Might not have looked like it at times, but that's typical of my play on a course I am not familiar with and also with conditions I am not familiar with. I have to say that I have never walked 9 holes on a course before where my pant legs were soaking wet; and I was in the fairway... mostly! Didn't keep score. Not sure what I shot, but I did have two pars! I was playing a new driver I bought yesterday, and I really didn't have the confidence I do with my old driver. I started feeling better with it on the last few holes. My wife told me that we are playing at 8am tomorrow, so I will see how it performs on familiar turf. I should say, though, you were mostly in better spots than us all day. And your short game was top notch. sirchunksalot, cksurfdude, Kenny B and 3 others 6 Quote Follow my journey to enjoying golf and going low Driver: Epic Max LS Ventus Black 6x 44.5" 3wHL: Rogue ST LS 75x Tensei AV Blue w/ xlink 7w: Apex UW 21* MMT 80S DI: Caley 01X 18* with KBS PGH Stiff plus 95g 4-AW: 0211 with KBS Tour Stiff 2.5* up 3/4" long, Soft stepped, MOI matched Wedges Zipcore Putter: L.A.B. A little over 3 weeks since my last round in AZ and I'm so glad hole #1 was not tell tale of how the round was going to proceed . Snap hook into the lake on #1, hit a tree branch on next shot taking me into deep rough, pulled the next left of the green and limped into the hole for a triple-bogey. Another bogey on hole #2, then things settled a little bit. Crazy how quick the patina returns. I felt kind of stiff through most of the front nine; some nice mid length putts kept the score from running away. Fun birdie, birdie finish yielding a 42/37 on a beautiful spring day. One of those days where I took my targeting from the range and applied it to the course and everything went where I aimed ( not my target). Lead to no FIR or GIRs. Ball striking was decent. RDel90
Played 18 for business yesterday. Ran late getting out of a meeting so pretty much showed up to course right at tee time with no warm up (I hate that!!!). And boy did it show. This is a course that just beats you up to begin with (71.8/134 6529 yds). Lots of sand and water. Short game and putting has been only saving grace lately. Shot worst round in a while 103 (net 101) compared to a 96 a little over a week ago at the same course. Definitely falling off the rails only being able to get out once every 3-4 weeks. Struggling really bad out of the tee box and and irons hooking both pretty bad. I'm probably averaging about 5 penalties a round right now. I'm pretty sure it's joint faults of 1) not getting rotation off back foot leading to 2) flipping hands over at impact. Few and far between I keep my trail arm under and tucked. So not so much frustrated with my playing as much as it frustration with lack of even practice time.... cnosil, GolfSpy_SHARK, tony@CIC and 6 others 5 4 Quote Bag: Sub 70 Cart Series bag Driver: Ping G425 LST 9 deg (set to 7.5 deg/"big minus") Mitsubishi C6 Blue Stiff 55g Grip JumboMax Ultralite (=std grip Jumbo size) 3W: Ping G410 14.5 deg (Set to 13.5 deg) Mitsubishi C6 Blue Stiff 65g Grip JumboMax (=std grip Jumbo size) Hybrid: 19 deg (Set to 18) deg Ping G410 hybrid Mitsubishi C6 Black Stiff 80g Grip JumboMax Ultralite (=std grip Jumbo size) Irons: 5-GW Irons Cobra Forged Tec X KBS Tour Lite Regular -0.25" Grip JumboMax (=std grip Jumbo size) Wedges: 50-07 S-grind, 54-08 D-grind and 58-12 deg D-grind Mizuno T22 Denim Copper Grip Golf Pride Z-Grip Putter: Cobra King 3D Printed Agera Armlock Putter 41" Game Ball: Maxfli TourX CG
Popular Post GolfSpy AFG
Less than thrilled with this 79 from yesterday, but I'm trending in the right direction compared to my first few rounds on the year so I'll take it. I started out well and then lost some steam, largely because I probably mentally got caught up in thinking what score I could post after my hot start...I really need to be better about being present and just focusing on the next shot. The three doubles are also pretty maddening; one on a par 5, then back to back doubles on pretty simple par 3's! The three putt on 18 was also very frustrating...having an eagle putt from the fringe and walking away with only a par was disappointing. All that said, I'm encouraged. Just need to tighten a few things up and make some smarter decisions off the tee. I'll try to keep it short, but I just signed up for DECADE Foundations a couple weeks ago. If you're familiar with it, it's all about playing one shot shape and accounting for your dispersion in selecting your target from the tee box (among many other things). Granted, I just started the program so I'm just learning, but I did a poor job yesterday. For example, took a double on a par 5 because for me, who plays a cut off the tee, the right water hazard that stretches from 230-300 winks at me and grins when I come to the tee box. So, naturally, I smothered hooked that tee shot left instead of playing my cut but just taking a smart line. On another my tee shot wasn't aggressive enough and I ran out of fairway when the dogleg turned...ended up behind a tree despite it being a solid drive, so I had to punch out, lipped out the par putt. Just a lot of mental stuff to tighten up. I'm confident I'll get there. 7 minutes ago, RDel90 said: I'd kill to be less than thrilled with a 79!!!!! Popular Post GolfSpy_BNG
Took off work an hour early since the weather was beautiful and is suppose to blow(15-20 steady with 30mph gusts)big time over the next few days. For some reason everything with the driver felt forced and ended up having to just play the cut that seemed to be prevalent today. I really scrambled well with my irons and wedges today. Shot 40/36 +4 76 with 2 birdies. 6/14 fairways 10/18 GIR and 1 GUR! Managed to drive the Par 4 6th hole the second time around(9-hole course). Left the eagle putt about a foot short I did have 33 putts but did not miss a putt under 10’ which is huge for me. If I wouldn’t have been scrambling from missing the fairway I think I could have easily shot 2/3 under the way everything else was working. I think all I need is to be chosen for the cobra connect challenge to push me under par! Popular Post Kenny B
