Wolverine784
The return to warm and windy conditions meant an early start to the 18 hole round at the local college track just west of the city. Everything was just a little off but the putter continues to be my most baffling stick. Speed, a slight pull, and just a huge lack of confidence are hurting potentially decent scores. I plan to hit the putting green for practice soon or it is going to be a very expensive golf trip coming up. 44/47 for my splits with a variety of penalty strokes and missed opportunities. A couple things to remind myself of though... * Intermittent fasting is not a good idea to stick to when you are playing an early round and need energy. * New clubs take some time to get used to and I think my higher than normal scores this season prove that out. Rebuilt most of my bag during the offseason and learning the new distances/trajectory/flight path take time especially when 9 holes every other week is the norm. Still love the game, but right now I am struggling to like it fixyurdivot, NRJyzr, cksurfdude and 5 others 8 Quote Driver - 410 LST - 10.5 Degree - Stiff Tsi2 3 and 4 Hybrids - Fujikura Ventus 8S 639 CB 5-7 - Nippon Modus Tour 120 Steel 639 MB 8-PW - Nippon Modus Tour 120 Steel RTX 3 Wedges - 50, 54, 58 Sigma 2 Tyne Putter Duo Professional Ball
Popular Post cksurfdude
Played 18 recently (usually play just 9) with friends who moved into an area nearby with a civic association that runs an annual outing at nice private club there. It's a classic Seth Raynor design originally from 1919, on the grounds of what was once one of the "Gold Coast" estates (on the North Shore of Long Island) back in the day; apparently most of the course is still true to the original. Nice layout and a nice natural feeling to it .. well .. except for that one short Par 4 where your tee shot has to carry a neighborhood street! (presumably built well after 1919) The guys played from the White tees which are about 6,255 yds and rated 71.2/131 so yeah there are definitely a few challenging holes. Played mostly ok-ish, ie. not great but too horrible; actually hit way more tee shots into the fairway, and not into trouble, vs my usual play. Made a bunch of bogeys (10) which wasn't too bad, considering, and may have been a little better if my putting had just been a leeetle sharper - a lot of putts were sooo close and grazing the edge and dying within inches of the hole. Then made one Triple which kinda unleashed a wave of Doubles .. had 5 over the next 6 holes (with another bogey mixed in) .. did make one Par on the shortest Par 3 (had a chance on another Par 3 but, uhhh .. 3-putted) .. but closed with another Double after a just ok tee shot to the left half of the fairway followed by a really good second to put the ball just short of the frontside bunker followed by a badly chunked chip that went nowhere so I got to try it again .. first putt another "almost"... Finished with a 96 .. which I guess is not all too terrible considering all the Doubles. Best hole for overall ball striking was #1 - which was our 12th hole of the day (shotgun start) - a long Par 5 at 550 yds. Hit my best tee shot of the day, rolled to the left edge of the fairway but got it out there a ways; then a really solid second down the right side to get into position for the approach; then a reasonably solid approach that went the right distance but I pulled left and was in the rough pin-high on a mound on the outside of a greenside bunker .. good pitch on though I hit a bit of a downslope and the ball ran out way past the pin, but did get the first putt pretty close. And then it was onto the 19th Hole where we all ate and drank a lot!! M. Parsons, fixyurdivot, Rickp and 7 others 9 1 Quote WITB of an "aspiring" play-ah ... RollingGreens
I was cooking through 9 yesterday with a 41 unfortunately I had a bad stretch of holes from 14 on and a triple bogey on 18 that left me with a 49 of the back. Not a terrible day but I wish I could have held up on the back by 3-5 less strokes. Me and my partner had a top 10 2nd day finish and for the tournament we finished 17th. A decent first day would have put us easily into the money for finals standings. All in all a great weekend and a lot of lessons learned. Having a hard time getting over the some issues. Seems like no matter the tees or distance I am making just as many mistakes putting and hitting greens in regulation. My front 9 I capitalized on both. The back 9 seemed like I was slogging though it with no rhythm cksurfdude, cnosil, MaxEntropy and 4 others 7 Quote Stealth 2 Plus 9deg Kai' li Red Stealth 2 13deg Aldilla Rogue Silver Stealth 2 15deg Aldilla Rogue Silver JPX 921 Hot Metal 4-PW Nippon Modus 120s SM8 54 and 58deg Dynamic Gold Wedge Flex Scotty Cameron Newport 2 Titleist ProV1 Hoofer Stand Bag Stewart Q Follow Electric Caddie 300 PRO Rangefinder Official Nippon Regio B+ Driver Shaft Review Official Stewart Q Follow Review

