How'd you play?

Second day of 3 vacation rounds was today at Whispering Pines CC in Whispering Pines, NC on the Pines course. Played the white tees to about 6400 yards. Started well. Was 1 under through 5, then 6 over through 12. There was a stretch where I was unfamiliar with the course, and while my playing partners tried to give me advice, I think they may have made it worse. I eventually tuned them out a little and played what I thought was right. Two more birdies and one bogey later I finished 5 over 77. Didn't hit as many greens or fairways as yesterday, but with only 27 putts, I made up for my mistakes. Overall, I'm playing pretty good.

When my wife asked if I wanted to leave Maine and move to where she grew up, I couldn't say no to Pinehurst, NC. I honestly don't spend much money on golf equipment, but I'm constantly reading reviews in case I ever get ready to buy

I swing left handed and have been the State of Maine Left Hander's champion since 1997, the last year they held the tournament. I'm currently a 7.1 handicap. Trying to get lower, but my gut gets in the way.

I played like s**t tonight on league. I shot 49 for 9 holes. I don't want to use this as an excuse but, my head isn't in golf right now. I have to put my buddy of 14.5 years down on Friday. It's killing me.

League last night was a very nice 40 (+4), net 1 under. However, it could have easily been a fantastic round, with two back to back tee shots that always cause me trouble. Back to back water balls led to a bogey and a triple bogey.

I did birdie 3 holes though, which I'm almost certain is a first over 9 holes for me! The putter has been hot the last few rounds

Played Los Serranos Country Club yesterday after a friendly match play tournament on the same course over the weekend. I was 3 down going into 16 and won the last 3 holes to tie the match. Unfortunately my team lost in points but overall fun.

Yesterday I played the same course but from the white tees (blues for tournament) and shot a 91. I started with 3 pars in a row then fell apart and made some bad choices. Trees did not show me ANY love as most of my blow up holes were due to tree interference with just bad breaks. Had 7 pars but the bad holes just added up. Still the best score I have had with the new irons which is a good sign as it means I have finally broken in the new clubs. On the range, the 699 Pro's are consistently shorter than my Mavrik's but on the course they are pretty much the same distance sometimes longer!

image.png.f0d929bc0c69f194b5a20f45c464266e.png

Oh and the driving is definitely back. Driving consistency was off for a bit after getting the new irons and realized it was because I was swaying in the back swing again. I was trying too hard to hit the irons well and it threw off my driver swing and everything else with it. But now that I am back look at this bomb. Ok ok so it took the cart path and probably rolled a good 100 yards but still a great drive.

Played a couple days ago, shot 41/41=82 (+10), 7-pars, 2-birdies, 6-bogeys, 3-doubles; 3/14 Fairways, 7/18 GIR, 15/17=32 putts (2-3putts, 10-2putts, 6-1putts)

Shot of the day was an 8-iron from 175, landed 2 feet past the pin and spun back 1 foot past the hole...it had to have taken a peek.  The other birdie came on a par-5, on in 3 from 195 out, 2-putt birdie.  I hit the ball well, and had the feeling that this would be the day that I would break 80, but it just didn't happen...clean up those doubles and it's a 79.  It's gonna happen!  The bogey on #6 felt like a birdie...I hit a great drive to a wide open space (desert) left of the fairway, but couldn't find my ball...took a 2 stroke penalty drop, hit it on the green and drained a 35 footer for the bogey.

Played a VERY tough course today for the first time. Shot a +10 82…

just didn’t strike it well on the front and couldn’t get much going. Figured it out on the back though!

So the game is starting to come around.  Had my 2nd consecutive week in the 80's yesterday, but barely with an 89.  It was a weird round, I started-Quad, Double and finished with a triple, on the second easiest hole on the course.   So for 3 holes, I was 9 over par.   The remaining 15 holes, I played in 8 over.   Really solid golf with no worse than a bogey during that stretch.  Including a par on the toughest par 4 on the course...So I hack up the easiest and walk off with a par on the hardest....That's golf.

