Kenny B
We are trying for 11am tomorrow. There's been snow on the ground since Christmas, but we had rain today; cold rain, but still rain and it supposed to be in the 40's with some sun. As long as the ground is not frozen, any water will drain quickly. I haven't played for over a week. So different than the Midwest or Orlando. 315 yd drive today with a nice breeze at my back, a slope about 250 off the tee and fast fairways. I can't even sniff 300 back in Chicago. Played the back 9 first and finished 1 over then pulled a tee shot on 1 (my 10th) into the adjacent fairway leaving me 185 to the flag in the middle of the green. I hit my Cobra MIM Tour 7 iron that I carry around 165 and found my ball just over the green, so a 195 yd 7 iron?!? Pa-lease LOL. I know it landed short of the green but with the 7 mph wind and hard fast conditions it ended up just over. Played the front in 1 under and shot even par for the first time in Phoenix this year. At 67 it is nice to play a course with 3 holes at 430 or longer that can be reached with mid or even short irons. Back in Midwest with the soft conditions those holes are long irons or even hybrid/woods! ... 65-70* and sunny in late December is as good as it gets. I think I am gonna like it here, until June - August of course. That does sound fun. Courses around here has minimal roll. Whenever I hear of yeah you should be getting another 20 in roll out I just chuckle, yeah that's not happening. How are the MIM Tours working out they look great and am very intrigued with the slightly larger head size, sounds like something I would like to move too once I move on from the I500s maybe ... though I noticed Ping has something new coming out. sirchunksalot 1 Quote Epic Max LS 9° Ventus Blue 6X (2021 Official Review) | Epic Speed 18° Evenflow Riptide 70g 6.0 816 H1 21° Diamana S+ Blue 70 S | SMS 4-5/SMS Pro 6-PW Steelfiber i95 S (2023 Official Review) Glide 4.0 50°.12°S/54°.14°W/58°.6°T PING Z-Z115 Wedge Flex | SOFT 11S Super Stroke Mid-Slim 2.0 Hoofer Bag | Pro V1 | Right Handed | Tracked by V3
Middler
Good round yesterday even though the temp ranged from 38F to 42F. 40-39-79 with no birdies and a string of 8 consecutive pars. Yea, it is a ton of fun. Here is a perfect example at the course I have been playing. 7 driving holes have a downhill slot or the whole fairway is downhill starting at about 250 from the tees. My favorite is a long 430 yd par 4 and if you hug the left side you can slide down the light dormant rough that produces even more roll than the fairway and this is the hole I hit it 315. Hit it to around 230-240ish and you don't make the slope. 9 & 18 are both long uphill holes but have downslopes around 280 so only the longest hitters can take advantage of the roll and it evens out the downhill holes. Approach shots can land short and roil on which can be good or bad but a completely different way to play than on a non desert course. I have never had so many putts from beyond the hole or even off the back as I do here in the desert. ... Still figuring out the MIM Tour irons but playing them every day. I will say that so far I am pretty impressed once I got past the claim that they are softer than a forged iron. Didn't warm up so I made bogeys on hole 1 and 2. Then parred everything except for a birdie on hole #8. Had two other birdie putts lip out. CarlH
Closed out the year with a bad day of chipping, leading to 3 doubles. Not sure why, but I really had issues with my chipping/pitching (course wet, so that'll be my excuse). Other than those 3 bad holes, I played okay and came in with an 81. Kenny B
My wife and I walked the front nine today with my usual Monday walking group buddies; rained Monday and today was just cloudy and no wind for a change. I had 7 pars and 2 bogeys for a +2 round of 39. Anytime I break 40 on our front nine, I feel pretty good about it. Driver was generally good, but not the usual roll because of wet fairways. Popular Post sirchunksalot
Hello 2021! I played my first round of the New Year today and it was one that'll hopefully extinguish the dumpster fire that was last year's season. Shot a 48 hitting 5 fairways and 3 greens in regulation with 19 putts. Started our normal, pulled a drive into the second fairway leaving a shot where I had to navigate trees in front of me. Hit a good 6 iron pin high and slightly bladed a wedge to the other side of the green then three putted for a double. Second hole is a par 3 that I hit another 6 iron and landed past the hole but was able to two putt for par. Where I really struggled was on the two par 5's. I carded an 8 on the first and a 9 on the second. I'm finding 50-100 yard shots are killing me as I hit one from 75 yards into my favorite pond on the course. Fell in there once, in February, it was cold. I guess it just has it out for me. My iron play was the best it's been in a long time. Practice with the Spornia net is definitely starting to pay off. The drills I've been doing to work on weight shift and relaxing over the ball are starting to show results. I'm usually pretty tense over the ball and I take too much time to pull the trigger. Today was about trusting the line, relaxing, and hitting the ball. The only negative as far as hitting greens today was I left myself a few of these putts. Completely misread this one as breaking right to left, I was surprised to see it break the other way as it rolled toward the hole. My shot of the day was on 9, hit a good drive in the fairway leaving myself 100 yards to the pin. Hit wedge and came up short of the green. I then chipped it up and thought it was in. Missed it by that much. Easy tap in for par. GolfSpy_SHARK, cnosil, fozcycle and 7 others

Kenny B
It was a decent day but I had errands to run, but my wife played in the Ladies League. She had been struggling... mostly around the green; it's not in peak shape and I think she hasn't fully adjusted to winter golf, that is until today. She birdied the 1st hole and only had one DB for the round. She shot 44/41 for a nice 85; one of her lowest rounds in league play. tony@CIC
Wife and I played yesterday at our new course - Cypress Creek in Ruskin. I've played here a couple of times already and had a pretty decent game. Yesterday not so much. I had a complete meltdown at the fifth hole and went downhill from there. Ended up with a 50 on the front. The back was getting worse so just stopped counting. Taking a couple of days off to get my head together. Supposed to play Friday, but forecasts is calling for 70% chance of rain, so...... So, did you play today? I saw our weather didn't look too good for Friday so my wife and I played today. It was one of THE most disgusting rounds I've played in awhile. It took me 6 holes to hit a straight ball off the tee, and then the ball didn't travel very far... in the air or on the ground. I couldn't hit a ball off the fairway. The rain last night made many fairways soggy. I only made 6 pars, no birdies, but I managed to get around the course without a DB or worse, so an 84. If it weren't for my putter, I don't think I would have broken 90. I made 9 putts that were over 6 feet to save par or bogey. I really, really didn't want to make a double, now that I'm tracking DB+ along with birdies this year. sirchunksalot, MattF and cnosil 3 Quote “We don’t stop playing the game because we get old; we get old because we stop playing the game.”

It's not a real test of your scoring prowess anyway, so why stress over it? Now if you head somewhere tropical, where the conditions are pristine, sharpen the pencil...