Popular Post RoverRick
Played a pretty solid round of golf this weekend. I got to play the previous weekend 5 days in a row for the first time in 8 months and it mad a huge difference. These high lofted fairway woods are a game changer. On the number 10 tee box I said “Anything past the tree is a good drive on this hole.” To my playing partner who was unhappy with his drive. I then proceeded to hit the tree almost dead center and bounced deeper into them. I had an opening but had to launch it high and was 185 yards for the green. I could not actually see the green unless I got down on my knees and looked under the 5-6 trees between me and the green. It was in the deep grass but sitting on a track mark from a cart so I could get the club on it. I took the 9 wood and thought “just make good contact.” So I took a mighty swing but the flying grass kept me from seeing the ball. It felt good. I yelled to the guy 85 yards closer and standing in the fairway if he saw it. He said, “Yes, we all ____ing saw it.” I said I didn’t where is it. He said “3 feet from the ____ing pin and I thought it was going in.” I ended up making $10 there and a total of $60 for the day. Normally I use a range finder to get the exact distance but in this case I just guessed the distance and just hoped I could get over the trees and have a chip and avoid a big number, I never expected to have little more than a tap in for birdie. cksurfdude, Rickp, RollingGreens and 12 others 15 Quote G430LST 10.5° on T P T POWER 18 Hi Driver G430MAX 3w on T P T POWER 18 Hi Fairway G425 3H on T P T POWER 18 Hi Hybrid G425 4H on TGH 80S i525 5-U on TGI 90S SM8 54 & 60 on Wedge DF2.1 on White ProV1 Precision Pro NX7 Pro All Iron grips are BestGrips Micro-Perforated Mid

Popular Post edingc
- 40/41 = 81 (+9) - 4/15 FIR - 5/18 GIR (1 birdie) - 29 Putts (11 2-putts, 7 1-putts) Another densely foggy morning which was tough to work with. I couldn't see my tee shots land all day and was only able to see greens for my approach by about No. 17. Wasted a fantastic day with the putter due to my driver all of a sudden going left on me today. It had been going right for the past three weeks! Hooked two balls OB left on the back nine. All but one other of my drivers today went left. On the plus side I was making much better contact with the ball and had two drives out over 280 yards according to Arccos. Other than the driver, it was a pretty solid round! Had a double bogey on No. 2 because I was about 30 yards past the green with my second shot. Not sure how I managed that! Also birdied No. 9 for the first time this year after hitting a great wedge from the rough about 100 yards out to five feet. Popular Post Keeper905
I had a rough start to my day. First drive pushed it right, but thought I was OK and had a clear shot to the green. However, I hit it a little longer into the long weeds and never found it. Followed it up with a horrible 7 iron over the green and off the cart path. Second hole same thing. Pushed it right, but found it. But second shot on steep angle went straight into the water. Rest of the front nine was a mix of good and bad, but started getting it together by the 7th hole. Ended up at 12 over for the front. Back nine I got it all together. Ran a streak of pars and hit most shots square, so much better. Went 3 over for the back nine. Was surprised at how much better I did on the back nine as it was hot for so early in the year (just over 90F) and I was walking. M. In fact it’s been so long that putter and range finder are the only same things in my bag! Shot 40 - meh and first but not do fast - this one is okay everything down, putt everything out, straight rules of golf - Oh and I have to play back half a set of tees back until October. Popular Post MaxEntropy
Is good as the last few weeks have mostly been, the other shoe had to drop eventually, right? I could do nothing right tonight. I shot a 51 (+15) with 1 penalty and no lost balls. I could literally do nothing. I even had 3 3-putts, which is way out of the ordinary for me on our league course. Tee balls sucked, approach sucked, bad chipping. I have no idea what happened, but I didn't even feel comfortable swinging the orange whip while warming up. Ugh. Oh well, it was better than yard work. Popular Post chisag
