How'd you play?

@rbsiedsc brought his buddy from work and they both pounded the ball waaaay past me!!  I had a great time!!  Might not have looked like it at times, but that's typical of my play on a course I am not familiar with and also with conditions I am not familiar with.  I have to say that I have never walked 9 holes on a course before where my pant legs were soaking wet; and I was in the fairway... mostly!

Didn't keep score.  Not sure what I shot, but I did have two pars!  I was playing a new driver I bought yesterday, and I really didn't have the confidence I do with my old driver.  I started feeling better with it on the last few holes.  My wife told me that we are playing at 8am tomorrow, so I will see how it performs on familiar turf.

I should say, though, you were mostly in better spots than us all day. And your short game was top notch.

First 2021 season MT round completed today at Bridger Creek.  A little over 3 weeks since my last round in AZ and I'm so glad hole #1 was not tell tale of how the round was going to proceed 😬.  Snap hook into the lake on #1, hit a tree branch on next shot taking me into deep rough, pulled the next left of the green and limped into the hole for a triple-bogey. Another bogey on hole #2, then things settled a little bit.

Crazy how quick the patina returns.  I felt kind of stiff through most of the front nine; some nice mid length putts kept the score from running away. Fun birdie, birdie finish yielding a 42/37 on a beautiful spring day. PXL_20210429_233925395.jpg.431384352810f42bb804fac591b39b79.jpg

Hard to move on from new clubs you haven't even had the opportunity to play 🙄.  I'm hoping to hear they are fixed and on their way back any day now.  Honestly, it's been a real drag and disappointment.  All jazzed up about new irons only to wait quite awhile for them to arrive, have issues, and have to be returned.

Got to play 9 with @Kenny B today and had a great time. One of those days where I took my targeting from the range and applied it to the course and everything went where I aimed ( not my target). Lead to no FIR or GIRs. Ball striking was decent. Some hooks. Driving was great until last two holes. Had my shot pattern followed on the course for what I did at the range I would have had a stellar round.

Played 18 for business yesterday. Ran late getting out of a meeting so pretty much showed up to course right at tee time with no warm up (I hate that!!!). And boy did it show. This is a course that just beats you up to begin with (71.8/134 6529 yds). Lots of sand and water. Short game and putting has been only saving grace lately. Shot worst round in a while 103 (net 101) compared to a 96 a little over a week ago at the same course. Definitely falling off the rails only being able to get out once every 3-4 weeks. Struggling really bad out of the tee box and and irons hooking both pretty bad. I'm probably averaging about 5 penalties a round right now. I'm pretty sure it's joint faults of 1) not getting rotation off back foot leading to 2) flipping hands over at impact. Few and far between I keep my trail arm under and tucked. So not so much frustrated with my playing as much as it frustration with lack of even practice time....

Less than thrilled with this 79 from yesterday, but I'm trending in the right direction compared to my first few rounds on the year so I'll take it.

1585755178_WillowLakes-29Apr.jpg.7c5e476a5706e8e10640b1f548a73afb.jpg

I started out well and then lost some steam, largely because I probably mentally got caught up in thinking what score I could post after my hot start...I really need to be better about being present and just focusing on the next shot.  The three doubles are also pretty maddening; one on a par 5, then back to back doubles on pretty simple par 3's!  The three putt on 18 was also very frustrating...having an eagle putt from the fringe and walking away with only a par was disappointing.

All that said, I'm encouraged.  Just need to tighten a few things up and make some smarter decisions off the tee.

Regardless good round! I struggle with the same (as many of us do I assume) looking forward instead of focusing on the hole. How bad were the misses off the tee?

I'll try to keep it short, but I just signed up for DECADE Foundations a couple weeks ago.  If you're familiar with it, it's all about playing one shot shape and accounting for your dispersion in selecting your target from the tee box (among many other things).  Granted, I just started the program so I'm just learning, but I did a poor job yesterday.

For example, took a double on a par 5 because for me, who plays a cut off the tee, the right water hazard that stretches from 230-300 winks at me and grins when I come to the tee box.  So, naturally, I smothered hooked that tee shot left instead of playing my cut but just taking a smart line.  On another my tee shot wasn't aggressive enough and I ran out of fairway when the dogleg turned...ended up behind a tree despite it being a solid drive, so I had to punch out, lipped out the par putt.

Just a lot of mental stuff to tighten up.  I'm confident I'll get there.

Keep at it and one day you will be.

If you just signed up, there is a lot of good information coming on managing expectations and making the right decisions in front of you.  dECADE won’t keep you front hitting those bad shots but will hopefully help you select better targets.

Snuck out for another 9 today. So windy and it messed with me for sure but I snuck out a 41 on a round that could have easily been 48, putter and wedge play saved my butt, only 12 putts.

besides the 1st and last hole I did not get off the tee well again and I I was thinnning all my irons but on a windy day it didn’t hurt me. To give you an idea on wind arccos had me several times playing an extra 35 yards into the wind.
my last two holes went par/bird and it’s exactly why we come back to this game.

8th hole is a short par 3 and the wind pushed me way left and long. I came back to put the ball within 2’ of the hole with a very nice pitch over a bunker short side flag7AF7BE0E-C57B-41A7-832E-F65847412064.jpeg.ae4b8a33428a8d30cd0ba99f27dda172.jpegB5BDA915-9505-45E7-9E12-DE03DCD7BFD3.jpeg.d5e8d3bbf252b9a5fae3bf30765e30fd.jpeg

last hole bombed a driver that caught the hill. Wind was left to right no assistance. Put my wedge to 3’

Had a great range session today and since I was going to have a hard time getting on the course tomorrow, I played today. Well, the slump is still in full effect. Shot a robust 57/55 for 112 hitting 4 fairways and zero greens with 37 putts.

Driver was decent, when it was on, it was on fire. When it wasn't, I wanted to set it on fire. I had lots of just straight up nasty lefts. I also hit my second and third longest drives recorded on Arccos. Screenshot_20210501-200103-01.jpeg.a665c3fa38ce03920628b012322c673d.jpegScreenshot_20210501-200121-01.jpeg.d3c52ca1ec9ffffa167795b70422001c.jpeg

As you can see, my iron play was horrendous. I was either pulling them or shanking. My wedge game over 30 yards wasn't too good either, but if you put me inside 25 yards, I was deadly. I had 4 short chips scare the hole and was hitting some nasty @Shankster low spinny shots. Those shots are just fun to hit. If I can get my iron game figured out, I think I can get into the low 90's and even possibly high 80's.

I was playing solo and stuck behind a foursome that didn't know the meaning of "do you want to play through? ". They were slow and it got me all out of whack.

My game will get there and I'll really appreciate it once I get things straightened out. It was a beautiful day just to be outside and I've got a couple of days I'm taking off work next week that will be good to play again.

Keep on keepin on man you’ll get there. Good wedge play is secretly becoming the favorite thing in my game. Low spin and check is a beautiful thing to watch

You ain't kidding about the hop and check, it's just something to see. I had one on the fourth hole with the green running downhill. I opened up the wedge, hit the shot, and watched it hit, spin and go slightly left, and stop around 4 feet from the hole. It was mesmerizing.
