cksurfdude
Played 9 earlier this week, and my instructor is going to be gifted (again) with a few select IPAs! It's taken me several months and many lessons but the progress is really starting to show out on the course From 140 and in I pretty much hit each shot pretty close to what I was hoping to achieve. Now, no absolutely not, I don't "expect" to do that every round (but at least now I know I can once in a while). Chipping was also pretty good, and putting was pretty close but not quite but I'm happy enough with my distance control. Tee shots, though.... First three were good but then .. but then .. just lost it... The old slice came back and I couldn't shake it, couldn't figure it out or fix it the rest of the round. So had a bunch of punch-out/recovery shots. One of which was fun - after extremely slicing a tee shot into the next fairway, I found myself blocked by the row of tall trees between. Sure, I could try to punch out sideways back to the proper fairway, but .. where's the fun in that? Besides, I'm trying to learn what kind of shots I should .. and should not! .. attempt on the course so I grab the 7i, lean back a touch and give it a whack .. .. and watch it start online, just clear the tree top and come down about 20-25 yards in front of the green. Yeah! Just missed making the up and down but happy to walk away with a semi-miraculous bogey. Playing 9 this weekend so we'll see if we can keep _all_ parts of the game on the positive side of the ledger! downlowkey, Micah T, Grand Stranded and 6 others 9 Quote WITB of an "aspiring" play-ah ... CarlH
Despite yesterday's "better" play, today was a total disaster! Everything I did was wrong. No idea what happened other than I got in my own way. Played a 2 man best ball with our senior group today. Both my partner and I played stinky! On a brighter note, an 18 handicap player showed up wearing plus fours and knee socks, a sweater vest with a Scottish logo and matching hat with same logo metallic medallion on it. Said it was his clan symbol (McAlister, although his name was Miller). I think he watched too much tv as I observed his pre-swing routine. He'd stand behind the ball, take two half swings perpendicular to his line, hold the club up vertical to find his target, then look down at the ball as he walked away from that target and settled into his setup without fanfare (or consistency) and take a mighty swing. His putting routine was equally entertaining, with his glove removed and tucked in his rear pocket with all 4 fingers pointing downward, as he squatted to read his line then proceed to putt 6 feet off line. Had it not been for his entertaining performance, I might have thrown my entire clubs and bag into the pond. Popular Post CarlH
39 minutes ago, Kenny B said: The quarters have to be paid on the next tee. We used to play Insta-cash on the par 3 holes. It went like this: The person closest to the hole became "the player" (must be on the green surface). If the player made par, everyone had to pay him $1. If he made birdie, everyone paid him $2. If he 3 made bogey or worse, he paid the other players $3 each. Payments were made on that green. Generally, the bills were wadded up and thrown at the recipient of the win. It became quite a strategy game at times. For instance, if the first player hit the green, but was a long way from the hole or there was a chance he would 3 putt, everyone else would avoid hitting the green to force the issue. Since we were all 15+ handicap players at the time, 3 jacks were not all that uncommon. Popular Post chisag
... Frustrating day on the course. Greens were running slower than normal today and I took forever to adjust. I had 3 birdie putts on the front 9 of 8 feet or less and left every one an inch or shorter with one sitting on the lip and my pards made me wait to see if it would drop but it did not. One is excusable and even 2 can be tolerated but leaving 3 putts within 1 inch and dead in the hole is just a silly mental error. I did it one more time on the back, although it would not have fallen as it was outside the cup and then I finally ran several a few feet passed the hole, which was much better than leaving them short. Ended up with 2 birdies and 3 bogies and wanted to immediately play another 18. Thankfully it was sunset and I will just have to wait til Sunday as I am taking Saturday off to give my body some much needed rest. Sometimes having a frustrating round can be great motivation. Popular Post edingc
