50* this morning but no wind!  Course was in awful shape, greens/tees horrible.  Got a few pars but spent more time looking for my Buddy Wayward shorts, the guy is really struggling.

I was happy with Driver & irons, dunno about Putting with the green as bad as it was.  Missed 2 Birdies but blaming greens.

I'm starting to worry about you. If you are driving around looking for your buddies shorts you are hanging around with the wrong group! 🤣

Son and I both played like garbage today.  Real windy and chilly; just not a pleasant morning.  I forgot my golf shoes and in retrospect it was a sign, lol.

Everything was more miss than hit for both of us.  We both parred the par 3 4th and that was easily the highlight of the day.  Driver and 3wood were both misbehaving and we lost a ton of balls.  Hole 6 was a disaster and we thought about quitting at the turn.

Hole 10 was awful and we decided that if we both teed poorly on the par 3 11th (over water) that we were done.  He topped his straight into the drink but I put my 6 iron within ten feet, my best iron strike in weeks.  12, 13, and 14 were back to terrible and by then we'd caught up to traffic so we played 15 and called it a day.

Of course I holes an absolutely beautiful lag putt on 15 to leave on a high note, which means...

Not a good day boys….

4 holes into a tournament today, I felt a pop in the back of my leg, just above the ankle and below the calf muscle. Second time this has happened in about a month. 🙄 My first thought was my Achilles, but I don’t think that’s what it is. It feels like I pulled something though, and I’m limping pretty badly.

I tried to play two more holes, but I couldn’t push off the back leg, and was using all arms… Not good. Finally had to WD after feeling a sharp pain when exiting a very shallow bunker. The Ranger came out and drove me to my car.

The timing couldn’t be worse. I’m driving 700 miles up to Long Island Thursday. It’s my left leg so at least I caught a break with that, I guess. I’m probably going to leave the clubs down here now, and take a few weeks off.

... So close to 20mph winds today and it was a challenge on some holes. Had my 2nd Eagle in the last 2 rounds hitting a 5 iron to 6 feet on a 495yd par 5 that is downhill off the tee and uphill to the green. Perfect combination of a front pin and straight downwind. Added 2 more birdies and 4 bogies. Putting in the gusty conditions was the most difficult as I hold my putter very loosely in my fingers and the gusts blew the putter around and it was hard to hole birdie putts. At least my speed was good and I had quite a few tap ins.

.. Quartering wind was tough especially when it turned back into and then sideways so happy with just 4 bogies in that wind. Really hitting these MIM irons well and STILL hitting my driver poorly but starting to turn a corner and get my body out of my driver swing. One step at a time.

Nice!  The wind has been about the same here lately, and I've got news for you:

... and the gusts blew the putter around and it was hard to hole birdie putts.

Those same gusts blow the putter around and it's just as hard to hole par and bogey putts!!  🤣

Played 9 with my 4 year old daughter today, just a great day to get out and hang with her. Played the cheapest course around, but shot 41 which I was happy with. Happy overall and a great time with my daughter, but she liked golf clash game mod better. Hit driver great, really only hit one bad drive, rest pretty much were great with a small draw and long. Greens were terrible but I was able to make one long putt to save par and make a couple of others as well.

I got out for 9 this morning. Scored a couple of pars and my driving continues to be a positive as was my putting. No 3 putts and a 25 footer for par on 9. It’s the stuff in between that is the problem at the moment. Mostly irons as my chipping was been good as well. Sandra Gal posted a chipping tip that worked for me.
I was in Golf Galaxy yesterday picking up some balls and I tried the new putters from Bettinardi but honestly the way the ER11v that I tested on the forum last year has been rolling, I am not replacing that anytime soon. I have rolled more long putts with that putter than any other putter I’ve ever used. It’s achieved the status of “pry it from my cold dead hands”. I was initially put off by the sound/feel but I no longer notice it.

Was finally able to start my year on Sunday. It was cool and windy, you know typical early year round for up here. As I said to a new playing partner this morning, if the first round of the year does not feel a bit silly to be out there then your not starting the year early enough. Definitely had some rust with the full swing, driver took a bit to find and it was a bit of thin to win on the driver. The putter started off hot though this year though especially on the 5 to 8 foot range where I mad a couple of good par saves. I even got a birdie on the 10th (the 1st again as only the front nine was open). Went out in 41 but came home in 38 to shoot 79 which is always a great way to start the year.

Looking forward to some better weather were a picture of the course would not look terrible. Just feels good to be back in the golfing season.

Cold wet windy 105 for first 18 of year. Dad rode along. Had a couple bunkers I struggled to get out of since they were mud. Driver was hit or miss. Short game and putting saved me. Only one 3 putt.

Man, what a difference a day makes!  Yesterday was cold, wet, and windy.  Today was still pretty breezy, but in the low 60s and sunnier.  We hit the gym this morning and decided to squeeze in nine before work.  We played the back nine at River Heights.  Everything felt better today.  I switched from my Volvik Power Soft orange balls to Spalding Pure Whites, both of which I'd managed to pick up for $5 a dozen over the winter.  The Pure Whites are pretty good off the driver and on the green but feel terrible on approach.  But anyway...

I posted a +13 49 and Owen was +10 which would have been better had he not blown up on the last hole.  I played well for me and most importantly, nearly every stroke was a clean shot.  Everything really felt good.  Driver was great minus a wild duck hook on 16.  Only lost one ball today which was fantastic compared to yesterday.  All in all, a very enjoyable round and one that really had me considering calling in and playing another 18 instead.

Got out to a local club this morning I didn’t play last year other than a tournament.

they have been doing a ton of tree work which is nice to see because the greens and tee boxes were getting shaded out. Should be a really good year for them can’t wait.

This course is one that chews me up on the front and plays a little more to my strengths on the back. Shot my best I have ever shot there today. 41/38.

1 bird, 10 pars, 6 bogeys and a lone double (penalty on a par 3 dohhhhh)

Other than in the first hole where I smoked my 3 wood I struggled with it, and the front requires a lot of non driver shots that I didn’t do spectacular with. I made up for my woes with really strong wedges and putting. Easily saved multiple doubles with that play and even scrounged pars from a few which is such a good feeling.

I got into a groove 9-15 where everything was clicking. Went par, par, birdie, par, par, par.

Got drizzled on for a bit but was an absolutely great day to be out

the course is a beast to walk and by 18 my legs were toast. I topped my driver and 2 hybrids and was still 110 out. Came up 10 yards short with my gap and ended up chipping in from about 20 yards to save a sub 80 round

Got drizzled on for a bit but was an absolutely great day to be out

Great round Mark! I'm glad to hear you were able to get out and play.

It’s been a fantastic early spring I hope it keeps up. Told myself end of last year I was not passing up good weather anymore. Missed September and October last year prepping for employees to return to site (they didn’t come back until March). Will never do it again. Only live once right?

I think that's the right attitude to have.  Get out there any time you can and make the most of it.
