Popular Post NRJyzr
Played today in an event for my course's Men's Club. It was a two man best ball, partners drawn at random. Had an interesting day. Made two birdies on the front nine. Followed those with three doubles in the next five holes. Developed a clue after, missed a couple chances, made a birdie on the lone par 5 on the back, limped in with a couple bogeys in last three holes for a 77. Three birds, three doubles. Smooth and consistent! The nice extra... these events have skins pots as an option, both gross and net. Decide to get in both. Turns out, I had the only birdie on that back side par 5. Its the #4 handicap hole, so I got a stroke. And no one with a 22+ hdcp got a par on it. One sixth the gross skins pot, one quarter of the net skins pot. Not a bad day. cksurfdude, sirchunksalot, Kenny B and 10 others 13 Quote Driver: TM Original One 11.5* set to 11*, Aldila NV75 X, 43.5" -or- SpeedZone, HZRDUS Black 75 6.5, 43.5" 3w: Cobra King LTD, RIP Beta 90, 42" -or- Stage 2 Tour, NV105 X, 42.5" 2h or 3h: TaylorMade Stage 2 Tour, Aldila NV105 S -or- RIP Alpha 105 S Irons: 3-PW Mizuno MP37, Recoil Proto 125 F4 (reshaft in progress, slowly); 1i & 3-PW Golden Ram TW276, NV105 S; 2-PW Golden Ram TW282, RIP Tour 115 R GW: Dynacraft Dual Milled CNC 52*, Steelfiber 125 S; Scratch 8620 DS 53*, Steelfiber 125 S SW: Ram TG-898 56*, DGX ss2x; Ram Tom Watson 55*, DGX ss2x; Wilson Staff PMP 58*, DGS; PM Grind 19 58*, stock shaft Putter: Snake Eyes Viper Tour Sv1, 34"; Ping Scottsdale TR Craz-E, 35"; Cleveland Huntington Beach 1, 35" Ball: Wilson Staff Duo Professional, Bridgestone Tour B-RXS, Callaway Chrome Soft
Kenny B
33 minutes ago, CarlH said: A horrendous day!! Well, the back 9 was. Shot a 38 on the front with a double bogey, ripped a drive on #10 down the middle and then disaster!!! Pulled my 6 iron to the left, leaving a tree blocking most of the green, so I went to punch out to the high side of the green, but hit the tree anyway. It bounced backwards, and my next shot went long over the green. Got down with a triple bogey 7. And that's not the worst that happened!!! Another double on @12 and another on 14 and again on 15 (15 was at least a lost ball...the other two were just bizarre ball striking). But on a reachable par 5 #16, it was even more hilarious! Nice drive to the middle of green with 175 yards to the pin and I almost miss the ball. It travels about 50 yards to the left, sort of behind a tree, but open to the green . Knock the next shot into the pond, take a drop and the next ball hits the bank and bounces into the pond again. Drop another ball and hit it long and then proceed to 4 putt the green! Wrote down an 11! (We had a medal game going on). You guessed it -- another double on 17! All of this is due to just insanely bad iron and wedge play. Well, remember that 38 on the front? How about a 56 on the back!!!! Adjusted 6 strokes and posted an 88 for my handicap score. OH EM GEE!!!! Glad none of you guys know me ... I'm really embarrassed by that back nine! If it wasn't so funny, I'd cry! Been there... done that!!! Go get' em tomorrow Tiger!! Oops! Wrong Spy!! Not a fun experience especially since it was on my left hand - being a lefty wearing right handed gloves. Still ended up carding a 93. Popular Post ejgaudette
First one off this morning and played in a tidy 2.5 hours walking. Went 39/40 for a 79 on my usual course. Started off really well with only a dumb club selection on the second hole resulting in my lone bogey in the first right holes. Then doubled the ninth and had to hold on to close under 80. Driver started off nice on the first nine but got erratic on the second. Also this course has about 5 tee shots where driver is not an option and really have to use a hybrid and I hit one of them good. The rest not so much, though funny the two par threes on the front were long with pins in the back shelf of both and hit perfect hybrids and pared both. Overall a good round. Played my shot patterns and distances