My first trip to AZ to play golf was in 1993... in July!!  It was on the other course at TPC Scottsdale; not sure what it's called now.  It was fairly new at the time and not much vegetation in the desert between fairways, and back then I mostly missed fairways!!  This sign was EVERYWHERE!!!

IMG_1808.jpeg.bef320ba22797c7c389652696b37ba21.jpeg

... Oh sure Kenny, I have seen lots of signs but no actual snakes. Got a serious warning playing Southern Dunes last Spring when the Rattlers had their babies and we were told DO NOT go into any grassy areas if you hit your ball there, just take a free drop and leave your ball. Never saw a Rattler although 2 bunkers had snake trails in them.

Lessons doing you any good or was today just a one-off-stinker-upper bad day?

Well, I have been playing better with the lessons, so maybe today was that off day… I did have a pre-diabetic meltdown about 2 hours before I played, so I was a bit depleted I suppose… I’m having a hard time with figuring out what I can or can’t eat these days, and if I chose wrong it turns into a bad day… this getting old is a hard business…

... I have played at least 500 rounds in Phoenix and that is the first snake I have seen on a golf course. Of course I always play twilite so they aren't out in the hot sun and that King snake is usually nocturnal, hunting for rodents at night because of the heat. But it was only 68* yesterday with a 30mph wind. Actually that is the first snake I have seen here period. I saw more snakes when I lived in NC.

Funny you say that I saw more snakes in CT than FL, but Gators not many in Northeast.

Went into work a little early and worked through lunch so I cut out of the office around 3. Decided to try to little executive 9 hole course a few towns over instead of hitting the nearby range. It's mostly pretty short par 3s tucked in between houses with small greens so made for some good short iron practice. It was almost completely empty so I was able to play through pretty quickly. Irons were fine but I'm still adjusting to some extra distance recently. Greens were tough to judge distance so I left a lot of longer than I wanted 2nd putts. It was a nice little stress free practice session in my mind. At least with the irons, the practice swing is starting to translate to the on course swing, so I'll take that.

It's been cold and snowing since we left Yuma.  Currently working on an offer for a house in SCG.  After almost 6 months of house hunting while there in AZ, this one pops up 2 days after we get back to MT 🙄.  But, my brother and SIL are at their place in SCF and looked at it with the realtor, so we feel pretty good having family eye's/opinion. One can ****** about playing in the heat but at least you can play.

House prices are nuts almost everywhere.  We're in shock at what properties around us here in rural MT are going for. So for many, the price escalation works on both sides of the equation and is pretty much a wash. Bozeman is projected to be the next Denver.  Many older folks there are looking at surrounding areas that keep them close to family but not in the new Bozeman they did not grow up with.

Seems the pandemic has done a couple of things; clearly shown companies that traditional brick & mortar offices are not really needed (remote office works) and that a good many people no longer want to live in megatropolus.  Rural living has become attractive to lots more folks.

Got off work early yesterday to play 9 holes with my brothers. Season so far is off to a good start!

IMG_4203.JPG.d580a736e8d83be7f419673117f39df9.JPG

I've been more selective lately about when I pull driver (only used it twice) and been more conservative and deliberate with my shot selection (much more laying up, etc) and it seems to be paying off. My putting wasn't very good, but it was nice to see approach shots with the highest strokes gained - I don't think that's ever happened before.

Shot decent, but hit a few “absolute new swing” shots that were amazing, and not only that, but long!

like my 8 iron was my 135 club, now it’s 145-150 on those sweet hits. I’ve started getting some “never seen before” hits that are drool inducing…

butttt, haven’t strung a full game together yet with them all… but it’s coming….

Glimmer of hope on the front 9 that some of my form was returning.  Shattered that glimmer on the back nine as my wedges either dug into the soft mud beneath the turf or bounced into the ball sending it across the green.  4 doubles on the back.  86 for the day with 2 birdies.

Got out with @DiscipleofPenick today. Course was in pretty good shape and drier than my league course. Still some plugged balls and little roll, but decent. Hard part was the wind: 18-25 mph with gusts up to 45 mph. I ended up with a +15 86 after 40/46. Back 9 is a little longer and irons were too fat too often. An example of what happened because of the wind:

Don't forget the greens were still recovering from aeration too! It was a fun day and great to get out for my first round of the year. Chipping was the only bad spot, but touch was starting to come back as the round went on. Regularly had to go up 2-3 clubs on approach shots. I hit them well, but didn't hit many greens given the wind. Kept my head in it and didn't let the tough conditions frustrate me. I feel really good about the way the season started and looking forward to the next round.

Rain/Snow mix 40º and 12 mph wind = cancelled tee time.

Rain supposed to quit around 5pm and it should be 45º with only 5mph wind; might head out for a late nine.

Played at Windmill yesterday and it was like playing and walking on a sponge. Lost a few balls in the fairway due to plugging. We could see where they hit but just couldn't find them because they'd gone deep. So drop in the area and keep going.

Ended up carding a 43/39 82 for the first "official" round of the season. Which put my handicap down to a 14 even.

You played the Windmill! Did the 18th hole have a clowns mouth too. 34 putts for mini golf is a little high. 🤣
