Popular Post CarlH
My club is having our annual Highland Fling tournament (Ryder cup style) and today we played 3 9 hole matches. Match #1 was best ball. After 4 holes, my partner and I are down 4! Tough road now. I make a long putt to half the next hole and we're dormie. I hit a nice drive and have 108 yards to the pin, hit the shot a bit past the pin and to the left....still a makable birdie putt. The other twosome have reasonable par putts. I burn the edge of the cup and we lose the match. Match #2 is alternate shot. My playing partner for this match struggled. We lose the match 3 down with 1 to go. Match 3 is another best ball. All square through 7 holes. I birdie the 8th hole to go 1 up and we're guaranteed at least 1/2 point. My partner birdies the last hole for the win and full point. Tomorrow -- 18 hole single match play and I'm squared off against the guy from the first match who waxed us. Popular Post berkeleybob
Horrible. We had a holiday on Friday, wife’s got the day off on Monday, so we decided to have an impromptu weekend on the coast at a local summer home resort. Packed our car with overnight bags, food, dog and golf gear and headed off. I was so eager to play the resort’s 9-hole, with its par 3s, 4s and 5 that upon arrival I ran out to the course for an afternoon round. As I was warming up, I shanked a ball, then a second, then a third ... I thought for sure I could get rid of it on the first hole. Nope. Breathing, stretching, telling myself to relax—I just couldn’t stop the shanks. To make matters worse, the beautiful course looked like this: Tall grass means water hazards, they are everywhere, and I found them all. I can’t remember the last time I lost so many balls. The round was a lost cause, so I used it to get rid of my shanks. Realizing that I only had three balls left sobered me up at the 6th hole. I finally calmed down and bogeyed the 7th, bogeyed the 8th, and parred the 9th. Talk about collapsing at the finish line—I’m grateful to have played only nine holes. I don’t think I would have been able to finish 18. Playing a new course threw me, for sure, but this was ridiculous. Hoping to claim redemption tomorrow. JerryB
Owen and I played Sycamore Golf Club today. I put my new garage sale finds in the bag and they weren't bad. Probably weren't any better than the ones they replaced either, but I like them well enough to stick with them for a bit. He actually only beat me by a few strokes, 89 for him and 93 for me. Wound up being one of my better rounds to date. We went out with the intent to take our time and really settle in, and aside from a few holes, it worked out well. (Who would have guessed, am I right??) I hit the new hybrid irons decently enough but again my issue is me and not the clubs. Driver was solid; good distance and relatively straight. Another instance where I believe I'm just not quite lined up properly. Putting was good for me. We usually leave the flag in since it was the rule when we started, but I've had six or seven putts in the last few rounds that we on line but hit the stick and bounced away. Started pulling the flag on the back and I holed one using the back of the cup as a backstop. Flag out from now on! Popular Post Kenny B
I wasn't going to post my birthday round today; it's really not worth reading... but here it is anyway. Rain quit just before wen teed off. My wife and I played with another couple that we play with frequently. The problem was that in front of us was our Men's Club member-guest followed by a small corporate tournament... bad day to play!! When we got to the #3 tee, we were the 5th group on this 350y par 4; group on the green, group in the fairway, and two other groups waiting on the tee in front of us. Aargh!! When it was our turn to tee off, we had been on the course for an hour and played two holes!!! I was ready to quit, but my wife and friends said "What else are we going to do?"... I said "Go to the bar!" I was overruled. The pace picked top a little when we got to the par 5 #5, but we still had to wait on every shot... the entire round! It was still golf, and we were outside in warm sunny weather with friends, but... dang!!! Couldn't get into any kind of rhythm. I had 12 bogeys and 6 pars for an 84... bogeyed the first 7 holes, but at least I kept doubles off the scorecard. Popular Post silver & black
Yesterday was a long, hot day. We started with a twosome in front of us that had a fivesome in front of them. We should have asked for our money back and went home... hindsight and all.. The fivesome was incredibly slow; the twosome was incredibly bad. They were everywhere off the tee... couldn't get to a green in less than 4 shots each and probably 3-5 putted every hole. I know people have to learn how to play, but pick some time other than prime time weekends to do it! Anyway... I shot 39 on the front. At the turn (after 2.5 hours) we figured more beer was going to be needed for the back. We were right! We waited no less than 10 - 15 minutes on every hole. The beer didn't last long. I ended the back with a 44... after 3 hrs. 15 min. Not a terrible score considering, but I don't understand how my brother and I always seem to have these people in front of us instead of behind us. The twosome offered to let us play through, but we would have had to wait on the fivesome anyway. So, we just drank beer and waited. It was an enjoyable day, really... just loooong! I don't understand why courses will let a fivesome out on a busy weekend. Oh well.... I hope next week is better. It almost has to be...right? Played really well on the front 9 and shot 39. But I completely $#!T the bed on the back with a devastating 47. The heat today just destroyed me at about hole 10 Picked up this dope murdered out cap Beautiful course And finally.. this is no joke. This actually happened. Luckily the hole ran downhill but not until about 300 yds so I still had to get there. 354 yds! Yes it is a nice Track. Get rid of Bogies and you’ll hit that 75!! cksurfdude, sirchunksalot, Kenny B and 3 others 6 Quote Rick Left Hand, Driver; PXG 0311XF Cypher 50 gr Senior 5 wood; Ping 425, Senior Shaft 55 gr 7 wood; Ping 425, Senior Shaft 55 gr 5 hybrid; Cally Steelhead, Hazardous R2 Irons; Mizuno JPX 923HM 7-GW Recoil 460 F2 Wedges; Titleist S9 54*, Mizuno SW 56* Putter; Waaay too many to list
Popular Post Mtbryant01
Played Windswept Dunes yesterday while at the beach down here in Florida with my dad and bro in law. Weather was perfect in the high 70s and sunny. I decided to challenge myself and play the tournament tees at 7300 yards. I shot a 78 with a double, some bogies, and a birdie. I had my driver working and some really nice up and downs to help my goal of breaking 80. My double consisted of a plugged ball into the side of a bunker. This was one of the worst I’ve ever seen as I could only see 5-6 dimples of the ball and the letter S from Snell. Avoided disaster by hacking at it and getting it to fall into the bottom of the trap. I highly suggest playing Windswept Dunes if you’re in the Destin/Panama City area in Florida. I know golf is expensive at the beach, but this course is a little bit of a hidden gem to me. Not on the beach, but still has that beachy vibe. 7 tee boxes to pick from, challenging green complexes, and unique course layout. Alright I’m done, back to the beach. sirchunksalot, vandyland, JerryB and 9 others 11 1 Quote Cobra Connect 5 participant G410 Plus, w/ X stiff 75 g Project X Evenflow Black shaft driver / Radspeed w/ Smoke RDX Blue 70S shaft Big Tour 3 wood/ 5 wood w/ Fujikura X F3 60S shaft 4 Hybrid w/ Project X Catalyst 80S shaft Copper MIM Tour Irons w/ KBS $ Taper Balck 120S shaft Snakebite 50, 54, and 58 wedges w/ KBS Hi-Rev 2.0 125S shaft Newport 2.5 putter MTB X golf balls RH, Alabama
