Popular Post vandyland
Had an excellent Halloween Sunday playing at an Arnold Palmer course (par 70) I had never seen before but has been putting in a lot of rehab work and was in great shape. Truly a tale of two 9s but the back 9 was easily the best scoring 9 holes I have ever played. I had just put my Seemore FGP back in the bag and was just going out to put a good stroke on the ball (I have been practicing putting on my Blast Motion most nights for the last week). Other than the 7 I posted on number 3 (hit my first drive OB and my re-teed second drive (3rd shot) into the face of a fairway bunker, the whole day went rather smoothly. I think this might be my ceiling for how well I can play and it has me buzzing (for now...)! mikeanthony, MattF, Shapotomous and 11 others 14 Quote STZ 230 9.5* "Std" setting STZ 230 Hybrid 18* "lower" setting Pro Fli-Hi 21.5* MALTBY TS1-IM 5-GW Equalizer II 54* Glide 4.0 (S) 58* L.A.B. Haro
Driving has been too loose , Snap hook 4/9 drives from the tees last time out. I not sure what Im doing wrong My set up seems to be the same, The rest of the 5/9 drives were beautiful high deep fades. Tee is always same height. I have an open stance and for whatever reason my hands turn over unpredictable The first two snaps I could find in open fairway with few tress left side but the last two was way over the other fairway that I had to scramble to get back and other was OB . I got afraid of driver later in the round and had used another club to tee off. This happens. Seem like I snap hook at least once every. round . with average 1/4 times with the driver , the rest goes straight or slightly right . Got some tips now that I will try . One is to lower the tee height to be more consistent( I tend to tee up really high above way above the crown as I like to hit up , but I dont need to tee it that high) . two is to extend my arms and check if the clubface slightly open or shut I have unknowingly thinking my driver face is open but when I extend arms I see that driver face is actually shut. When i swing My left shoulder /shoulder blade moves more forward than up , not sure which chicken /egg my left shoulder lunges or my grip clubface to shut . probably a combo I never really feel comfortable with holes that have treeline fairway that has severe dogleg right to left at around 200-250 yards I feel like that sets up for snap hook even when I try not to MattF, Vegan_Golfer_PNW, cksurfdude and 3 others
Popular Post MaxEntropy
It was 40 degrees and breezy when we teed off for our final league night of the year. A few snow flurries along the way, but we were dressed for it. Played bogey golf for the 9 holes, nothing too awful and nothing too great, but considering how many layers I had on, I felt like the little brother in A Christmas Story. No one else was on the course so when we finished 9, we were going to play 10 then 18 and be done. I hit a nice drive on 10 but pulled it a bit and had tree trouble. Punched a 9 iron that ended up about 15 feet past the hole and buried the birdie putt. Decided right then to quit while I was ahead. It's nice to finish the season on a high note. Popular Post Kenny B
Started out at 44º and I don't think it made it to 50º. Shot 42(+5) after a triple on the 1st hole... but I got up and down for that triple from the bunker on the 4th hole!!! Don't ask!! Birdied the par 5 #6 hole with a good drive; nice 4W and SW to 10 feet. Shot 37(+2) on the back nine with a birdie on my nemesis hole #18 par 5. Good drive to middle of the fairway at the dogleg; 5i layup to middle of fairway; and SW to 6 feet. The key for me on this hole is driving the ball far enough that I have a shot around the corner of the dogleg; don't... and I bring all kinds of trouble into play. Decent round of 79. Popular Post mikeanthony
