PankaGolf
Stableford today. Played super super aggressive with a fellow 1 handicapper and between us managed 11 birdies and 3 eagles. Still 5 points back off the leader dont think I’ll bother with Comps or medals any longer unless it’s scratch or a low handicap bracket. also started slicing driver and pulling 5 woods after 10 holes. Bit strange will head to a launch monitor try figure out why. fozcycle, cnosil, CarlH and 5 others 8 Quote "C'mon be good"

Rickp
75’, low humidity & slight breeze @ 8:00am. Greens were flat & smooth!! Started off bad with 2 bogies that could have been doubles if not for long rescue putts. 1 birdie helped keep things from getting away for a 40. played the Senior Tees which is now standard for the Wednesday group. This group is the more serious of the group’s I play with and it’s more competitive and has a little “edge” to it. Popular Post GolfSpy BOS
NH boys trip last weekend wen’t really well outside of @Lacassem having to arrive late and depart early. He was missed, but we all know that family comes first, and we’re all glad everyone is OK. We got to play 27 on Friday, and 36 on Saturday. I played decent but not great golf for most of the weekend. First up was the Mount Pleasant Course (9 holes) at Bretton Woods. Shot a pretty unremarkable 42 (+7) with 3 bogeys and 2 doubles. Only 1 one-putt. 4 FW and 4 GIR. Driving was pretty good but I took a few penalties on drives or second shots that just barely made it into trouble. Overall I feel no need to play this course again. For the money it just was not in great shape or that memorable. Second on Friday was the Mount Washington Course (18 holes) at Bretton Woods. This was a really fun but challenging links layout. Wind played a big factor as we were often aiming 20-30 yards left or right of the fairway and playing it off the wind. I ended up with an 87 (+15) hitting 5 FW, 7 GIR, and 2 three-putts to go along with 3 one-putt. I definitely was having an off day with the putter, leaving myself some work on second putts and generally just not seeing the line great. Despite the mediocre play it was a fantastic round with @Lacassem, @StrokerAce, and @ejgaudette! I enjoyed getting to play our little MGS open round and glad we could get everyone together. I did have my highlight hole of the trip during this round: Hit a bomb off the tee that was even past @Lacassem somehow and hit the brand new TSi3 hybrid just short of the elevated green. Chipped in from there for for first eagle of the season! Here’s the final grouping and some other shots of the course (EDIT: I’ll have to go back to fix some of these upside down ones later): Saturday was two rounds at North Conway CC and the first was a lot more of the same. Some good shots, some bad. Putting was a little better but I was still close but missing a lot of what I find to be make able for me. Ended up at 86 (+15). I managed a long drive of the day of 285 yards and short of 91 yards which I think. Beat @StrokerAce in the “shortest drive” competition, and mind didn’t require a tree like his did. It was the second round and final of the trip that I’m most proud of. I still didn’t have my best stuff but shot a 79 (+8) with 11 pars, 1 birdie, 3 bogeys, and 3 doubles. The most impressive part of the day for me was a personal best 8 pars in a row. They weren’t easy either, my putter finally came alive and I started to make some mid-range putts that I hadn’t been making all weekend. I’m also proud of the bounce back birdie after the double that broke up my par streak. That one required a downhill 12 footer for the birdie. North Conway Country Club remains one of my favorite tracks in the area up there. We will be back again next year! Popular Post chisag
... Had an interesting round yesterday in that I struck the ball really well and my swing felt as good as it has recently, but just couldn't score shooting 2 over with 2 birdies and 4 bogies. But I just wanted to talk about 2 of the holes, both par 3's. ... 145yds to a front pin and evidently we were protected from the wind which was gusty all day. Mostly very light winds but every now and then a gust would show up for 10-20 seconds and then disappear. 145 is a perfect 9 iron for me and hit it really well only to watch it fly the green?!? Had to be in the air 165+ and the only explanation is perfect swing/contact accounting for 5-7 extra yards but the wind had to be responsible for the other 15yds. Green slopes back to front with a steep drop off so a difficult blind pitch I left 6 feet short and then missed the putt. ... The other extreme was a 191 par 3 to a back left pin over water, where I tried to hit a 4 hybrid knowing it was probably not enough club but enough to clear the water and leave an uphill putt. Subconsciously knowing I needed to really hit this club as far as possible I over swung and hit a 40 yd slice starting the ball to the right and curving it even further over the trees and into the desert near the next tee box. When I got to my ball the good news was it was sitting in the middle of an unused tee box so I had a perfect lie. Bad news is I had to clear a tall tree and