Popular Post Golfspy_CG2
Thursday AM league was a rainfedt. 1sy 9 holes was the worst rain I’ve ever played in. Fairways starting go puddle. Couldn’t find my rain gloves until the 7th hole. Couldn’t keep the grips dry and both towels soaked by the 4th hole. Shot 51 on the front. But rain slowed to a steady drizzle on the back and shot a more acceptable 45 considering the conditions. I was too bundled up to get a good idea of how the irons were. But the few chances I did get a good chance to hit them from semi dry conditions they felt fantastic and held the line very well. Popular Post JerryB
Owen and I played the front nine at River Heights yesterday. Gorgeous day and the course was nearly empty. We finished in 70 minutes. Really thought about calling in to work and continuing the round. Best part was playing around the sprinkler system on 8. We hit our drives, waited for the sprinkler to pass, then rushed up and hit our approaches and darted away before we got wet. Fun mini game! Overall we played great; 43 for Owen and 44 for me. I duffed one chip, topped one drive, but otherwise my striking was pretty clean. RollingGreens
39/46 for an 85 yesterday. Round was a bit of a mixed bag. I only hit 6 fairways and 6 GIR with 34 putts. Not sure if that says more about the state of my game for the positives or things that need to be cleaned up. Pleased with my scoring but not pleased with the mistakes I’m making off the tee and with my irons. Really hard time making quality iron shots and on the back 9 lately I’ve lost my driver frequently. Popular Post BIG STU
We had a Tragedy here yesterday on the Grand Strand. A gator killed a man. There are not real details yet. It happened over at Myrtle Beach Golf and Yacht club which has neither golf (anymore) or Yachts in fact one would do good getting a Jon boat in those waters. The course there Heron Point has been closed close to 10 years now. There are a lot of small houses and older condos there so a lot of full time residents. I know back when the course was open there were a lot of gators there I can only imagine now with the course closed and things grown up higher than my head. Like they said no real details have been released yet but they did confirm the gator killed the man and they got the gator and destroyed him. DNR and the County Police are evidently still investigating. So my fellow coastal and Florida folks be aware that Gators can and will kill JerryB, Kenny B, GolfSpy_SHARK and 8 others 11 Quote Driver ---- Callaway Big Bertha Alpha Speeder 565 R flex- 5W TM V-Steel Fubuki 60r--- 7W TM V-Steel UST Pro Force Gold 65R----- 9 W TM V Steel TM MAS stiff---- Irons 2015 TM TP CB Steel Fiber 95 R--- GW Callaway Mack Daddy 2 52* shaft unknown junk pile refugee. So my fellow coastal and Florida folks be aware that Gators can and will kill That’s not a way to go. It drives me crazy in “Bird Season” that the visitors look for gators and then feed them Kenny B, cksurfdude, BIG STU and 1 other 1 3 Quote Rick Left Hand, Driver; PXG 0311XF Cypher 50 gr Senior 5 wood; Ping 425, Senior Shaft 55 gr 7 wood; Ping 425, Senior Shaft 55 gr 5 hybrid; Cally Steelhead, Hazardous R2 Irons; Mizuno JPX 923HM 7-GW Recoil 460 F2 Wedges; Titleist S9 54*, Mizuno SW 56* Putter; Waaay too many to list
Popular Post DriverBreaker
I had to the opportunity to visit one of my students who is interning at Sedgfield Country Club (home of the Wyndham Championship on the PGA Tour). We played the front 9 from the tips. We had no warmup and had been riding in the car for about 4.5 of the hours of our trip prior, so I was stiff! We rolled a few putts on the practice green by the first tee box and then let them fly. My motto for golf right now is "70% effort." I find that my ball striking improves drastically, curve is minimized and repeatable, and all around I lose no distance with the irons and maybe 15yds with driver, but it is basically the same shot over and over. So I stepped up with driver in hand on the 1st hole Par 4, gave a 70% effort driver swing right up the middle. Had 120yds left to the flag, hit a gap wedge to 20ft, easy 2-putt Par on the first. The 2nd hole was a dog leg right Par 4. I'd never played there so my student just said to hit my fade over the left hand side of the right side FW bunkers. Sure enough, 70% effort, another nice little fade right where I wanted it. That left 100yds into a left to right sloping green. I didn't take the ball above my feet lie into account (so stupid) and ended up fatting the shot short of the green. I hit a pitch shot that I thought would run out but the greens were sand-based and extremely receptive. It came up quite a bit short. By this point I was a bit frustrated, blasted my first put by the hole and didn't take the time to read/line up the come back bogey putt. Just missed it and made a double. Grrrrrrr It's the simple things that cost the most strokes sometimes. 