Got out and played the Ocean Course at Kiawah for the first time yesterday … what an incredible experience. Got on the tee sheet as a solo and was lucky enough to be paired with 3 other really good dudes, great golfers and just good company. My goal was to break 90 from the Dye tees at 6400 yards and 139 rating … shot 88 with a birdie and a triple as my best and worst scoring holes. As happy as I am about that score, I’m even more amazed that I didn’t top my 3W at the first tee … for I somehow managed to pipe it right down the middle! Can’t remember a time being more nervous on the first tee. If you’re ever out there, I highly recommend that you request Will Strickland as your caddie. Fantastic dude with 15 years experience at the Ocean Course. Just simply could not have been a better experience. And I really wish I had an endless bucket of money in the discretionary expenses category for I’d be playing courses with caddie programs and walking at every chance I could get. Funny you mention that, for I was planning on playing the Kiawah tees … but the wind was very light yesterday morning, and only picked up slightly on the back. Along with that, my caddie saw my shots and distance on the range and challenged me to play the Dye tees. Syks7
As has been the usual lately, a mixture of great and terrible. I'm trying to laugh it off, but I'm fighting frustration with my current regression/plateau and the fact that as my iron play has gotten better it has fully exposed the weakest part of my game (really short approach). Its kind of funny that when I used to miss my approach shot by a mile I had an easier time getting up and down then I do when I'm 15 yards from the hole with a wedge in hand. I'm certainly more comfortable but confidence isn't there yet on the course. Anyway onto the round. I played Rustic Canyon today which was, as always, incredible. It was, however, particularly vicious today -- the course and golf gods gave me no love today with bounces, lies, and putting locations. I didn't put up a monster number but I would call my 92 a heavy struggle. That being said, if I can tame these blowup holes, even down to just bogey, I'm going to be in very good shape. The good: Off the tee -- Excellent. I hit 10/13 fairways (which has to be a record for me) Driver -- Mostly great, with a few what did you just do moments. 3Wood -- Best day I've ever had with this club. I was crushing it all day, both off the deck and off the tee, but getting truly unlucky on approach. A foot short into heavy 12" grass on a par 5, a yard left catching the edge of a bunker on a long par 4, and getting a mega kick forward that put me into the back of a deep pot bunker on a par 5. The Average: Irons -- I was either in great shape or just missing. Could have been better but just didn't really feel dialed all day. Wedges -- There were a few terrible skulls with par in play that led to triples. Otherwise they weren't bad. They didn't help me either. Putting -- It just wasn't an on day. My speed was okay but my aim was not. The Poor: My luck -- It was bad kick city today for me. Man its frustrating when you have the local course knowledge and the course says, "nope, that won't work today." My green reading: Usually I don't have a problem with Rustic, but today it gave me fits. I just read things totally wrong so many times today. (I recognize that it says 34 putts but because of the links nature of the course I had a putter in hand a lot more than it shows. There were a lot of 3 putt stroke holes that only count are only two official putts. NRJyzr
After last weekend, my course closed for the season. Weather was taking a turn, overnight lows getting to 20*F and below. Popular Post Kenny B
I wasn't going to play today; didn't even have my clubs in the car. I was running errands and my wife called and asked if I wanted to walk 9 holes. I met her at the clubhouse; she brought my clubs, but left my Garmin S62 at home, so I had to "guess" at yardages using the 100/150/200 markers. Shot 39 (+2)... 