Short story was it ended in a 91, but took an 8 on perhaps the shortest and easiest hole on the course, just tried a couple hero shots after getting in trouble off the tee. Then got a horrible cart path bounce on my approach to a par 5 from 160 out and took a double. Shoudl be good enough to get me some points in the net division and move me up into the top 20 in the playoff standngs. Funny ancdeote on my ball today. Used the same ball for 18 holes, but in the course of the round it: (shotgun start so we didn't play them 1 to 18) started on 8. Hit a cartpath and took a 30 yard bounce on the first hole ended up in the bushes behind the hole. Ended up in more bushes off the tee shot on 18, from there dned up 3 feet deeper in said bushes, then hit anoher cart path finally getting out of the bushes Banged off the flag and settled to 6 feet on a par 3 Hit two electrical wires crossing from the far right rough as it was headed dead center of the green on a par 4 Then finally round it's final resting place from 6 feet on the 18th hole of the round. This ball deserves a special place on my bookshelf for surviving all that. I tried to lose it so many times and it just kep turning back up Was it a “Yellow Ball”? They’re pretty tough!! We didnt keep score and we didn't play our best but had a fun time. I got to see some of Stu's vintage clubs make their way in and out of the bag and I did manage to show Stu what my new driver can do. The weather behaved this time and we got all 18 in. Great to get out with a fellow Spy. It was also nice to have a course tour guide to tell me where to hit, which holes to club up on and such. The course had great layout but did need a little TLC. But value for the money was killer. It helps to know people who know people. The course owners took care of us. Stu decided that walking the course with his Motocaddy would not be in the cards in his future and since I did show a lot of interest during testing he decided to give it to me with the cart bag as well. That was totally out of the blue and shows that kind of guy he is. I was pretty floored with his generosity and he didn't want anything in return. He just wanted a fellow spy to use it. So I might be late to the testing party for this item but be sure that I will either do my review in the comments or unofficial review area. I am looking foward to seeing how this baby will do in the mountains of Tennessee. That was my concern back while the official tests were going on. Maybe this will take off the last 5 pounds I'm looking to shed. Thanks again Stu It sounds like a great day to be out with a fellow spy. @BIG STU, I'll repeat what @Golfspy_CG2 said, you sir are both an ambassador for both golf and the forum. You're one of the guys I really enjoy communicating with here on the site and I think what you did just shows how good of a person you are. I'm positive that Tom will put the Motocaddy to the test at his home course, it's definitely more hilly than what I see down here in the southeastern part of the state. Was recently reading an article about calories burned/general exercise with a cart, push cart and a motocaddy. Motocaddy had the best elevated heart rate and calories burned (faster pace when walking normally not having to push) which surprised me. That plus the review has me intrigued on these now. Glad to see the cart stays with a fellow spy! Trust me if you put it up on #8 it is all a gas powered EZ-GO can do to stay with it. We tried that one day with the owners kid driving the EZ-GO and me riding shotgun. The most I had it up on was #3 and that was after I had gotten better. Most of the time I ran it on #2. But as a safety feature it will stop when it gets to a certain range away. I got where later on if no one was around I would put it on #5 and let it haul then it would stop and wait on me to catch up. Sometimes messing with the Super Senior members at my club I will hit the 3 wood off the tee. Lately I have been playing persimmon off the Super Senior tees with them. But on 2 dogleg par 4s even with persimmon I can knock it through the fairway so I hit the persimmon 3 wood there. On one of our par 4s even from my customary (gold) senior tees I can hit the metal driver into the swamp so I use a 3 wood there to lay up. If the gold tees are way up and the ground is hard and dry like it is now I have to use either the 4 iron or 7 wood. With my distances now or lack of I use the 3 wood at least 3 times a round sometimes 4 if the wind is up. I get plenty of 3 wood practice but it is a great idea for those that do not use a 3 wood as much JerryB, MattF, sirchunksalot and 6 others 9 Quote Driver ---- Callaway Big Bertha Alpha Speeder 565 R flex- 5W TM V-Steel Fubuki 60r--- 7W TM V-Steel UST Pro Force Gold 65R----- 9 W TM V Steel TM MAS stiff---- Irons 2015 TM TP CB Steel Fiber 95 R--- GW Callaway Mack Daddy 2 52* shaft unknown junk pile refugee. Popular Post Alf. S
