How'd you play?

Played Ballantrae Golf Club in Pelham, AL just outside of Birmingham, with a couple of older men from my church. Shot 85, 44/41 hit 9/13 fairways and hit 4/18 greens. Didn’t hit a green til hole 15 then hit the last 4! Just was not doing well with the irons but got up and down a few times. Started to revert back to old habits but figured it out late. Drove it great, 3/4 missed fairways were first cut. No birdies and 3 doubles. Putted decent with 31, but only made a couple that were outside a few feet. 
 

Had a great time and the course is in great shape, despite being pretty wet from hurricane Ida.

… You require a response from the ignorant. First me because I never play before 2pm and secondly in my humble opinion anyone not playing the course in recommend playing times should spend the next day cleaning carts filled with almost unimaginable trash from other inconsiderate people also posing as golfers.

Because our club has a big, week long match play tournament going on that I'm not playing, we played one of the local public courses in town today.   I haven't played the course for quite awhile.  We played a set of tees that's longer than I typically play, which meant I was hitting a lot of woods for second shots.  Anyway, played fairly well with a 8 over 80.  One double bogey when I had issues getting out of the green side trap (wet sand).  Answered that with a birdie, otherwise pars and bogies.  Greens were huge and fast!  Loved the speed of the greens, despite having far too many long putts.  Had one 3 putt on the first green, then settled in with 33 putts for the round.

Played a stag day at my nemesis track where I always stink, and I held serve, and stunk again…

buttt, I hit 3- 3woods that were superb- the little swing change of getting higher hands on backswing did have a few good moments..

No Friday Bacon Boyz.  Somehow we couldn’t get our Tee Time.  Some of the Guys went “off campus” but I didn’t participate.  Need to take some time to get my elbow/hand rested anyway.

This is something that I wish more folks understood.

People are pigs...it's one reason why I continue to wear a mask in indoor public environments...I don't trust them or their hygiene regardless of their vaccination status.

There is something about golf that entitles people to act like spoiled trash and after 12 years working carts / golf service, nothing surprised me when I would see what people would leave in their carts.

... I only experienced it for one day and I was absolutely shocked at the "pigs" as you so aptly described them. Good friend of mine was a GM at a muni so I played for free and one night he had one kid not show up and another go home sick so he had to clean the carts coming in himself and asked me to lend a hand. Probably played 50 rounds for free that year so it was the least I could do. Some carts needed a Hazmat suit before attempting to clean them. I can't believe you did it for 12 years!

You did a good thing Sam and clearly, earned those rounds  

Age 16-28…I only did it part time in my final 4 as an assistant, you gotta help your cart barn guys right. Leaving at 6p when there are over 20 carts stacked after a shotgun, you have to be a part of the team.

Cigarettes, partially eaten food, underwear, hair extensions….….those are just the ones I can say on here…

Huh, never knew.  The only time we took carts were Charity Events/Outing when carts were mandatory.  We always threw our garbage out when we turned carts in.

Today had the makings of a fantastic round but I was only able to convert 1 of the 5 legit birdie attempts I had.. dang it .  I hit 13 or 14 fairways and the ZX5's were pitching darts.  The triple on #5 was unfortunate as my 3w off the tee went long but left, forcing me to pitch to the right of the tree line, over the creek, and onto the fairway.  I shorted my PW and it was nearly plugged in deep rough.  #4 went over the backside into more thick stuff and I 3 putted.  The round had sub 80 written all over it... oh well.

Still, I feel like I finally got the better of old Cottonwood Hills today.  I played from the blue tees which are a little on the long side for me at 6680.  It's had my number the last few rounds and I knew I could play it much better.  Except for some mild smoke moving back into the region, it was a gorgeous 72F day with just a light breeze.

Even better, I purchased my new air compressor for the build bench while in town... air grip install #1 this weekend .

Shot a rather frustrating 88 today. No spectacular shots, just a good number of decent ones, and some really bad shots coming at the most inopportune times. 
Post round reflections with a beer and ice cream reminded me that I need to take a broader look at my game when I feel like I’m struggling - four months ago I would’ve been ecstatic to shoot an 88. The fact that I was disappointed with today’s score is really just a reflection of how far my game has come this year, and hopefully how much further it will go in the next year. 
The quest to break 80 continues!

Got over to @edingc's home course yesterday afternoon after taking a vacation day. I like the track, but haven't played it particularly well in the past. 

Today I was knocking it around pretty well, mostly limiting my mistakes. Until the 16th, where I hooked my drive OB Ended up tripling that hole for my only DB+ on the day. 

Shot 78, which is back to back sub 80 rounds! Definitely a first for me. I'm excited that I'm scoring well despite my swing not feeling 100% locked in. In the past I haven't been able to grind out scores very well when my swing isn't dialed in that day.

The month of August has been brutal for me.  I've seen my index go up 2 shots as I play mediocre round after mediocre round, with garbage rounds thrown in for good measure.  

Very much a First World Problem, I realize, but still a bit unsettling.

Yes it is a fun course, about medium challenge wise in my opinion but in a beautiful area abs in great shape. Best part is it’s only $40 with cart after 12!

Fortunately I have been on a roll for the past four years. I have been able to cut my handicap in half each year. I started at a 5 four years back. Interesting enough that was when I got involved with MGS. I was trying hard to get to a 1 this season and cruised right past it. I haven't  been posting since I started ball testing. But I  finished up last weekend. Lets see how my game is tomorrow.

@edingcis making great progress too. I have been following along. Its always great when you have a breakthrough and you can see your hard work paying off. He is working hard. Me, not so much just focusing more and playing with a purpose.

Thanks! I broke 80 for the first time last June, and was able to break 80 one more time last season as well. This year I've hit or broke 80 four times now. It's been really satisfying seeing some hard work pay off, but I've also had a handful of moments where my expectations have grown quicker than my game and I've needed to take it down a few notches:)

I found that breaking 80 for the first time was the biggest barrier. Then everything seems to get easier. Just like you mentioned that you did it four times this season. For me not adding up my score during play took the mental part of the game out. I would write the score of the hole down but just not mentally total. Then you add it up at the end and all the sudden you are in the low 70's. Keep up the good work I know you are running out of the golf season much sooner than I am.

We’ll thanks to my wife, brother and@B.Bostoni had a nice surprise round since I had to bail early our annual golf trip in June they planned a round today for me!

Shot a 78 41/37 with a beautiful back 9. 3 birdies, 6 bogies 1 triple and 8 pars

-8/14 FIR 10/18 GIR

-32 putts (3 (3) putts 8 (2) putts and 7 (1) putts) more details in the FUJI testing thread but hot dang could have had a round without those 3 putts 

Nothing was *stellar* but everything was just working today with a few hiccups. Made of for a few bad tee shots on the front with good second shots/chipping and as a whole good putting. Turned on my tee shots on the back and took some aggressive second shots. Feeling really good swing wise right now.
