Problem is that my wife and I play with other couples and friends that are 20-25 years younger than I am, and they like playing from our Blues tees. I've been playing there for the past 6 years, and I can navigate around the course pretty well most of the time. Our sister course is longer, but actually easier to play than our course... if I played from the senior tees!! My level of play over the past handful of rounds has been as good as its ever been. We played Mesa Del Sol yesterday and I tied my personal best from over 30 years ago with a 37/37 . 2 bogies and one birdie on the front and one bogey on the back. The guys I played with are not our groups better golfers and, when we got in after the round to have a beer, they insisted I transfer my score onto a clean card - saying "we don't want our train wrecks tarnishing that performance" . They mentioned how consistent I was hitting everything and that I hit every fairway and green in regulation. I knew I hadn't, so we went back through the round and annotated those on the new card. The tally; 13/14 FIR and 12/18 GIR. 32 putts and no penalties. Putting for birdie more often and having short putts for pars is a game I hope stays with me a while longer. I probably shouldn't have just opened that can or worms but he already beat me down and I bounced back. That was my first thought as well.....His PB was driven by getting revenge on Yellow Ball. Now YB will be taking credit for improving everyone's game!! I got out for 18 this afternoon with SWMBO who was trying out the 'new to her' G410 irons. She really hit them well, getting a lot more height and using about 1 club less than she was used to. I struggled on the front trying to figure out the winter time green speeds and shot 43, then recovered to a 38 on the back. The Sub70 driver is still crushing it and keeping them in the fairway at an 9/11 clip! The two that missed were a combined 3 yards into the rough. I was really pleased with the irons today as well. I had been doing some net sessions the last few weeks working on shaft lean and hitting down and through. With the cold weather and stiff body I was playing 1 to 1-1/2 clubs more but was still getting close to normal distances which had me over a few greens early resulting in 3 double bogies when I also 3 putted in the first 4 holes. Finally adjusted to the distances and the greens on hole 5 and shot 3 over the rest of the way in. Felt good to get out & hit some crisp irons. I broke out the soft Callaway and Srixon balls I had collected over the summer. They seem to play well in cold weather. There are some upsides to global warming, we still have temps in the 60’s. We may pay the price next summer due to a lack of moisture but for now it’s game on! Played at Patty Jewitt again on Saturday and ended up with the same score, 81. No 8’s on the card though! Rickp
Played Friday and this morning 9. I’m at the “bottom” of the Roller Coaster ride again. Both mornings cold (43-46) light wind. First 3 holes really bad , all over the place then kind of straighten out. I still haven’t gotten thru my thick skull that when it’s that cold to add a club or 2. Greens both courses were not bad, cut both mornings and were rolling decent. Made a couple decent putts to save Par. Tomorrow morning Weatherman is threatening 39*!! fozcycle
Played Cresc3nt Oaks in TarponnSprings, FL today as our club was over seeding. Played the back nine first so I shot a 47(back 9)/46(front 9): 93. Struck the ball well off the tee but approach shots not so good. Seemed like all my wedges came up a club short today. That said, I did have a birdie on the par 5 #2 hole and it held in the net skins game for $12…woo hoo! BTW, temp was 48* at tee time and warmed up to 64*. Popular Post fixyurdivot
Followed up the 74 with a solid 84 at Desert Hills today... I absolutely knew the Golf Gods were going to hammer me for making that post and updating my index . The pins were in the toughest positions we'd ever seen; some just downright nasty. I told myself several times NOT to get above the pin because of the severe downslope. I don't follow my own advice too well. Fortunately none of those ended up costing me too much, but the par 3's had my number as I DB all but #17. The pitcher of Kiltlifter after the round made things all better. Syks7
Had a good day today. I want to lament the two three putts that would have given me a 79, but 81 will do. I'm also quite pleased that I kept the card free of doubles for the first time in months. Pretty close to an 'exceptional' score in the index, but not quite. It was a tale of two 9's. Shot 44 on the front then went on a tear and was 2 under through 15 before the bogies caught back up with me again. I knew what the score was on 18 and went for it trying to get another birdie before the golf gods gently said not today. I hit a great drive, a very poor three wood into a tree, then was in jail for the third shot. Still, I had to go for it. So I attempted a hero shot under a low tree branch with what I thought was a hooded 4 iron -- Turns out my tags told me after the fact that it was a 6 iron. . I struck it really well... directly into the large limb I was trying to get it under. Fortunately it caught the bottom and kicked forward leaving me with 133. I didn't hit that particularly well either leaving me with a very long two putt which I converted for Bogie. Driver was outstanding all day. Long Irons were hit and Miss Short Irons & Wedges were very solid Chipping Pitching didn't hurt me today & were fairly solid otherwise. Putter -- was very iffy on the front, lots of missed opportunities, then got hot on the back. Side note I decided to clean sweep my game golf profile and start fresh. It's kind of nice to have all this data again. https://www.gamegolf.com/player/jgilliam77/round/3123616 Edited December 2, 2021 by Syks7 Rickp, fixyurdivot, JerryB and 5 others 8 Quote Driver 0811XT -- Tensei CK Orange 60 Woods 0211 3W -- Tensei AV Raw Blue Hybrids 0317X 2&4 -- Tensei AV Raw Blue Irons ZX7 4/AW -- C-Taper Lite 110 Wedges RTX Zipcore 56 Mid @55° -- TT DG Spinner Putter DF2.1 or Link.1 -- Accra Ball Zstar Diamond

I almost froze my ass off just walking the dog that you see above. I suppose that I could try DeSantisland myself if it weren't for the warrants. Have fun, Foz. I know you can do better with that GIR number. Thanks BostonSal, I have been playing with a torn tendon in my right shoulder from auto accident in July(waiting for SWMBO to recover from her shoulder surgery before I get mine) my right leg is numb from 3 bulging lower back discs, hoping for relief in mid December from a Radio Frequency Ablation(from same accident). It is what it is so I’m not gonna sweat it. BTW, at 48* we still wear shorts and a light pullover. Probably because I use a 1990s flip phone and don't know how to text, I can't translate SWMBO, but I certainly wish her the best as well. As for here, I've gone back to wearing a covid mask while walking the dog, not for health reasons--I've had my three jabs-- but to keep my face warm. Also, with a hoodie and Ray Bans, I kind of like the Darth Vader look. sirchunksalot and MattF 2 Quote Louisville Golf Persimmon___2, 4, 5, 7-woods; Epon AF-906___driving iron; Titleist T100 5, 6, 7, 8, 9-irons; Titleist T100S___48°; Edison 2.0___53º; Titleist SM-9 (T)___58º; Tad Moore Otto Hackbarth___putter; Titleist Pro V1x___ball
