... I am a little faster with my irons than my driver. I hit my 7 iron around 165 with the Steelfiber 95's. I usually play stiff flex in my irons like Modus 120 stiff in my Z Forged but as you said the Steelfibers are stouter than many other iron shafts so the regular flex works well for me.

After having a lesson yesterday morning, I inevitably played a little too much "golf swing" and not enough golf this morning but still walked away happy. Playing with a new driver swing I hooked one OB left on No. 3 and then for the second time in a week lost a ball in the rough just off the fairway on No. 11, both leading to triples. Left myself some gigantic first putts not accounting for how straight I started hitting my irons and led to a number of three-putts.

- 43/41 = 84 / 83 ESC (+12)
- 7/15 FIR
- 10/18 GIR (2 birdies)
- 30 Putts (3 3-putts, 12 2-putts, 3 1-putts)

Big takeaway is that by the end of the round I really started hitting the ball well throughout the bag after getting a little squirrelly midway through. The new driver swing (much more rounded and flatter after my lesson) was money. I picked up a bunch of distance and accuracy - recording five drives of more than 295 yards and a new personal best 320-yarder on No. 18 with a bit of wind help.

Played back at home today and shot 74. That includes a 35 on the back 9 so first time breaking par on that side. It's far tougher than the front. I had birdies on 17 & 18, and the shot of the day was a 7i on #11 to 2 feet. Putter got hot as I only hit 29, 10 GIR and drove it well. The hybrid of all clubs didn't cooperate as both those tee shots cost me.

82 on Friday playing a new course. Had no idea when we got to the course it would be cart path only and it’s a non walkable course with a lot of distance between holes. Struck it fairly well for a 39 in the front. The driver played well but I didn’t get all the distance I should have with many tee shots plugging. 43 on the back. Had things get away from me with putting and the irons. Really didn’t hit a solid shot into the greens all day. Seemed to be short in most of the par 3s as well which I think is typical for playing a new course and not knowing when to club up vs down

Played well today aside from putting. Had PLENTY of birdie opportunities but couldn't finish including 2 3-putts for par..... However the weather was fair and I had fun.

Overall happy with my round today.   Shot shape was a draw today which is not something I am used to with the driver.  The shape also resulted in some big sweeping hooks with the hybrids as they normally have a slight draw.   Putting was really good and I had lots of confidence when rolling the ball.   Been working on putting and increased the tempo a bit which has helped get the ball to the hole.  I also started using the markings on the ball to help with alignment.  

 

Also played in my companies golf league end of year tournament yesterday.   Tournament is handicapped and I was in the A flight with a 3 handicap.  Shot 83.  I haven't seen the final standings but wasn't near the top.  Did get $25 for closest to the hole.   Overall wasn't really horrible as it lined up with how I have been playing.   Rough was pretty deep and combine that with iron struggles and missed greens and it wasn't a day that set itself up for scoring.

Another 84 today, but played better than yesterday.  Driver wasn't the best, but iron shots were crisper (thank you PlaneMate) and putting was almost back to normal.  Now if I could forget the QUAD I had on the par 3 #15...  

Here was a fun shot...  The divot was pointed at the condo on the other side of the pond on the left (not the apartments in the pic), and it was half a ball deep.  The green is across the pond in the direction of those tall trees.  It's a chip out for me.

... I wish it we're the ole 2 steps forward and one step back. But my swing change decided today was a 2 steps forward and 4 steps back. Traffic accident blocked the main road and got me to the course 3 minutes before tee time, didn't sleep well last night, my back was stiff, temps around 108* without a hint of a breeze and the front 9 took 2.5 hours. I am hoping these are the reasons today was so bad because I could not get a feel for my swing at all. Really disappointing after feeling pretty in sync yesterday. 

... 2 birdies and still shot a 77. Highest round this summer. Not complaining because this is the nature of a swing change and I just have to continue building on the good days and accepting the bad days.

Haven't been playing or posting much lately, but the few rounds I did get to sneak in weren't worth posting anyways.

Today was much better tho and had a putt for 79 that I missed on 18. Driver was so so much better, only 1 penalty stroke today after 3-4 per round the last few times on the course. 30 putts helped a lot too!

Due to a perfect storm of circumstances, I was unable to play with my golf buddies this weekend. I do not like skipping a week if it can be helped, so I played solo at a local course. Of course, with no one to witness it, I scored better than I have ever done before! LOL

Ah man, my wife is tired of hearing about it this weekend but i had an AMAZING back 9! ...We dont need to talk about the front 9 much. Played Yeamans Hall in Charleston, SC, par 70 ( 35/35). Shot a rough 47 on the front (let s skip that part) and then turned around and shot a +2 37 on the back!! Best 9 holes i've ever shot. Closed it out in. style with a 12ft birdie putt on the par 5 18th hole too.

Played that course decades ago when I lived in the area.    Good job on the back 9!