... After missing most fairways and greens and dealing with lightening fast putting surfaces with a smooth 77 yesterday at Camelback Padre with not a single birdie til the 18th (and I had to chip in from 20 yds off the green) I had a nice comeback today . I posted in the play correct tee thread about playing a combo or building your own and I did just that today at the Raven. 6722 is just too long for me with #3 a 459 par 4 in lush conditions with little Rolla nd into a gentle breeze. Ironically I thought I had a birdie as I reached the 443 yd slightly uphill in 2 with a 4 iron and cozied up the 30 footer for a tap in but then was reminded it was just a par 4. Payback came on #12, a 476 yd par 5 I again reached in 2 with a 4 iron from 205 that landed just short, hoped on rolled 15 feet past the hole and I made the putt. Thinking it was another silly long par 4 I commented I needed that birdie after landing in the sand-less bunker on #10 and having to play away from the green only to have my playing pards say "No, that's an Eagle 3, it's a par 5" That was a very pleasant surprise. ... So for my game, 6264 is just too short and as stated above 6722 a little too long so I played 9 holes off the silver and 9 holes off the white for a comfortable but still challenging 6474. The 202 yd par 3 uphill with a deep bunker guarding the entire left side and the pin almost off the left edge of the green, I pushed my 4 iron to the right fringe leaving a double breaking 90 foot putt that ended up 7 feet below the hole and I missed the putt for a bogie and that was all the hole I could ask for. Fair but very difficult. So if your course doesn't have a designated combo on the card, make your own! Shapotomous, RollingGreens, cnosil and 15 others 18 Quote Driver: Qi10 10.5* ... Popular Post cksurfdude
Walked 9 with just a Sunday bag (even tho it was weekday ha ha ha lol) and 5 clubs - 4H, 8i, PW, 54 and putter. I usually walk with a push (actually now: electric) cart and have golfed "light" a few times in the past, but def going to be doing this more often ... in fact, even just purchased a new ultralight stand bag! Played from the forward Senior tees and made mostly ok shots .. trying to pick a smart target and send the ball there, although .. after the very first tee shot that I ripped straight down the middle (whoa..!??!) .. I continue to struggle with my tee shots... (..more lessons are coming up!) Ended up with a bunch of short approaches from about 50-110 and did hit the greens on those (yea); on the longer Par 3 at about 135 hit the right distance but pulled it left into the bunker (oops). Gave myself a second chance at another bunker shot after I sent the ball all the way over the opposite side of the pretty large green (d'oh)... Putting was another bunch of almosts plus a few that I rolled too far - either misjudged the speed of the green or just hit the ball too firmly. May have uncovered something in my putting - I've been picking a spot on my line in front of the ball and then, of course, trying to roll the ball over that spot (and to my target spot). I haven't been using the line on the ball to line it up to my aim spot .. and I think I've been slightly pulling or pushing each putt onto a *different* line when I'm looking down at the ball at address ... The last hole I was playing two balls, and each ended up maybe 10-12 feet from the hole; one to the left going a little downhill and left-to-right break and the other under the hole going a little bit uphill and also with a slight left-to-right break (towards the water). Really focused on watching the putter head move over my *original* aim spot after hitting the ball, and .. nailed both! Right line, right speed, right in. Bam! Popular Post NRJyzr
I've got a tale of two rounds.... Played in a two day men's club event, it was an individual Best Ball. Basically a solo ringer score from back to back rounds, net. OK, sounds interesting. Day One... we start on 10th hole. Putter doesn't really behave, I'm blocking tee shots, then miss left inthe latter part of the round. Have a couple Roberto Duran moments in the short game, I three putt three times. And make a nine on the par 5 8th hole, laying three in the greenside trap (club bounced into the ball sending it 45 yds past the green). And somehow manage an 85 out of all that, which puts me only five shots off the leader. Huh? The next day, start on #1. I fight my tee game for 6 holes, limp along with crap results, then driver returns from the landfill. I make par on the par 5 I'd butchered the day prior, par the 431 yd par 4 9th (#1 hdcp hole), and generally improve on results, before I fall into the junk pile again, making doubles on 15 and 16 and three jacking 17. Shoot 91 the second day. Because of how my blow-up holes were staggered, I managed to finish T6, four shots back, in spite of being +34 over the two days. My gross ringer score was 76. Funny game, this golf. Popular Post sirchunksalot