hit my 58* to approximately 70yds to a green/pin I could not even see. As Davis Love III's dad said "never follow a bad shot with a great shot, follow a bad shot with a good shot. So I opened the face a hair and took a good swing hoping to be on the green for a 40 footer or so and save a bogie. Cleared the tree and headed toward where I thought the green was. Turned out much better than I could have hoped ending up 15 feet past the pin. Slightly uphill left to right putt that just climbed over the front of the cup and in for an extremely unlikely par. ... Just goes to show you are always in the hole for every single shot. First par 3 a great swing and perfect contact with an excellent pitch resulted in a bogie while the second par 3 started with my worst swing of the day, a good lw and putt for a par. Clearly the results should have been the opposite but of course GOLF! cnosil, edingc, Shapotomous and 8 others 11 Quote Driver: Qi10 10.5* ... Ventus Red Velocore 5R Fairway: Qi10 5 wood ... Of all of the things I've used to warm up, doing a slightly lighter volume SuperSpeed or Rypstick seems to help the most because it gets the heart rate up a bit. Yeah, what grinds me about them is the way they happened. No. 1 was a cruddy three-putt after three pretty poor shots to open the round. Nos. 7 and 16 I smoked tree branches trying to get back out to the fairway to play to save par/bogey. Wasted shots. At least 13 was a double because I hit the ball out of bounds off the tee. I can sort of live with that. Beginning to realize why Scott Fawcett puts so much emphasis on the "Tiger 5" when you start out his DECADE stuff. If you par the par fives and don't make doubles anywhere, you will eventually shoot a really good score, and your OK scores are still perfectly fine. palvord
Played a quick after work 9 yesterday. Decided to play from the tips because it's a shorter(ish) course. 3100 from the tips for the 9 we played. Shot a 46 with two 3 putts (1st hole and 6th hole) and a triple bogey on 5 due a lost ball, and poor short game. You know my short game is poor when my wife comments on it. I'm happy with how I am hitting the ball for lack of practice time, but the poor short game is really showing. My chipping was really good and that saved me on several holes. Need to figure out how to relax a bit more and be loose in the morning. I get so tight, in my lower body especially, that my swing is not very free flowing and smooth until I get more loose from walking. I started to hit the ball a lot better toward the middle-end of the round, despite the scores. For me I only hit about 10-15 balls just to get feel for my swing, not trying to wear myself or fix anything out before even starting. Yup, that's my strategy, too. 4 balls with wedge, 4 with a mid iron, 4 with my 4 hybrid (three of the first four holes are hybrids from the tee) and 4 with driver. Gives me an idea of what flight I'm going to see and also gets me just loose enough, usually. Today was just rough all around. russtopherb
49/58 for an abysmal 107. The heat and humidity got to me, the back was pretty much all doubles save for one single bogey. Turned my only birdie look into a bogey thanks to a poor read on a downhill putt. Driver started out semi-OK, then a nasty case of the duck hooks showed up before I straightened things out the last few holes. Lost 3 balls due to hitting it too far on a few holes, which is a first for me. One was a layup hole in front of a large water hazard, same club I always hit to the same spot went into the water a good 20 yards further than normal. Nuked a wedge over a green into the brush, and hit an 8i farther than I ever have, which also ended up in the drink. The predicted rain never showed up and we were just soaked thanks to the humid conditions here in MA. But hey - I wasn't in the office and I was out on the course with my son and my brother who's in town from AR, so it was all good. Popular Post Kenny B
With the heat this week, it felt like COVID-19 lockdown all over again. We woke up to cloud cover this morning and mild-ish temperatures. My wife wanted to get out of the house play so we headed to the course. I have been doing my PlaneMate protocols every morning, and I had already done that (140 balls) so I was warmed up. I changed out my Bridgestone irons for my Mizuno MP20 HMB set that I have been using in the protocols. They are starting to feel comfortable... finally. I played from the senior tees in order to give me more opportunities to hit irons instead of hybrids and wedges. Shot 44/35 = 79 with two doubles on the front nine. I started figuring out which club to hit for the yardage and had two bogeys and two birdies for an EVEN par back nine. As an example... my Bridgestone 8i loft is 29º; my Mizuno 8i loft is 36º. I generally picked 1 or 2 clubs more depending on which way the breeze was blowing. I think I'm going to love these irons if I keep hitting them the way I did today. A well-struck ball feels soooooo gooooood!! cnosil, Rickp, MattF and 9 others 12 Quote “We don’t stop playing the game because we get old; we get old because we stop playing the game.”

