Popular Post chisag
... Really good day on the course with excellent company. My old swing is feeling really nice and hit every fairway and green on the front but had difficult putts, three inside 6 feet that all broke at least 3 feet. Greenskeeper must have had a bad day because pins are usually not in such difficult spots. Finally birdied #9 after hitting a 3 wood just over the back of the green and chipping to a foot. ... Back 9 was a different story with pins in more standard locations. Birdied #10, then a 180* lip out on #11 that sat on the edge mocking me and birdied #12. Solid pars the rest of the way and hit a nice drive on #18 leaving me 168 to a back right pin over water. Another par puts me in the 60's so it was no time to pin hunt and I played to the middle of the green. I hit a 3/4 6 iron my 175 club and somehow hit it farther than I wanted going just over the back of the green. I had to play a lob over a hogs back with no chance of getting it close. So much for playing smart LOL. Finished with my only bogie of the day and to rub salt in the wound, my pard had his only birdie on 18! NRJyzr
Two rounds over the weekend, and a two man No Scotch event as well. Game showing signs of life, I made a couple stupid mistakes and wound up with a 79 on my 69.0/122 course, which is better than I'd been playing. The other round was in the low 80s, and played in 20 mph winds. I'm trying to give myself a bit of a pass for some of the shots that day. The No Scotch event was a little odd. My teammate and I both managed to mess up just enough to turn birdies in to pars. And, we wound up with an odd bogey, where we both hit tee shots OB, put the ball on the green and made a 40 foot double breaker for a five. Yeah, go figure. Been experimenting with a new SpeedZone driver, along with lighter than usual shafts and longer club lengths. The latter hasn't been working so well, I've managed to prove to myself that 45" will not work for me in the long term. 44.5" is OK, but still dicey. I do believe I'll be heading back to 44" and possibly less. Still toying with using sub-70g shafts. If anyone is interested, I'm moving away from the ProtoPype 80 and RIP Alpha 80 that I'd been using earlier in the year. The NV105 wood shaft is in a 3w. I've picked up a HZRDUS Black 62 that will get some play, and also scored a Phenom NL 60 (67g on my scale) that will get some time. Past couple rounds have been with a ProtoPype 70 that I'd set aside a couple years ago for being too light, LOL. I still have an NV75 or two lying around that can be assembled, if sub-70g doesn't work. Or the NV75 in a TM adapter, that I've been using with the Original One. I'm using All-Fit universal adapters with my new shafts, allowing me to go back and forth between my Cobras and the Original One. The Phenom NL will get installed in one of these when I get off my backside. Have extra Cobra weights on the way to make it a little more interesting in making it shorter and hitting my swingweight target. GolfSpy TCB
I have been playing a little better the past few rounds. Working on trying to "swing" my irons rather than "hit" them. For me, it is all about finding some consistency. The new sticks are amazing, but that is another thread. Saturday - 79 that could have been 76... I realized I was getting too technical with my putting stroke, and started rolling the ball, rather than thinking about positions and length of stroke... I played Sunday morning and on the front 9 I noticed (in the morning dew on the greens) that my ball was skidding at the start... very clearly represented by the gaps in my ball's path - especially nearest to the putter contact. Several poor lags combined with putts I should have made...I shot 44 on the front, then after that epiphany shot 37 on the back with a double. Went back out in the evening for a 9 and I was even through 8 before dead pulling a side-hill 5W into the water hazard. Ended up with a triple due to a poor chip and two putts. But still happy with the way I played. Course is closed on Monday... Hopefully will get a few holes in tonight to keep the momentum. Started so well with a 280y 3h on the 1st, bump & run to 10ft but lipped out for a . Just went downhill from there and had no lucky breaks at all. Popular Post Ben_Howell34
Played Old Edwards today in Highlands, NC on vacation. Gorgeous course but also probably the hardest I’ve ever played. No forgiveness off the tee which did not help my horrible driving today. Shot 95 52/43 hitting 3 fairways (I’m averaging around 50% right now) and only 2 greens. Had 12 penalties!!! Actually hit irons/wedges well today besides a couple of shots, but most were on in 3 because of bad drives. Really fun day though with perfect weather after two rainy days and some incredible views these pictures will not do justice. I also was paired up with a former college golfer who could rip it. Was hitting 3 wood 275 easy. Had a nice 3 driving iron he could pummel as well which helped a lot on this course. Was fun to watch him play and pick his brain also. I hit 10/14 FIR for 71%, 6/18 GIR for 33% and 32 putts. This gave me a 43/42:85 with one birdie on 314 yd par 4 #10. After playing it I've decided (not because of my score) that there should be a lot more courses like it in the world. Totally, completely agree!!! There's a similar in concept but not quite as nice short little 9-hole near me .. unfortunately over the past several seasons it's gotten "discovered" and round times there can draaaaaag... But it's really fun and a great venue for kids and beginners to get out and learn. Syks7, MattF and Kenny B 3 Quote WITB of an "aspiring" play-ah ... Siamese Moose
