Well then... maybe I should come to Yuma for a round when I am in Palm Springs in January!!

That or meet-up in Parker, AZ and play Emerald Canyon a couple of days.  The Bluewater Casino/Hotel is very nice and the entire venue very affordable.  Our group usually schedules an overnight trip, playing R1 around noon, stay overnight, and R2 in the morning before driving back to Yuma.

My game picked up after the turn when we got by a veerrry, slooooow, foursome.  One guy wearing khaki cargo pants and long black socks hit his ball from the fairway, stood there looking at it for the longest time, then dropped another ball and hit it.  That was it!!  My wife went Irish!!  On Mondays we don't have a marshal... we should!!

I feel your pain.. LOL.. Gotta love the guy Hitting 3 from 250 yds out on a par 5 and watching it like a pro.. LOL

We are already paying per night for a condo in Palm Springs, so we would make it a day trip.  It's 2.5 hours to Parker or Yuma, so it wouldn't matter which.

Played at Pacific Dunes yesterday and it was amazing. Had never played a links style course before and it was very different than any style course I have played before. Had an up and down round, but played ok overall. Didn't fully keep score, was trying to focus more on enjoying the course. Made par on both 10 and 11 which are back to back par 3s. Never played on a course before where distance is 130 but you need to play it like 180 because of the wind. Was hitting irons well on the front 9, not so great after 11 though. Wasn't hitting driver well on the front 9, but driver was hot on the back 9. Think I was initially trying to guide the ball too much, but then went with the swing the driver hard approach and was piping them down the middle of the fairway.

Great course!  Did you opt to utilize a caddy?  It was an amazing experience first time I played there.  My caddy was a mini-tour player during the golf season (I played in Jan) and was very knowledgeable about the course.  Told me where to aim, read the breaks for me...it was unique!

Yeah, used a caddy. Round would have been terrible without one. Would have had no idea to know how much the wind impacted shots, where the best lines are, etc.

One of these things is not like the other....

4 5 4 3 9 5 5 3 4 = 42

14 is an easy par 5, so even if I "just" doubled it, I finish +4.

The 3 on 13 was worth a skin. I sank a 50 footer to do it.

At risk of jinxing myself, I sorted out my driver. The last three drives were good, with this on he last hole. Course still wet, so zero roll, but I'll take it.

Screenshot_20210831-195015.jpg.adad0f77b227cdf68865cdbbd9bd8345.jpg

Pushed the wedge a bit and lipped out the 10 footer.

I finally did it. For the past 2 years I have been on a the quest to a more consistent golf game and ultimately break 80. I've taken lessons, gotten fit for some club upgrades,  practiced more intentionally and played a lot. Today it came together.

79 (!!) 38/41 - 8 FIR - 6 GIR - 29 putts - 12 chips

I started off solid with a comfy par then 2 birdies on par 5s. The rest of the day was a little grind, with some great up and downs and solid drives. The best part is that I still felt like there were a few strokes left out there. A lip out par, a skull f*c!?d wedge inside 100 yards that flew the green and resulted in a double, and 2 wipey drives. But overall, it was a good grind and I am very proud of what I was able to accomplish.

When me and my wife found out we were pregnant in January of 2021, I doubled down on the commitment to breaking 80 before baby girl comes. Well, 3 weeks before the due date, I did it. What a great game golf is and we are all so fortunate to be able to play. Time to put the final touches on the nursery... and maybe some more short game practice if I finish early.

Congratulations on breaking 80!

Played plum creek yesterday and finished with an 80 with three doubles. The other 3 I played with were playing whites so I joined them. I would have played better had I put my ego aside and quit pulling out driver which conveniently put my average distances directly in hazards consistently over shooting fairways. Putting still needs work but it was better as was my chipping if you don't count my shank on the 2nd hole followed by a chip in....

After a week on vacation I finally played again, and shot well. Scored low but had 33 putts, which helps cement my opinion that you don’t need less than 30 putts to have a good round.

live been working on getting my hands higher on my backswing, cuz I think I’m too flat. Got some really good hits with this move.

is there ever an end to trying to improve your game?

We were paired with two elders...nice guys but holy cow were they sllooooowwwwwwwww...it killed any rhythm we had.

... We have all been there and it is agonizing. Just no reason to be slow regardless of your skill level. I have played with someone shooting well over 100 and moving well and someone shooting 75 and playing like molasses, stalking every putt like it will win the Masters. But the most annoying is those being social and just never ready. I really hate pulling up to the tee box to see a 4some talking while the group in front is on the green or sometimes walking off the green only to see their head swivel our way, look down the fairway and only then start to pull clubs and tee off. If the course is full there is nowhere to go but as you said, it kills your rhythm.

Yea and if it happens once or twice getting caught up on the tee box (been there) that is fine by me, problem is when it happens shot to shot. Also dropping/losing balls, bring enough you know you go OB alot...Be ready to drop.

The most difficult part was not anticipating where to go and then standing over the ball for a minute.

We laughed, painfully...It also didnt help that we were playing from the 2nd back tees and they were playing the senior tees and they would hit again before we got to our tee shots.

... I am always amazed when I am paired up with a slow group and I mention are a hole or two behind and it is stacking up behind us ... They always turn and look like the thought of anyone else being on the course just never occurred to them. They get to tee off without waiting on every hole. Thankfully it is far from the norm but it just takes one group to bring the entire course to a slow crawl.

The lack of self-awareness is fascinating.

Next time we'll just have to find more friends to join our twosome 🙂

The head pro told me I could play back 9 for my round today. I’m by myself and walking. He told me that the group in front of me was 2 dad’s and their kids. He said he told them to let any group that caught up to them to play through. So I caught up to them on 11 with a twosome in cart right on my tail. So I figured I’d just skip number 11 all together. It’s a par 3 and kids are are all over place. It’s no biggie since I’m a member and I can play whenever. So I walk past them and tell them I’ll skip the hole, one of the dads offered to let me play through. I thanked him but told him I’d just skip the hole because of the twosome on my tail. I teed off of 12 and proceed to my ball which is off the fairway in the right hand rough. I play my second shot and am walking down the fairway now when a ball comes flying in past me to my left. One of the dads teed off and hit it into me. 🤦🏻‍♂️

Played Exec 9 Monday & Tuesday and used the 2dats as practice getting used to having no feeling in part of my hand/2 fingers.

Wednesday is my Big Boy 18 serious group.  Played OK (2 over) for 1st 6 holes. 7th hole started light rain bogey, 8th hole little garden rain but eeked out a Par, 9th hole deluge!!  The 9th is a Par 5 and somehow got to the green in 5 shots and picked up since the green was flooding and unplayable.  We were all “unplayable”😱.

Wednesday after went to Orthopedic Doc for my hand.  It’s not my hand but my elbow.  Somehow I’ve damaged the Ulnar nerve.  Great, now I’ve got 2 Orthopedic Surgeons, - for my elbow/hand and the other for my knees!
They are both good guys and they’ll get me straightened out.

Hopefully it was a mistake.  Most folks kind enough to adhere to etiquette of someone playing through aren't stupid enough to deliberately hit someone playing through.

If driving iron, lob wedge, and putter show up rather than mail it in,

I can play to or near  my handicap.   The rest of the game is ancillary.

Not great.  Not awful.  It is what it is.

39/42-81 today, 11 over.

Used some older gear today.

Some of my recent purchases were expensive mistakes.

For somebody who hates feeling like an idiot,

I sure make myself do it a lot.