Driving was just ok, certainly not great but nothing that hurt me too bad, save for an OB on my very first swing of the day.  Putting was solid but not spectacular, just one miss inside 5 feet, and it was for birdie on the CTP I hit.  But didn't make anything of significance outside 8 to 10 feet.

The one lengths continue to shine.  I would say my iron play is the best it's been in years.

Overall pleased with where the game is and headed, still dont' have my full strength back, but feel better than I did two months ago for sure.

Played the Toughest Exec 9 around.  It’s universally hated.  Guys drop out when they see this course come up on the Request.  80* and verrry humid.  I didn’t play that badly, lost one ball that was an off line Tee shot and caught the water.
shot +5 with a birdie on 9th hole.  Scared the pin on 2 holes for HOI and converted only 1 of those putts.  The Driver is really happening right now, hope it keeps up.

Good to hear that the TSI is still working for ya!!

Final 18 of my vacation. Played Foxfire Grey course. Started swimmingly with a double. No penalty just batted around. This round was a clinic in getting up and down. I was 4 over after 3 but finished 6 over. The numbers are really crazy. I hit 5 greens and 6 fairways. I lost some trust in my swing and it showed. The fade was there but started off line so it made it hard and the pull hooks came back. I need to be more conscious when I’m on the tee

Possibly that and definitely for taller golfers (which I am) as it definitely helps my posture on the shorter irons.  I haven't found there to be any issue with controlling the distance on those either.   Boy do these irons fly high!

I played with an 86 year old yesterday who has some graphite Rapture irons.   He asked to hit my 7 iron on a par 3.  He loved the height he got with it and the distance, he said it was about 2 clubs longer than his Rapture.   Which considering those are 20 years old, I'm sure the lofts are about2 clubs different--just mentioning it before the loft police come along to decry the modern lofts...ha

I have mentioned previously how well these hold on the greens.   Matter of fact I hit the green on one of the par 3's and it had so much spin, it spun off the green, through the rough, and over some rocks into a pond.

Really good things to say about these irons.

Played old waverly today in MS with a couple of work buddies, played a little hookey. Course is in immaculate shape and the greens are pure and fast.

Played pretty badly, shot 95 (48/47) which is my worst round in over 2 years. Funny thing is only missed 4 fairways, but iron play was worst I can remember. Shanked 7-8 iron shots right and the rest I pulled left. I think I only hit one green. Lotta double bogeys. Putted well as I had no three putts and quite a few up and downs, but a lot for bogey which is disappointing. Got a couple of vacation golf rounds lined up in the next couple months but besides that probably gonna hold off playing till I’m able to get a couple lessons. Just in the desert in terms of fairway/iron play and I need some guidance.

Even with my play and the brutal humidity and heat, was a great day to get away from work and enjoy a great course.

Snuck out for an evening 18 with Dad and had a really great night.  80 and sunny with some breeze and I hit some good, some meh.  It was a pretty unremarkable round, few big misses just a lot of average.

One of the highlights was the one video I took, a driver swing.  Well, what's so special about that?  I was so happy to see the result of where the ball ended up but the downswing was everything I've been working on for two years; a clubhead and shaft that's truly on plane.

40/41 - 29 putts - 3 fairways (deceiving because I drove through one green, through 3 dogleg fairways so not a terrible driving day) and 10/18 greens.

I'm trending upwards and that's OK.  Days of shooting 73/74 are in my rearview...and to be honest, it's kind of cool to just accept it and play, regardless of what I shoot.

99.9% is the game right there. Score is great but enjoying the game is what it’s all about.

You have any specs on them yet Rob?  That T200 2 iron I’m seeing around the web has my attention.

I’ve seen all the specs.  But unfortunately my eidetic memory failed me.  Ha

I think it’s around 17 degrees.  I think JT played it and had it bent to a degree stronger or something like that at the Open.