I was a bit inconsistent today compared to recently, but still, it felt real good to birdie the last (186 yd par 3, my only birdie today) to manage to break 80. That one shot difference makes it feel so much better. JerryB, DStar, cnosil and 5 others 8 Quote Moose, my cat, is Siamese
Popular Post Kenny B
Yesterday I played with my old guys Monday walking group again... second week in a row on Thursdays. Guess it's my Thursday old guys walking group now! Last week they decided to move up to the White tees. Who am I to argue!! I decided to throw my Mizuno MP-20 HMB irons in my bag. I haven't been playing them since I bought them in early June... much lighter than my Bridgestones, and I have had trouble making good contact. Well, I have been making better strikes on the ball at home in my bay after spending a lot of time with Monte's latest video Broomforce. Shot 40 (+3) with a double after my only mishit of the round on the par 5 #5. The Mizunos have much weaker lofts so I had to figure out what club to hit on every shot. Guessed right more than wrong. Need more time with them, but I think I will like playing them. I was paired with a gentleman from New York and a Father & Son from Connecticut. I must say this is the best course I have played in my 7 years coming to HHI. I played the white tees at 5,628 yds. I hit 10/14 FIR for 71%, 6/18 GIR for 33% and 32 putts. This gave me a 43/42:85 with one birdie on 314 yd par 4 #10. The weather warmed up to 75* during the round with plenty of sunshine after 2 1/2 days of rain. Kinda getting used to not taking a full swing as my right shoulder is still aggravated. Interesting you say it’s the best you’ve played in HHI. Where all have you played there? Played Fazio course Labor Day and would like to go back and play more. toehold57
Had a chance to play the Air Force Academy’s silver course, aka the Eisenhower course. AFA has two courses, blue & silver. Blue, I’m told, is more wide open but longer. Silver is shorter but tighter & more technical. My first time to play either so I can’t compare but the silver course does appear to live up to its description. One par 4 was only 315yds yet it wasn’t an easy hole. Beautiful course set against the foothills just north of Pikes Peak, great weather, what fun. Thankfully I had a partner who plays there a lot and could guide me around, otherwise I’d have wasted a bunch of shots. Played pretty well although the par 3’s ate me up. Greens have a lot of slope which made putting difficult, still only 33 putts though. gavinski91
Went out for 9 holes yesterday with my dad and brothers and couldn’t hit anything. Had one chip-in, and one decent drive. Other than that I couldn’t even hit the ball, ended with a 56. I couldn’t leave that going into the weekend, so I went back to the same course for another 9 this afternoon and started on the 10th hole. All of a sudden I was making good contact, and shot a 42. fozcycle
Third and last round at Hilton Head, played the Arthur Hills course at Palmetto Hall. Shot horrible, 45/52:97 but enjoyed the round. Was paired with a single from Hickory, NC and one from Chicago, IL. Mike and Mark. Mark was in the process of relocating to HHI. Played 5,6oo+ Yds. While not especially long, I found most of the bunkers and struggled all day. My shoulder and ankle bothered me all day. So long to HHI today, will be back next year. gavinski91, MattF, Rickp and 6 others 9 Quote Driver: 0311 XF 10.5* w/Project X Cypher 40 gram Senior shaft or 0811 XF 12* w/Evenflo Riptide CB Senior shaft Fairways: 0211 5W & 7W w/ Evenflo Riptide CB regular shaft and Tour Edge E521 9W w/Fubuki HD50 regular shaft Hybrid: None in bag at the moment Irons: Titleist T300 5-PW w/Fubuki MV Senior graphite shafts w/Golf Pride Tour Wedges: Edison forged 49*, 53* and 57* wedges with KB PGI Senior shafts(80 grm). tony@CIC
We finally got a break in the weather yesterday - well at least the sun came out and no rain in sight - but, still windy as all heck. Ended up playing a tad better than my rounds over the past 6 weeks. Leg must be healing as it didn't hurt during or after the round. I ended up with a 92 with 34 putts - the greens were unbelievably fast and the fairways still quite wet so didn't get much rollout. I was planning on golfing with the wife today but of course it's starting to rain MattF, JerryB, Rickp and 1 other 4 Quote Left Hand orientation SIM 2 D Max with Fujikura Air Speeder Shaft Cobra Radspeed 3W/RIptide Shaft 410 Hybrids 22*, 26* Cobra Speed Zone 6-GP/Recoil ESX 460 F3 Shafts SM7 54* Wedge Glide 3.0 60* Wedge O Works putter V3 NX9-HD - 4 Wheel EZGO TXT 48v cart - too many shoes to list and so many to buy And BAG Boy Golf Balls: Vice Pro Plus 2020 Official Tester Beginning Driver Speed - 78 2019 Official Tester 410 Driver 2018 Official Tester C300
