Popular Post ejgaudette
Got out for 18 yesterday morning and it was a bit brisk to say the least. Started off solid with three pars but then found some trouble and blocked out by some tree with iffy tee balls. Wound up going 41/40 for and 81 with a couple doubles. Felt worse but short game was solid and found my ball placement was off with the putter and after fixing that holed a number of 5 footers right in the heart which was great. Hoping to hit the range and find a groove a bit here with the ball striking, it could use a bit of help right now. Popular Post NRJyzr
Two rounds this past weekend. Both were not good. Friday, its raining, but supposed to stop at noon; our tee time is 1.00. Get to course, its a drizzle, no problem. Picks up a bit, and goes to intermittent. Kept raining until after 3.00. Best part, its 47*F. Woo! Game was junky in the crap, and got worse on the back, when I suddenly started hitting the ball all over the lot, including a shanked 5i OB (made a 9 on a par 5). Crowd pleasing 89. Yesterday, played in Men's Club, individual Low Net. Its 35*F. And its snowing. I managed to screw up a short putt to be at +1 thru 5 holes, only to hit the ball over some trees into a lovely farm field on a 415 yd par 4. Surprisingly, this is not conducive to low scoring. My provisional ball wound up in trees left, which also turns out to not be conducive to low scoring. I made a scintillating 9. Wind up 44-42 for an 86, in sub-40* temps and snow. I think my hdcp will be going up a bit. I have been struggling with them on the range; feel so different and not making good contact. After a couple of weeks wearing shorts, today was a long pants day; 4 layers on top; headband over my ears; and I was still cold. Temp never got above 55º with 20+ wind; no sun. Not a bad day with the Mizzies. I still don't know how far the ball goes with each club, and with the wind I decided it didn't really matter anyway. Shot 43/41, so an 84 with only one double. I seem to have a pronounced draw with these clubs that I have never had before; I guess I need to play it until it doesn't. I had one approach shot into the wind and from the left with an 8i that looked very good... until it wasn't. Waaay short! And in a bunker! I could have used a 7i or maybe a 6i. I really love the feel of these clubs when I strike the ball solid; however, I need to strike the ball solid... more often. Very similar day today; cold and windy. Very similar round with a score of 85... one more double but I had a birdie on the short par 4 #14. No Mizzie was involved. Driver and LW; ball hit the hole on my 2nd shot and made the 6 footer. I don't really get to hit my irons very much on my course, especially when it's windy... PW on #1 and 2 7i on #3 5i tee shot on #4 No irons on #5, 6, 7, 8 PW on #9 No irons on #10 6i on #11 No irons on #12, 13, 14 5i tee shot on #15 No irons on #16 9i tee shot on #17 6i layup; PW approach on #18 All holes with no iron shots were Driver, 3W or 3H, and a wedge. I used my 3W 8 times today; only once off the tee on the par 3 #8 hole. I normally use my 3H quite a bit on long par 4's and par 5's but only used it twice today. Just too much wind!! Popular Post Berg Ryman
This weekend was home to an 85. 4 lip outs and the weirdest head off quad I've made in some time. A round where ball striking as really good, but couldn't score for the life of me... except on the closing par 5. Into the wind, 245 yard drive, 225 yard 3 wood, 7 footer Eagle. It's that kind of thing that keeps you in it after a slow start to the season. Also, think 5 wood is going into time out for the foreseeable future, only ever going left with that club right now, it's mentally toast for me. Popular Post TBT
After the results from the other day I had to get another round in this weekend. Temperatures are perfect in the mid 80’s but quite windy. ball striking was quite as good as the other day but I’m not getting “stuck” anymore. 47 + 44 = 91 i left 2 long putts in the “jaws” that were 1 roll short of falling or I would have broke 90 again. cnosil, bens197, CarlH and 7 others 10 Quote XR Driver Matrix Ozik 8m3 Black Tie Shaft King F7 3W UST Mamiya Chrome Elements 7F4 Shaft King F7 5W UST Mamiya Chrome Elements 7F4 Shaft King F7 4 Hybrid Graphite Designs Tour AD-HY 95 Shaft PXG 0211 DC 5-PW Mitsubishi MMT 80 Shafts RTX ZIPCORE 50*,54*,58* UST Mamiya Recoil 95 Shafts Metal X Milled #7 with SuperStroke 2.0 grip MTB Twitter: @timldotson Instagram: timldotson Facebook: TimDotson

Popular Post MrBandit