As mentioned in previous post have been losing club head speed and distance since the start of the season, lying in bed I had an epiphany yesterday. At the end of last season I was a bit inconsistent with my direction control on most of my clubs, GIR was pretty bad when playing full shots into the greens. My main swing thought at the time was at to start the downswing transition with my shoulders i.e lead with my left shoulder, in the winter to try and get better control my swing thought was more on swinging thru with my right side. Yesterday thinking back to previous experience, when I get armsy I lose distance and end up with this high cut that goes nowhere, has my new swing thought caused this? Playing the bounce game yesterday I went back to trying to lead with my left shoulder and the ball seemed to have the fizz off the club face again. Didn't score well, 83, but it was blowing 30mph. Popular Post DiscipleofPenick
Played a tournament at Mayfield CC yesterday. I shot an 83, which was a middle of the pack finish, winning score was +1. So it wasn't a terrible day, just certainly not my best effort. Most importantly I kept my head in it until the end, as I chipped in for birdie at the par-3 17th and made a nice up and down to save par on the 500 yard 18th. Breaking down my game, I drove the ball very well, which was good as the first test for the new PXG, and I hit the hybrid off the tee a few times and smoked it each time. Iron play was probably the worst of the season, as I only hit 7 greens and all 3 penalties were on iron shots. Chipping was it's usual positive and I had 32 putts, which is my best round of the season. I bought a SeeMore X2 Costa del Mar on Wednesday night and after practicing that night and yesterday morning, I put it in the bag. It is money inside 8 feet. Lag putting took some getting used to, but I hit some nice ones down the stretch. Very happy given I was unfamiliar and faster CC greens. The course itself was one of the goofiest layouts I'd seen. Some sections are built right on top of each other, and there are elevation changes you just can't see on a map. There's also a lot of hidden stuff off the tee like some fairways are crowned, others are cut narrow just over a ridge, and some were sloped aggressively left or right. There was a lot of times all of us thought we hit good drives only to find we missed the speed slot by a little and found our ball 10 yards deep in the rough. On some holes tee boxes point 45 degrees or more from the direction you actually have to hit the ball, and fairways curve or are tilted in the opposite direction the hole plays. The rough was very thick compared to the public courses I play, thankfully the greens were fantastic and not too fast, and no crazy pins. There was also a 30 mph wind out of the south most of the day, I'm not a good wind player I hit the ball very high, and most of the holes run parallel north-south. There was so much nuance to the course it was a lot for a first timer to absorb. I think you could play it a dozen times and still not keep track of all of the odd slopes and bounces you deal with. Overall a fun day and looking forward to the next section tournament. Popular Post cnosil
Last night was league night. Course was pretty wet since it has rained most of the week and as a result the greens had been cut and were really slow. Overall hit the ball pretty well, one tee shot behind a tree that reposted in a less than optimum second. Ended up with a bunch of 5/6 footers for par due to the slow greens and I struggled from that distance. Nothing really close to the hole so only oa couple good birdie chances. Shot 3 over which equaled my course handicap so it was a good round. 4 FW, 6 GIR, and 19 putts for a 39. Popular Post Rickp
Friday Bacon Boyz 9. Played reasonably mediocre. Irons were OK, short on every chip shot which was really bad because the greens were just sanded and looks like some kind of scarification. Forced myself to go to breakfast with them….ate healthy, eggs& fruit w whole wheat toast. There was enough Bacon in the air for everyone to get 2nd hand Bacon fumes! Popular Post MaxEntropy