Popular Post ncwoz
PERSONAL RECORD!!!! After the first time since early spring that I didn't hit a golf ball in over a week, I really wasn't sure what to expect. But league tonight was as good a reason as any to get out - little did I know what I was in for!! 35 (!!!!! EVEN PAR !!!!!, net -5) FIR: 4/6 GIR: 6/9 Putts: 30 (3 1-putts, 6 2-putts) First hole started innocently enough - although I did 2 putt from a tricky ~50ft uphill then downhill first putt. Second hole is a downhill par 3, pin in the front at 152 yards. I hit a full PW and watched it fade back towards the hole...landed pin high and stuck about 2.5 feet from the pin for an easy bird. The next hole, another par 3, I hit the green and left a 15ft putt right in the jaws for a tap in par. On the 5th hole, I had a bit of a swinger from 13ft for bird - left this one short as well, and the line was probably 50/50 if it would have caught the hole with more speed. Another tap in par. The par 5 6th I hit a bomb of a drive, dead center fairway 316yds out. Left me with 184 to a back pin, with my stance kind of below the ball in a low spot in the fairway. Hit maybe my shot of the day, a towering 7 iron fade that stuck almost exactly pin high and held on to the top tier of a severe green, about 20 feet away. Left the eagle putt about 6 inches short, right on line. Tap in birdie! Par 4 15th is a nemesis hole for me. I leaked my 3 iron right into some trees, and tried to punch a low shot through a wide but short window I had. Hit a tree and got a very lucky break and it bounced right out to the fairway. Hit a tidy little 100yd wedge to about 20 feet, 2 putted for the first bogey of the day. Par 4 16th I hit a really nice 4 iron to the right side of the fairway. Downhill lie and wasn't sure what the wind was doing - on the previous hole it was dead into and this hole is in the same direction. Except the flag was saying it was all right to left, barely any hurt. I wasn't really confident in the shot, and ended up pulling it left of the green to a bunker that actually sits a good 3-4 feet above the green. I was in the back of the bunker with a downhill lie with almost no green to work with, and left the first shot in the bunker. Left a more even stance, and I missed holing it out to save par by about 2 inches. Tap in bogey to get me back to even. At this point, I'm definitely thinking about how I'm even par, but trying really hard not to let it affect my game. Not sure how successful I was My heart was definitely racing much more than it typically does! The 17th is 125 yard par 3, but the wind is always tricky. I thought there was more help than there was, and left it on the front fringe to a back pin. Chipped past the hole for a knee knocking 7 footer...dead center of the cup! On the 18th I snagged my 2 hybrid and let it rip before thinking too much about it - hit a gorgeous fade to the right center of the fairway, leaving me with 105yds to a front pin. I hit an abbreviated SW (typically 115 club), expecting it to get to the 105 number pretty reliably, and somehow launched it 125 yards. Adrenaline much? So I was left with a snaking 60 foot putt that I needed to get down in 2 to stay at even par for the first time ever. Hit the speed great, but left myself 4 or 5 feet to get the par. And let me tell you, that hole had a heck of a catch Soo pumped up!! I've never hit the ball for an entire 9 holes as well as I did tonight. The pulled wedge was really the only not great shot I had, then a couple decent ones and a lot of really good ones. I was rolling my putts on line super well, and lagged it great. I could probably do the woulda coulda shoulda game with some of the putts I left short, but I'm honestly way too pumped to let that sour my night! cnosil, Curtis Atkinson, sirchunksalot and 21 others 16 8 Quote Right Handed Driver: 9° Speedzone (HZRDUS Smoke Green 70g X-Stiff shaft) 2 Hybrid: 18° Exotics EXS Pro (Evenflow Black 6.5) (2020 MGS Official Review here) 3/Driving Iron: 18° UiHi Iron (MMT Utility TX 105g shaft) Irons: 4-GW T100 irons (Nippon Modus 120 X-Stiff shafts) (2021 MGS Official Review here) Wedges: 54° & 58° TSW Forged (Dynamic Gold S300) Putter: ER2B (2019 MGS Official Review here) Ball: MAXFLI Tour X Bag: Hoofer Lite WITB thread here

Popular Post chisag
... Well, I finally did it after so many inadvertent tries. 18 straight pars today. It was a little different as I tried to hit the middle of the green regardless of distance or pin location. And it was veeeeeeeery tempting to go right at several very accessible flags but I stuck to my middle of the green plan. ... What was a little amusing was the few times there was a flag right in the middle of the green and I could go right at it, I was like a 16yr old on a first date trying to negotiate the clasps on a cheerleaders bra. Just a little too excited and either pulled or pushed the shot a little leaving a longer putt than I should have had. But I did learn a few things. If you are swinging well, it is really pretty easy to hit the center of every green. Since there is so much room for error, I think it frees you up mentally to take good swings without worrying about short siding myself or being short/long. I have played many rounds mostly hitting to the center of the green but if there was a green light flag, I would always go right at the flag. So just smart golf and pick my spots to be aggressive. ... The other thing I learned is it is actually pretty dammed boring to hit every green if you aren't getting any short makable birdie putts. (I did miss 2 greens by a few feet and was able to putt both) There is something very intoxicating about hitting an iron right at a pin and pulling it off for a tap in birdie. No such intoxication hitting the ball exactly where you are aiming if it leaves a 15-30 foot putt again and again. I played with 2 young big hitters in their early 30's that thought I was the most boring golfer they had ever played with. LOL, I would have to agree with them and they both didn't break 90 but had several birdies and just missed out on an an eagle but also several "others" when their 300+ yd drives could not stay on the property. Maybe next round I go right at every flag regardless of where it is and see how much worse my score will be. At least it will be more fun... edingc, Ben_Howell34, Shapotomous and 21 others 17 5 2 Quote Driver: Qi10 10.5* ... Ventus Red Velocore 5R Fairway: Qi10 5 wood ...
