Kenny B
Our course had a 1pm shotgun tournament booked, so our usual tee time this morning was an 8am shotgun. My wife decorated our cart with two American flags on top. Our usual couple we play with wasn't there, but we played with regulars at the course; one guy retired army vet with an Army golf bag. Not having played since last Sunday, I managed to get around the course with an 81... only one double, but no birdies; 2 sand saves and 30 putts. I beat my wife... not literally!! She shot 90, but did have 2 birds on #2 and #17. fozcycle, ejgaudette, JerryB and 5 others 8 Quote “We don’t stop playing the game because we get old; we get old because we stop playing the game.”
JerryB
Son and I decided at the last minute to play a round today. We were able to get a tee time at Marengo Ridge in Marengo IL. Never been there before but we'll definitely be back. Great course. Well maintained. Balls rolled a long way, which was cool. Only weird thing was that it looked like every knuckle dragger was there dragging their feet on the greens. We both got birdies on the dogleg short par 4 fifth hole, only my second ever, on different approaches. He managed to clear the dogleg and land just shy of the green which gave him a short chip and a putt, while I landed my drive right at the curve and hit my best approach shot of the day to a foot from the cup. I'd been working on my driving recently and it paid off today. Just absolutely crushing (for me) the driver, only one shot was badly mishit. Really striping my 3H, too. My irons were a little hit or miss so I tried using my new driver grip on the back nine. Consistency was better and I overshot a few, which is great because I usually leave myself short. Wedge game was iffy. Putting was atrocious. Would have killed for a few more three putts, sadly. One of my favorite things in life is cracking a terrible joke or making a funny comment, then watching someone's delayed reaction as they realize what I said. My son was ribbing my poor putting and I called myself Jabba the Three Putt. Took him about three seconds before it hit him and he just doubled over in laughter. Had to take a few steps away and reset over his shot. Shot a 104. Really one of the more satisfying rounds I've had in a while. Hope to get back out soon! Popular Post Peaksy68
First round in 6 weeks after our lockdown was eased. No competition allowed so we played a 3 man skins. Golf was a bit of a mixed bag but it was great to get out on the course. Wind was blowing about 20mph and gusting around, greens were very slow. Hit a few big drives (for me) including one over 300 off the first (straight downwind) Irons we’re ok, misjudged the wind a couple of times and hit it through the green. Short game was not unexpectedly below average. Leftt a lot of putts short, really struggled getting the ball to the hole on the slow greens. Highlights were a couple of birdies after hitting it close and our 4th who I’d not met before also dressed for the occasion and celebrating the Australian Football team we both support making the AFL Grand Final (our Super Bowl equivalent) after a great win on Friday night. edingc, fozcycle, MattF and 7 others 10 Quote 849 Pro Evenflow Riptide 6.0 F8 3 & 5 Woods Project X Evenflow Blue 6.0 TS2 7 Wood Project X Evenflow Blue 6.0 MP18 MMC - Project X LZ 5.5 Zipcore Wedges 50,54,58 - Project X LZ 5.5 MLA Tour Mallet 33" Z Star Pioneer bag buggy

edingc
- 34/41 = 75 (+3) - 6/15 FIR - 12/18 GIR (4 birdies) - 35 Putts (2 3-putts, 13 2-putts, 3 1-putts) For the first time in a while, things came together for a good chunk of the round. My brother-in-law joined me for the round this morning and having a second person really helped me to spend just a touch longer visualizing shots and putts. I hit 11 of the first 12 greens, had three eagle opportunities and rolled in a 35-foot birdie putt on the par 3 No. 6 hole for the first birdie on that hole all season for me. Biggest thing I did different was that I worked through nearly a full Rypstick workout before teeing off. Normally it takes a couple holes for me to completely get loose, but the 50+ swings in the Rypstick workout really gets you warmed up. Additionally, it does seem to add a few miles per hour for a bit as well. First shot on course was a 260-yard 4 hybrid and I didn't feel like I was swinging hard at all! I unfortunately started to press a bit after hole 12, realizing I had a good shot at breaking par with the way I was playing. Driver got a little squirrelly and cost me some strokes down the stretch, including an ugly double bogey on the only par 5 on the back. Just started to play a little too tight. Oh well. Feels good to get a good round in, probably my best in well over a month. fixyurdivot, cksurfdude, MattF and 3 others 6 Quote Unofficial WHS Handicap: 7.5 / Anti-Cap: 13.0 (Last Updated Feb. 19, 2024) Driver: Callaway Paradym TD (10.5°, -1/N), 45.75", Fujikura Motore X F1 6X | Fitting Post 3 Wood: Cobra RadSpeed Big Tour (14.5°), 43", Fujikura Motore X F1 7X 20° Hybrid: PXG 0211 (2020 Model), 40.25", Mitsubishi Tensei AV RAW White 90X 4 Utility: Cobra KING Utility (2020 Model), 38.5", Aerotech SteelFiber i110cw Stiff 5-PW: Ben Hogan PTx Pro, 37" 7 Iron, Aerotech SteelFiber i125cw Stiff | Club Champion Fitting 50°, 54°, 58°: Edel SMS, V Grind, Nippon Modus 125 Wedge| Official Review Thread Putter: L.A.B. I've toyed with heads up putting a few times over the years. I tend to do it more on the practice green than when they count, but it does free up my stroke (i.e. not thinking about the stroke and instead focusing on distance and line). You know, it's a lot like tossing a ball and it makes sense. You don't look at the ball when you toss it to your friend. Long putts are another story though. I'm just a creature of habit and have putted with my head down for so many years. I consider myself a decent putter, but I may play with heads up on shorter stuff again during the winter months. I'll withhold judgement about the "others".....been there, done that, got the tee shirt. A lot more people would make triples if they putted everything out until holed. I see far too many people pick up and say "gimme a double" in non-tournament play. We had a tournament the other day that required putting everything out. One 15 handicap player in our group missed at least 5 putts inside 3 feet. cksurfdude, bens197, cnosil and 4 others 7 Quote Driver: Rogue ST Max (10.5* set at -1 and neutral) -- Mitsubishi Tensai Blue 55g R shaft Fairway: Rogue ST Max 3 wood (16.5*) and Heaven Wood (20*)-- Tensai Blue 55g R shaft Hybrids: Rogue ST Max 5H (23*)--Tensai Blue 55g R shaft Irons: Apex CF19 6-9, PW, AW -- KBS Tour Graphite TGI 70 shafts R +1/2 inch 3* upright Wedges: Edison 53* and 57* KBS PGI 80 Graphite +1/2 inch 2* upright Putter: L.A.B. I have 3 pair just sitting around, myself. Which ones did you order? Got another pair of Puma. Similar to the Ignites I had. This one has the ratchet mechanism. Ignite Pwradapt Caged Disc. Popular Post bens197
After a break, we were able to play the local FD Battalion golf tournament which is a fan favorite. Some solid shots and some poor ones as well. The SIM2 with the Tensei is so long its not even funny. Won the longest drive with one at 334, hit three others that landed between 308 and 329. We shot -11 and lost by 1. Made some putts, had a LOT of fun and most importantly, got back into the routine of playing scrambles...it feels nice. chisag, russtopherb, edingc and 11 others 14 Quote Titleist TSi3 Fujikura Speeder NX Blue 60X TaylorMade SIM2 3 wood Fujilkura Ventus Blue 7-X Titleist U505 2 Tensei 1K Black 85 X Titleist T100 4-P Nippon Modus 3 120X PING S159 50-S 55-H 59-T DG X100 Vokey SM8 50, SM9 54 & 60 Nippon Modus 3 120s L.A.B.