Played my first US AM TOUR in over a year and the results where not horrible. Once I got passed the first tee nerves and hit the fairway then it was jus trying to keep the round going. Made some silly mistakes that cost me and turn into bogeys, I struggle with reading of the greens I was guess the wrong side every time leaving make able birdies. I was have keeping the round going on the back and on the 18th Tee box, one of the my playing competitors says, you are having a good round, you haven't had any doubles. Queue the toe slice barely catching the ball, that somehow didn't go OB but bounce back into the creek in front. Ended up making a double. Into the club house waiting for everyone to complete their round, another competitor says, congrats you won. 5 mins later, oh wait, there is one last group to come in and of course, there is the winning score in that group by 1. Not a bad second place finish, missed a lot of opportunities but didn't fold when I missed them. Made some crucial putts to same bogey that could have really derailed the round. cnosil, Rickp, ncwoz and 9 others 12 Quote Driver: TaylorMade Qi10 MAX - 8.5 with Fujikura Speeder NX TCS 50 (Terra Forza White Shaft Testing) 3 -Wood: Sub70 949x 3 Wood 15 with Hrdz RDX Black Stiff 5-Wood: Sub70 949x 5 Wood with Hrdz RDX Black stiff 4-Hybrid: Sub70 949x 4 Hybrid with Project X 5.5 Hybrid Stiff Irons: Mizuno Pro 225 - 6-PW , w/Nippon Modus 105 Stiff Wedges: Sub70 TAIII w/Nippon Modus 105 Stiff - 50 ,56, 60 Putter: L.A.B Mezz1, 34 in Balls: MaxFli Tour X, TaylorMade Tour Response, TaylorMade TPx GPS: Shot Scope X5 with Tracking TESTED: SUB70 949X 5 Wood TESTED: NIPPO N.S. Popular Post GolfSpy_BNG
Got out for a super quick 9 after work. 1hr 10 minutes 1st tee to 9th green! Started with a piped drive down the middle and a great PW to about 18’. Left the birdie 6” short but a par to start is always welcomed. Then the bad happened. Toed a 9-iron about 15 yards short of the par 3 second and proceeded to chunk the wedge and 2-putt for bogie. Just missed the fairway on 3 and chunked another wedge, chipped on and 2-putt for another bogie. +2 overall. Stepped to the dogleg right par 5 4th tee annoyed that I just chunked 2 wedges(normally the strongest part of my game), and smoked a fade over the trees and just not the fairway about 225 out. Pull 5 wood thinking an eagle here and I’m back to even. Took an easy swing so I wouldn’t go over and pulled it pin high left of the green. Chip on and make the 12 footer for birdie. Par 4 5th is an straight uphill hole. Great drive in the fairway and a flip wedge pushed a little to 25’. Make the putt for birdie and riding high now back to even. The 6th hole is a dogleg left but driveable if you can carry the trees at about 275-280 and get some roll. A draw works too if you can’t carry that far but my draw can turn into a hook if I’m trying to go for the green. Hit a high fade to pin high on the fringe. Got too aggressive with my chip and left myself a 15 footer and 2-putted. Now my Nemesis hole. Straight slightly downhill 473 yard par 4. Not sure why this hole gets to me as I have more than enough length to handle it. Absolutely smoke a drive down the middle to 150 out. Grab my 9-iron(ground has been firm so rolling the ball onto the green is better than trying to land on it as of now) and just as I start my downswing some idiot yells at the top of his lungs. I blade it and roll 20 yards over the green. Chip back on and 2-putt for bogie. I would have hit another ball but a couple let me play through and I didn’t want to slow them down by going back and getting another ball. Next up is the par 3 8th. Grab my 7-iron and take my stance. The same idiot yells again as I swing and I push it pin high right of the green. Now I’m really pissed and may have yelled back at him about manners on the course! Chip on and 2-putt again for bogie. Now I’m frustrated as I get to the uphill par 5 9th. Pull my driver on left and Re-Tee(stroke and distance). Smoke the next one down the middle. Pull 5 wood and hit another great shot to just short of the green. Chip it to 2’ and make putt for another bogie. Finished with a +3 39 due to the idiot and me not able to woosah it away! Popular Post Siamese Moose
I had my first night in a new league yesterday. (My old league did not survive our COVID hiatus.) I don't know anyone in this new group, but I took a chance on a convenient course location and good day and time. So far everyone I've met has been great. At 61 I'm the 4th youngest guy there! This group is very casual (appropriate for some of these older guys), and it's preferred lies always, and anything "inside the leather" is automatically given. There's a weekly $1 skins game, though they run it by pulling a ball out of a bag to pick the hole. If someone got a skin on that hole only they get the cash, if not it carries over. They also have closest to the pin prizes on all of the par 3's. I started off terrible, triple and a double, but chipped in for a par on 11 (played the back nine) to turn things around. Made some pars, but then another triple on 16 (one bad shot and four good ones). 