right which led to way more greens then I normally hit, just no scrambling (admittedly my weakest skill). Just need to keep the focus and in the moment thinking I had on the first 8 holes or so. Finally, distance control was excellent on lag buts with the Cleveland HB SOFT 11s, might be something too that face tech. sirchunksalot, MattF, MaxEntropy and 7 others 10 Quote Epic Max LS 9° Ventus Blue 6X (2021 Official Review) | Epic Speed 18° Evenflow Riptide 70g 6.0 816 H1 21° Diamana S+ Blue 70 S | SMS 4-5/SMS Pro 6-PW Steelfiber i95 S (2023 Official Review) Glide 4.0 50°.12°S/54°.14°W/58°.6°T PING Z-Z115 Wedge Flex | SOFT 11S Super Stroke Mid-Slim 2.0 Hoofer Bag | Pro V1 | Right Handed | Tracked by V3
Popular Post Tom the Golf Nut
I was the first one off this morning. Struggled keeping my drive in play for the first time in a long time. But not bad just off the fairways. Second shots were just ok. Some hit some misses on the approach shots to the green, which put a lot of pressure on the short game. Luckily it was spot on. Any shots from 100 yards and in I put less than 10 feet from the pin and made all the putts. Still pulled off a very respectable 71 even though it felt much worse. Two birdies off-set the two bogies. Got done just before the wind picked up. tony@CIC, Curtis Atkinson, MattF and 12 others 15 Quote Driver, TSi 1 S Flex 3 wood, Aerojet Max UST Helium Nanocore R Flex 5 wood, Aerojet Max UST Helium Nanocore R Flex 7 Wood, Aerojet Max UST Helium Nanocore R Flex 5 Hybrid King Tec MMT R Flex Irons, Tour UST Recoil 95 R Flex (6 - Gap) Wedges, Snakebite KBS Hi- Rev2.0 54* & 60* Agera 35" Ultralight 14-way Cart Bag
Popular Post ncwoz
Got out early enough Friday to sneak in 18 before it got dark. New to me course, and starting off it was probably 15-20mph winds with gusts even higher. It was also the first round I was really trying to get Arccos working, and I was having all sorts of problems the first 9. Had me a little flustered the first few holes, so after 3 I decided to just scrap it and play. By the time I started the back I tried again and it worked much better. The wind also died down, which was nice. My putting was great and short game felt pretty solid, but I was really shaky off the tee. A few spots was just being unfamiliar with the course, but I put myself in a lot of tough spots for good approaches. Did feel like I settled in to the back 9 well, and even with 2 easily avoidable doubles I scored pretty well. 41:41; 82 (+10, net +1) FIR: 1/13 GIR: 3/18 Putts: 28 Really happy with the round, it was a good mix of really solid shots and some spots I know I can still improve. I did end up getting Arccos to cooperate on the back 9, and manually filled in the front 9. I was curious to see Arccos' analysis about my round relative to what I felt. My handicap breakdown was: Driving - 11, Approach - 18, Short Game - 15, Putting - +5. I'm surprised my driving number wasn't worse than approach, but not sure if maybe that's just where I ended up with some of my shots. I had a good chunk of drives that weren't hugely offline, but I was blocked from the green by trees. Anyways, happy with the round and excited for some more Arccos analysis of my game! Hoping it can work a little smoother going forward as well. Popular Post sirchunksalot
I got out today for nine holes with my favorite caddy driving the golf cart. It was fun, well, except for the golf game that decided to rear its ugly head. Shot a very disappointing 57 on a day my driver was on along with my short game. Only had 18 putts and one terrible drive. I only hit 3 fairways, but my misses were no more than 8 feet into the rough. From 40 and in, my wedges were on and I two putted everything. My approach game was horrendous, tops and shanks galore. I couldn't hit a fairway wood or iron for love nor money. I hit one pure 5 iron and that was it, even that was into howling wind and came up short. I'm thankful my wife was with me keeping me relaxed, otherwise I might have walked