However, I can honestly say that I didn't pick up any long putts and most were tap in or slightly more. The chips sure did react funny however. Thought I hit some good ones only to watch them react totally different than expected. I did work on the rotation that I worked on with my swing coach with moderate success on most of my iron shots, but not so much with the driver. I continue to struggle with that one. More practice time needed to hone the lessons!!!!!! Golf is crazy. I’d been working with an instructor on my rotation also, before my back flared up. I finally got out today after almost 2 months and I had the exact opposite problem. I was killing my driver, but I felt lost with the irons... just couldn’t get comfortable with it, and I have no idea why. I’m planning on seeing him in a few days, hopefully I can get it sorted out. The way everything else was going today I should’ve broken 80 with even mediocre iron play, but I really never felt like I flushed one all day. Curtis Atkinson
Phew what a day. First time walking which was delightful. Managed to shoot an even 100 with 0 fairways hit and 0 GIR! ZERO! For both! I’m equal parts miserable with my play off the tee and proud of ability to scramble to keep it (semi) reasonable. By comparison I’ve had rounds a few weeks ago of 64% of fairways and 28% GIR. Confidence off the tee is absolutely non-existent right now. fozcycle
I went to play at my club this morning (Pebble Creek 7 AM)only to find that the Hillsborough County Sheriff had a fund raising tourney and they had the entire club. So I called our sister club, Plantation Palms and they had an opening if I walked. I had my pushcart in the truck so I drove to PP and walked the back 9 then got a cart for the front nine. Walking 5he back nine is like walking 18 at my club.I am playing with tennis elbow in my right arm so I have a small brace on my forearm. Popular Post sirchunksalot
Today was a day that'll go down in my personal golf history. The last few rounds have been some of the worst I've ever played and had me completely feeling lost over the ball, I finally had a good round. We are in a calm before the rising storm at work. After getting off at 2:45 today, I rushed home, grabbed my clubs, and drove with my wife to play a nine hole round at Chatata Valley. @Kenny B, I thought I'd get the steering wheel in this picture. I started out with 3 bogeys, one of which was brought on by a duck hooked, out of bounds tee shot on the par 5 third. I recovered well hitting the second longest drive I've ever recorded on Arccos. I ripped a three wood to the left of the green, coming so close to actually reaching the green in two swings of the club. Chipped up to six feet leaving myself a bogey putt. My iron game left a lot to be desired, but I was able to make up for it with the best short game I've had in a long time. I just missed chipping two in and made my shot of the day hitting a 28 yard chip shot while standing in tree branches that left me 20 feet from the pin. I ended the day shooting a 46, hitting 5/7 fairways, zero greens, and 15 putts. edingc, GolfSpy_SHARK, cksurfdude and 14 others 12

CarlH
Started off with a pretty strong front 9 (38 on sanded greens that could have been better with normal greens) then made the turn. Decent drive, then hit my 2nd shot OB right and walk away with a triple bogey. Hit a 9 iron fat on the next hole (par 3) then crap up on my wedge to the green -- double bogey. I tried to get my head back into the "this shot" mentality but just couldn't get it together. Carded an 85. Went to demo days afterwards to see what improvements I might find over my driver. Hit the Cobra RadSpeed XB with R Tensei Blue 60 shaft....10.5 head and adjusted it several times up to 12....Compared Trackman numbers of this combo with my existing Ping G400. Cobra rep said to keep hitting the Ping. Move over to Ping rep and hit the 425 with R flex shaft similar to the Alta that I have in my 400. His Trackman was down, but I didn't care much for the results I was seeing. Next stop was Callaway where I mated a 9 degree Epic Max (tweaked to 10 degree) head with a Hzrdus Smoke Mid 50g shaft. Trackman numbers looked good with less spin and longer total distance than my Ping, but not $505 better (Demo day discounted price). One last stop over at the XXIO rep and hit their driver. I really liked that driver. Loved the shot shape, the sound at impact, and the ease of hitting it --- but the numbers didn't make me say "this is the driver I need". Talked a bit with my swing coach and he seconded my feeling that the results didn't really warrant replacing the Ping. Although my spin numbers are higher than he'd like to see with my club, we both agreed that the Ping performed decently for me and any gains from a new driver wouldn't be that big to warrant it. Bottom line....think I'll stick with the Ping I have. Popular Post Peaksy68
Probably my best ball striking round ever. Unfortunately I couldn’t make a putt. 11/14 fairways, one of the misses bounced hard right from 2 yards from the left and ran off the right edge of the fairway, the other was 2 foot left on the inside of the dogleg, a perfect miss. 10 GIR, 33 putts, 6 over 77 after a double bogey start. Popular Post ncwoz
Played a new to me Arnold Palmer course near us - The Ravines - with my dad and brother for a belated birthday gift. I'm trying to come up with good excuses but I don't really have too many...shot 90 (+18, net +10). Tripled a par 5 on the front and put up a 10 on a par 5 on the back. Oof. And I typically score well on par 5's! Both holes I took driver and shouldn't have - hitting my 3 iron off the tee on each of those holes the absolute worst I could have done is +2, and most likely would play them even par. Looking back, I really did play well - except for a shanked LW on 2, a pulled drive then 3 shots to chip out on 4, poor contact on a LW on 5, a leaked GW on 11, a bladed SW on 13, a driver and 5 iron pushed OB on 14, and an unplayable drop I had to take after a 4 iron where a tree root shot the ball way more right than it would have with a clean lie. I guess a strong case can be made I just didn't play well at all In all seriousness, there were a few poor decisions that put me in really bad positions, and it took me a couple holes to trust my shot shape. Additionally, the course had a ton of partial/complete blind shots, which I typically find gives me trouble committing to my lines the first few times on a course. No one in our group scored well, but we all had a handful of really nice shots. More than enough to keep us coming back! Popular Post Grand Stranded
