Popular Post Grand Stranded
I’ve been chomping at the bit reading this thread. After almost a month without being able to swing a club, my lower leg is finally feeling better. I caught a break with this, as the original prognosis (an issue with the my Achilles’ tendon) was incorrect. I’m going to take it slow though, and just practice the short game for a week or so, and take it from there. I’m hoping the leg will be good enough to make the 700 mile drive from NY to Myrtle Beach, as I’ve had about enough of this Long Island “Spring” weather. I’m looking forward to boring the hell out of you guys again with my exploits on the course again! Popular Post MattWillGolf
A beautiful morning for 9 holes. Sunny and 73°. Another round with the driver not getting me into trouble. The only lost ball was into a pond on a par 3. The highlight of my round was my first sand save of the season for par. Chipping is still giving me problems more practice is for certain. My putting was solid for me, no 3 putts and two 1 putts. Seeing continued improvement in my iron play. All in all it was a good round for me. Popular Post GolfSpy_SHARK
Absolute perfect day. Started cool in the 50s but sun came out around hole 9 and warmed up. Was gorgeous. Tale of 9’s for me. 44/37. I was discussing with Bryan after the round that I remember just 3 years ago 44 was a goal and was happy with that, now I felt like I struggled. Love this game. I had 4 doubles on the front (3 of which had penalties of the tee), 4 pars and a bird on 9. From there I went 6 pars a bird and 2 bogeys. Was a great back. I had two way misses going on the front and awful wedge play. Yet again putting saved my @$$ multiple times. Popular Post sirchunksalot
I left work early today to get the windshield replaced on my car, so I decided it was a perfect day to get out and play nine. The weather was wonderful, 85 degrees and a slight wind. I did have to set up an umbrella on Johnny 5 to keep from roasting. I'm not going to say I shot well or bad, it's my first round in two months due to a loss of confidence in my game. I treated today as practice and just getting back into the rhythm of the game. My round started out rough, I had to play a different course than normal and there's no practice area. I lost three balls on the first three holds and hit a fourth OB that I found. Those first holes I started out +3, +3, and +8. That third hole was brutal, three lost balls didn't help much. At least it was pretty out. After that, I settled into a rhythm and had a run of double, double, and three bogeys. One of the highlights of my round was being 2 feet over the green on the first par five and hitting the green in regulation on the second, although I 3 putted the second one from 39 feet. In fairness, it was an uphill breaker I aimed 6 feet to the right of and just didn't hit it hard enough. Driver was horrible most of the day, but I hit my irons better than I have in a long time. The putter was really good most of the round except for a couple of 3 putts on tricky greens. On the 9th I hit my best shot of the day from 47 yards out, left of the flag into the slope and it rolled down to 11 feet. Unfortunately, it left a downhill left to right breaker I ran 13 feet past the hole. Overall, I shot a 60 with 20 putts which normally would be a little discouraging but with the way I hit my irons I'm feeling pretty good. Sometimes it's just good to experience the stage, or in our case, the golf course and simply enjoy the time we have out there. ... The main point to take from this is you are swinging a club and hitting a ball. Acting is just being what you say you are being, not acting like what you think that is. Just go up and experience the stage without acting like you are experiencing the stage. Like a little girl being a princess and having a tea party that ceases to be a little girl because she IS a princess. For little kids, pretend is very real. No thoughts of how to be a princess, what is the right way to stand, sit or what would a real princess say ... just be a princess and everything you do will be what a princess does. Once you start thinking about how to do it, you risk over analyzing. You are just swinging a club and hitting a golf ball and again it is very easy and very difficult at the same time. Everyone will tell you when they had their best rounds, they had no thoughts of how, just where to hit the ball. That is the goal. Just trust the swing you have and hit the best shots you can hit with that swing on that day believing you will hit more good shots than bad. And if you don't, be confident you will be a princess good player the next time. PS. This sinus infection has been kicking my a$$ but feel like I am coming out the other side. Popular Post Sluggo42
Kinda been hacking the last few rounds, thinking about other things. My “new” swing sort of was slipping away and I didn’t really notice. Then on the 13th after a drive behind a tree, I had to hit a draw. then I started thinking about how to hit a draw, and then I remembered all my recent lessons, and how I’d been slipping away from them. So, I went through the lessons set up and swing, and darn if I didn’t his a great shot with a nice draw around that tree. I played to par the rest of the round and was happy that I remembered. moral of the story is that it can be very easy to stray from “new things”, but if you do, don’t be stubborn stupid, and get back onto that pony… cksurfdude, Shapotomous, JerryB and 9 others 12 Quote TSr2 on tensi blue stiff Speedzone 3-wood on Tensi blue S Epic Max 5 and 7 woods on HZRDUS Reg flex Paradym 9 wood on HZRDUS reg flex P770 / P790 combo set on Ventus R-6 shafts 6-AW T22 Denim Copper 54°, 58° on Kinetic X Trajectory ER3 or, E.A.S. #4 (“Fang” or “Adele”) ProV1x, or, Maxfli Tour X .Org 14 cart bag Adidas Tour 360 , or Sketcher shoes
