I’ve been chomping at the bit reading this thread. After almost a month without being able to swing a club, my lower leg is finally feeling better. I caught a break with this, as the original prognosis (an issue with the my Achilles’ tendon) was incorrect.
I’m going to take it slow though, and just practice the short game for a week or so, and take it from there.

I’m hoping the leg will be good enough to make the 700 mile drive from NY to Myrtle Beach, as I’ve had about enough of this Long Island “Spring” weather. 🙄

I’m looking forward to boring the hell out of you guys again with my exploits on the course again!

Welcome back and play well at “The Beach”👍

It's good to hear your leg is feeling better and I'm looking forward to hearing how you play once you can get back on the course. Hopefully you can make the trip to Myrtle Beach and play some of the great courses there.

Absolute perfect day. Started cool in the 50s but sun came out around hole 9 and warmed up. Was gorgeous.

Tale of 9’s for me. 44/37. I was discussing with Bryan after the round that I remember just 3 years ago 44 was a goal and was happy with that, now I felt like I struggled. Love this game.

I had 4 doubles on the front (3 of which had penalties of the tee), 4 pars and a bird on 9. From there I went 6 pars a bird and 2 bogeys. Was a great back.

I had two way misses going on the front and awful wedge play. Yet again putting saved my @$$ multiple times. I hunkered down on 9 and worked through it, was nice to be able to do that.

couple highlights:

Looks like a beautiful day to be out there, Mark! Man, you hit a couple of bombs! It's good to hear you were able to settle down in the back and post 37, that's a great way to end and leaves you wanting to come back for more.

I gotta get a bigger umbrella to cover me a bit better, but having that shade sure was nice. I'm a bit on the pasty side and thought that plus a lot of sunblock might keep me from being mistaken for a lobster.

I left work early today to get the windshield replaced on my car, so I decided it was a perfect day to get out and play nine. The weather was wonderful, 85 degrees and a slight wind. I did have to set up an umbrella on Johnny 5 to keep from roasting.

20220512_151333-01.jpeg.1011adf185d39a69e2b4d4907970571d.jpeg

I'm not going to say I shot well or bad, it's my first round in two months due to a loss of confidence in my game. I treated today as practice and just getting back into the rhythm of the game.

My round started out rough, I had to play a different course than normal and there's no practice area. I lost three balls on the first three holds and hit a fourth OB that I found. Those first holes I started out +3, +3, and +8. That third hole was brutal, three lost balls didn't help much. At least it was pretty out.

20220512_144943-01.jpeg.420070692ca32f6ec1780002c64dce10.jpeg

After that, I settled into a rhythm and had a run of double, double, and three bogeys. One of the highlights of my round was being 2 feet over the green on the first par five and hitting the green in regulation on the second, although I 3 putted the second one from 39 feet. In fairness, it was an uphill breaker I aimed 6 feet to the right of and just didn't hit it hard enough.

20220512_154823-01.jpeg.68e585f3e8c36a52b5f4caae19e407a9.jpeg

Driver was horrible most of the day, but I hit my irons better than I have in a long time. The putter was really good most of the round except for a couple of 3 putts on tricky greens. On the 9th I hit my best shot of the day from 47 yards out, left of the flag into the slope and it rolled down to 11 feet. Unfortunately, it left a downhill left to right breaker I ran 13 feet past the hole.

20220512_161218-01.jpeg.a0276d8be2ca1adc71d028d4b8e112d1.jpeg

Overall, I shot a 60 with 20 putts which normally would be a little discouraging but with the way I hit my irons I'm feeling pretty good.

Maybe I need to start breaking my windshield more often. 🧐

glad you got out there on a beautiful day! Got my first 9 of the year scheduled for Sunday with my brother and my son, so that will be fun!

sometimes just getting out there with zero expectations is the best for our games. Hoping your confidence starts building with this round!