I mentioned earlier in the Random Thread that today was my first day back at work after summer shutdown and they let us leave early and paid us to do so. I came home, grabbed my bag, and headed out to the course. Played 9 holes and shot a 52. I hit 5/7 fairways, zero greens and had 18 putts. The fairways hit stat is pretty misleading as I couldn't hit a drive over 200 and had lots of weak slices that just happened to not fly far enough to go OB. As bad as driver was, my fairway woods were worse. I topped the daylights out of them, except for one 5 wood that just sailed so beautifully...I think it was an anomaly. My irons were just ok and the only thing I had going for me were my wedges, they were on fire! My putting wasn't up to my usual expectation, the greens were slower than normal and I just couldn't figure them out. Not gonna lie, I'm really frustrated with my game right now. I've worked all winter and spring and just haven't seen results. I hit a few balls afterward on the range and nearly walked off after half a bucket. The best thing to come out of the range session was I figured out my driver. I was getting my hands too high at the top of the backswing and after figuring that out I was striping it. I guess that'll keep me coming back for more. I attempted to take video, and got one good swing. My phone fell down on my second shot. Popular Post CarlH
Had the practice round at the member guest tournament at Diamante CC with my friend In Hot Springs Village Arkansas. Been some heavy rain here and the course was soaked. First time playing this course and came in with an 83. Course was very sloppy, but the greens were flawless, not as fast as usual, but receptive. My partner had his best round at the course since becoming a member here in December with a nice 75. Today is the first round and we'll be playing Better Ball. Hopefully I'll play better and hopefully my partner didn't spend his limit with yesterday's round. Popular Post Curtis Atkinson
Started off not great and ended up playing best round of my life (by differential). Have been really struggling to take the swing from the practice mat to the course. On the 5th hole of the day (first par 5) I duffed a hybrid. Playing by myself I was frustrated so I dropped another ball, another duff. More frustrated I dropped a 3rd, shifted something slightly at setup and hit the purest feeling shot I've ever hit. Kept focusing on that small change (basically forcing hands too high at setup) and the ball just FELT different on every shot. Was striking so well I didn't even bother pulling driver as I went Hybrid-hyrbrid on a 500 yard par 5 to set up a tap in birdie. Played the next 12 holes at +5 which included a double bogey on a par 5 where I was 15 feet from the pin just off a maniacal green for birdie and ended up sending it way past the hole. Ended up shooting an 87 (+15) on a course that I was playing for the first time and walking without knowing it was the hilliest course I've ever played, in 90* heat index LOL. Overall a really fun round. Need to make sure I carry over to the next. 45/42 = 87 (+15) 9/14 FIR (64%) 8/18 GIR (44%) 33 putts (13 2-putts, 4 1-putts M. Popular Post edingc
- 35/38 = 73 (+1) - 4/15 FIR - 11/18 GIR (4 birdies) - 29 Putts (1 3-putt, 9 2-putts, 8 1-putts) Scott Fawcett is not wrong when he says winning/playing well is about as much luck as anything else! I had a lesson yesterday and got sorted out and hit the ball excellently with everything today, but of the four birdies, I'd say only one I would have expected to go in. Birdied Nos. 1, 3, 9 and 10 and was actually -2 heading to 13. Bogeyed 13 after blocking my tee shot just a bit too far right and then having a "two chip" (DECADE term), and then had a bad three-putt bogey from 30 feet on No. 14 (also a double no-no in DECADE). Another gorgeous morning (albeit a bit steamy!) for golf and it's always great to put together that kind of round. It's fun making birdies. Stuffed a 9 iron on the par three No. 8 hole to within 10 feet. Best par three shot of the year, unfortunately I gave the putt a little too much gas and went through the break for a tap-in par.
