Popular Post Siamese Moose
In recent years due to age and injury my swing had become a mess of band aids and compromises. I've been working with an instructor to build domething sustainable for the long haul, and what I'm now doing is shockingly different. That means I have trouble erasing years of muscle memory, and my scores have been poor due to a few disasters per round. I haven't broken 80 yet this year. Today I only had one really poor hole, and I managed to save double with a great pitch. Throw in 3 birdies and 3 bogies for a 74, and it's the best score I have ever had! We have a good day and even periods where we play well and we have a bad day and periods where we play poorly and wonder why we even play the game. Everyone has gone through this no matter how good of a golfer you are. Popular Post GolfSpy_SHARK
Man what a round. My cousin and I halfed the Match play round from last Thursday so we carried over to this week. Gorgeous day and the course was as always in great shape. The greens were hard to stick and super fast. Super impressed with how my cousin has shaped the course. The first and second cuts around the green were just incredible Overall I was happy with the score result of 41 but disappointed I took as many penalties as I did (3). 2 birdies, 2 pars, 2 bogies and 3 doubles!!!!!! First hole looked like it was gonna be fantastic. Great tee shot middle of the fairway and I ended up skulling my 2nd shot over the green and took a penalty. 2nd hole blocked my tee shot. Took a drop and doubled again after a really great 2nd (technically 3rd after the drop) shot. Best hole of the day was hole 3. Took an easy 3 wood and put a gap wedge to 3’ on by far the hardest green on the course. Made the bird The nest several holes we halved and stayed at down 1 (first hole came around to bite us) until the 8th. I’ll preface with the 2 we were playing against were the pro who’s a good golfer and an 18 years old kid who literally is just amazing to watch play. No flaws in his game. On 8 we both hit good drives opposite sides of the fairway. I hit my 3 wood from the rough and carried the green rolled to the first cut, chipped on made the birdie putt. The kid puts his second shot to 12’ made eagle To win. Was just impressive because he eagled last week too .. was a blast of a round just wish I didn’t take the really bad penalties I did! After missing most fairways and greens and dealing with lightening fast putting surfaces with a smooth 77 yesterday at Camelback Padre with not a single birdie til the 18th (and I had to chip in from 20 yds off the green) I had a nice comeback today . I posted in the play correct tee thread about playing a combo or building your own and I did just that today at the Raven. 6722 is just too long for me with #3 a 459 par 4 in lush conditions with little Rolla nd into a gentle breeze. Ironically I thought I had a birdie as I reached the 443 yd slightly uphill in 2 with a 4 iron and cozied up the 30 footer for a tap in but then was reminded it was just a par 4. Payback came on #12, a 476 yd par 5 I again reached in 2 with a 4 iron from 205 that landed just short, hoped on rolled 15 feet past the hole and I made the putt. Thinking it was another silly long par 4 I commented I needed that birdie after landing in the sand-less bunker on #10 and having to play away from the green only to have my playing pards say "No, that's an Eagle 3, it's a par 5" That was a very pleasant surprise. ... So for my game, 6264 is just too short and as stated above 6722 a little too long so I played 9 holes off the silver and 9 holes off the white for a comfortable but still challenging 6474. The 202 yd par 3 uphill with a deep bunker guarding the entire left side and the pin almost off the left edge of the green, I pushed my 4 iron to the right fringe leaving a double breaking 90 foot putt that ended up 7 feet below the hole and I missed the putt for a bogie and that was all the hole I could ask for. Fair but very difficult. So if your course doesn't have a designated combo on the card, make your own! Yeah, 6700 is pretty much my limit. It's normally not the par 4s and 5s that get me, but long par 3s where I have to