I got out to play again for the second time this week earlier today. The back feels great, so hopefully that issue is in the past. Knock wood. Biggest news was the improvement of my iron play as opposed to the other day. I mentioned in my last post I had started to see an instructor just before I stoppped playing because of my back, and in hindsight I should’ve seen him before I played again, instead of the day after. He saw the problem right away, and it was an easy fix. I simply wasn’t completing my turn enough to square the face at impact which led to me leaving it slightly open, and hitting my irons out toward the toe. Who knew this was a thing?... *shrug* It was a simple fix, and a very comfortable “feel”. It was almost like taking a baseball swing, but I’m delofting the face now at impact, and as a result, I’m getting more distance. Yay. All in all, it was a good day. 39 on the front and two over on the back when we stopped after 14 because of heavy rain. I’m a happy man... back playing again, doing better than I expected, plus I have total confidence that I’ve found a teacher who will help me get where I want to be with this game. Popular Post CarlH
Like yesterday, shot a 38 on the front 9. Unlike yesterday, I made par on #10 instead of the triple I had yesterday! Went on to shoot a 78. Ball striking (irons) was really good today. Driver was okay, nothing special. Burned the edge on at least 5 putts today (greens were just punched and sanded this week). cksurfdude, MattF, sirchunksalot and 7 others 10 Quote Driver: Rogue ST Max (10.5* set at -1 and neutral) -- Mitsubishi Tensai Blue 55g R shaft Fairway: Rogue ST Max 3 wood (16.5*) and Heaven Wood (20*)-- Tensai Blue 55g R shaft Hybrids: Rogue ST Max 5H (23*)--Tensai Blue 55g R shaft Irons: Apex CF19 6-9, PW, AW -- KBS Tour Graphite TGI 70 shafts R +1/2 inch 3* upright Wedges: Edison 53* and 57* KBS PGI 80 Graphite +1/2 inch 2* upright Putter: L.A.B. Hey everybody, get in here...The drinks are on @TSauer!!! Congratulations man! Did you go inside and see if you can get a plaque or something to commemorate the moment? I did, and every time I walk past the little table it sits on, I look at it and smile. Popular Post tony@CIC
Pretty decent weather - 88* but very windy. I'm still recovering from that pulled hamstring so I was holding back on my driver, but still got a 44 on the front. My putter was killing me - 20 putts on the front. Back was very slightly better ending with a 43. I missed 2 birdies on the back by about an inch a piece. They all seemed to want to rest on top of the hole and not drop in. Anyway I won't complain about the 87. Popular Post edingc
PERSONAL BEST ALERT! - 36/39 = 75 (+3) - 6/15 FIR - 11/18 GIR (2 birdies) - 30 Putts (12 2-putts, 6 1-putts) Cold, dreary morning and the course was pretty empty. I really took my time deciding on shots and it paid off! I actually didn't hit very many good shots from the tee today (bad case of the hooks with driver and Super Hybrid), but I hit my irons very well, chipped OK and putted excellently. And, down the stretch, my driver perked up for me. Played the front nine at even par for the first time ever, highlighted by a 25-foot birdie putt on No. 5. I was +2 coming to No. 16 (probably the second hardest hole on the course) and blasted a beautiful drive that led to a par. I very nearly hooked my tee shot on No. 17 out of bounds left, making a mess of the hole with a double bogey to get to +4 heading to No. 18 tee. (My previous best was +4 during Cobra Connect last summer.) Most of the pressure was off after the double bogey. I uncorked the longest drive I've ever hit on No. 18, 280 yards uphill, leaving 95 to the flag. Lined up a 58 wedge, landed a few yards short of the flag and ended up with my best approach all day. Knocked in the birdie putt for a new personal best. Feels amazing to put a great round together this early in the season. Lots of offseason work paying off! GolfSpy_BNG
Got out for a quick 9 this evening mainly just to swing the clubs. Wind was blowing a steady 12-15 with gusts in the upper 20’s. Without my membership I probably wouldn’t have went but since I need to get my money’s worth I’m taking every opportunity I get to swing the clubs. Played surprisingly well with a +1 37 2 bogeys and a birdie. One bogey was due to a chunked chip after smashing a drive to within 30 yards of the green. The birdie came from the par 5 that played downwind. I swung too hard trying to hit a monster drive to set up eagle and topped it about 170. Pulled my trusty Srixon F85 5 wood and bombed a 280 yard draw to within 50 yards and managed to get up and down for birdie. I hit 4/7 FIR and 6/9 GIR. I did have 16 putts which isn’t great but I was actually happy. I replaced my SS 1.0PT grip (60g) with a SS Grim Reaper Pistol 2.0 (51g). I have struggled with finding my line and keeping my face square with the PT and was getting very frustrated. Today I started every putt exactly where I wanted to but left 4 a combined 2’ short. I’m good with that as distance control will change with conditions. Zero 3 putts is also something I can live with lol. Hoping to get out tomorrow before the rain comes in to see if it continues. Sounds like you played well and I'm happy to hear your back is feeling better. I'm glad to hear you found an instructor that was able to diagnose your issue and give you something to work on to make it better. Good iron play makes for a fun round, I just wish the rain would've held off and we could've seen how well you shot the full round. 57 minutes ago, edingc said: PERSONAL BEST ALERT! - 36/39 = 75 (+3) - 6/15 FIR - 11/18 GIR (2 birdies) - 30 Putts (12 2-putts, 6 1-putts) Cold, dreary morning and the course was pretty empty. Man, you've put in the work during the off-season and it's great to see the results so early in the session. With the driver and super hybrid acting up, it's a testament to how good your approach game is.