I have been driving the ball really well (for me) this week. Perhaps I should clarify that as "solid contact". Tuesday in league, I was pounding the ball, but it was going dead straight for much of the round. Not a problem if you are aiming in the proper place, but I have a fade normally. Twice I hit into trouble on the left because the ball didn't fade (leading to a double and a triple). By the time I trusted it was going to be straight and adjusted my aim, the fade reappeared. I ended up shooting a +7 43. Last night I subbed in another league. Predictable fade was back and I hit 4 of 6 fairways. Unfortunately, the solid contact wasn't as solid as often, but everything was playable. Approach and short games were not particularly great and putting is weird to me at this course - I haven't played it much and the greens really confuse me at times. Highlight of the round was this: The league had a closest to the pin on 3rd shot competition for this hole. What better way to get close on the 3rd than by being on in 2? The eagle putt was a couple inches short, but right on line. I actually didn't mind being short in this case - if you roll it too far past the hole, it could have ended up in the rough by the pond. Unfortunately, as a sub I was not eligible for the $$, but bragging rights are good too. Another +7 for the night, which is perfectly acceptable for me. Like many of us, I would love to see what I might be capable of if all facets of the game were working AT THE SAME TIME! Popular Post Berg Ryman
So, I didn't make a big hullaballoo about this but I signed up yet again to attempt to qualify for our local amateur tournament in the region and played at a very nice and improved Vesper Hills Golf Club in Tully, NY. Out of the field of 53 I finished t49 at 99, or 27 over par. Upside to the round, broke 100. Just like last year I opened with a 9, this time instead of 5 putting, I pumped two balls at the green just OB on bad bounces then hit a drive OB, which we did find, on #2. After that, well it didn't get much better, but I was treated by some solid golf from my playing partner, who I just tried to keep him loose and stay out of his way as he finished the qualifier t2 at 76. Conditions were rough, hard winds which weren't a shock knowing Tully and the hilly country in that part of the county, but it really threw me a bit. I might give it another shot next year, but I just feel bad that I know I'm better than my performance in this situations, I just bottle it every time. Highlight of the day... at least for coolness and not practicableness, was sucking a ball back off the green like 30-40 ft on 18 with the Z Star XV Divide. Also had league night last night, shot a 39, should have taken all three points, and maybe won closest to the pin, so as usual... golf continues to confound. cksurfdude, MDGolfHacker, CarlH and 8 others 11 Quote In a Hoofer Lite bag TSR2, 10 degrees, A1 setting, Fujikara Speeder NX Blue 50-S Stealth, 15 degrees, VA Composites Nemesys 70-S E722, 19 degrees, Oban Devotion 80-S JPX 921 Hot Metal Pro 4-P, Nippon 950GH Stiff Flex CBX Zipcore 50* (bent to *49) and RTX Zipcore Tour Rack 54* (bent to *55), DG 115 Spinner, Tour Issue Staff Model TG 60*, Dynamic Gold 120 S300 SIK Golf Flo-C Tour B-XS (2022 Model)
RollingGreens
The tides started to turn yesterday for me. Got out for an early day 18 with a friend, we even played match play. The round started off odd, great drive followed by my second shot going OB in to the river getting pushed away by the wind but I saved par with a good chip And 1 putt. The rest of the day picked up from their with 5 pars on the front finishing with 4 pars alone on the front 9. Unfortunately I had a triple bogey on the 5th hole because I had a hard time getting out of the bunker, my one downfall yesterday. But a 41 on the front is solid The back went pretty good, I slapped the ball around a bit in the 560 yard par 5 and ended up chipping in from 20 yards for a par save the close out my match, it was a sweet shot and the ball just barely trickled in the cup at the end, plus you could hear the ball hit the bottom of the cup which was cool. It wasn’t until 14-17 where I just played sloppy, shanking one off the tee box and going OB again. +3 through the holes. Hit a fantastic tee shot on 17 the par 3, crazy wind so it was playing close to 225. Hit a 4 iron to 45 feet and ended up 1 putting for birdie. Finished 18 with a par to finish off the day. 39 on the back for a total of 80 for the day. Best stay of the day was 27 total putts. One of my best putting performances, the practice paid off! 11/14 fairways hit and 7/18 greens, except 4 times I left it short just in the front center of the fringe. So I’d like to say it was 11/18. Just a fantastic day, really was pleased with all the practice I’ve been putting in and how I played. I really tried to focus on playing station to station golf. Fairway-green in reg- 1/2 putt. I even went back to my old scoring ways where I kept track of all my statistics which I think helped keep me in line DiscipleofPenick, MDGolfHacker, CarlH and 5 others 8 Quote Stealth 2 Plus 9deg Kai' li Red Stealth 2 13deg Aldilla Rogue Silver Stealth 2 15deg Aldilla Rogue Silver JPX 921 Hot Metal 4-PW Nippon Modus 120s SM8 54 and 58deg Dynamic Gold Wedge Flex Scotty Cameron Newport 2 Titleist ProV1 Hoofer Stand Bag Stewart Q Follow Electric Caddie 300 PRO Rangefinder Official Nippon Regio B+ Driver Shaft Review Official Stewart Q Follow Review
