How'd you play?

Played a US AM Tournament today. One of my worse putting days.. 40 putts and 3 putted last 3 holes and 4 putted the par 5 which i hit 2 beautiful shots to get on in 2. 

Just never had any real feel for the greens. I just couldn't hit them hard enough even when i thought i killed it was 4-5ft short.

I minimized the mistake to just bogeys.

The course is tight with alot of OB but managed to get around. 

Somehow i came in second with that putting display.

Shot a horrible 49/43:92 this morning at Plantation Palms GC, soon to be my new golf home.  I did, however, get @ birdie on hole #13, 288 yard par 4.

Had the opportunity to play Black Creek golf course in Chattanooga today. @TBSand I along with some other buddies are up here as we are playing Sweetens Cove tomorrow!

At Black Creek today, I shot on me of my best rounds ever! 

74 37/37 3 birdies and 1 eagle, 11 /14 FIRs, 7 GIRs - I had my driver and short game working today! Had 5 up and downs and 29 putts.
 

Black Creek was an awesome course with mountain views surrounding it. A ton of unique holes with blind shots, elevation changes, and tough green complexes. One of my favorite holes was hole 6, a par 5, 562 yards. If you hit a good tee shot, you had a chance to go for the green in 2. Only issue is it’s a blind elevated shot. If you clear the hill, the fairway funnels down to a punchbowl green.

It was a great course with classic hole designs. Multiple redans and bearritz. True risk reward holes. Absolutely loved it. 
 

Didn’t play great. Started off strong but hit a few OB in the middle stretch and wasn’t mentally tough to keep battling. Found it again on the back though. 
 

89 46/43, 8 GIR, 7 FIR (6!! Penalties)

take away the penalties and it was easily a low 80s round.

Solid round overall. Driver was not spectacular though and closed out the round with three-straight bogeys. 

Sunday

- 36 (E)
- 3/8 FIR
- 6/9 GIR (1 birdie)
- 15 Putts (6 2-putts, 3 1-putts)

Much better driving round this morning. Putter and short game were both excellent as well, which allowed me to save a couple pars. 

Feeling pretty good about my swing at the moment!

Golf gods giveth, golf gods taketh away. Played a nine hole muni. 54!  Ugh. Nothing was working. Lost more balls  today than my last 18 hole round. Back to the grind again. Golf is such a fickle game.

Shot my best round in a long time, and I think my second best round of my life…

38 / 37 - 75… my home course is tough (that’s a 1.3 differential) and 18 was playing 440 into the wind (I went driver, 3w and missed my par putt)… no real dramatics… consistently was near the green and had a par putt on every hole but the one I made birdie… was -1.5 strokes gained putting.

im really, really happy with where my game is right now… of course I have irons on order and am headed out of town for 2 weeks… we will see what the game looks like In august!

Played at home but it wasn't golf. 6+ inches of rain this past week. Didn't keep score hit the ball pretty well, legit birdie on 18. Lost 5 balls just because of plugs in the rough.

Overall pretty happy with todays round.  Ball striking was solid;  putting could have been a little better.  Feel like I am making good progress with my full and short game swings.   Not sure what is going on with the putting,  thinking it is mental lapses regarding how to swing the putter which causes me to hit horrible putts.

So my plans to play three rounds in Myrtle Beach last week didn't work out very well. Went to play with Bid Stu on Monday. Got to the course and the rain came down for 20 minutes. Once it stopped the sun came out but the owners decided to close the course. So Big Stu and I chatted for a while but never got to play. 

Tuesday my resort got me a tee time at Beachwood at a discounted rate. The course wasn't up to MB standards in my opinion. Bare spots on tee boxes, crab grass in fairways, compacted sand traps. I played back a set of tees to play with the group I was paired with. Had a tough time with the thicker humidity and being at sea level and was short a lot on approaches. No matterhowmany timesitold myself to club up one, i didn't listen to myself. Wound up with an 80.  But met a bunch of nice guys and had a good time. 

Thursday was going to go back down and play with Big Stu but teen drama struck. I had to stick around and keep the girls in check. They met some boys and one of our chaperones left Thursday morning. Headed back to TN Friday morning.

Got to play my home course today. Three bogies and four birdies for a 70. Back on track. Hit 100 percent of the fairways.

The few times I've been to Myrtle Beach, that struck me too. Not like Ohio is high elevation, but the difference is just enough to cause problems.

We have 2 now grown daughters and 3 teenage granddaughters (19,17 &16) so We know the ALL about the Drama

Started out OK today with a 39 on the front nine (+2); 3 bogeys and a birdie.  The birdie was a chip-in on the par 3 #8 playing 203 yards.  Miffed that the bogeys all came on the 3 par 5's.  However, I did manage a par on the par 4 #7.  Green is 40 yards deep... pin in the back and I was on the front... 100 foot putt to a foot from the hole.  

Wheels fell off on the back nine; triple bogey on the par 3 #12... plugged lie in bunker under the lip; followed by a double on the par 4 #16 from just poor ball striking.     I managed to birdie the par 3 #17 and par my nemesis hole #18... so a 41 on the back nine and a round of 80.

It got hot towards the end of the round; 97º and the humidity was unusually high at 60%.