hit hybrids or 5w, I'm toast. On 6/9/2021 at 6:58 AM, sirchunksalot said: I mentioned earlier in the Random Thread that today was my first day back at work after summer shutdown and they let us leave early and paid us to do so. I came home, grabbed my bag, and headed out to the course. Played 9 holes and shot a 52. I hit 5/7 fairways, zero greens and had 18 putts. The fairways hit stat is pretty misleading as I couldn't hit a drive over 200 and had lots of weak slices that just happened to not fly far enough to go OB. As bad as driver was, my fairway woods were worse. I topped the daylights out of them, except for one 5 wood that just sailed so beautifully...I think it was an anomaly. My irons were just ok and the only thing I had going for me were my wedges, they were on fire! My putting wasn't up to my usual expectation, the greens were slower than normal and I just couldn't figure them out. Not gonna lie, I'm really frustrated with my game right now. I've worked all winter and spring and just haven't seen results. I hit a few balls afterward on the range and nearly walked off after half a bucket. The best thing to come out of the range session was I figured out my driver. I was getting my hands too high at the top of the backswing and after figuring that out I was striping it. I guess that'll keep me coming back for more. I attempted to take video, and got one good swing. My phone fell down on my second shot. Alf. S
Well it's a real struggle for me at the moment course condition not really suiting my game. Got beat in my matchplay tie 5 and 4 that's me out of all the matchplay events had 85 net 79 on Saturday's comp. Then got beat in the League match yesterday 5 and 4. We have had very little rain in Scotland over the past 3 weeks and the courses are playing firm and fast. Yesterday we also had a +20mph wind. Getting loads of distance just can't get the ball to stop. 9th 140yds to go hit a small PW bounces on the green twice and disappears onto the railway line. Being 4 down at the 304yd 12th, partner in the fairway, smoked one down wind at green through the back into the penalty area. I must have gone through 10 of the 14 matchplay holes with my approach shots. Another 2 I tried to play short and run in and they ended up short. Chipping is also a struggle off tight lies. In the doldrums at the moment maybe need to try and practise knockdown shots because my high ball flight is totally unpredictable. Playing a couple of links courses next week and entering the ballot for the Old Course so hoping for better play. sirchunksalot, MattF, Shapotomous and 5 others 8 Quote WIMB Driver Callaway Epic 10.5' Fujikura Stiff 3W Callaway Epic 15' Fujikura Stiff 3-AW Srixon Z565 Nippon Stiff 52', 56' Cleveland RTX 585 Wedges Putter Taylormade Rosa Daytona Bags 2017 Callaway Org14 Cart bag or 2018 Srixon Z start Carry bag
CarlH
Another 83 yesterday in Round one of the Diamante Classic. Our team came in 3rd in our flight for the round of Better Ball. Didn't pay for the daily payout, but it did pay off for the Player Pool (Calcutta). I had 4 doubles as the wet ground and unfamiliar greens continue to give me some issues. Today's event will be a modified Stableford. Looking for the team to do a bit better. The guys we played with yesterday were on fire and ham and egging it well, shooting a net 63 mainly because the higher handicap player of that team didn't seem to make that many mistakes on the stroke holes. We came in with a net 68 having both of us making a double on one of the holes. Second was a net 65. This is a really nice course, albeit wet from the heavy rains of recent days. Level lies are relatively rare and the greens all have multiple levels and lots of undulations. sirchunksalot, cksurfdude, MattF and 6 others 9 Quote Driver: Rogue ST Max (10.5* set at -1 and neutral) -- Mitsubishi Tensai Blue 55g R shaft Fairway: Rogue ST Max 3 wood (16.5*) and Heaven Wood (20*)-- Tensai Blue 55g R shaft Hybrids: Rogue ST Max 5H (23*)--Tensai Blue 55g R shaft Irons: Apex CF19 6-9, PW, AW -- KBS Tour Graphite TGI 70 shafts R +1/2 inch 3* upright Wedges: Edison 53* and 57* KBS PGI 80 Graphite +1/2 inch 2* upright Putter: L.A.B. ShaunieBoy652