17 is a funky hole that noone likes. It's par 5 hard left dogleg. If you can carry some unmown mounds and hit 210-230 with a draw you can have a mid or even short iron second. I hit a great 5 wood and put a 7 iron on for a two putt birdie. 18 is a long walk, and our opponents (riding) went ahead and hit their shots before we got there. It's a par 3, and we could see the marker was still in the fringe (we were the last group), so nobody had hit the green before us. One of my opponents was on, and happy because he hadn't had a greenie in a while. I the proceeded to hit a toed 8 iron that the crosswind blew perfectly, and ended up just outside "the leather" to take away his greenie, and then made the putt for birdie. He marked my name on the marker as "FNG". I now end up with skins on 17 and 18, and as the new guy in the league they have me pull the ball to pick the skins hole. You know what's coming: I pulled 17. There was $187 carryover from last season, so my $1 earned me $207, and I took a lot of good natured grief, though I promised to buy the first round next week. Now to everybody I'm FNG, which stands for F'in New Guy. Popular Post edingc
- 44/44 = 88 / 86 ESC (+14) - 5/15 FIR - 6/18 GIR - 33 Putts (4 3-putts, 8 2-putts, 5 1-putts, 1 chip-in Eagle!) Golf is a funny game. After going +3 overall on Saturday I was +5 standing on the fourth tee this morning. Hooked my Super Hybrid out of bounds left on No. 3, put my second tee shot behind a tree, landed in the greenside bunker and then three-putted to walk away with a quadruple bogey. I didn't play poorly, but I hit quite a few tee shots that hurt. I tried to make up for the tee shots by playing some aggressive shapes out from under the trees but had little success (duh... not a surprise). Also, my touch from 50-100ish yards was awful today, which largely led to two of my four three-putts. I think I drop kicked four Super Hybrids from the tee, which is weird because I had a fantastic day with it on the range yesterday. But, on the bright side, my driver was fantastic and the AutoFlex was shining. I hit a couple really good drives, and one led to a chip-in eagle from behind the green on the par 5 ninth hole. Beautiful weather for a round. Just need to erase a few really bad holes and my score would be much better looking. Arccos was awful again. I think I figured it out, however. My Samsung decided to allow the app to sleep. I noticed that if I kept the screen on and in the app it was working OK. I changed the setting and hopefully it will be better from here on out. I had already allowed the app access to the microphone since I had read that could be a problem, too. I had already allowed the app access to the microphone since I had read that could be a problem, too. definitely funny how the game is. CarlH
Stinky today. While I hit the ball well, putting was an issue. Greens were punched and sanded last week and they're horrible right now. Popular Post Shapotomous
2nd week of the league tonight. I got 4-1/2 out of 9 points which was OK since I was giving 7 shots. Shot a -2, 34... my best score in a long while. 2 bogey's, 4 birds and 3 pars. I was paying close attention to the yardage on the wedge shots tonight with the Snell MTB Black. I wasn't surprised by any of them coming up short like I was a couple times last week so I am attributing those to the wind knocking them down a bit. edingc, Kenny B, CarlH and 7 others 10 Quote Modern Bag: G410 LST 10.5*, Hzrdus Smoke RDX 6.5 Flex; 915F 3w, Diamana S+ 70 S flex; Snake Eyes 18* 2h, 23* 4h & 27* 5h; JPX 900 Forged 6 - PW, PX LZ 6.0; Edison 2.0 49*, 53*, 57* KBS Tour 120 S; Heppler Fetch; Ball - MTB-X; Bag - Jones MyGolfSpy Edition! Popular Post revkev
I played Sunday - just posting about it because of the app going down. Saw an email about the 6 distance killers in a swing. It must have been the video montage of my first 7 holes. Then I managed to scrape a par on 8, hit a nice drive on 9, beautiful 8 iron to tap in distance for a 43 that felt like 60. Drove it great the rest of the way, 2 classic stringy Bermuda growing into me around the green led to chunked chips but a beautiful trap shot on 11 and birdie on 17 brought a 37 on the back. I tied the Assistant pro we were playing on the back - we may have been on different tees though. He was very helpful while I was struggling - told me I was one good swing away - guess he was right. Popular Post chisag
