Shankster
Started me on 10, worked our way through the back. Then the starter put us on 4, then looped us back around…. I had been hitting the driver terrible all day. My wife must have noticed, she’s never been out with me before… I came to hole 1 and she said, NO! When I pulled the head cover off the driver. She said hit the 3 wood… then this happened. Don’t mind the chunked 58°, I took an Alaska sized divot, I didn’t realize how soft it was where my ball ended up. Popular Post Peaksy68
A bit of a return to form after a few less than stellar rounds. Playing off 10 as a result of my recent struggles, 8 over 79, with 3 doubles and 3 birdies. My good was extremely good, my bad was extremely bad. Greens were very fast and most pins were in borderline unreasonable positions, several putts that rolled past at holing speed finished 10 feet from the hole. Drove it solid, irons (apart from 3 atrocious swings) were about as good as I can do, chipped it ok, putted either very well or poorly. Highlights were an 8 iron to 3 feet from 136 yards and holing a 40 foot putt that broke 6 feet for a par after 2 very ordinary shots on a par 3. tony@CIC, ParFore74x, sirchunksalot and 7 others 10 Quote 849 Pro Evenflow Riptide 6.0 F8 3 & 5 Woods Project X Evenflow Blue 6.0 TS2 7 Wood Project X Evenflow Blue 6.0 MP18 MMC - Project X LZ 5.5 Zipcore Wedges 50,54,58 - Project X LZ 5.5 MLA Tour Mallet 33" Z Star Pioneer bag buggy
Popular Post Curtis Atkinson
I've actually been playing pretty well as of late. Realized that including yesterday's round, my handicap scores all come from my last 14 rounds, including the last 4 straight. Got out first by myself yesterday and had a quick little 2 hour 45 minute round to kick off the day, which is always great. 47/43 = 90 (+18) 5/14 FIR (36%) 8/18 GIR (44%) [6 of last 8] 41 putts (1 4-putt, 4 3-putts, 12 2-putts, 1 1-putt) "Highlight": My previous two rounds I shot 91 both times with a 10 on #5 both times. The hole is just a nightmare par 5 with a tricky tee shot and then narrow fairway with danger on both sides. Goal this time was to not card a 10 and made it through with a tidy 6! Room to improve: Something I realized about midway through the round is that I may need to get SLIGHTLY more aggressive going after pins. Especially on these courses where the greens are HUGE compared to other courses I've been playing. Previously I could play for the middle of each green and be left with a decent putt. Here there are some greens where if the flag is tucked deep one side, and I play for my miss on the other but hit it well, I could be left with a 50 yard putt. On the back 9 I started trying to make adjustments to still play to the bigger areas of the green, but trust more my ability to get somewhat close and saw that paying off. Not only could that lead to more misses but could mess with your mental game if you aren’t keeping good expectations. Especially if you are hitting longer clubs into greens, your dispersion circle will be higher. I’d personally rather have a 80ft putt as a GIR than a 10yrd bunker shot to the pin. Good score BTW. Popular Post russtopherb
Played Acushnet River Valley today, 50/48 for a 98. Very last minute round, did one of those right from the car to the first tee things. I'm disappointed that my driver work on the range isn't translating to the course. I was stubborn and kept thinking that it would come around. Spoiler alert - it didn't. 3 penalties. Yuck. It was pointed out that I'm still coming in steep and moving forward in the downswing. More range work needed and I really need to just suck it up and go with 4w or Heavenwood off the tee when the driver isn't cooperating. Averaged 2.2 putts per hole. On the good side - my irons got better as the round went on and I saw for the third round in a row that my distance has increased. Now, of course that realization comes when I'm over the green, in the drink when I thought I'd be short, or through the fairway into the rough. But it looks like I need to walk a practice round or two to dial things in. I guess that Beachbody over the winter while quarantining actually worked? Maybe? My buddy who I play a lot with mentioned multiple times how much higher and further I've been hitting irons. Had one solid par and should have birdied the next hole but I tightened up on a downhill putt and barely tapped it. We also played from the blues which was a first for me there, and adds a little over 600 yards to the course vs the whites. On the best side - got to see a friend that I've known since middle school but haven't seen in nearly 20 years. Yeah the whole Facebook thing of seeing pics of each other's kids is cool, but there's nothing like busting on each other in person for the first time in decades. Popular Post Ben_Howell34
Played at Bent Brook (graveyard/brook) in Bessemer yesterday, shot an 88 but honestly played worse than that, 46/42. No birdies, lotta bogies. Drove ok, had a few great drives but a few big misses too. Had an eagle putt on a par 5 and 3 putted lag putting was way off, which is usually a stronger suit of mine. Chipping was rough as usual. Approaches weren’t bad, just inconsistent. Actually hit two nice iron shots on tough par 3s that hit, bounced once and spun back a few feet, which is abnormal for me. I have never taken lessons but I think I’m about to take the plunge. Need something to lean on and stick with, especially in the short game. Had a fun day playing with some good golfers though, both ex college players who are in their mid 50s-early 60s. My playing partner shot even par which was fun to see. Popular Post cksurfdude
Played 9 this afternoon from the very friendly forward Senior tees... Started off playing for bogey first two holes after not great tee shots yet managed to turn those holes into doubles with silly 3 putts... I feel like I putted the ball on, or really close to, my intended line and the speed was good but my reads seemed way off... Next string of holes had one or two pars and several bogeys .. ok, not bad .. but mixed in another double after slicing the tee shot right. Putting woes kinda kept popping up, too... Finished, unfortunately, with a bit of a meltdown double-par quad after splashing not once but *twice*... So not great scoring but I'm actually satisfied with most of my play as I'm starting to hit a few more tee shots .. and importantly second shots .. each time out. Gotta get my putting figured out, though - I've had plenty of rounds where I've been able to 2-putt / avoid 3-putts on almost every hole - hmmmmmm...... cnosil, GolfSpy_SHARK, Curtis Atkinson and 11 others 14 Quote WITB of an "aspiring" play-ah ... Way to get over your nemesis hole! Oh for sure. For the record I'm not going to be out there firing at pins like Tiger on Sunday. More that instead of mindlessly aiming for the center of the green every time, taking a look at location and picking a target that's at a large area that might be closer to the pin, especially from tighter in. For instance one green is 79 yards deep and has spots where it narrows and widens along it. Rather than just hit for the middle if the pin is all the way up front, I'll aim for the middle part of that front portion. Only redeeming factor was I had good company with @Jmikecpa The company was certainly better than the golf. I actually hit it better than I thought I would after the layoff. Popular Post edingc
- 41/46 = 87 / 85 ESC (+15) - 3/15 FIR - 6/18 GIR (1 birdie) - 33 Putts (4 3-putts, 7 2-putts, 7 1-putts) Frustrating morning. Still hitting the ball really well, but a couple fluke blow-up holes are killing the scores lately. I played 13 holes at +4 and the remaining five at +11, highlighted by a quadruple bogey on No. 16. Lost another ball just a few yards off the fairway leading to a triple - cons of playing by myself, I suppose. Chipping and putting was good for the most part. They had a "Greenskeeper's Revenge" type scramble yesterday and the pins were all cut in very tough places. Also got the AutoFlex/Epic Max LS combination out and did pretty well with a handful of drives out to 280 or longer. Tried the AVX, @Shankster, and hit a couple bombs with it. I really liked the hit and stop on the greens, but I’d like a little more height out of it. I played it exclusively a couple years ago, so I’ll keep giving it a try. Noooooo!!! Save yourself! Don't give in to the Dark Side!