Eastern NC Course Alert!!!! There is an incredible course in Rocky Mount, NC, Belmont GC. Got to play it for the 1st time Sunday, 6/6 and returned 6/8 to get some stink out. Fairways are exceptional and greens very nice (Tifeagle Bermuda). 1st round 4 putted the 1st hole and hit my tee shot OB on #2, those 4 strokes turned a 78 into an 83 :(. Had a couple other, "1st time playing the course" mistakes that I corrected. Tuesday there is "Throwback Tuesday" where the greens fees are much lower, a senior can play for under $30! Sluggo42
Shot a great second 9 after 4 bogies on front 9. Only if I could putt better..... but, I did make one nice long putt for a bird. i would guess my make percentage between 2-10 foot putts to be about 10 - 15 percent... MrBandit
Played a round yesterday evening, it was a get out of the car and in the tee box. So it took a few holes (9) to get going. Now that weather turn from Winter to Hot AF in blink of an eye, ball flight is a lot different now. Drove the ball well, specially in the back 9, Irons were solid, a little long (warmer weather, ball traveling more). Chipping was great after 4-5 holes, getting that feel going, I hit the shots I was trying to hit, so I was happy with that even if they rolled out more than expected and Putting was steady, should have made some putts , but I was happy with the stroke all day. 18th was interesting, as I hit Hybrid of the tee because anything is is too much, trying to keep in the fairway, well I barely got the ball off the ground, it skip from the tee box across the creek and it brushed the tall grass to just run out enough, (of Course this was crucial as I was down 1 at this point in the bets) Some how I snuck in a Birdie and win .. By buddy of course saying that shouldn't count as I barely pass the tee and should have been in the water( good friend I tell you) edingc, cksurfdude, ShaunieBoy652 and 5 others 8 Quote Driver: TaylorMade Qi10 MAX - 8.5 with Fujikura Speeder NX TCS 50 (Terra Forza White Shaft Testing) 3 -Wood: Sub70 949x 3 Wood 15 with Hrdz RDX Black Stiff 5-Wood: Sub70 949x 5 Wood with Hrdz RDX Black stiff 4-Hybrid: Sub70 949x 4 Hybrid with Project X 5.5 Hybrid Stiff Irons: Mizuno Pro 225 - 6-PW , w/Nippon Modus 105 Stiff Wedges: Sub70 TAIII w/Nippon Modus 105 Stiff - 50 ,56, 60 Putter: L.A.B Mezz1, 34 in Balls: MaxFli Tour X, TaylorMade Tour Response, TaylorMade TPx GPS: Shot Scope X5 with Tracking TESTED: SUB70 949X 5 Wood TESTED: NIPPO N.S. Popular Post fozcycle
Front nine was okay, birdie on #3 par 4. Back nine was totally bad, shooting a 42/48:90 today. Also learned that July 31st will be the last day that Pebble Creek GC will be open. Looks like we’ll be playing at Plantation Palms in Land O’Lakes. My driving distance will be about the same. Got disgusted and played a Nitro ball from 13 thru 18. Popular Post Vegan_Golfer_PNW
Shot a 103 in pouring rain. Had 3 pars and 5 bogies. Would have scored better had I not been intentionally using driver on anything but a par 3. Putting also suffered. Greens were super fast and my speed and green reading were super poor. Promising all things said. Started with a par (teed with super hybrid down the pipe) and ended with a par. Popular Post juspoole
Got to play Oyster Reef today for my second and last round while in Hilton Head. Fantastic course and my second favorite thus far of about 6 total courses that I've played in Hilton Head so far. Could not hardly drive it on the planet today. Too many penalty shots or side ways chip outs. Could have been a solid round because my iron play was very good and so was my chipping/pitching. Should have taken more 4 irons off the tee. Greens in regulation look low, but that is because I was having to chip out and play my third from the fairway or in one instance my Fourth due to an OB ball. GIR would have been around 14 or 15 given better drives and about 3 on the fringe. 3 Fairways 9 Greens 34 Putts 40/40 - 80 Rickp, Ben_Howell34, Chip Strokes and 9 others 12 Quote Driver: Mavrik Sub Zero 9* (Set to 10) Ventus Blue 6X 2 Hybrid: TSI3 Hybrid Tensei Blue 80 X (17.25*) 3 Hybrid 818 H2 Hybrid Hzrdus RDX Black 6.5 (20.5*) 4 Iron - T200 4 Iron Graphite Design Tour AD IZ X Hybrid Shaft Irons 5-PW: T100-S 5 - GW KBS Tour 130 X Gap/Sand Wedge: Vokey SM6 49* SM8 54* Lob Wedge: Jaws 5 Wedge 58* DG Tour Issue Stiff Putter: Phantom 5.5 34" Pro Platinum Newport 2 35" Taylormade Tour Black Spider 34"