... Intriguing round today and it really brought home how important focus, real focus is when trying to score. One of those days where everything was working well but nothing was working great. Could not get close enough for makable birdie putts with a lot of 15 to 20 footers that just didn't fall. 16 straight pars and thought about an 18 par day but ruined it when I holed a 15 footer for birdie on 17. Really tough but fair 426yd finishing hole that is all uphill from the tee but then all downhill to the green and I had to make a 7 footer to save par on 18 and really grinding out a 4. ... The course was not crowded at all and we finished in just over 3 hours. So I had the "brilliant" idea to keep playing until I had a bogie. (My back thinks brilliant should be replaced with stupid) This is when the focus really hit me because it is easy to bogie when you don't give every shot your full attention. Trying to play 27 holes without a bogie ain't easy. After a birdie on 19 and a routine par on 20 I hit a good drive on 21 a 430yd par 4 leaving me an in-between yardage so I gripped down 1" on my 7 iron and losing focus for just a miliasecond decelerated knowing I had too much club and pushed my approach shot into some hard pan right of the green AND semi-shortsided. The next 2 shots got my full attention and after a nice running chip bouncing twice in the rough I holed an 8 footer to save par. This one hole made me realize how often I don't give shots my full attention. I mean yea, I give all shots my attention but not my FULL attention when playing socially. ... After 3 more pars and really grinding out 2 of them I finally bogied a 176 yd par 3, #25 for the day. Pulled my 6 iron and hit the side of an elevated green leaving a brutal pitch that I had to kill in the grass and judge the speed for 10 feet of break. Normally I just take in the shot and give it my best, but really grinding I walked up and looked exactly where I wanted it to land and checked for any irregularities in the grass and tried to analyze how much it would break after landing just short of the green then picking up speed. Downhill and the massive break left me an 8 footer that I missed on the low side. I birdied 26 and had a routine par on 27. 3 birdies and one bogie in 27 holes. I was completely exhausted both mentally and physically. Peaksy68, sirchunksalot, Micah T and 15 others 17 1 Quote Driver: Qi10 10.5* ... Ventus Red Velocore 5R Fairway: Qi10 5 wood ... Popular Post MaxEntropy
I played 36 holes in the last 2 days. After work 9 on Monday that was about the most stress free 39 (+4) I've ever shot. Driver was behaving well and irons were perhaps the best ever. Arccos says I lost 0.0 strokes to a scratch golfer with my approach game. Short game was a bit rough, but I'll take it. Tuesday morning I walked 18 with @DiscipleofPenick on the course where our league plays (but we went to back tees instead of middle). Front 9 started great - par, par, birdie, bogey (always an acceptable score for me on that hole). Then the wheels started falling off. Lost the driver swing in the form of a bad two-way miss. Finally abandoned the driver for all but one hole the rest of the way. Irons started sharp, but eventually failed me, too. Ended up 42, 49 (+20). Tuesday evening league started like a continuation of the morning round - double, double, bogey, double. Managed to straighten things out to be +3 over the last 5 holes for a 46 (+10), but it was a grind with as tired as I was near the end. My fitbit logged 23,000+ steps yesterday and my back was starting to tighten in the morning round, so I suspect that was at least partially responsible for my AWOL swing. I could feel at times it was a struggle to finish the swing. Conditions were also tougher than normal. Of the 16 guys in our league, only 1 managed to beat his handicap. As a group, we averaged nearly 7(!!!!) strokes over HC. Since I was only 3 over, I actually feel pretty good about the night. bens197, cksurfdude, Shapotomous and 7 others 10 Quote Driver: Epic Speed 9* (set -1) MMT 70X 3W: Tour B JGR Recoil 760ES 3H, 4H: Tour B JGR 19*, 23* Recoil 780ES 4-AW: Tour B JGR HF2 Modus3 Tour 105 SW: RTX Zipcore Black Satin 54* LW: TAIII Black 58* Putter: Scottsdale TR Senita Bag: BigMax Dri Active Lite Ball: TP5x or AVX (yellow) Pushcart: BigMax iQ+ Testing Complete, Final Review Posted: Sub70 TAIII Forged Wedges

There is a pretty big distinction between playing social golf and playing serious golf. Most of the time I am happy to have fun interacting with my partners, enjoy the wildlife, appreciate the walking and play some pretty good golf. Yesterday was not fun, just a non stop grind the last 18 holes. I very rarely have a tournament focus when playing casually because it takes sooooooo much effort mentally. Kinda like what the Pros go through playing a Major, just a 100% focus and they all talk about how exhausting it is playing 4 days in a major and I really respect that kind of dedication and focus. cnosil, Rickp, cksurfdude and 3 others 5 1 Quote Driver: Qi10 10.5* ...