- 42 (+6) - 2/7 FIR - 3/9 GIR - 16 Putts (1 3-putt, 5 2-putts, 3 1-putts) First full nine of the year at my home course. I was all over the place today, but made good club choices so that my bad shots didn't penalize me too much. L.A.B. was great. The 3-putt was on No. 9 after hitting my approach just a hair too far and having a monster of a putt. Bad way to end a round but my putting was solid. Short game was pretty good, too, but had a chip that I hit just a touch too far on No. 8 that cost me a stroke. Overall, I was one bad luck bounce, one blocked iron off the tee and about 5 yards from shooting a 40 or better. Good first "real" round of the year! Popular Post Jmikecpa
First round in two weeks since I stunk it up with cnosil Drove an hour each way to play Dogwood Trace and have to say for $40 it was not too bad. Really neat layout with some shorter par 4’s, long par 3s and a few reachable par 5’s. Conditions were not too bad and gave me a chance to hit the new driver on the course. Ended at 3 over 75 with some spotty tee balls on the front nine. Actually putted really well for a change and glad to have the Toulon back in the bag. CarlH
Tooling along with a decent round going despite doubling #13 again when I hit a nice drive on #18 leaving myself a 9 iron in. Hit it right at the flag and feeling good about the shot when it comes up short and catches the lip of the trap and rolling back into the green side trap. Now, I'm normally a decent sand player and feeling confident that I can get up and down for the par, bogey at the worst. Get up to the trap and the lie is decent, no worries. I catch too much sand and the ball doesn't clear the lip and rolls back in. WTF? OK. Set up and again I don't get out. Now I'm really pissed. Third attempt comes out well, but doesn't have much spin and I'm 10 feet above the hole, not much break but a bit downhill. I putt and it's rolling at a great speed center cut......veers a tad and I burn the edge. Walk away with a triple bogey on the closing hole to shoot an 81 ----- and my partner and I lose by one point! Popular Post GolfSpy_SHARK
In lieu of playing the first round of the year due to some thing called snow in New England yesterday swapped over to the sim this afternoon. played le golf national and holy water! Went 39/42. Front 9 felt great ball striking and could feel the planemate work kicking in. 2nd 9 could feel myself getting into bad habits. But very happy I could feel that difference. hopefully next round is outside! bens197, MattF, Rickp and 7 others 10 Quote Check out my reviews: G710 Irons Official Review I MC Shaft & V Series Putter Official Review 2022 Forged Tec's Official Review I Nitron Push Cart Official Review WITB: Weapons of grass destruction (link to WITB) Traverse is filled with all this shiny metal and tracked by RadSpeed 8* - MotoreX F1 6X SIM 3W - Project X HZRDUS Green U505 Driving Iron 17* - Project X HZRDUS Black SpeedZone 4H - Project X HZRDUS Black 2022 King Forged Tec's 4-PW - KBS $ Tape 130 48 (SM8), 52 & 60 (SM7) - Nippon Modus 125 S ER2VI PROV1X #19 Are you a veteran? Popular Post GolfSpy_BNG
Played very well today with the exception of the putter. 39/37 +4 76. Started horribly going bogey, par, bogey but settled down after that. Played the back 9 with 8 straight pars until and untimely bogie on the last hole. 7/14 fairways 10/18 greens 32 putts All but 1 fairway miss was in the first cut. My greens could have been higher had the wind not been inconsistent. More than once the wind either died when I hit or gusted mid flight. I hit my irons on a string which was very satisfying. My only birdie was a left breaking 40+ footer that was luck. I will say that the back 9 absolutely showed me that an under par 9 is more than attainable! bens197, GolfSpy_SHARK, MattF and 8 others 11 Quote What is in my Sun Mountain C-130 bag or Jones MyGolfSpy bag Driver: Dark speed LS 8* set to -1.5* with an Attas Daaas 4x shaft @ 45” Fairway: F85 3 wood with a XPhplexx Agera X @ 42.5” F85 5 wood with a UST Elements Chrome 7F5 @ 41.5" Driving Iron: Rapture 2-Iron Irons: SMS Pros 4-PW with Steelfiber I95s Wedges: SMS 50* T grind with Steelfiber i110s Glide 4.0 46* zz wedge shaft Glide 4.0 E grind 54* zz wedge shaft Putters: Mezz.1 34” 69* lie EV5.1 black 33.5” 69* lie
Popular Post fozcycle
Nothing to really brag about, Day 1 of the 2 Day Spring Blitz.....shot 45/45:90 leaving me at -5 for my points. Three Birdies turned into pars, the rest em were bogies and doubles. Could not keep a drive in the fairway.