... All sports success is predicated on a self belief. As much as Jay Cutler was loathed by some, I loved him saying that after throwing 4 picks to one Packer DB in a game, if there were time left in the game he would have thrown at him again. If you don't believe you will be successful, you won't be.

... In an acting class I took when I fist started out, the goal was to walk into a space and experience it without trying to do anything. It is a lesson in not trying to act or perform but just BE. You were supposed to just stand up and walk on the stage when you felt the urge to do so. Maybe 20 actors in that class. I did it twice in 2 classes and just got lost in my own thoughts walking around, siting down or standing on stage and did pretty much nothing but experience the space and after the second class the instructor gave me back my tuition and said the class had nothing to teach me. He referenced a guy that would jump up every change chance he got and was sooooo determined to "experience the stage" but alway did things like touch an object or pick it up and look at it and in general do everything but just experience the space. He had ben up at least 10 times in that 2nd class and when he literally jumped up and started toward the stage the instructor yelled "Sit The F*CK Down!  You are already trying to perform as you left your seat!". Another actor got up, failed and received some instructive criticism before this guy immediately but sheepishly got up again and started toward the stage and the instructor told him to sit down because now he was trying hard not to act when he was supposed to be just experiencing and not trying anything.

... That student reminded me of a golf because the exercise is both easy and extremely difficult at the same time and if struggling the only way to be successful is to keep a positive attitude and keep doing it til you get it right. Many would have quit trying to experience the stage but this guy was not going to be deterred. I would advise you to be that guy!  After failing 10 times he could hardly wait to fail the 11th time. Ignore your failures and revel in your successes. Initially you will fail more often than you will succeed but you will succeed if you think you will. And then keep building off that success. You obviously have the work ethic, passion and you have it in you but you just have to believe in yourself as much of the rest of us here believe in you! 🤗

That's a great story, Sam! I can't imagine how hard it would be not to act when you're taking a class to act. Sometimes it's just good to experience the stage, or in our case, the golf course and simply enjoy the time we have out there.

... The main point to take from this is you are swinging a club and hitting a ball. Acting is just being what you say you are being, not acting like what you think that is. Just go up and experience the stage without acting like you are experiencing the stage. Like a little girl being a princess and having a tea party that ceases to be a little girl because she IS a princess. For little kids, pretend is very real. No thoughts of how to be a princess, what is the right way to stand, sit or what would a real princess say ...  just be a princess and everything you do will be what a princess does. Once you start thinking about how to do it, you risk over analyzing. You are just swinging a club and hitting a golf ball and again it is very easy and very difficult at the same time. Everyone will tell you when they had their best rounds, they had no thoughts of how, just where to hit the ball. That is the goal. Just trust the swing you have and hit the best shots you can hit with that swing on that day believing you will hit more good shots than bad. And if you don't, be confident you will be a princess good player the next time.

PS. This sinus infection has been kicking my a$$ but feel like I am coming out the other side. Not leaving the house for a week and no golf for 7 days when new irons arrived 7 days ago has me posting more than normal. 🤪

Got out on day release from quarantine yesterday (It's actually day 6 so I'm allowed to leave the house with a mask). Weird day, shot a +13 48 front and a +4 39 back for an 87. I guess your playing partners do make a difference. The two brothers I played the front with were hackers but they left after 9 and I played by myself on the back.

Glad to hear you're doing better, at least health wise😄. Sorry you got stuck with hackers. Are you still playing mostly at Windmill? Did we get a new date for the Ohio meetup?

Played my 4th round of the year, and things have been steadily declining. 82 89 87 96. With absolutely no control of the golf ball, 4 OB, and 2 straight pushes into the bush. A long time friend the Shanks even played a few holes with us towards the end, which was a nice surprise culminating in a fantastic afternoon!

This season I came with a goal of a stronger mental mindset to golf, and enjoying the time on the course instead of chasing numbers. I have not done done well with this goal and can't even bring myself to hit balls at a range right now.

Can't wait for league to start on Tuesday.