Played a course yesterday that I had never played before in Norman, Ok. Short (6200 from the tips), fun and green, Westwood Park is a great place to play if you're in the area as it requires you to think pretty hard throughout each hole.  I thoroughly enjoyed it and hit the ball great.  Even though I only shot 83 I managed my way around the course well and didn't have a single penalty! One of my goals for this next year is to play in the Washita Valley Invitational next July.  In order to do that my game and headspace needs some serious work.

 I usually average at least 2 penalties even in my best round and yesterday, I didn't have ANY! Plus I made a 30 ft bomb on 18 the play the last 4 at -1.  I will be coming back to that course!

Took my step-father-in-law out for a round to celebrate his birthday yesterday. 32°, in England!!!

Shot my best score yet, gross 84. Including a birdie on the SI 1 - 14th. 260y hybrid, easy 165y uphill 7i, 18" tap in. I've never scored less than 5

Hit 3 of 4 par 3's too. 

A few, silly, dropped shots and an OB on 18 - starting to feel like I can play this game

And speaking of that, I will now recount my tale of disgust from the weekend...

I played my usual Friday afternoon round with mi amigos.  Doubled one hole with a three putt, bogeyed the last after missing a reasonably straightforward putt, for a 77.  This is par 71, but it's rated 69.0/122, so it's essentially playing to my 7.x index.

Afterwards, I commented how this was getting to be a recurring theme.  Seven of my best eight scores in GHIN are 77 or 78.  Of course, my buddies give me considerable crap for this, as buddies do, LOL.  Felt like I was maybe turning a corner, if I could eliminate the whiskey tango foxtrots in my rounds, maybe I could nudge that a bit better.

The golf gods were listening.  Saturday and Sunday was the Member-Member two man event in the Men's Club.  Saturday, I shot a scintillating 84, including a 30 degrees to the right blocked tee shot into OB Land.  Sunday, I shot a crowd pleasing 89, that was adjusted to 87 for posting purposes.

Yes, the golf gods hath spoken.  

I must now lay a burnt offering of old tees and cart path scuffed golf balls at the altar of the golf gods to seek their forgiveness...

I recently had been struggling with my driver, so I added lead tape and it really helped me square up the face. I am still adjusting to playing a fade, but this weekend it started feeling more natural and my ball striking really improved from the confidence. I just had 4 blow up holes, where I just can not commit to a target, and the penalties really added up. It gets discouraging seeing the handicap rise, but I am confident that I am really close to breaking through.  Anyways, the round had a lot of positives, and really good learning moments. This week on the practice areas I am really going to work on picking a target, committing to it, and then executing the shot.

I recently did the same with my D7 and it's really helped out a lot. Well, at the range at least! My last round the driving started out good but went downhill... but starting good was a change because it's been starting bad right from the first tee box. Glad to hear your confidence is going up with the big stick!

Oh yeah, it took me a couple range sessions and a couple rounds for my FIR to go back up above 60%. Getting off to a good start is very promising, and I’m sure in time the rest of the round will improve shortly.

Monday morning Exec 9 at course next to our house.  Friday saw the crew too dressing the greens and hoped it wouldn’t be too bad….wrong, greens were horrible.  
I was hitting the ball pretty good but putting was ridiculous.  Figured I would work on Tempo so all was not lost.

Went back to NY middle of last week to play some golf at my club on Long Island.  Figured since I am paying for it I may as well get a few more rounds in (up to 6 for the year).  Played 9 on Thursday since the course was packed and I am impatient but was 3 under on the 9 that I played.  Went out on Saturday and had it to two under through 17 and promptly doubled 18 for even par.  Had a massive brain fart with a PW on 18 and blocked it high right into the pond that should never be in play then hit a terrible pitch shot to go along with a craptastic first putt.  

Yesterday was the annual pro member where three members play with the pro for a best two of four net round.  I have to say I may have watched our pro play one of the best rounds of golf I have ever seen in person.  Made 10 birds, two bogies and six pars for a round of 64.  He made his two bogies on 1 and 2 then played the rest of the round in -10.  I made five birds and an eagle to shoot apparently a ho hum 68.  Taking a few days off this week then back to playing later in the week at my new club in VA.

Oh and for fun two of the birds I made were on par 3's that I was actually giving a shot back so I made a 2 for a net 3.  Our pro was allowed to play off of scratch and well he is a hell of a lot better than I am.

I'm glad you were able to meet @BIG STU, I can only imagine the stories both of y'all told. I do hate you weren't able to play a round together, I bet that would have been a blast! It's one of my goals to make it out to SC, as I'd love to meet both Stu and @JohnSmalls. Don't know when it'll happen, but I'm bound and determined to.

I'm glad you made it home safely and it sounds like you had a pretty good time, too. Well, except for the teen drama.

Bay Harbor round from yesterday.  My dad and I did a scramble to make the round not last 6 years.

The front 9, we used all of my shots… +5, parkland course

The back 9, we used all but 3 of my shots, -2, faux links.  Lots of 3 iron off the tee.  The one time I used my 3 wood, I hit it too far, and it went into Lake Michigan… the other two were my last name… wedges again, 85° sideways, no idea what that crap was all about.  Luckily those just happened to be my dads best shots of the day.