Well, today I was the "token male" of my group again. My wife had made the tee time with two ladies from her ladies league, and I tagged along still tired and sore from a driver fitting, walking 9 holes with @rbsiedscin Portland then getting in a car and driving for 3.5 hours. I wasn't sure I could play but managed to slog it around the course. The front nine was pretty good with a +4 41; parred the first 5 holes. On the par 5 #5 playing 550y, I missed the green to the right down a steep slope; can only see the top of the flag for my 4th. Hit my 60º a touch thin and I thought I would be on the other side of the green in a similar lie, but all the ladies were yelling!! Well, maybe I holed it!! Nope, the ball hit the flagstick... a tap-in par. The wheels started falling off on #7, and continued on the back nine where I shot a +8 43. My legs gave out, and I had no swing. Still shot 84, so I will take it. Went home and mowed the lawn which then required fixing a sprinkler! Tomorrow my wife and I are playing with our tax accountant. I'm still sore, lessened a little bit my another double... bourbon, that is... on the rocks! Popular Post Jmikecpa
Played another new course to me at Colonial Heritage in Williamsburg. A little bit of a quirky layout but was fun to play. Had it at even on the back 9 (my front 9) until I got to 18. Went for it from 247 over water and my 5 wood came out dead flat and 5 yards short leading to a disgraceful double. In fairness it was a harder lay up than giving it a go, the approach for my 4th went deep and plugged in a bunker. Couldn’t get it up and down. Played the front 9 in even par with 9 straight no stress pars for 74. Overall struck it pretty well and starting to get used to the driver. It is a bit of a different animal than the PXG I had been playing for the last year. Really happy with how I struck the ball and my putting for once. Shot 78 with 4 birdies. Had two really dumb double bogeys that led off by bad tee shots and not playing smart. Popular Post puttnfool
I shot an 83 (+13) today with 4 doubles on the card... on a course I had never played before today. This just 2 weeks after I shot an 83 (+13) with 3 doubles and a triple on the card. Somewhere in between those, I shot a 39 (+3) on a much longer course than either of these with a bogey and a double. Something has gotta give. Wish I could find some consistency. tony@CIC, GolfSpy_BNG, Kenny B and 8 others 11 Quote WITB: Taylormade SIM2 Max 9° w/ UST ProForce V2 5F3 @ 45" Callaway Epic Speed 4wd w/ AccuFLEX Evolution Reg Dynacraft Genesis 3 hybrid w/ Steelfiber i95r Srixon ZX5 4-6 and ZX7 7-GW w/ UST Recoil 95 F4 soft stepped once Cleveland RTX Zipcore 54/10 w/ Recoil 95 F4 shaft Cleveland RTX-4 58/03 w/ Recoil 95 F4 9i shaft Odyssey SL EXO Marxman Pondering: Nothing at the moment In the locker: Too much to list

What's leading to the doubles and triples? If you can eliminate the cause of those, you'll start seeing things going your way. Trust me. I've had my share of good rounds ruined by multiple "other" scores on holes. Popular Post Kenny B
Annually, my wife and I play a round of golf with our tax accountant. For obvious reasons he doesn't get out to play much before tax day, so his game was rusty. Our fourth was one of the guys I play Wolf with occasionally who is also a client of our tax guy. I had a very solid round; two birdies and no doubles or worse. Had to make a couple of long-ish putts to save bogey though. 39/37 for a 76. One birdie was on the par 4 #7 hole that I did not birdie all last year; today was my second birdie on that hole this year. My other birdie came on the par 5 #13; good drive but thinned my second shot; still got to within PW distance and stuck my approach to 4 feet. I had a couple of stupid bogeys on #16 and 18, otherwise I could have shot my age... well, in 2 weeks that is. I'm beginning to think it's doable!! Popular Post sirchunksalot
Had a great range session today and since I was going to have a hard time getting on the course tomorrow, I played today. Well, the slump is still in full effect. Shot a robust 57/55 for 112 hitting 4 fairways and zero greens with 37 putts. Driver was decent, when it was on, it was on fire. When it wasn't, I wanted to set it on fire. I had lots of just straight up nasty lefts. I also hit my second and third longest drives recorded on Arccos. As you can see, my iron play was horrendous. I was either pulling them or shanking. My wedge game over 30 yards wasn't too good either, but if you put me inside 25 yards, I was deadly. I had 4 short chips scare the hole and was hitting some nasty @Shankster low spinny shots. Those shots are just fun to hit. If I can get my iron game figured out, I think I can get into the low 90's and even possibly high 80's. I was playing solo and stuck behind a foursome that didn't know the meaning of "do you want to play through? ". They were slow and it got me all out of whack. My game will get there and I'll really appreciate it once I get things straightened out. It was a beautiful day just to be outside and I've got a couple of days I'm taking off work next week that will be good to play again. I opened up the wedge, hit the shot, and watched it hit, spin and go slightly left, and stop around 4 feet from the hole. It was mesmerizing. Low spin and check is a beautiful thing to watch It's fun to watch a low spinning check shot, but difficult for me to consistently hit. It checks more that I think sometimes, and other times, it doesn't check much. It's not something I will try unless I'm just out having fun or practicing shots. Picking a spot to land the ball with a wedge (LW in my case); high, medium or low and knowing that the ball will roll out a predictable distance is a better shot to reduce # of putts, IMO. Maybe it's the type of grass I play on, IDK. Quite possibly, you need to replace said items often. cksurfdude, tony@CIC, Kenny B and 9 others 2