3rd hole was a 165yd Par 3. Flag was in the back and we couldn't figure out the wind. I take an 8iron and it goes long. Now I've got a downhill lie off a tight fringe to a flagstick that is sloping away. I took a 58* and hit a little pitch shot that landed just short of the putting surface and trickled 3ft past the hole. Made that one for a par. 4th hole was a narrow Par 4 with O.B. right and left. Didn't have much space left to start my fade, but I was able to squeeze it out there. Ball finished in the right rough and I had 150yds. The lie looked like it could jump but there was a steep hill behind the flag I thought would slow it if it jumped. Well, it jumped all right and landed hole high, rolled over the hill and left a tricky downhill double-breaker putt. I lagged it well and made a 4ft putt to save the par. 5th hole was a Par 5. Another not so wide hole with trees up the left. I had to trust my fade and start it at the left tree line. It didn't fade as much, but still stayed in play, left rough. I hit a 4iron out of the rough to 30yds short of the green. Hit another pitch shot that one-stop-hopped well short of the flag. It was downhill all the way, so I really expected it to roll out. Had a long lag putt that I got to 4ft again and made the par putt. 6th hole was a really difficult decision off the tee. Number 1 stroke index hole on the course and with good reason. There is a creek that goes from 290yds long left to 240yds short right. The perfect angle. I knew it wasn't a driver with the wind into us, but it also might not be a 3wd, as that would also get into the creek on the wrong line. So I decided to play a 5wd up the left side of the FW. I knew this would turn the hole into a longer hole, but taking too much risk wasn't in the cards. I hit it well but it left me a 200yd shot into the green. The ball was on a downslope so I expected a stinger. Sure enough, it came out stinging (very cool looking shot), landed on the front edge of the green and rolled to about 30ft. Good 2 putt par there. 7th hole was a 175yd Par 3 with water short. It was optically strange looking (seemed much farther than the yardage said it was). I trusted my 7iron, hit it 70% effort, perfect dead straight ball flight about 30ft past the hole safely on the center of the green. Easy 2 putt par again. 8th hole was a short Par 4 with another creek that went long left to short right and then trees not very far away on the right side of the FW. I took driver and ended up in the right rough. I had a good lie from 108yds, took a sand wedge and stuffed it to 3ft. First birdie of the day! The 9th hole was an uphill slight dogleg par 4. Took driver and ended up juuuuuust in the left rough with some mud on the ball. I could see the pitch mark about 8 inches in front of where my ball ended up. I took a pitching wedge and I'm not sure if I just hit a dead pull, if the rough grabbed the club, or what, but I missed the green well to the left. This left a large mound between the flagstick and my ball and of course it was a steep downhill slope to the flag. So I had to flop one over the mound and hope for the best. My partners said I hit my spot and it just jumped. Nothing else to do about it. So I had a long 2-putts for bogey, which I did. Ended up with a solid +2 on the nine holes, which is all we had time for. I would love to see the back nine sometime so I can relate when I watch the PGA Tour event played there soon. Aside from that stupid stupid double on the 2nd hole, I played really well for not having ever seen the course before. But it just goes to show you have to be diligent and pay attention to each and every shot. cnosil, ejgaudette, CarlH and 7 others 9 1 Quote Instagram: @tony_rosselli_ Training Pre training max driver speed: 124mph Current: 130mph WITB: Driver: G425 Max, 9* Woods: 2007 Burner TP 3 wood and 5 wood Irons: Z765 4-PW (1 degree flat) with KBS $-130 shafts Wedges: SM7 50/12/F, 54/10/S and 58/12/D Putter: L.A.B. JerryB
Owen and I were joined by our buddy Paul and our supervisor Chris yesterday at River Heights for a charity scramble to support Golf Fore Kids, which helps provide opportunities for area kids who might not be able to otherwise participate. Where we work only one of the three of us would be allowed the day off, but when I framed it as a volunteer day to supervisor Chris and invited him to be our fourth, he was happy to approve, LOL. Owen and I played reasonably well, but the better story was Paul and Chris. Paul has been working through some swing changes with Owen and they're starting to come along. When he hits it well the ball absolutely takes off, but he doesn't trust his alignment yet so his good shots go right. But the process is encouraging and you can see it in his eyes. He's the one that really helped us along when we started last year so to see him coming back is outstanding. Now Chris, he never golfed much and hadn't picked up a club in three years; he was there mostly for the beer. Fella had a beer a hole and looked none the worse for wear! We took a couple of his shots including an absolutely beautiful chip from under a tree that stopped about a foot from the hole. We had a blast! We shot 68, second highest score. Winning team posted 46. Chris won some Sub70 swag and Paul won a foursome to a course in Aurora that none of us had ever played before so we're excited for that. sirchunksalot, GolfSpy_SHARK, cksurfdude and 6 others 8 1 Quote Cobra Aerojet Max driver Cobra Aerojet Max 3 wood and 7 wood Cobra Aerojet 4/5/6 hybrids Cobra Aerojet 7-PW, GW Cobra Snakebite 52° and 58° wedges Cobra King Stingray 20 putter

I left my card on his desk after the round with a note of appreciation for helping me achieve something I never thought possible. Just catching up on this thread / post -- a big CONGRATS!! on that very spectacular golfing achievement!!
