Knock those doubles to singles and then you’ll be working on bringing the bogies to pars. 
At least that’s what I try to do. 3 birds in 9 holes is pretty good!

Got called to play Wolf at the other course in town today; hot and humid!!

I wasn't the big loser, but I did lose 3 of my 4 Wolf attempts.  Two of them were my fault; poor chips and missed par putts.  The other I lost to a guy who chipped in for birdie on a par 3.

I managed to shoot 82... 42/40 which wasn't bad; all of the greens on the front nine had dew on them, and getting the speed and line synced up was impossible.  Good day with the driver; poor day short game and putting.

Best way to categorize today was: FIGHT 

I didn’t strike it that bad and kept it in play but just ended up in some bad places with no chance to score well. Had four 1 putts but no birdies… rough day but I fought it hard to get the 85.

Played pretty well Monday, but had two horrendous holes.

Par 5 8th I was about 65 yards away in 2. For some reason I decided to try a shot that wasn’t called for, a punched 7 iron. No sensible reason, I just thought it would be cool to try.

Not so much, it turned out. I shanked it into the worst spot possible, right up against the 3” lip of a waste area. I smashed a wedge straight into it, and the ball flew out low and hot, over the green and into the woods behind it. Ended up with an 8.

Then on the par 3 17th, my tee shot came up 10 yards short of the green and on the edge of a red staked area that is in front (or so I thought). I played what I thought was my ball, hitting a nice chip on to the green. When I picked it up to clean it I realized it was a Titleist Pro V, not the Velocity I was playing… oops.

That killed my round as far as having a chance to win any money, but all in all I played well. Things are continuing to trend upward finally. I really feel like I’m on the verge of breaking out.

I was looking forward to league today (Tuesday) but heavy rain washed us out.  It would’ve been a fun day. I was paired with 3 nice guys, and was really looking forward to it. The forecast is bad for the rest of this week, looks like no golf until Saturday.

Played last week down in the HOT AF Florida, on some really nice courses, Besides my putting which I struggle with speed of the greens, felt I couldn't hit those putts hard enough, but driving and chipping was pretty consistent.

Played 18 yesterday with the wife.  We were paired with a gent who plays one of the senior leagues there, he is a splendid person.  

Had two or three penalty strokes (one OB), wound up with four doubles.  And shot an 81 (+10).  Biffed a couple birdie putts, as well.

What could have been...

Amusingly, my tablet's autocorrect doesn't like my using the word "biffed," LOL

I cancelled my round this morning, much to the dismay of my die-hard playing partner.  The air quality index is in the "unhealthy" zone due to all the mega-fires surrounding our area.  I saw no need to go out in that crap.

Yeah, we had the 113-118º days in late June.  No fun!

We have been around 105º the last few days, but with the smoke from fires, it's holding in the humidity.  Normally at 105º we are around 15-20% humidity; now we are 60-70% which is awful at that temperature.  I was a wet mess when we finished our round yesterday at noon.

Was absolutely pounding the ball last night... shot 39 with 2 birdies... my lowest this season

Last night in league was near-perfect weather and my opponent was my good friend @Michael Wolff. We are both a 7 HC in league and we were playing the harder of the two nines. We were also neck-and-neck for our league MVP with only a few weeks remaining. I ended up with 6 pars, a bogey, and two stinkin' doubles for a 41. He had a birdie, 3 pars, 3 bogies, and 2 stinkin' doubles for a 42. It was a very close match and we were tied when we stepped up to the 18th tee after I doubled 17. 17 is a par 3 - I pulled my tee shot and left myself short-sided (why does that always happen?!?!?). It was a very difficult, uphill chip with the green running away from me - the primary goal was just getting it (and keeping it) on the green. I had about 30' for par and left it about 3 feet short. Rather than waiting, I decided to just ram it in and MISSED. Mike even tried to warn me by saying "take your time", but I'm too stubborn. So I took some frustration to 18 tee....

OK, so I got a good bounce off the cart path. Mike was in decent position off the tee but hit his second a bit fat, ending up short/right, so I pretty sure a par would win it for me. Good thing, since the greens weren't holding and I ran my chip about 15 feet past the hole.

Anyway, it was a really fun night.

So I didn't post after my round this weekend, but I guess now is as good as a time as any after last night's league sub performance.

So Saturday was just an incredible round of putting the ball. 28 total putts to get around and a great bit of scrambling led me to beat my 75 goal after my 77 with a 74, 37/37 (+2/E). In all honesty it could have been better on the back, I just missed birdie putts on 12 and 15 and lipped out on 13. I could have been four under standing on 16 tee, but as well as I rolled the rock from distance and making some putts that were outside usual make range, I wasn't going to complain. What I did do was apologize to the guy I was subbing with yesterday during that round saying there was no way I could carry it over...

Well, about that. Yesterday went out and shot a nice little 36 (+1). Key club on this day was driver. It was a warm one in CNY yesterday (just ask my polo and shorts I sweat through on the walk) but I had two drives over 270, which for me is a good day of driving it, both led to almost birdies that were routine pars. Also, won the 3 points afforded in the match with no handicap against a guy I was giving 13 shots to, so super pumped about that.

Playing again on Saturday, we'll see if we can keep it going because right now it feels pretty good to be me.

Thanks man, it just feels like everything is going well. I honestly haven't felt like I was playing this well for almost a decade since I stopped getting out more often. Feels like this could be a breakthrough bit for me that I hopefully don't recede from.

Ha well now I know what you mean after having experienced that directly for myself the other day ... ie. I usually make doubles after Terrible tee shots!

Played 18 (walking with relatively moderate temps and humidity that day) and readers of this thread have heard me gripe more than once about my tee shot troubles .. well... I finally have some good news to report!

Hit 15 / 18 tee shots solidly and *generally* in the right direction, too - the three misses were all different (of course): sliced one right (into the lake), pull-hooked one left (waaay left), and topped one (6i on a short Par 4, sheesh). So hopefully hopefully hopefully this is the start of a new uptrend in my game!

A lot of my second shots were pretty good also .. well at least until the middle of the back 9 when I seemed to fade a bit and get sloppy with two blow-up holes back to back on #15 and #16 .. but otoh I got to use my divot tool way more than usual as a larger then usual number of attempted shots on green found the putting surface.

Short game, however, was the bane of the day... Made mistakes on too many wedge shots (so - guess what I asked the instructor to work on at my lesson the very next day??) and was off-line and/or off-speed on too many putts... So despite getting off the tee and getting the ball into a decent scoring range a bunch of times I still rang up too many doubles (and a few "others")...

But did hit a few Pars and one Birdie on a short Par 3 - actually it was a "team" birdie as I asked my wife to sink the putt for me

Hacked around today.  Actually, was striking the ball okay, but the putting stroke was meh.  Just wasn't really focused and committed for some reason.  Greens are still running slower than usual for our course and the breaks are different.  Shot an 83, which is actually better than it felt.  Better get my act together with the club championship coming next weekend.

Hit the ball very well today.  12 fairways and  10 greens.  With those stats they say you should be flirting with 80.  Well let’s just say those 8 missed greens led to some adventures.  Throw in 3 penalty strokes, snd three 3 putts on the greens that were hit.  Led to an 89.  
 

If you were to take my 9 best holes, I was 1 over on those.  Well you can do the math for the other 9
 

Very happy with the driver, irons and my brand new TSi1 20 degree Hybrid.  But early struggles with the wedges and putter were too much to overcome.