4 bogeys, 2 birdies, and 3 pars. I've been working on Monte's BroomForce drills, and I have noticed better distance with my irons on a couple of shots. On the par 3 #4 hole I had an 8i distance by my wife's laser, and the moment I hit it, I said "Whoa!" Still on the green but 30 feet behind the pin; no wind. I spent much of the front 9 hitting horrible tee shots trying to compensate for the wind. Hard to score when you're laying up on par 4s. Add in a complete loss of feel with the putter and its not a recipe for low scoring. Developed a tee game clue on the back nine. Thanks to the wind, I was able to go hybrid-hybrid to just short of the 495 yd par 5 (water interrupts half to two thirds of the hole at 255 from tee), and lipped out my eagle chip. My lone highlight. LOL Don't know what I shot, suspect it was mid 80s... sirchunksalot, cksurfdude, GolfSpy_SHARK and 4 others 7 Quote Driver: TM Original One 11.5* set to 11*, Aldila NV75 X, 43.5" -or- SpeedZone, HZRDUS Black 75 6.5, 43.5" 3w: Cobra King LTD, RIP Beta 90, 42" -or- Stage 2 Tour, NV105 X, 42.5" 2h or 3h: TaylorMade Stage 2 Tour, Aldila NV105 S -or- RIP Alpha 105 S Irons: 3-PW Mizuno MP37, Recoil Proto 125 F4 (reshaft in progress, slowly); 1i & 3-PW Golden Ram TW276, NV105 S; 2-PW Golden Ram TW282, RIP Tour 115 R GW: Dynacraft Dual Milled CNC 52*, Steelfiber 125 S; Scratch 8620 DS 53*, Steelfiber 125 S SW: Ram TG-898 56*, DGX ss2x; Ram Tom Watson 55*, DGX ss2x; Wilson Staff PMP 58*, DGS; PM Grind 19 58*, stock shaft Putter: Snake Eyes Viper Tour Sv1, 34"; Ping Scottsdale TR Craz-E, 35"; Cleveland Huntington Beach 1, 35" Ball: Wilson Staff Duo Professional, Bridgestone Tour B-RXS, Callaway Chrome Soft

Yeah, unfortunately I don't have that swing for every shot yet. Working on it. Back to reality today. Popular Post Kenny B
Got home yesterday after walking 9 holes and our next door neighbor came over, gave me their house key, and said that she had to take her husband to the ER. He's not doing well after the Covid shot; been to the ER 4-5 times this summer. The problem was that they were having wood flooring delivered. She said she made a place in the entryway and they could stack it there. I said OK, I'll let them in. Uh Oh! One guy showed up later with a truck and forklift and it's going to be left curbside. It could rain, so I had him put it in our garage. Then I hauled it 2 packages at a time in a wheelbarrow into their house. Those packs are HEAVY!! Took me 1.5 hours, but I needed to get them out because it's my wife's parking spot! Long story to set up another YB excuse. I could hardly walk this morning and every joint in my old body hurt like... #*&@ Played anyway in a 15-25 mph wind; temp 45-53º. Shot 80, but had some bad chips and putts. Only one birdie on the par 3 #15; normally a 9i... into the wind I hit a 7i to 4 feet. PMookie
79 (41/38). Birdied two in-a-row on the back to help the score. I tried a “winter” shaft in the driver today, and once I figured out where to aim it it turned out to be pretty good. As the temps drop I can’t activate the XX stiff shafts I have, so I’m going to move down to playing a stiff shaft until it heats-up again. I tried the stock Mitsubishi MMT 70 Stiff today and liked it, I just HATE the way the Max LS head feels. I never get the sense that I flush one. sirchunksalot, MattF, JerryB and 6 others 9 Quote Driver: Ping G430 Max 9*, Ping Tour 70X Fairway: Ping G425 15*, Ping Tour 70X Hybrid: Ping G425 22*, Ping Tour 80X Irons: Ping i230 4-GW, TT DG X100 Wedges: SMS 50D/54V/58DModus 130 stiff, +1” Putter: EAS 1.0 Ball: Titleist 2023 AVX
Popular Post sirchunksalot
I got nine holes in this evening after grocery shopping. My wife didn't sleep too good last night and decided to take a nap, so it was the perfect chance to head to the course. I decided to move up a set of tees to have a chance to score well and the round started out good. I peppered a drive to leave an 81 shot approach shot into the green. Hit it a little thin and was over the back. It took two chips to get it on the green and I two putted for a double. I'll not complain too much about that. I bogeyed the second and it looked like things were going to plan, then the wheels fell off. I went +21 over the next 5 holes with two nines and a ten. Nothing was working and five lost golf balls killed my round. The only thing I had going for me was the putter. I had two one putts and one three putt from 7 feet. I hit the first one 9 feet past the hole, came up short on the second, and tapped in. Other than that, I gained .83 strokes against my putting handicap of 17. I shot 64 with 17 putts. My game has been a train wreck lately, it's frustrating. I've just got to keep plugging along at the swing changes I'm working on and hopefully by early next year, I'll see some progress.