off the course, came home, put the clubs in the deepest recesses of the closet, and quit playing. She discussed what was good with my game and how she sees improvement, especially in the short game. I'm dealing with a mental block on the course. On the range and into the net, I look like I know what I'm doing, but put me in the course and it's all manner of disaster. I'm stuck in the mode of playing golf swing and not golf. I probably won't be able to play the next two weeks, I'm working the next two Saturdays. Hopefully I can get out and practice and get to a better place with my game. fixyurdivot, Kenny B, CarlH and 13 others

The range is wider than fairways; no consequences for bad shots. When on the course, your eyes see a much narrower target, so most likely trying to guide the ball. Narrow your target on the range for an acceptable tee shot, and when on the course trust your swing. Stop thinking... let things happen... and Be the ball! Kenny B
Yesterday, I came back to earth with a more "normal" round of 81. Two doubles on the front nine and a 44 was not a good start, but shot 37 on the back nine. It was a nice, sunny day, but after a 90 minutes frost delay, my warmup on the range was long gone and it felt like I just got out of the car and headed to the tee. I started warming up by #8, and my short game was working a little better. Putting is still difficult with the hole punches affecting speed and line. The 19th Hole
Went out and played Poppy Ridge Golf Course in Livermore, CA this weekend. I was excited to use my new Driver for a 2nd time on the course. So of course I hooked my first drive out of bounds on the first hole. Great start...From there on it worked great though. Unfortunately, I am a bit out of practice with my putter so I 3 putted a few holes that I had pretty good looks at birdie (all within 20 ft) and missed several other birdie attempts that would have really helped my round. Managed to stay focused enough to shoot a 77. Playing again in 2 weeks and hope to improve on that putting performance though. Love that course, next time in Cali I will have to make a stop there. cksurfdude and The 19th Hole 2 Quote Driver: TaylorMade Qi10 MAX - 8.5 with Fujikura Speeder NX TCS 50 (secondary shaft HRDZ Black 6.0 Stiff) 3 -Wood: Sub70 949x 3 Wood 15 with Hrdz RDX Black Stiff 5-Wood: Sub70 949x 5 Wood with Hrdz RDX Black stiff 4-Hybrid: Sub70 949x 4 Hybrid with Project X 5.5 Hybrid Stiff Irons: Mizuno Pro 225 - 6-PW , w/Nippon Modus 105 Stiff Wedges: Sub70 TAIII w/Nippon Modus 105 Stiff - 50 ,56, 60 Putter: L.A.B Mezz1, 34 in Balls: MaxFli Tour X, TaylorMade Tour Response, TaylorMade TPx GPS: Shot Scope X5 with Tracking TESTED: SUB70 949X 5 Wood TESTED: NIPPO N.S. Its a pretty good course when the conditions are right. The fairways and rough were a bit spotty and the greens had not fully recovered from being punched a couple of weeks ago so they were much slower and more bumpy than normal. But it was still nice to be outside. If I had to choose (and price was less of a concern) I would rather hop down the road and play "The Course at Wente Vineyards". The greens are typically in better shape and it is a bit more challenging of a layout (to me). You know, I was thinking about what you said here while at work today and I started going back over my round. Driver was good, I just picked a spot and swung, had one go o.b. on the first hole but everything else was no more than 8 feet into the rough. I even hit the fairway on nine into a left to right cross wind by playing or over the cart path and letting it drift back in. Greenside, I just walked up, pictured what I wanted to do, took a couple of practice swings and trusted myself. I had some pretty good results. Anything with an iron or fairway wood over 50 yards, I was a basket case and I realized I just need to trust the process. There's proof good things happen that way. Thank you for the advice, it was really appreciated. cksurfdude, golfish!, Kenny B and 6 others