Popular Post Syks7
As I'd hoped my home course did indeed feel a mile wide after my last two rounds. 40/43 83 in a men's club tourney. I flirted with 80 all day and played pretty well save for #14 when I forgot how to play golf and tripled. 9 Pars on the day, which may be a personal record for me. My putting was lights out today except for a single three putt -- 31 total putts, two 30+ ft putts to get up and down + a ton of of them that burned the edge leaving me with 6" tap in's for bogey, same for all the pars I made in regulation. The par put was 1' or less. Just couldn't get a birdie to drop. If I'd been a bit luckier the score could have been in exceptional territory. Short game was also pretty exceptional for once. Left myself with a lot of reasonable chances. Off the tee and on approach I was okay, not great, but reasonable. I've been trying to smooth things out, but doing the towel drill tucked under my trail arm. I decided to just swing at that tempo all day and surprise, surprise, a smoothly swung iron that hits the center of the face goes further than aggressively swung hit off the toe or heel. Credit to my instructor on that one. He posted a video of his swing (which he rarely does) this morning and I thought man I just want to swing smooth like that all day... which became my swing thought for the day. Popular Post MattF
Got out on day release from quarantine yesterday (It's actually day 6 so I'm allowed to leave the house with a mask). Weird day, shot a +13 48 front and a +4 39 back for an 87. I guess your playing partners do make a difference. The two brothers I played the front with were hackers but they left after 9 and I played by myself on the back. Popular Post DiscipleofPenick
Went for 9 last night, very slow play as we were following leagues around. Birdied the first hole and parred the last 3 for a 40. Wasn't focused for some of the middle holes, but got it back to close it out. Also it was the first real 9 holes of the year, as in it wasn't CPO or below 50 out. Popular Post MDGolfHacker
Played my league round this past Wednesday. Practiced putting throughout the week up to the round...what I should of done is actually hit the driver and irons more as well While the driver didn't go too wonky on me, the irons were just all over the place. Oh, and the putting wasn't sharp either which contributed to a less than stellar round. I will admit, our closing two holes, a par 5 and par 4 I kind of gave up on especially the par 5 which I went for the green in two out of frustration (which I never do since water comes into play) and ended up with a bad lie a little short of the green, contributing to a bogey and the last hole I was 4' away on a left to right breaking putt for par. Burned the left edge of the cup (did that a lot during this round - I should of just aimed at the center of the dang cup!) Oh well, there's always next week! Popular Post cksurfdude
So you know how high school team coaches like to say "It's a building/development year"? Well that's the way I'm looking at my last round (and not as a train wreck disaster sloppy mess ) Was out there trying to apply some of the good stuff from my recent lessons and, of course, while it's still new ... it's still a little uncomfortable when actually trying to hit golf ball to a target..... So a lotta lotta misses buuut .. on the flip side even tho the misses were ugly none of them were really all too terrible. Seemed to find some overhanging branches on a few tee shots which - perversely - I'm gonna consider a bit of progress as these were right pushes vs low-left pull hooks... Putting, though, really was a disappointment - last round had a good handle on both speed and line, and in my warm-up for this round was putting the ball to where I wanted like 9 / 10 times. Oh well I'll just have to say it again: Work In Progress. Rickp, sirchunksalot, chisag and 9 others 12 Quote WITB of an "aspiring" play-ah ... AVILACA23
Played my 4th round of the year, and things have been steadily declining. 82 89 87 96. With absolutely no control of the golf ball, 4 OB, and 2 straight pushes into the bush. A long time friend the Shanks even played a few holes with us towards the end, which was a nice surprise culminating in a fantastic afternoon! This season I came with a goal of a stronger mental mindset to golf, and enjoying the time on the course instead of chasing numbers. I have not done done well with this goal and can't even bring myself to hit balls at a range right now. Can't wait for league to start on Tuesday. sirchunksalot, cksurfdude, JerryB and 5 others 8 Quote SIM - 10.5* 2i - Cobra King Utility 4i-PW - Srixon z765 GW-SW-LW - RTX Zipcore (50* 54* 58*) P - Spider Tour Custom 11.9 hdcp

Oh well I'll just have to say it again: Work In Progress. Lessons… it is SOOoooo easy to revert back. You can do it without even trying… (see what I did there?) so yesterday I re-reverted back to playing to lessons and shot better, and today I started off in full lesson mode. I also recently changed to an interlock grip vs the overlay, and that’s becoming habit now. And I’ve also got the club out from the palms, and into the fingers, if that makes any sense to you. End result was a very good game today, with many good shots i did have a few clacks though, but for some reason, I had a few really nice “up and downs” to save par. the trick to lessons, is to use what you learn, and make the “new swing”, the normal swing..
