. We shot 60 and tied for 2nd. 1st was 59...uggh! We totally blew two birdies from inside 8 feet. And this was with two scratch golfers, a 7 and....myself just to make it fair, or they may have shot 54 Actually I played pretty well, made several putts as our leadoff guy Even used my drive a few times, as i got to hit from the gold tees..which on some holes was a 40-60 yard advantage. it’s always enjoyable to play with guys at the level, one played in college and one could have if he hadn’t played football instead. Everyone talks about the distance off the tee and that is true. But to watch their games 130 yards snd in, was really fun, especially onside 90 to 100. Great day! Popular Post Golfspy_CG2
I forgot to add, one of the reasons the scores weren’t ridiculously low like you see in some scrambles. There was none of the gimmick stuff, like throws, string or pay to hit from the lady tees on par 5’s. I see so many of the outing I run each year, with winning scores or 50 or 51 and that just isn’t fun to me. Its just gimmicky at that point. It was a Captains choice where we picked the best tee shot (par 3s included, and use at least three from each player). Once you chose the tee shot everyone played their own bll from there and you count the best net score on each hole. We shot 57 on the Love Course at Barefoot which isn't an easy course. Came in 4th 5 strokes behind the winners.