Popular Post Chip Strokes
checked out a club here in town today. gorgeous track. i hit the ball really well but didn’t score great. i attribute that to a combination of not knowing the course, and not putting well 52/48 for an even hundred. i drove the ball great, but ended up with a bunch of penalties because i had no idea where the trouble was. pulled driver on a dogleg right that i would’ve sworn had enough room. i flew the fairway, the cart path, and watched it bounce in the middle of the parking lot up on to the cart barn roof. still, can’t be mad about how well i hit it. edingc, GolfSpy_SHARK, Tom the Golf Nut and 10 others 11 2 Quote SIM2 8º | KuroKage XD 70TX SIM 3W 14º | Fujikura Atmos Black Tour Spec 9TX SIM2 5W 18º | Fujikura Ventus Black 10X U500 2i | Fujikura Ventus HB Black 10TX T100 4-PW | Dynamic Gold X7 SM6 52* SM8 56* SM8 60* | Dynamic Gold Tour Issue X100 DW | BGT Stability Tour

Popular Post GolfSpy_BNG
Got out this morning for my maiden voyage with my new epic speed and RTX Zipcore full face wedge. The wedge is simply awesome and even after 1 round has found a permanent spot in the bag. The driver was hit and miss but the score was amazing for me. I wasn't paying a huge amount of attention to the score as I was more preoccupied by the results of the driver and wedge. Ended up with a 36/37 +1 73. I noticed I was 2 under going into 16 and finished bogie, bogie, bogie. . I had 4 birdies, 5 bogeys, and missed 3 eagle putts! I drove 2 par 4's with the Epic Speed but was directionally challenge with it for most of the round. The wedge was the star and lead to the great round. sirchunksalot, Curtis Atkinson, GolfSpy_SHARK and 9 others 10 2 Quote What is in my Sun Mountain C-130 bag or Jones MyGolfSpy bag Driver: Dark speed LS 8* set to -1.5* with an Attas Daaas 4x shaft @ 45” Fairway: F85 3 wood with a XPhplexx Agera X @ 42.5” F85 5 wood with a UST Elements Chrome 7F5 @ 41.5" Driving Iron: Rapture 2-Iron Irons: SMS Pros 4-PW with Steelfiber I95s Wedges: SMS 50* T grind with Steelfiber i110s Glide 4.0 46* zz wedge shaft Glide 4.0 E grind 54* zz wedge shaft Putters: Mezz.1 34” 69* lie EV5.1 black 33.5” 69* lie

Popular Post Ben_Howell34
Played 9 at Frank House Municipal in Bessemer, AL today. An absolute goat track, but a great place to take your daughter for her first time on a golf course. Shot a 41 but really wasn’t taking it seriously, just having some fun with my oldest daughter and hoping she catches the bug someday! I did putt about 60 feet for birdie off the green without even lining it up, so that was fun. Popular Post RollingGreens
I finally put together my best round of the year 42/40. Started off the day with a double but after that only bogeys and pars the rest of the way. Driver was great all day. Irons weren’t awesome but they were good enough to give me a chance all day. Wedge play was phenomenal, got up and out of the bunkers with ease! Popular Post DiscipleofPenick
75 this morning. My plans for cancelled twice so I called my home course knowing they had an all day outing starting at 7 AM but the pro said I could play as long as I tees off by 630, I got there at 6 and just went. Moved up to play the whites just to make sure I stayed out of the way. Left the yardage book in the car and range finder in the bag, just went by feel. I wonder if that tells me something... Front was -1 35, could've been lower. Missed 2 birds inside 8 feet and had some wedge shots I could hit closer. The birdie I made was a 40 for bomb though. 4 bogeys on the back. Back 9 plays much tougher and for the most part the whites are only 10-15 yards in front of the black so all the holes play the same way. This was a big confidence boost today. juspoole, Rickp, RollingGreens and 12 others 15 Quote Take Dead Aim Driver: PXG 0211 10.5* Fairway: Titleist 917 F3 15* Hybrid: Adams Idea Pro Boxer Gold 18* Irons: MacGregor MT-86 Pro Wedges: Vokey 50/54/58 Putter: SeeMore X2 Costa del Mar Ball: Srixon Z-Star