Shot as many over par for just 9 holes as I did for 18 just a week ago, but .. that's ok, do feel like swing is incrementally (minutely; miniscule-ly; nano-bit-ly) improving .. hit reasonably solid tee shots, just a bit in the wrong directions and I kept finding fairway bunkers and trees... A few times I followed that up by going from trouble right into more trouble, so obviously that doesn't help the score either...

Short game and putting were not as sharp as the past few rounds; left a number of chips/pitches well short so gave myself the opportunity to do another short game shot  plus after avoiding 3-putts for a few rounds ended up with two...

Did not lose a ball, though - so I that going for me  - but only thanks to one of my playing partners riding in a cart ahead who scouted out a few wayward tee shots way further down towards the hole vs where I was looking!

I was supposed to play a round with my podiatrist early this morning, but she called to cancel.

Insurance pays for my pedis at the podiatrist.

The least I could do is offer the kid a round of golf.

Insurance does NOT pay for my wife's pedi at the nail salon.

Good thing.   The way those Korean girls play golf, she'd be in trouble.

Anyway, I hit some balls and then had a sandwich instead.

SWMBO and I had a sat morning Tee time, we were going to have a nice round just the two of us.. Then the grandson found out and he wanted to go. So we decided to make it a nice day with him, play golf and have a nice lunch in the clubhouse. it was a great day. I played very well this is a course I have never played great but like the course. I shot an 84, that included a bogey on 17 (par 5) for a ball OB off the tee, and a triple on 18.. ERRRR, we were moving along great until the 15th. I'm pretty sure the waiting took its toll as I started getting a little stiff causing me to turn over early since both tee shots on 17 and the one on 18 went left.. Prior to that I was killing it off the tee and playing solid with the irons.. my 2nd into two of the par 5's hit the green and trickled off the back and 1 other I missed just short right still only 20 ft away.. So I am very happy with my game right now.. Last 3 times out I am 6 over on 18, 3 over on 9 and 12 over sat.. I would say I'm definitely playing solid golf..

Round 2 in with the ZX5's.  A picture perfect morning, 59F, clear (as in no smoke), and not a stitch of wind.  I took advantage of that with some range time and charting some yardages.  My ball striking was solid; working hard on cadence and to release my hands through impact. 

The ZX5's are slightly weaker lofts (1*) than the G410's and I'm finding yardages to be very close.  While the gapping isn't ideal, it's not too bad.  These numbers were with 12-15 balls on each club after hitting several with each.  My CHS is within 1 mph across the set but, based on my charts with the G410's, I'm gaining about 2 yards extra carry.  Club technology and/or shaft, I'm not sure.  I do like my flight window, much tighter, and less L to R fade.

Strata range balls which I'm told are 10% shorter.

After the range session, I played a 2 ball, 18 hole game with a Chromesoft Triple Trac and a ProV1.  The CS shot an 82 and the ProV1 an 85 (did I just hear Tony Covey sigh ).  My driving was really strong with lots of fairways hit.  A handful of approaches were long (I've been opting to club up more of late when in doubt).  Perhaps the difference in range vs. game balls and some flushed shots?  Short chips were a bit inconsistent and, now that I've got the Align Midsize on the set, I'm really noticing the standard grip on the PING Glide 56/12... that's getting changed.

My hands, wrists, elbow and left shoulder feel good... so far so good.

That happens to me a lot Carl. My Saturday league tees off at 7am to beat the heat. I’m an early riser but set the alarm just in case.For some reason I rarely sleep well when I do that.

Can’t tell you how many times I wake up at 2-3 in the morning and can’t go back to sleep. I put on a pot of coffee and sit around waiting for the range to open. I’m always out of sorts though out on the course, and need to nap as soon as I get home.

So my season from hell just won’t end. I played two more rounds with my new irons, and one was better than the other. I shot an 83 on Thursday and an 81 on Saturday. The difference in scoring well was all due to finally being able to hit greens again.

Sounds great right? Hah, there are no happy endings with me and golf this year. As soon as we finished my back started tightening up on me, and got worse when I got home. I woke up Sunday morning and was barely able to straighten up.

Its not feeling any better today, so tomorrow it’s off to the orthopedic for more of the same old same old…. Meds, rest and therapy. Who knows how long it will take this time? I’ve already been on the shelf for 5 and 7 week stretches going back to last November.

I realize there are plenty of people with a lot worse problems with all that’s going on in the world and this country, but I have to admit, I’m frustrated as hell right now.

My wife's brother from Seattle joined us today for a leisurely round.  I drove the ball better than I did over the weekend, but still having trouble around and on the greens.  Not surprising!  I usually practice my short game a couple of times a week, but haven't done much all summer... too hot to stand out in the practice area.  Need to get back to it.

Anyway, shot 43/37 for an 80.  With a 15-20 mph wind I had a few drives that were 25 yards past my normal spots.  My game picked up after the turn when we got by a veerrry, slooooow, foursome.  One guy wearing khaki cargo pants and long black socks hit his ball from the fairway, stood there looking at it for the longest time, then dropped another ball and hit it.  That was it!!  My wife went Irish!!  On Mondays we don't have a marshal... we should!!
